I think it's time for a new thread! The old one was getting huge...

Oops - sorry, hello Flyingdog, I was trying to type that message for ages but keep getting hassled by my 4 yo DS, so our messages crossed!

Forgot to add that i told everyone that i didn't want DS1 to get called Dyl - and now he gets called other things instead.

uwila · 15/03/2005 16:19

No, I don't have to. I want to. In fact, I'm prepared to cause all kinds of trouble if they try to resist. I discussed this with a consultant at my booking appointment. She basically said come back and we'll revisit this discussion when you are 36 weeks. So, I've marked up my maternity notes to reflect my very clear desire for a caesarean. My hope is that my persistance will get me what I want.

flyingdog · 15/03/2005 16:24

Names are so hard to come up with - I'd love something unusual (Bailey is lovely btw), but I also get snears from family. I'm having a girl and would love to call her Bree, but everyone laughs and I get the 'cheese' insults. DP wants Ellie, which is nice, but I've heard it a lot lately - don't like the idea of being fashionable! What does everyone honestly think of Bree???

logic · 15/03/2005 16:25

I didn't intend to shorten ds' name but I do anyway so I expect it will be the same next time. I think you're right about choosing the short form ourselves and making it stick though, preggars.

Hello flyingdog! Our group really seems to be growing! Btw, we have a stats thread where we have put some details about ourselves if you want to contribute to that - it makes it easier than scrolling through the main thread

Maddison, I really like Bailey! We had the same trouble with ds even though he has a really popular name - we just ignored the comments.

OP posts:
flyingdog · 15/03/2005 16:28

Thanks logic, - how do I find the stats thread - scuse ignorance.

logic · 15/03/2005 16:31

I remember there being an actress on an American programme called Brie - short for Brianne apparently. I think it sounds nice, certainly unusual! Ellie is very popular but we picked a top 5 name for ds and he's the only one in his gym class, antenatal group and dance class so it's never been a problem.

I knew a bree at Uni. It was short for Brekera. Her mum named her after a horse in a romance novel she read whilst pregnant. What a thing to be named after! But, the funny thing is that the only kind of cheese she didn't like was Brie.

Preggars · 15/03/2005 16:45

Welcome flyingdog - we share the same due date.

maymum · 15/03/2005 17:16

Welcome flyingdog & Missblossom!

I love the name Bailey - have thought about using it myself actually, but decided on something else. Also like Fancesca - I know a lady who calls herself Ces and I like that - it really suits her too. DH and I decided not to tell anyone our name choices, and have pretty much kept them to ourselves. I don't want to know people's opinions at this stage, and I'm hoping that once the baby is born, people will keep their opinions to themselves.

I'm waiting for a midwife to call me back at the moment. My 'tummy tightenings', which are probably Braxton Hicks, have been happening more and more frequently over the last few weeks, and lasting longer (probably twice an hour, taking any time between 2-10 minutes to ease off). They aren't painful (actually 1 was on sunday), but a bit uncomfortable, and I just want reassurance that it's 'normal' for them to be like this. Anyone else experienced the same thing?

fashill · 15/03/2005 17:53

Welcome all new ladies x

Maymum - I've been feeling that quite a bit today and ove the weekend ended up calling the hospital on Sat night and they said it wasn't worth coming in, it's normal etc etc. But they also say mother knows best so if I really get worried I'll take myself up there. Hope it's all okay for you.

I've bought the Avent microwave steriliser too as I've been told they are great and also it can stay in the microwave not taking up counter space!

Everyone is choosing lovely names. We'll probably go with Charles if it turns out to be a boy.

Hope you feel better soon, maymum.

I spent 3 hours in the hairdressers yesterday. It was lovely to be pampered up until the hair washing. The baby did not like being leaned back and it seemed to pull one of my muscles really badly in my stomach.

Brighteyes · 15/03/2005 18:32

Welcome to the new ladies. Nice to see the numbers growing.

Lots of posts to catch up on today which is great, but think we have a long way to go till we chat as much as the June thread. Have you seen those lot (I'm another one who lurks on other months threads ).

Some lovely name suggestions ladies. Maddison I absolutely love the name Bailey, think I would be tempted to pinch it for my own if I hadn't already decided on names.

We've picked Evan for a boy and Cerys for a girl.
In-laws were distraught when they heard the name Cerys, apperantly FIL's first girlfriend was called Cerys so MIL hates the name. Makes it even more appealing knowing that she dislikes it. Aint I wicked?

Maddison · 15/03/2005 18:50

pmsl Brighteyes, you bad girl!!

I thought about Cerys for a girl aswell (just incase the sonographer got it wrong!) but DH has insisted on Elise (after a bloody car!)

fisil · 15/03/2005 18:54

Hello Missblossom and flyingdog. What a busy day! I saw mw yesterday and had a visit from a social worker today! It was just to see if I need any additional support - apparently I've alarmed them all by saying that I am convinced that my depression will improve once I give birth. They don't agree - hence the extra support!

We haven't started discussing names yet. We have booked next Wednesday to go out and have a nice lunch and discuss. We did the same last time - we've each written a list, then we'll look at each other's list and discuss. We also refused to discuss/mention names to anyone else - my mum did with me and got some negative comments and so called me something else when I was born, until they decided they actually liked my name and sod the comments - and I don't like knowing that there are some close relatives who don't like my name. Ds has a very unusual name, but no-one has ever passed negative comment on it because the first time they heard it it was attached to a real person! So we'll do the same this time. I think Cerys is beautiful (but then I have loads of girl names, and hardly any boy names!).

uwila · 15/03/2005 20:32

My little boy is going to be Alexander Robert Rathbun surname. No one has yet really said that they didn't like it, and I don't give a toss if they do.

My sisters tried to convince me otherwise on the middle names, but I told them the decision was made and their opinions were not going to affect the outcome.

Although, I will confess that I consulted my mother a bit on the selection process.

logic · 15/03/2005 20:44

I really like Alexander but that's what my cousin called her son. She's pregnant again too and I did wonder about keeping silent on our name choices just in case but dh insisted that we should publish them first!

OP posts:
Missblossom · 15/03/2005 21:00

We`ve not come up with any names yet for our boy (well not sensible ones anyway dh has come up with Zola or Roman) (hes a chelsea fan).
When we had no, 4 mil got the right hump because we didnt name her after her and went round telling every one what a stupid name we had given
her. All my girls are colours so we called her Sienna

logic · 15/03/2005 21:08

Tricky isn't it? You can never please everyone. I've spent two pregnancies with my mum asking me if we've picked 'a nice name yet'

OP posts:
flyingdog · 16/03/2005 09:45

Maddison my DP also loves the name Elise also because of a car, he has a Lotus (an Espre not Elise) so that's the only reason. I do love the name Sienna Missblossom. I'm on overload when it comes to names at the mo - I like lots, but can't stick to anything. Maybe when I see her, I'll know!! Actually after all this it had better be a girl - I've broughts loads of girls clothes and DP is desperate for a girl. At my scan I was told they're 95% sure it's a girl, but they could be wrong. I'm tempted to look into having a 3D scan - has anyone else thought about that?

logic · 16/03/2005 09:51

Elise was on our name list too. Holly was having a 3d scan soon, they look really good.

I love my PILs. They've offered to buy us a Silver Cross pram for the new baby! Can't wait to go shopping for it

OP posts:
flyingdog · 16/03/2005 09:55

Wow Logic it's nice to have great PIL - a Silver Cross pram is lovely. My mum was nice enough to buy the pram & car seat (maxi cosi), and my PIL brought the cot bed - so we're feeling very spoilt too.

Missblossom · 16/03/2005 10:29

I wish I had nice PIL, mine hate my guts for ruining their little boys life (Im 9 years older than him and already had 3 kids when we met). So there for I only wanted him for his money and a father for my kids. We have been together nearly 6 years his mum now tolerates me but his dad wont even acknowledge that me and the kids are now family only the youngest, wich is dhs first child.Anyway I`m changing the subject, talking about it makes me want to punch FIL head in.

I asked my hospital about the 3d scans but they dont do them and wont be doing them any time soon, which is a shame, Ive seen them on TV and they look quite good.

I`m thinking about getting the Tommee Tippee steam steriliser merely because it looks nice, lol. Any body know if they are actually any good?

shhhh · 16/03/2005 10:34

Flyingdog, in relation to your question re: 3D scans. DH & I had a 3d scan about 4 weeks ago and we would totally recommend it to anyone. Like you at our 20/21 weeks scan we were told that it was a very high chance that we were having a girl (although they won't be 100% sure),we've bought loads of pink items and so far only have girls names .
Luckily at the 3D scan it was again confirmed that we are expecting a girl. Again they won't be 100% but the way we look at it is that we have had 2/2 confirmations that it's a girl. We also got to see her "lady bits" although we know the sex could be wrong if the "boy bits" were tucked away.!
Basically what i'm saying is that no scan can be 100% accurate as to what sex baby is but it gives you another opinion and if you can afford the 3d scan then why not go for it?! The dvd/video and pictures you get and what you see on the day is such a moving and amazing thing.
Hope the scan goes well.
