Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
chefswife · 24/10/2008 16:57

actually, i have no idea what a receiving blanket is. i thought maybe it had something to do with the first blankets you wrap baby in before getting bathed. i'll ask my friend because 20 does seem a lot.

while i was in london, i noticed excessive activity on violet's part, wondering what the heck she was doing. well, she turned over and is in perfect position apparently, says the midwife. now though, it seems she has more room to cruise around in there and is loving pushing out the top of my belly with her feet. all her stretching is getting her ready for her broadway debut perhaps. (ya, i had to use one of the new emoticons too)

moosemama · 24/10/2008 17:10

Had to look it up, often heard them referred to but just assumed it meant baby blanket. We don't own 20 blankets of any kind.

receiving blanket

So I guess they're the lighter-weight blankets that can be used for swaddling. I had half a dozen for my DSs. (Because they had some really nice ones at Poundstretcher for £2 each.)

Kittenpaws · 24/10/2008 18:34

Hi everyone, hope you are all well. I haven't posted on here in a while, trying to catch up with the thread. I saw my new midwife today - so much better than the last one I'm feeling a lot more confident. Baby is doing well but is breech so hoping she is going to turn soon but has been this way for a few weeks so lets hope! She also gave me iron tablets to help combat the tiredness - has anyone else tried them ,do they work? I hope so as its half term next week so no chance of any rest!
Must go now - need to persuade dh to cook dinner while I put the kids to bed

MissHairspray · 24/10/2008 20:03

Hi all, had my first mw appointment back up north the other day, everything seemed fine although I didn't have any of my original blood results (didn't realise I needed these and never chased up with hospital in London when I didn't get them) so mw took 4 vials! Totally bruised my arm which I think put her off, so she didn't take my bp which I thought was a bit strange or say anything about position. Tbh though was just so glad to be out of London and in a nice friendly gps that didn't even care. Good strong heartbeat though and measuring spot on for dates.
My mum bought a great book called 'me and my daddy bear' which will be something really lovely to read to babs when he gets a bit older. Brought a little tear to my eye reading it.
Spent another desperate hour at lunchtime trying to find something nice to wear for night out tomorrow but it is so hard, especially if you want a dress in something other than black jersey. The no drinking thing is now really getting to me too, it isn't that i'm an alcoholic but a few mojitos now and then after work wouldn't go amiss.
Anyway have a good weekend ladies

Have requested to join the fb group, rrrayray - I'm the one on a South Pacific beach last year - how things change!!! Now pale and a bit podgy and covered in red pock marks leftover from my rash....!

Thanks for posting that list chefswife and for tink's additions -- scares me silly as I literally have NOTHING except some 0-3 months clothes that I couldn't resist buying. Oh well, only 3 weeks left of work and then I can start organising My Life Part II.

Oooh, would also be interested in the book recommendations for OH - I got some pregnancy magazines the other day for the first time, and he seemed to be handle a page-long article which is about his concentration span for pregnancy-related information. Whereas I spent the 2 hour train ride to visit him reading them cover to cover..

MsSparkle · 25/10/2008 20:54

I have a craving for carrots! Whole and raw. Very strange!

chefswife · 25/10/2008 21:08

i took a round trip, 1 hour walk, down and up the mountain, just for ice cream... maple walnut. it was so good... (drooling emoticon here please)

MsSparkle- i have always loved munching on Raw Carrots... pregnant or not! There are MUCH worse Cravings to have, like my one for Cadburys Eclair Sweeties last night!!

booksgalore- Tried Rocking, Didn't seem to help too much, think the short, sweet, frequent loo trips will be continuing!!

Was SO tired last night was in bed as SOON as X factor results show was over! I love my Saturday night trashy TV. Thank goodness we didn't go out with our friends who were going for chinese, they weren't eating until 9pm!!!!!

Have just realised its THIS sunday, the 2nd novemeber that i'm going to spain with friend of mine and her 10 week old baby, for 5 days!!! Must get to Doctors ASAP to get that note to clear me to Fly. Don't think it will be HOT... but a hell of a lot warmer than here, about 20- 23c i think! Mmmmmmm!! xx

LenniEd · 26/10/2008 19:49

at the ...over the Irish sea... song Books, one of my faves!!

Good book for men: "Blokes Guide to Pregnancy", not just about pregnancy but babies too, and a good bit about labour and birth which goes into all the gruesome details - better to get it all out in the open rather than have any nasty surprises Its funny too so my DH read it in just a couple of days as he found it entertaining, although brace yourself for a lot of "But the blokes guide to pregnancy says...." afterwards - suddenly he became an expert on all things babies...

rrrayray · 26/10/2008 22:02

Have got him reading the "guide to fatherhood" Section in one of my pregnancy Bible Book things. massive book, but his section isn't too big!

Planning to go to mama and papas tomorrow to buy nursery bedding to go with the bedding. The nursery at the moment looks rather Adult with just the wooden furniture sitting in it. We decided some time ago on the once upon a time range from M&P... Expensive, but Gorgeous!!!

Can i ask some advice of those of you who already have little-uns... We had originally planned to get a black out Blind to go up behind the curtains, but then it dawned on us, do we we really want to make the room pitch black? Wouldn't want her not to be able to sleep without complete darkness. Same as want her to be able to sleep through noise so we don't have to tip toe around.

Off for a Soak in the Tub to relax my Aches and pains!

Hope You've all had a lovely weekend!

rrrayray · 26/10/2008 22:03

** Bedding to go with the FURNITURE even. Doh!

Upwind · 27/10/2008 07:58

Hey all, sorry I've not been posting much, am in the middle of moving house and trying to meet deadlines for work so have been trying not to think about pregnancy!

I am just 27 weeks now and my baby has not kicked for the past week or so. They are gently moving about, squirming and fluttering so I think they may just have turned to face the other way or something but I'm definitely not getting any real kicks anymore. Is this something to worry about? I was assuming it was normal but woke up this morning thinking it might not be....

stripeywoollenhat · 27/10/2008 10:33

hi upwind - hope the moving has been going smoothly. i think if your little one is still moving about then it's probably okay, prbably has just changed position, but if i were you i would phone my doctor/midwife to check because i would just worry and it will probably take them no time to reassure you...

moosemama, iron and bananas does seem to have calmed down the restless legs thing a bit, i've not been drinking glasses of milk (bleurgh) but have added probiotic yoghurt to my diet which i guess would do the same thing. thank you for the tip. also from dp.

so my bump has been aching constantly for the last few days - i guess i am growing again. starting to worry about stretch marks, sure it's only a matter of time....

LenniEd · 27/10/2008 13:44

From my own experience blackout blinds were a must plus heavy curtains over the top since blackout blinds don't always sit right against the window and light creeps in round the side. It's not so much so that the room is pitch black to sleep, its so she doesn't get up when the sun comes up, otherwise we are up at 5am all through the summer. DD will sleep happily in daylight or artificial light if she's tired but equates light to morning, recently stayed at a friends with a security light outside the window, when the neighbours arrived home at 2am DD got up and came into me saying "Mummy morning" - she didn't get a very enthusiastic response!

Upwind - I would call midwife if you are worried, as a word of warning though they will almost certainly send you in to the hospital for monitoring. Usually involves being rigged up to a monitor for 30mins-1hour to get a heart rate chart plus they will do a normal antenatal check (feel position, urine, BP etc). They might also ask you to fill out a kick chart over the next few days.

MrsMagpie · 27/10/2008 14:17

Hi Ladies, I haven't been around for a while as work got very crazy and I was being sent all over the place. I've had a couple of ups and downs recently and my midwife has told me to either slow down or put my baby at risk. A bit a a reality check really.

I'm 31 weeks now and feel huge. Really suffering with being out of puff and finding it very tough to sleep. Anyone else having stretch mark nightmares?

Missed you all and promise to be better at keeping in touch.

tinkisinthe3rdtrimester · 27/10/2008 15:34

we had a blackout blind for dds room have velux windows. a definete must she kept waking otherwise.

chefswife · 27/10/2008 17:32

i finally booked myself bit of a spa day. mostly to take care of, ok, well to be frank, my bush... and what a bush it has become. it appears that is the only place hair is growing on my body. its out of control and none of the mirrors in this house go that low so i didn't even really realize how bushy it looks. its quite embarrassing. its at the point where if i could reach it i would trim it before going for my wax. i'm also having a pedicure and foot massage because they are getting increasingly harder to reach. its tricky enough getting the shoes on without sounding like an out of breath walrus.

still am battling the cold i got from all the sick people on the flight from London. its almost two weeks. it usually only takes me a couple of days to nick it in the butt, but i guess my little turnip is stealing all my nutrients and having a bloody heyday with them. she hasn't skipped a beat with her activity, that for sure. i hope she'll be hard wired with a great immune system though. reading on another thread, it sounds there is no rest for sick mom, ever.

Upwind · 27/10/2008 17:59

LenniEd - I was indeed sent in to hospital and just given a quick scan. It showed LO facing my spine and moving about. I'm just not feeling it anymore, I guess they turned themselves around! All is well and I am hugely relieved!

LenniEd · 27/10/2008 19:06

of your scan Upwind - must have been lovely to see your LO again. Glad you went, always best to get reassurance that everything ok.

Upwind · 27/10/2008 19:38

It was lovely to see them though the baby looked rather skeletal!

As I sat in the waiting room, waiting ages to be seen, there were two women in labour also waiting quite a while and obviously in utter agony. They kept moaning and gasping in pain. I kept thinking: but there is meant to be a break between contractions, right? These women are not getting breaks! And they are not being rushed away to delivery suites! Is this what the early stages look like It might go on for ages yet, what have we let ourselves in for?

rrrayray · 27/10/2008 20:12

Looks like a black out blind might be a good shout then! We bought our stuff from mamas and papas today. its all so cute. Although the beautiful mobile we got for the cot- the Writing is upside down on it. Not at all impressed & of course returning it when i have a chance!

Mrs Magpie- Lovely to hear from you! When you say stretch mark nightmares, you mean Lots of stretch marks, or actual nightmares about them?! I havent got any, to date, although i keep waking up thinking that bubba is actually ripping out of my stomach. My poor skin is THAT stretched i feel like its going to rip!

Chefswife- Spa day sounds Lovely!!! RE: Bush.. if its That long, when you get there, they will prob ASK you to Trim it... as Really long hair Wont Wax out properly! i think i am TOO going to treat myself to a pedicure soon! Although last time i had one i was telling the woman that a few weeks before i was due i am going to go in and get everything done so feel nice, and she laughed and told me about a friend of hers who had ended up having a C- section and b/c of the general anesthetic and something to do with blood pressure meant that all polish had to be removed! doh!

Upwind- Glad for you everything is OK. The past few days i've felt a Reduced number of kicks, and more kicks my insides than tummy, so i think mine too was turned around. Although i think she must have turned again, as my belly is taking a beating again today!!!

Have eaten FAR too much flapjack today- Mmmmmmmmmmmm, so good! xx
