I think it's time for a new thread! The old one was getting huge...

Go Brighteyes. Lots of people won't have partners there and you might meet other mums who live close to you. It really does help to know other first time mums. The classes themselves will be boring but you might learn something that you didn't already know?

Hi myermay. Heatherwood looks a bit grotty on the outside but it's actually really nice on the inside. I am seeing my midwife on Thursday so not too long to wait.

I'm finding it harder and harder to clean the house now. I'm reduced to just tidying up although I did weed the back lawn yesterday. I couldn't stand seeing the dandelions and I was secretly hoping that it would start labour off!

My pram arrived today though which really cheered me up but it's enormous! A real Mary Poppins type thing.

logic - nooooo to the dandelions - IME it means pain but no labour!

myermay - I know what you mean about the keeping the house tidy. DP was an absolute saint on Monday when I hurt myself, but it ended up putting him in bed for the day yesterday as it made his cold much worse. We can barely walk around our house now after 48 hours of us both out of it - I had never realised how much time I must spend doing tiny little tidying jobs, and there is now hardly any floor space - just little trails to get around!

logic · 13/04/2005 08:34

I've learned my lesson now fisil! lol
My house is exactly the same. Little walkways around the toys and toddler detritus. Today is officially my cleaning day but I think it might turn into a 'slob in front of the computer playing half-life and eating chocolate' day instead.

fisil · 13/04/2005 09:54

logic, I am not a doctor or midwife, but if I was, choc & half life would be exactly what I prescribe for you today! Sod the tidying - it will give visitors something to do!

Missblossom · 13/04/2005 10:00

Hi all,

Glad im not the only one struggling with the housework, Ive just made a half hearted attempt and its taken nearly 2 hours to do the down stairs, not even going to bother with upstairs.

Fisil, I pulled a muscle in my stomach at 27 weeks, I was in so much pain I thought I was going to die from it, and how did I do it?? Would you believe I coughed. So now I brace myself, quite funny to watch I suppose.

Logic, Im glad Im not the only one playing the computer, Ive got all the Sims games for the pc and playstation, they are very addictive. Mind you most days there is a queue for the pc,the kids excuse is always the same "ive got homework to do" I didnt know that "the sims" is now part of the national corriculum.

northstar · 13/04/2005 11:38

Ds is 3 today, I was up late last night blowing up balloons and wrapping scooby doo stuff, then he was awake at 6.30am and SOOOOO excited, so we had a lovely morning
I have been cleaning downstairs for two hours so we better get some visitors!!! My back is killing me and so is my front. Sometimes the baby feels so low down that it might just poke an arm or leg out

logic · 13/04/2005 11:45

I love pc gaming too, missblossom. I suppose it's my no.1 hobby although I don't get much time to indulge in it these days. The Sims is way too addictive.

Happy Birthday to northstar's ds!

I got to confess I'm a gaming addict too. Spent a large chunk of my maternity leave playing pc/xbox/ps2/gamecube games. Thought I'd make the most of the spare time before the baby comes.

Still managing to keep up with the housework at the moment though and in the last month I've decorated the lounge, bedroom, nursery and now considering doing the kitchen before baby is born. Alot easier to get things done though when I have the house to myself and I haven't got a toddler to care for like many of you have.

LittleB · 13/04/2005 13:41

Brighteyes, I was feeling the same as you about parentcraft classes, not sure whether to go and if I'll learn anything. Dp is pretty reluctant to come too, he's not a very social creature and doesn't really fancy it, he's doing so much overtime at the moment I don't mind if he wants to miss it on his time off, but I'm worried about being the only one on my own. I also haven't had the dates for it yet, don't kow when they'll start as I'm 35 weeks now, I guess the baby might arrive before the classes start! People keep commenting about how huge I am now and can't believe I'm going to get even bigger, I just can't wait untill I stop work, 2 1/2 weeks to go!

Tinker · 13/04/2005 13:52

Hello all

2 1/2 weeks left at work for me as well . Baby moving now a lot and it HURTS

Anyone got any stretch marks yet or a linea negra (right spelling?)?

Oh, linea negra (sp?) for me. I was trying to work out this morning when it showed up with DD, but I don't recall. And no stretch mark, but escaped them last time too. However, my skin is quite dry and itchy so I do slap the cream on anyway... just in case.

logic · 13/04/2005 15:27

No linea nigra this time but I did with ds. Weird. I'm not sure if I have new stretchmarks or if the old ones have opened up again but I do have some on my tummy. I definately wouldn't show them in public though unless it was on some remote beach somewhere.

Just had a hospital appointment and it was awful. My bp continues to get higher so I've had to have bloods taken and need to see the midwife every other day. Had my anti-d injection and ten mins later reacted to it and was faint and sick.
Then a student midwife and my regular midwife couldn't find the baby's heartbeat for what felt like ages. After consulting a third senior midwife they discovered the reason they had trouble finding the heartbeat is because the baby is so big and in order for him/her to have any room he/she has squashed her self as far back as possible. Baby is currently lying diagonally from under the right hand side of my ribs down to the left hand side of my pelvis, with no room to straighten out and engage. They are going to check again at the hospital on Tuesday but at the moment it looks like I will have to have a c-section.

Sorry to go on so much, it was just alot to take in and I'm at home alone at the moment rather upset by it all. Just needed to let it all spill out.

Brighteyes · 13/04/2005 15:43

btw, loads of ugly stretch marks but thats not suprising considering the size of the baby.

uwila · 13/04/2005 15:52

Oh brighteyes, have you had a c-section before? I'm sorry I can't remember if this is your first. And I'm too bloody lazy to check the stats thread.

uwila · 13/04/2005 15:53

And, I just noticed I left a word out of my earlier post, which was meant to read "Oh, no linea negra (sp?) for me. "

logic · 13/04/2005 16:34

Lots of hugs for you, Brighteyes. Obviously you are worried but as long as the baby is delivered safely and you are both ok, that's all that matters. Look, arranged c-sections are mega-civilised. I was really envious of the mums in hospital who turned up (having had time to shave their legs and put on make-up etc... )and were gently wheeled off and came back an hour later with their lovely babies. At least you won't have the horror of going overdue and then spending 2 days pushing and screaming!

flyingdog · 13/04/2005 16:35

Hello everyone,

Brighteyes sorry to hear about your traumatic visit - at least they're monitoring you at lot.

I had my 34wk check yesterday and they said I was measuring too small for my dates and I needed another scan (tomorrow) - so I'm a bit stressed about that. They said I was measuring 30cm (they didn't say what I should measure!)

Luckily I haven't any stretch marks yet - but I've got that nasty brown linea line (it even goes round my belly button - yuk)

uwila · 13/04/2005 16:41

Brighteyes, I too want to say that a c-section is not such a horrible experience. It has it's benefits for sure. And, really, if it's best for baby then what else matters. It's true that recovery will be harder. It's painful for a couple of weeks, but hey you get to skip delivery. Not really a bad deal (in my opinion).
