Oh Uwila I have funny pregnancy dreams Do you remember back in the days of that drug they gave people for morning sickness? Can't remember the name of it but they had missing limbs and things. But I keep on thinking bubba will arrive with one leg or something then I look at my maternity legs and they have done the tick by hands and feet with a little x2. So unless they fall off before the birth I can safely hope he has four limbs

Also have you noticed on the TV there are baby storeis in all the soaps? I never watch soaps but it I have started because of all the baby story lines and holby city. I was watching an episode of the x files you know where Dana Scully finds out she had a kid that was stolen by the aliens. Honestly someone will be beaming down and knicking bubba next and I'll have a heart attack

Oh did you hear that horrid story in the news a while ago where the American mum was killed and her baby stolen post morten I'll never sleep again.

Thanks for the kind words. You can do it Charleypops - It is wierd though when you are going to be a mum yourself - you feel a whole bunch of stuff that was never appliacable before.

uwila · 28/02/2005 17:02

Oh Pink, I don't have time for soaps. So I know none of them. But, I know the x-files episode. Have you seen the one about babies that are born with tales. My DH said that the other night. SOmetimes I get worried and ask him if he ever does, and he mentioned that it could possible be born with a tail like on the x-files.... EEEEWWW!!! Creep. Why did he have to say THAT?

And also Pink, my mother can be a complete freak of nature too... but then she can be good fun at times. I find the perfect solution is to move to another continent and see her say once a year. Work out that way. She called me for the first time in years this past Christmas and I swear to God, I nearly dropped the phone. She writes e-mails, but I tell ya Ebanezer(sp?) Scrooge has nothin' on Uwila's mother!

And the drug was thalidamide (sp?).

And speaking of limbs, I have a second cousin whose son was born with two fingers in total. An index finger on one hand and a thumb on the other. They didn't notice until birth. So, whenever I go for scans I make them count fingers. With DD, the sonographer said, oh we don't normally do that because fingers aren't a major body part. I just looked at her in horror, and she proceeded to count.

tribpot · 28/02/2005 17:38

Heck, I think all baby storylines should be avoided at the moment (not that I watch the soaps but there are episodes of CSI I won't watch for this reason). I definitely don't want to worry about aliens beaming the baby out of my tummy. Mind you, they could do that when he is full term and then hand him over to me, I quite like that idea.

JonahB · 28/02/2005 19:00

Evening everyone!

Just got back from driving to Essex and back. Desperate urge to eat then sleep, but wanted to come on online to say thanks for the lovely day out yesterday. Sorry for not joining you all on your duckpond visit - I'm really not too hot at walking at all . Can I also thank the 3 lovely kids who were SO well behaved and helped considerably in easing my DH's concerns about badly behaved toddlers. I just loved their faces when that ice-cream appeared .

Hi Sam, welcome to the June thread!

Hi Uwila (waves)!

Cooperoo, I'm loving your choc egg tips! When your invaluable research is further on, are you going to give us a synopsis of which eggs to try and which to avoid like the plague?

uwila · 28/02/2005 21:29

Okay, what's with the mysteriously well behaved toddlers at the meet-ups? Mine did the same. Tea said hers was on best behaviour. And I don't know if little Welshie is just an angel or if that was unusually good behaviour too.

Hmmmm... those little one's are scheming. Remember mine is the same child who kills nighttime fury intruders... She looks sweet. But, then there's a dead mouse. Weird.

PinkArjuna · 28/02/2005 22:25

I don't have time for soaps either - I just can't stop watching the baby story lines - not to mention I hate them all and regret it afterwards! I absolutely hate soaps but I can't seem to stop watching anything to do with babies or parenting. I had heart failier the other week watching 'driving mum and dad mad' Most of those delightful children are boys.

Uki · 01/03/2005 05:22

HI ALL
a meet up in Sydney would be great, but you probably wouldn't want to leave, as dh's cousins never do. My yoga teacher today was english i think she is enjoying the hot weather even though i am slightly over it.
Is anyone else having back problems????
There doesn't seem much you can do while preg, no creams, no painkillers???
Yoga helps a little, and had my first chocy egg today, i lo-o-urve easter.
My bad dreams seemed to have finished for now thank goodness.
bye for now

teabelly · 01/03/2005 09:01

Morning all,

Uki I think you can have paracetamol when pg?? Not sure how much it would help though...or you could get your DH to give your back a massage with something like baby oil to ease any tensions. If you do manage to get him to do it then if you could let me know how, coz I'm working on DH at the mo to no avail!

Charley, yep finished the decorating ...DS's room is now orange (his choice??) with Nemo stickers and duvet cover etc...when he goes to sleep this week he's been kissing Nemo (on his pillow) night night too bless. DD-to-be's room is yellow with DS's old M&P Snail's Tail(?) bedding etc, so it's kinda bright/jolly. Bathroom was just re-glossing doors etc - my most least favorite decorating job!!

Trib love the idea of aliens taking the bubba out of you and handing it to you instead of giving birth, if only

I'm getting out of breath climing stairs/walking fast too...got the auditors in this week and I'm sure they think I'm a naughty heavy breather, as everytime I go upstairs to answer a question I'm wheezing for the next 5 mins!

OP posts:
tribpot · 01/03/2005 09:23

Morning everyone!

I'm not sure about painkillers for back pain, I tend to think you could end up doing yourself a worse injury as a result ... I'd go with a hot water bottle (maybe not in Sydney though!) or an ice pack maybe?

I've certainly been having back pain, I have to not sit in one position for too long, and I find sleeping in any bed other than my own aggravates matters. (Btw, I am talking about visiting other people here, not having an active 'social' life before anyone gets any ideas! Mind you, I had a dream about cheating on dh last night - even if I wanted to, I don't imagine the admirers would be lining up round the block to get jiggy in my present condition )

Stairs are great fun when you live on the second floor - sigh. Although this flat has other great advantages, such as having to listen to someone else's alarm clock going off every 15 mins from 7:00 (why doesn't the person it is meant to be waking up turn it off?), my downstairs neighbour singing very loudly (this morning we had a Robbie Williams medley) and now they are having a massive row, grrreat. Note to self: phone estate agents again about rental properties.

Actually the worst thing is the fag smoke. It seeps up through the floors and some nights it is absolutely hideous. I'm not intending to be one of those insane worriers about cot death or anything, but I reckon the fag smoke would really p*ss me off once the bean is here, given I would never let anyone smoke in our flat.

welshmum · 01/03/2005 09:35

Happy St David's Day everyone.
Uki - I ended up at the osteopath a month or so ago and he gave me some good back excersizes. The best one seems to be lying on your back on the floor, bending one leg at the knee and then pulling it gently into your chest. Other than that I do (as always and apologies for boringness) recommend a bit of yoga every night.
Uwila - my little 'welshie angel' has decided she doesn't like the dark - so for the last few nights she's been awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night - despite having 'a tiny bit of light on please mummy' ie the way too bright landing light. We keep trying different things - lights in her room etc(she doesn't like them) but nothing seems to work. We'll have to come to some sort of arrangement soon as I look and feel bloody dreadful - have had to cancel my posh St David's Day dinner tonight as am way too knackered

Hi all
Just to say I sadly think that I will have to hand the egg research back to someone in the UK. The choice here is just too limited. Any takers?
I have had the Galaxy caramel egg today which was very nice but a bit sickly towards the end. I think if you can get something in bar format that is the way to go. They are bigger that way too I reckon.
Oz meet up sounds fab
Haven't been around much as dd has been poorly with cold/cough and being sick at night. I am achey all over from carrying her. I posted last night as I felt so exhausted and was paranoid it was some bizarre pregnancy related problem. Thankfully not. General concensus was a UTI but doc says I have just over done it and should take it easy. I don't need telling twice
DD is MUCH better today too and demanding toast and fimbles so I think we are on the mend.
I wish I was fitter this pregnancy. Note to all first time mums 'Don't be lazy like me and not bother to get back in shape between babies' This pregnancy is much more tiring.

uwila · 01/03/2005 10:17

Would love to take part in UK wide meet up. My maternity leave is rather (sulk , sulk) short due to financial neccesity. I am plan to work right up until the end. So tentatively, I anm off from 22 May until mid - late July. I will take 6 weeks of maternity leave followed immediately by either two or three weeks holiday (haven't decided yet about that 3rd week of holiday).

So, realistically, I can join if it's early to mid july. But, as some of you are due end of June, that might not be feasible... Hmmm.... Well, I hope I can make it. But, after typing out the schedule I might have to miss a weekday event because my schedule isn't likely to suit everyone else's.

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 10:19

On bad backs, I had to have physio when dd was 10mths as I had lost the arch in my back! I did yoga and was so careful when I was pregnant but it all went out the window once dd was born. So keep up the good back practices. My physio said I had done the damage over a period of months of not standing straight etc plus prolinged b/f may have been an issue. I have one of those balls now and if I know I have had a bad back management day I try to sit on that instead of the sofa as you have to sit upright to stay on.
It is also great to lean on in later pregnancy stages and I think this can help the baby get in the right position. Our yoga guru will be able to let me know if this is right or not... welshie??
Good to see you back KVG

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 10:23

Uwila - nightmare that you have to work so late. It must be hard to juggle everything. Will you really have to return to work so soon?? I hope that you can sort out a meet up. I am back in the UK for a month in the summer so keep me posted too. We will be busy doing the family stuff (big families on both sides) and the friends stuff but I would love to make it if I can.

RTKangaMummy · 01/03/2005 10:25

LUA

Thankyou for your email and apology

Lua · 01/03/2005 10:27

Morning all!
I second cooperoo! I so wish I had got in better shape between preganancies! The second one is really taking a toll in my body!

I have escaped so far the back problems. I have heard though that swimimg is really good for it.
I am lucky though to have what is called "restless legs syndrome". Anyone got that? Apparently only us lucky 10% gets it... It is driving me crazy at night. Basically I can't stay put and need to be shaking my legs or pacing around... So after finally getting DD to bed and dreaming of just taking easy, I start pacing around like a caged lion!

Coop - I would love to take on the egg duties, but you are doing a fab job! Also, I am not brave enough to dive my teeth until I know how pink the insider are going to be .
I think you should CAT me with your address and I'll provide some more samples for you!

tribpot · 01/03/2005 10:30

Ouch Uwila, I'm not even planning to be sane by mid-July, never mind compos mentis enough to go to work Having said that, you are due rather earlier than me but even so. On the subject of being 'due', do you have a date set for the cs yet, or do they decide nearer the time?

Coop - I cannot offer to take over the egg research from you as you have already found loads more choccie eggs than I have seen on display round here. Someone more cosmopolitan is going to have to step into the breach I think

redheadmum - glad you found the stats thread!

redheadmum · 01/03/2005 10:41

hey y'all

well, this thread sure can chat

I'm at work, sneakily peeking into MN, so have done a quick scan of the posts and done me stats. I have already given into the addiction...

I'm fanatically nesting at the moment. Have got handyman around to put shelves up in every spare space in the house whilst Dh is away, and will be changing stuff around. Also writing lists for Dh to do before imminent arrival (is 'clear out cellar' too unrealistic....?) Am trying to organise myself this time around as last time was in a 1 bed flat and moved when Dd was 5 months. We moved into a house that needed sooo much work, at one point we had no floors downstairs and Dd was crawling!!! (not again)

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 10:48

My dear mother has sent me some maternity bras from a lovely bra shop she has near her. I gave her my measurements but sadly they have arrived and don't fit. This is not my main grumble. My grumble is that this shop has the most beautiful bras in it in all shapes and sizes so WHY do maternity bras have to look as though they are designed for a 65 year old??? Last time I looked my bosom does not start just under my collar bone so why do they design them so high??? I despair. I feel frumpy and fat and ugly enough without putting one of these things on.......
Rant over.....
P.S. Very tempted by your kind offer of free eggs. I have a UK address too so postage would not be loads. However it is getting warm here now and I would worry about them melting before I can appreciate them fully. I think Teabelly is the lady to take over my quest....didn't she mention quality street eggs before.....

Cooperoo · 01/03/2005 10:52

Hello red I didn't nest last time at all. I just panicked that I would never be able to go shopping and bought a ridiculous amount of food. I think dh counted 16 tins of tomatoes by the time dd arrived.
I have however been clearing out all my cupboards and clothes etc etc this time. V odd and I was concerned I am peaking to early. You have reassured me though.

eastyorksmum · 01/03/2005 11:01

Morning mums ..... I have had some backache too... I find a hot bath helps .. although my prob is lower pelvic pain.as I seem to be carrying baby very low.....so always on the loo lol
Sorry if I didnt say on stats thread but were having a boy ...... so that will be 4 boys lol anymore and we could start our own rugby team.
Im doing the yoga too ..........although
I find it hard to balance now ....and get tired after 30 mins .DVD last an hour.
Ive just sent away for a DVD help im having a baby wondered if any of you had come across it?

redheadmum · 01/03/2005 11:04

I'm not sure if I'm making up for last time, but have been doing useless stuff like putting together shoe cleaning stuff in a box as well sensibly thinking about doing cooking, getting clothes ready etc . Kitchen cupboards next.....

MIL comes up on Friday, so hope to get some help. Would really like to have someone come and scrub the house from top to bottom (am sensible enough not to attempt myself)

I DID say fanatical......
