A cloth nappy anecdote.....In another life my DH used to help run a cloth nappy service, one night, soon after getting married we had to sleep in the 'nappy van' - he swore blind it didn't smell...
Mrs W - I second all your advice on life with new babies and would add this.
1.In the early days don't stand up if you can sit down, down just sit if you can lie, don't just lie there if there's any chance of a little kip.
2. Find food you like that you can eat with one hand - I recommend bananas, chocolate chip cookies

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 18:53

Oh I am not an expert but I have certainly tried my fair share of nappies. DH will testify. It was quite a hobby for a while. It is easy to become an addict so be warned. Despite all the nappies and wraps I have tried though I always end up with my first choice which is reassuring. (and cheaper not to have to buy new ones) The bimble looks gorgeous. I have tried the bumble which is the big sister and was impressed. The only thing missing for me was leg frills(!) This extra bit of material did stop poo leaks for me (well dd really). Tots are lovely too but were not my fave for the same reason really and I found were quite bulky too. You will soon get to grips with the nippa too. ME wraps are excellent IMO and I think savannah is the nicest design. I didn't try the red wrap but know people who swear by it. I decided it couldn't go in with my nappy wash unless I wanted pink nappies lol so rejected it.
DD was not in cloth from birth so I am on a learning curve here too. I love my cloth nappies though.
Apologies to all June disposable users for temporarily hijacking the thread!!

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 18:54

Oh welshmum you made me laugh. We x posted. Love your advice, very appropriate!!!

I've come come back from Tesco with 4 chocolate puddings (microwave ones), 2 slices of chocolate cheesecake and 5 ring doughnuts. Oops Did stay away from the isle with the Lindor in it though!

Welshie - what on earth were you and dh up sleeping in his van hmm??

KVG - yes, that was very funny! I'd have to have Stella (25% extra free) cans in my hat, have a dubious smelling roly clenched between my teeth for effect

Coops - no, not Sean Bean for me - Sean Penn - Chris's more rotund, pugalistic brother
Sean Bean's far too attractive for me
Chocolate Club!! What an extremley good, yet extremely bad idea!!

I'll be having a good look at your nappy advice - I can see it's going to be one of those things I become obsessed with.....

Where is Tessie? - not seen her here for ages

tribpot · 01/03/2005 19:29

Yup, I'll also be checking out the nappy advice although ... you have remembered that our babies aren't due for months yet, right?! I am taking a 'just in time' approach to preparation, so plan to start sometime in mid-June

Bean went completely mad when I had some giant chocolate buttons tonight, to the point where I am considering calling him Giant Buttons. Like the panto character. Ha ha Mr and Mrs Beckham, betcha wish you'd thought of that first!

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 19:48

Gosh I had no idea there were so many closet clothies on here hee hee.
Charley - Hmm I am a bit bemused and obviously can't read either. I am a bit into the clean cut guys though the type you would hate... (Johnny Wilkinson anyone...a bit short but I could live with that.)
DD bought me a JW calendar the Christmas before last (good old DH) and it was the present I got most excited about (sad). It is still up in the kitchen now. I am working through the months again. Sadly none of my dreams have involved him yet.

Lua · 01/03/2005 20:09

OMG just put my baby to sleep in big girls underwear for the first time!!!!! Wish me luck!
I just feel she turned 18! [grin}

JonahB · 01/03/2005 21:26

Charley, good for you in your choc overload. How wonderful.
Well, i'm in a fantastic mood as I'm off work for the next week and a half. I am going to use that time to do useful things - buy a cot, find a nursery, finish decorating the kitchen.. I am not, under any circumstance go to my friends, borrow handfuls of DVD's and sit on the couch with DH eating tea and biscuits and watching rubbish....

charleypops · 01/03/2005 21:57

Coops - yes, I suppose all those young men of mine are a bit "dirrty" aren't they JW just doesn't cut the mustard for me - far too wholesome!

I have a very lovely calendar on the pantry door with big fish-eye photos of chocolate labrador puppies! Aw.

Lua - Good luck tonight!

Jonah - have a lovely week and a half off, it must be so exciting!! God, I couldn't wait to have a few days off when I was working full time, but I'd also be a bit sad because they were so few and far between. Just don't borrow 24 from anyone - that'll be all you do....

Just had a large slice of choccy cheesecake and Pod's started jumping...

uwila · 02/03/2005 07:35

Mornin' everyone. What a lot of senseless chatter on here! The trouble with not postin here for a long time (1/2 a day) is that it takes bloody forever to read it all. Will have to catch up later. ta ta...

katzguk · 02/03/2005 08:30

morning all.

just got into work and am now writting a to do before maternity leave starts list!! only 10weeks and 2 days to go, yeah!! my last day is the 7th of May but i've having three weeks annual leave first so i will not feel guilty about sitting on my bum doing nothing except taking DD to nursery!!

We've made a start on the nursery and fourtunealty three of the four walls the wall paper has come off without any mess, just a very small amount of sanding required, however one wall is going to need to be reskimmed - do you think a plasterer will do one wall?

I'm a clothie to well kinda, we had tots bots and a mixture of wraps

Morning girls,

Charley I'm impressed with your chocolate shop...I love the stuff, but I'm not sure I could get away with that much in one shop...well not if dh is with me anyway!!

Katz, mil and I have been sent info on that kind of choc tasting 'club' but were worried it wouldn't be worth it as they seem quite expensive...but from what you say it sounds like you get a fair amount of choc so we may be tempted to give it a whirl...and mil will be very happy as she's even more addicted to chocky than I am

Whilst still on a choc theme, and having taken over the 'Egg Tester' mantle, I had the chocolate orange egg yesterday. Nice, just like the segments in the original choc orange...but very much smaller - so my advice would be go for the original if your a piggy like me!

Can't help on the cloth nappy front I'm afraid I'm a disposable fan (btw pampers are the best) along with being a bottle feeding mum too, oooh bad mummy, he he he!!

OP posts:
katzguk · 02/03/2005 09:46

the box of chocs is about 500g i think, and i would say they were comparable in price - size as thortons but the chocs are much nicer!!! i got two goes for christmas but one go is only £15!

Cooperoo · 02/03/2005 09:51

Hee hee Teabelly.
That choc orange egg sounds superb. They are my fave choc anyway.
Lua - How did last night go. I am putting off potty training at the moment as dd is not yet two and is completely clueless.
The senseless chat is great. Just like a coffee morning! It is hard to keep track though.
Catch up later. I have an Usborne books party to do tonight and I need to do some prep this pm. Haven't had a party since Nov so I hope I can remember what to do!

Oh no! A quick read of this thread and now I want chocolate for breakfast. That chocolate tasting thing sounds like a fab present, must start dropping hints for DH to buy it for me!

Jonah, hope you have a restful week and a half off. Put your feet up, take it easy and enjoy it. Sod everything else.

Well we've loads of snow this morning, it's taken me an hour to travel 6 miles along the ring road. Grrrrrrrr.

Tea, you are doing a wonderful job chocolate-egg tasting. Looking forward to you publishing the results very soon. What's leading the way so far?

Lua, is your DD out of nappies at night then? I am very impressed! My DS is still in nappies full-time, and we haven't even moved him to his big boy bed yet...the plan is to do it this weekend. Now that he can get out of his grobag AND his cot there doesn't seem much point keeping in his baby-prison any more.

Welshmum, would totally agree with your advice. Especially the chocolate-chip cookies. They will go nicely with my wine hat (and Charley's roly of dubious nature !)

Lua · 02/03/2005 10:05

Morning all!
Yey! DD woke up dry as a raisin! She has been waking up dry for a few weeks now, I was just too scared to try the no nappy cold approach. But so far so good...

Jonah - enjoy your time off! See if you can beat Charley on the chocolate eating front!

I have to confess that I hade a 200g bar of cadbury last night.... but I am still impressed with your abilities charley!

Scraggy hope you are feeling better soon!

katzguk · 02/03/2005 10:23

just to be even more helpful heres the link to the choc club

choc

best thing is you can do one and you're not committed to doing anymore

katzguk · 02/03/2005 10:24

lua - your braver than me DD has been dry in the day since jan and her night time nappies are never used but i just can't bring myself to not put her in one!

Cooperoo · 02/03/2005 10:28

That link is to the club my mum was with. The chocs are Yummy and it is a huge box. The descriptions alone were enough to get my mouth watering. MMMMM. Where is my creme egg....chocolate fix required......?

Cooperoo · 02/03/2005 10:30

Congrats to Lua's dd too. What age did you move your first borns to a big bed?

katzguk · 02/03/2005 10:34

we moved DD to a big bed last summer so she was not quite 2
