I think it's time for a new thread! The old one was getting huge...

Oh yes, torn between not believeing I'm going to have a baby next month to wishing it was out now! Could do with stopping work now, but working until the end of April, luckily only part time though, but fed up with baby being under ribs, back ache, heartburn, nausea, elephant ankles and now I keep snorting in my sleep and waking myself up, apparently due to ligaments softening and blocked sinuses, horrible, bad enough waking up to need the loo withour snorting too , dp says I've been whining and whimpering in my sleep too - probably down to being uncomfortable! Sorry for the big moan, can't wait to meet my baby though!

Weezle · 04/04/2005 13:27

Thanks for the info on nursing bras everyone - I meant to go shopping this weekend but then the sun came out and I didn't get round to it...but now that I know I'm supposed to do it 2/3 weeks before the due date I will hang on.

9 more days at work, and then 3 weeks at home, not that I'm counting the days! I don't really have much to complain about, apart from feeling tired and heavy, oh and full of snot too (LittleB you aren't the only one snorting in your sleep!) but like others I just want to get on with things and meet this baby

maymum · 04/04/2005 15:03

Hi everyone! Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well on the whole. I'm suffering with a mild version of most of the things in pregnancy books - heartburn, backache, stretch marks, piles, nights of broken sleep etc. etc. BUT I feel great! I'm so happy about being pregnant and excited about meeting my baby.

I really just wanted to tell you about a nursing bra I've bought. Its too early to buy a proper one, but I needed something for now, and came across the Yes! bra on eBay. I can thoroughly recommend it for anyone who is struggling to find a comfy bra, like I was. In the bigger cup size version, it's more of a crop top style, but is really comfy. I'm currently around 36E/F but the one I bought is stretchy and designed to fit a range of sizes, so should still fit me after my milk comes in, when the drop cups will come in handy. It's NOT an elegant bra, but I gave up trying to find one of those ages ago!

logic · 04/04/2005 19:01

Just 35 days to go until my due date! I'm feeling much happier now. One of my friends told me that one of her other friends turned up at her surgery recently for a midwife appt. for a stretch and sweep because she was a bit overdue and the midwife noticed that she was 8cm dilated!! Had the baby within a couple of hours. Wouldn't that be fantastic?

Sounds like a dream, logic!

I had to have a bath today cos bump was hurting. DP actually asked me whether he was allowed a drink tonight - obviously takes an achey bump seriously!

fisil · 04/04/2005 19:27

Bump is fine now. I think it might have been tiredness cos was away alone with ds Thurs & Fri and then had guests this w/end.

I know what you mean about the snuffly noses - last time I only had nosebleeds right at the beginning of the 2nd trimester, this time they have never stopped, and seem to be worse now (and usually at night!)

Maddison · 04/04/2005 20:19

Hi everyone, maymum i can't believe you're suffering all that and you're still so cheery!! Good for you

I'm really pleased to tell you all that my SIL gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at 3.30 this morning, despite being 4 weeks early she weighed in at 5lb 15oz!

SamCattie · 05/04/2005 08:24

ITs nice to hear we are all a little happier. I remember around Xmas time a lot of us were feeling depressed. Apart from wanting the baby out NOW, I feel pretty ok. Baby doesn't stop moving and is going to be a right fidget I think. Just wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing the same as me. I am now getting quite an ache and feel very heavy in the groin area. I am not due until the end of May and I know a lot of you are due before. Has anyone experienced the same? If so do you know what it is?

northstar · 05/04/2005 09:46

Hi all, hope you're all feeling well as can be expected
I've stopped nesting this week for some reason, and had a few pains low down yesterday and started to panic .........about the mess at home, kept thinking omg cant have it yet the house isn't tidy at all. So today i am planning to really tidy up and put alot of ds things up into the attic as he will be 3 next week, therefore theoretically making room for some of those new baby things. Although somehow it never seems to happen - more things just start appearing and taking over the space.
I lent alot of my stuff to an ex-friend (long story) ie steriliser, bath, breast pump ..... and i'm not sure wether to ask for them back. She sent a message through a mutual friend to say she hadnt forgotten about returning my things but that was when i first got pg. I dont want to inflame the situation between us by bringing up the subject, but I suppose i just want to know where i stand - any suggestions?

fashill · 05/04/2005 11:22

SamCattie - I'm due 27-05 and I've been feeling the baby moving around a hell of a lot (actually sometimes quite painful). Also been feeling the groin pains too. I mentioned it to my midwife yesterday and she said it was all normal so as long as they say that it keeps me happy.

I've been having the bunged up sinus problem but actually think it's turning into a cold as I have a major sore throat too. Been waking myself up with snorting when I'm dropping off to sleep! Probably run down too as I just feel I haven't stopped and can't really do the afternoon nap thing at the mo.

Was going to leave work at 38 wks but now feeling a lot more tired so don't think I'll last until then. Shouldn't be a problem though as work are flexible.

Do feel almost there though and have got almost everything already (typical organised Virgo!)

When does everyone recommend actually having the hospital bag packed?!? I was planning on doing it this weekend but wondered if that was too early.

Also, I had an NCT class last night and we went over the monitoring options. I only thought there was the sonic aid and the belt but apparently there are some more grusome ones too. what do you mummies recommend to use?!?

LittleB · 05/04/2005 12:35

Sorry for moaning on a bit yesterday, feeling a fair bit better today, I definitely have good days and bad days!
I read something about having your hospital bag packed by week 36, but I guess you probably can't pack it too early, at least it will be ready, mine isn't packed yet, although I've started buying things for it, a friend recommended Kendal mint cake to keep my energy levels up during labour if I don't feel like eating, and I'll probably have some Purdeys to give me energy too. She also suggested Olbas Oil, helped with the sruffy nose and kept her head clear whilst she was deep breathing, she said it helped her focus. Anybody else had other recommendations that aren't in the books? I figure its worth a try!

northstar · 05/04/2005 12:46

Both mine and baba's bags are packed! BUT, I keep taking things out of mine, like the spare hairbrush and the freshwipes - the bag will probably be empty when i arrive at the hospital but hey, an empty bag and no hairbrush never stopped a woman giving birth before

logic · 05/04/2005 13:12

You're very organised, northstar! I need to sort out the hospital bags this week. Hopefully going to order the pram tomorrow.

As for the monitoring, I just had the belt on when I arrived but I hated lying down and they took it off once they had watched the contractions for a while. After that, they just occasionally asked me to sit on the bed while they had a listen to the heartbeat...

Weezle · 05/04/2005 13:17

I'm due on 6 May and have been having pre-period type cramps, which seem to happen mostly at night and a heavy feeling in my groin. I think the head might be partly engaged too as I can definitely feel something solid against my pelvis, which definately wasn't there before! Am seeing the midwife tomorrow so will ask her about it and see what she says. I guess it must be normal for the last few weeks if we're all having the same sort of thing!

northstar · 05/04/2005 13:21

When i arrived at the maternity unit after my waters had broken, I was monitored for an hour, with a belt on. After that it was just occasionally until I had the epidural and then you have to be monitored constantly. I'm not sure what other methods of monitoring are available. Hope it's nothing inside

SamCattie · 05/04/2005 14:01

fashill I am due the same day as yours and I am getting quite painful groin pains too. In fact I just went out for my lunch break and had to stop walking for a minute as the pain was unbearable. I am getting paranoid now as I have visions of baby coming early! I am seeing the doctor tomorrow so hopefully she will put my mind at rest.

fisil · 05/04/2005 14:28

hospital bags made it to the front door today.

Labour bag: snacks for dp, water, huge grotty T-shirt, disposable camera (dp will do proper one & music), lucizade tabs, money for parking & phone, magazines, hair grips, birth plan, pens, and of course House at Pooh Corner. Did I miss anything?

Hospital bag: 3 babygros & vests, tiny nappies, nightie, day lounging around PJs, coming home clothes, breast pads, sexy disposable pants, cotton wool, maternity pads, baby hat & mits, baby blanket, towel, deodrant, hair brush, toothbrush, ADs, champagne, plastic cups, pressie from baby to ds.

And hospital notes & feeding bra to join later. Oh, and I need to ask dp whether he wants shorts & T-shirt in the labour bag.

maymum · 05/04/2005 16:10

fisil, my bag will contain much the same as yours, but with a few extras: lip balm, water spray & flannel, arnica tablets, TENS machine (will probably be using it anyway!) & slippers (bought for £1 at Tesco today!). Oh yes, and little bottles of shower gel & bath stuff.

I'm piling the stuff up on the baby's changing table at the moment. Who knows when it will make it into a bag (if I can find a bag big enough!!!!), but probably in the next few weeks. I'm not due until 23rd May.

shhhh · 05/04/2005 16:31

My labour and hospital bag contain roughly the same as the lists below from Fisil & maymum and have been ready since about week 29 !! Im due 15th May but I wanted to be prepared as a first timer.! Just need to add my notes & feeding bra. Fisil I did have a chuckle to myself when I saw you had champagne in yours.!!!! I wanted to do this but though I may get laughed at but suppose I will right ahead and do it, champagne & glasses are chilling now Well if "POSH" can then why can't we.!!

Can I ask...is anyone else getting quite worried and nervous about the birth? At the moment it's all I can think about and at times I get so ratty and upset with dh and I wish I han't afterwards (Poor man) I'm also thinking the worse and worrying about things or something that could go wrong with me iykwim, probably hormonal but it won't go away...Sorry if this starts anyone else worrying but it's now all I can think about.
Other than that i'm excited about baby's arrival and (you'll hate me for saying this) i'm feeling quite well..!!!

logic · 05/04/2005 16:46

I am getting period type pains too, especially at night. I'm assuming that they are practice contractions. Definately getting more frequent and more painful though. It's probably a good sign that my body is getting ready.

I think it's totally natural to be worried about the birth, Shhhh. Now and again, I do think about it but for me it's more along the lines of getting someone to look after ds etc... It's much more exciting the first time! I expect that when the time comes, you'll be more excited than frightened. Just think, you'll be able to sleep on your stomach afterwards. Bliss!

Missblossom · 05/04/2005 17:20

Hi all,

Shhhh, its perfectly normal to be worried especially if its your first. Its fear of the unknown. This is my fifth and I`m still terrified, in my case its more fear of the known than the unknown, Im a big coward when it comes to pain.

Ive got my bags packed and ready, just got to get batteries (for mp3 player) pens, magazines and puzzle books.

Ive been having braxton hicks for the last 2 - 3 weeks almost constantly, it makes just going to the local shop a mission on its own.

Brighteyes · 05/04/2005 17:28

Couple more things to mention for the hospital bag (if there wasnt enough stuff to get in there anyway)

Massage cream
Nipple cream
Hypercal cream (this is a natural remedy for cuts and grazes and is highly recommended for down below if you have to be stitched)

How many nappies should I take in?

uwila · 05/04/2005 17:42

Oh oh, pressie from new baby to older sybling is a brilliant idea. I'm going to pinch it. What did you (he/she) get?

Man,I'm normally the anal retentive planner and I have done nothing about a hospital bag... although my due date isn't until 29 May. Is anyone else planning a caesarean? I don't get to book it until 36 weeks (05 May) and they want to schedule it for 39 weeks. I'm a little nervous about the possibility of going into labour before then. I live quite far from the hospital, DH works in Birmingham, and my nanny has resigned effective 13 May. So, if I go into labour before scheduled caesarean, I'll have to drive myself with toddler in tow. Do you think the hospital has a babysitting service???? I'm just kidding, I'm sure they don't.

Tinker · 05/04/2005 17:48

at how organised you all are!
