I think it's time for a new thread! The old one was getting huge...

OMG preggars! 28 weeks! Scary.

My maternity tops are getting too tight too, Uwila. Which is odd, because I've only put on about 21lbs in total and I swear that most of that is on my backside I refuse to buy any more maternity clothes though.

Preggars · 08/04/2005 12:41

I am fed up of my limited wardrobe I have to admit.

It's all black black black. Oh and pregnancy jeans.

I've gained 21 lbs too... It's supposed to be 1 lb a week here on isn't it! I ended up losing about 3 lb in the end few weeks last time, as got nausea again...

Hasn't properly disappeared this time, albeit very different to the terrible sickness in the first 4 months. Is anyone else still wretching at the drop of a hat?

uwila · 08/04/2005 14:03

Gosh, no. I've hardly had morning sickness at all this time. In fact I haven't thrown up once. I guess I should be thankful for that.

Maddison · 08/04/2005 14:23

I'm the same as you Uwila, I felt sick for 2 weeks when I first found out I was pg but never actually threw up and I haven't felt sick since. I did get really nasty headaches upto about 20 wks though

northstar · 08/04/2005 14:59

I don't feel sick as much as feel nauseated by things that wouldn't normally bother me iykwim? My stomach is weaker.
Any one got that "going home outfit for baby" yet? I'm looking but everything is either the remnants of the winter stuff and way too heavy, or else flimsy summer stuff.

Preggars · 08/04/2005 15:24

We're umming and arhing over whether we should buy a double buggy or not. DS is 2.5, not sleeping in the day, v.indep... but... oh, don't know what to do...

Haven't thought about 'coming home' outfit... got to pull my finger out...

uwila · 08/04/2005 15:28

Praggars, I ummed and arhed about that two. Decided against the double buggy. DD is just going to have to make use of her lovely little legs. I wonder if I could use her reins to tie her to the buggy board???? Just kidding.

Oh, I know I've asked this before. So, sorry for repeating myself. But, what are people who are having baby number 2 doing about the mattress (Assuming you are reusing the cot). Are you getting a new one? Or do you think that's unnecessary. I'm leaning towards reusing DD's matress. But, then I wonder if I'm being selfish and stupid.

northstar · 08/04/2005 15:30

preggars tbh i would get one if i were you, but in addition to your new-baby buggy, especially if you can find one second hand, they are normally in very good condition. Ds is 3 next wednesday and although v independent I honestly dont think I could have done the last 6 months without somewhere for him to sit and me to have him strapped in for safe-keeping. Just my experience though, I'm sure you would be fine without it either
So, no help really sorry.

northstar · 08/04/2005 15:34

Uwila, i would be tempted to re-use the same mattress, especially as it was (presumably) purchased recently, and conforms to all the latest safety standards. Also, as long as it has been stored somewhere dry and airy and not contaminated then I really dont see why not. I have to get a new one but that is only because the girl I lent mine to put it in her garage for a year and a half, it smells of garage and it is damp

uwila · 08/04/2005 15:36

BTW, I got a maclaren techno classic, and plan to obviously get a buggy board for the back. However, I am prepared to accept that I may end up giving in to the double buggy if it doesn't work out. If this happens, I'm just going to buy a cheapo second hand variety off of ebay as I only expect to use it for a few months or so.

Besides, it's good for DD to get some excercise.

Preggars · 08/04/2005 15:41

We were planning to do the buggy board thing also. Think my DS would love to be on the back... but I fear we may have to buy one. It's just all money isn't it.

As for Mattress. I asked my Health Visitor friend about this, as I plan to use the car seat from the Mamas & Papas three-in-one thing we bought for DS. She said - yup, completely fine. As long as the the seat hasn't been damaged (which it hasn't, it's immaculate. And, the same for mattresses. As long as they haven't been in a smokey atmosphere, and of course are clean, she said ok too. (which is good, as was going to do this anyway).

That's a good idea about getting a buggy board now so he can get used to being on it.

Preggars · 08/04/2005 15:50

Myermay, my DS will be exactly the same age (if I come around due date). When was your DS born? Mine was 24.10.2002.

logic · 08/04/2005 16:00

We bought a buggyboard from kiddicare because it was on offer there. Ds will just have to get used to it. My new pram arrives on Tuesday and I hope it fits with the buggyboard.

Bought a new moses basket mattress but we'll probably now use the pram as a first bed instead. Not buying a new cot bed mattress because the old one is fine.

Wow, this thread has been busy! How are you now Logic? I can't believe its getting so close for us now, it really brings it home.
We've got a going home outfit, Just a cute little sleep suit, as we don't know if we're having a dd or ds, with cute little whales, fish and birds on it from gap, also have little knitted cardi from FIL's girlfriend and the shawl dp and his siblings came home from hospital in!
I've had nausea again lately, mainly in the evening and at night, but not as bad as for the first few months, I've had waves of nausea throughout, mainly linked to dizziness and low blood pressure/sugar I think, but have only been sick a few times, last time at 20weeks.
Re hospital bags, I'm getting bits together but how many nappies, wipes etc do you think we'll need? I'm planning on coming home as soon as I can, but want to make sure I take enough. How many nappies does a newborn baby get through?

Preggars · 08/04/2005 16:25

! I changed my DS 8 times one night in the first week. The poor little mites bum was red roar. Later found out that it was the Johnson's wipes. Pampers wipes have always been ok though. Hospital and Midwives like you to use cotton wool. Tis a bit of a mess though!

logic · 08/04/2005 16:40

I'm ok now thanks, LittleB!

Agree that johnsons wipes are harsh. I couldn't be bothered with the cotton wool/bowl of warm water thing for long either. Far too fiddly. I intend to use pampers sensitive wipes. I use them for ds anyway so I've got plenty. You need lots of nappies though. I have bought two small packs of newborn nappies so far. You can't believe how often they need changing. I've got a sangenic unit for disposing of them which is good. Some people hate them though.

OP posts:
Preggars · 08/04/2005 16:53

Oh, and don't talk about Merconium!!!! Got the nurse to do 'those' nappies!

fisil · 08/04/2005 17:01

Yes to new mattress - Better safe than sorry.

Yes to double buggy - dp walks to nursery and couldn't stomach the thought of ds having a "no buggy board" strop while he's trying to get to work in time for an important meeting! May get a buggy board too. Also, will use a sling for baby at first.

About 8 nappies a day at first, if I remember right. But can't remember why, ds can do just 2 or 3 a day now, and his wees are much bigger!

myermay, I looked at hiring a tens machine but most places charge around £30 for a months rental.
For £35 I bough a brand new labour tens machine from ebay (same make as a lot of the rental ones). It arrived yesterday and looks excellent.
Plan to hold onto it after the birth for baby number 2 but I'm sure if you plan to have no more you could sell it on ebay for £25 (thats the price of most second hand ones on there).

Brighteyes · 08/04/2005 18:14

forgot to add - if u do decide to buy, make sure its a labour/maternity tens machine. Other tens machines cannot be used when pregnant

logic · 08/04/2005 18:27

myermay re: potty training. The nursery nurse at ds' recent review told me not to bother until a couple of months after the baby is born. It's far too much work to have to do it twice

Hope the people feeling sick are better soon. I didn't realise some of you were still suffering with it really badly. Nightmare! I just have the slightly more sensitive stomach like northstar...
