Btw, dh has just had a phone conversation with one of his mates in which breast pumps featured as a serious topic. How times have changed!

teabelly · 01/03/2005 12:57

trib ...it gets better - serious conversations about the colour/consistency/frequency of poo will become normal in your house in a few short months!

Great link...I've just spent the last 10 mins nodding and grinning inanely at the screen...I think the guys in the office are getting abit freaked out!!

tribpot · 01/03/2005 13:00

Tea - mortifyingly, such topics are already commonplace in our house, because of dh's illness! (I did say having a baby might not be quite such a culture shock to us as to others )

teabelly · 01/03/2005 13:02

Ha ha ha Trib sounds like your quite prepared already then!

The only way I can ever get dp to do anything he doesn't want to is by making him feel guilty - he'll protest like mad, but always does it eventually (very handy, him being brought up a Catholic . As for diy, I prefer to do it myself because he's got absolutely no patience - doesn't understand the concept of "preparation". I had to raise my voice to get him to go downstairs to turn the mains water off before dismantling the tap!

Poor you Scraggy - it sounds just awful, but I'm not suprised you've picked up a cold with all that travelling around you do. Hope you feel better soon honey x

KVG - LOL at your early alarm call - I did the exact same thing when I lived in (mature) halls at uni to the w*ker opposite me. Sadly it didn't work for me... Are you still living within the walls?

KVG/Jonah/Trib I occasionally get The Fear too about becoming a mum, but I've begun to think of my bump as "Sweet Little Pod" and imagine kissing his feet and that makes me feel better. And helps block reality out for a bit longer....

MrsF - I feel like an old lady too

MrsW - thanks for the link, I'll have a read tonight.

Right, off to do stuff. See you later!

charleypops · 01/03/2005 13:18

We're au fait with poo too because we have a dog! I'm always banging on about my constipation too at the moment

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 13:45

Hello again,
DD is having a long nap so I am jumping on here again.
Charley - Tell me you are joking about Cain Dingle???? Blimey
Can anyone recommend a Pregnancy Yoga DVD? I loved doing it last time but there are no classes or anything here.
Poor you Scraggy, take care and get some rest.
Tea - Consider the eggs handed over. I will be joining you in spirit I think with my creme egg a day policy.
Trib - You made me laugh about your DH's conversation. My stepdad was so good when I had to go and stay there learning how to dismantle my pump and washing it up for me as well as coping with breast milk in his fridge for four weeks. (DH had to move to Cyprus four weeks before me so I had the move from our rented house in York, the sale of our house in Ipswich and a flight via Brize Norton to Cyprus to do without him. Thank god I went to stay at my mums cos I think I would have broken down otherwise. dd was 4 months old at the time)
Red I agree Home start are fab. I will be using them in September as DH has a course in the UK for three weeks and I will need some help I think. Even if it is only for a few hours. The ladies here are wonderful.
First timers - Don't worry. For me dd is the best thing ever and I have never missed going out as much as we used to etc esp during the early days as I felt I would rather be with her. Also we imagined giving up alot more than we actually did. We took dd with us everywhere as we were lucky she slept well and when we moved out here we ate out loads (was too hot to cook) as dd slept in her car seat. Agree that the early days are exhausting and achievement is getting through the day, but tell yourself it gets better!!!! Have to go dd is awake.

I think the Active Birth Centre do a yoga vidoe/dvd but don't know what it's like. I'd like some reccomendations too please!

MrsWednesday · 01/03/2005 14:11

That list made me laugh out loud too, some classics on it.

Welshmum, I meant to say earlier but forgot, my DS has had the same problem with suddenly becoming scared of the dark. At the moment he sleeps with the light on (well, it's a lamp with a book in front of it so it isn't very bright) and when I go to bed I turn it off. He does sometimes wake up during the night and demand I put it back on again though. It must be exhausting for you, and such a shame about your night out tonight.

Lua, love the tip about the bottle of beer in the fridge. Will definitely be stocking up on some nice white wine (chilled!) for those 'pacing round the house with unsettled baby' occasions. Might have to rig up a wine glass and drinking straw contraption to make consumption easier.

charleypops · 01/03/2005 14:52

Cooperoo - I'm afraid, yes, in response to the Cain Dingle q! I have eclectic taste not only in books, but in men too - ie I quite fancy Cain Dingle, Snoop Dogg, Sean Penn, the singer from Queens of the Stone Age, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Cook .... but, I fancy dp the most of course

MrsW - why don't you buy one of those hats where you put your drinks round the brim and the straws going directly into you mouth - I've often thought these were a great idea

I'm off again...

You had me laughing out loud at that one too!!!
Cyprus could be next on the list...you never know. What made you move? Where are you from originally?
Offline again for now, catch up later.

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 15:37

Charley - I am with you on the Sean Bean thing.

Lua · 01/03/2005 15:52

Hey Tea, sorry for putting you in the spot earlier... I was sure you were on #3... But decide to confirm (yeah, should have done that before posting...) and realize Tessie is the one on #3....

So Tessie... are you still around? How are you doing? How did you cope with #2?

teabelly · 01/03/2005 15:59

that's ok Lua...did think there was maybe something you knew that I didn't...

Oooh KVG are you using cloth nappies? I use cloth with dd. What nappies have you got in the trial set? I ordered some newborn kissaluvs for this baby and they seem TINY to me like dolls nappies, but I guess that is because I am used to dd's size 2's. What wraps have you been recommended?

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 17:45

My mum used to be a member of a Chocolate club. She got a huge box every month and was supposed to review them or something. There were all different types from around the world. She and my stepdad would have one every evening. It was very expensive though (she never did tell my stepdad how much) and she has stopped now. What a great idea for a present though. I am impressed. I have just ordered flowers for my mum and MIL for Sunday and feel I have left it too late.....as usual. Oh well too late now.

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 17:50

Kat - What a bargain that ball is. Ours was quite pricey I think as dh works with physios and got a 'professional' one. Totally unnecessary though and actually it is a bit too big for me. I have to have some air let out. He does use it too though and is 6ft 2 so needs the extra size. We had it in the car for the labour at the hospital but like nearly all the stuff we packed it didn't get used and stayed in the boot ha ha.
