one last post: pixsix if you're still thinking about the Oxfam filming thingy, I've been told to meet under Jubilee Bridge (South Bank) at 12pm.

pixsix · 18/09/2008 09:50

effie I was told that too! See you there hopefully!

Olipop · 18/09/2008 09:54

Hi Effie - the coat was a normal Hennes one but it seems to have been cut for pregnant women!! You're near covent garden aren't you? It was the shop on long acre, upstairs on a circular rail just infront of the stairs. There were pink, black and grey ones but they didn't have black in my size so I had to go for shocking pink!!!!!!

I'm going to need you all to keep me company today. My boss is off and has left me NO WORK!!! I can't believe it. I think he has written me off already!!! I'm scouting around for jobs to do but it's a bit of a poor show really..

I went to see Dirty Dancing last night! It was brilliant! Very cheesey but a great laugh...just feeling a bit tired now!

Veggiemummy · 18/09/2008 10:04

godmorning i actually feel awake this morning and what a beautiful day it is, it's off to the park with the farm for DS & I (after my morning coffee) this is the 1st morn in ages i have felt this good

Olipop · 18/09/2008 10:10

excellent veggie - glad you are feeling perky! I took DS to the farm on friday but he was so non plussed by the animals....just wanted to ride the pedal tractors!

Beans33 · 18/09/2008 10:23

OLI - welcome to my world at work! I'm so unbusy, it's amazing. Quite like it.

Had some sad news this morning. Went to dinner with one of my oldest and closest friends last night who was 10 weeks pregnant, but told me she'd had a bit of spotting and what should she do. I told her to go to St George's to get it checked this morning, but sure it was ok and nothing to worry about. Poor thing went in this morning and there's no heartbeat, so she has to have an operation on Monday to have the foetus removed. I'm so gutted for her. It's such a tough thing to go through. I was luckier as mine happened earlier, so imagine it must be awful for her. She'd just started telling people as well, as she thought she'd be ok. She's already got a little girl and they'd been trying for this one for about 7 months. I'm so sad. She was crying down the phone gently and I managed not to cry til I came off the phone, but I'm so sad for her.

Sorry, a bit of a sad post this morning. Miscarriage is just so horrible and however much we know it's quite common, it doesn't make it any better when it happens, if you know what I mean. F sad.

EffiePerine · 18/09/2008 10:28

Beans: sorry to hear about your friend . You did exactly the right thing and it must be a comfort to her knowing you have been through a similar situation.

Oli: will check out the coat. Much better than trekking to the Regents St store for the tiny maternity range. I'm finding my normal H&M stuff in a 14 fits but the maternity stuff is large (i.e. 18-20). Bizarre. Maybe they think pg women shrink?

Olipop · 18/09/2008 10:39

Oh beans - that is so sad...I had exactly the same before DS. When they scanned me they said the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks and I had to have an op too which was horrible (the actual op was fine and not painful but it's the emotional side of it all). It makes you feel guilty for being pregnant though doesn't it. I just sent a catch up email to a friend who had a baby that died just after she was born. She specifically asked me how I was doing but I couldn't bring my self to mention it in my reply.

Effie..I normally wear a 12 and bought a 14 for the extra space. It feels pretty big so I think that the cut is generous.

emmanbump · 18/09/2008 10:45

Beans that is so so sad. At least your friend is blessed with a daughter but I am sure that doesn't make it any easier.

Oli Just read about your friend too. Gosh I am nearly in tears. Your poor friend......

TheInvisibleHand · 18/09/2008 10:46

Beans - so sorry for your friend. That's awful.

Olipop - congratulations on being an aunt! Glad it was easy for your SIL. Also thanks for the coat tip - I am also wondering what to do. Got away without buying anything last time as DD was born in May, but not sure it can be avoided this time round and hate to spend a fortune on something that will get so little use.

Turnip - My birthday is also the 16th.

Sadly plenty to do here, but somehow little energy/inclination to do it. Slightly exhausted this morning as MIL was staying and also DD had a mystery allergic reaction to something yesterday evening which made her quite poorly, so lots of drama last night. All fine this morning, but still...

Olipop · 18/09/2008 10:55

Ooh dear Hand..that was a bit worrying..especially if you don't know what caused it.

I know Emmanbump, it was really horrible. She knew there was going to be a problem and didn't know whether the baby would survive birth or last a little while but she only lived a few hours. It was awful awful awful but she is doing really well. I don't know really how you bounce back from that but I think it helps that she already has a little girl. You can't curl up in a ball when you have a 2 year old needing you.

Lets be happy now! I'm going to Patissirie (sp) Valerie and having cake for lunch with another pregnant girl! Wahooo!

Beans33 · 18/09/2008 11:09

Yes, we should all definitely be happy now and be relieved that we're ok. And pleased we're pregnant!

xx

artichokes · 18/09/2008 11:30

Morning - I got a better night's sleep last night so am rather brighter today. DH has the day off and I have left him with a list as long as his arm of things to prepare the baby's nursery, I hope he is keeping busy.

Sorry to hear about your friend Beans - its nice she has you to talk to.

Hand - hope your DD is feeling better. DD had a very severe reaction to formula when she was a baby and so I know how scarey allergies can be.

TheInvisibleHand · 18/09/2008 11:37

Oli and Arti - thank you, she is absolutely fine this morning. We know DD is allergic to all kinds of foodstuffs (milk, eggs, nuts, kiwi fruit(!?)) so we are kind of used to dealing with it are equipped for emergencies and most of the time avoid the things that can set her off. This time was a bit weird as it doesn't seem to be anything she ate - possible candidates seem to be sniffing flowers in our front garden or the cleaning materials that had just been used to do the bath, but its frustrating not to know. The other thing is that DD seems to have a ridiculously high pain threshold, so she doesn't really let you know anything is wrong until things are really bad. Having MIL around didn't really help as she isn't really the calmest of people. But anyway, crisis over for now!

Beans33 · 18/09/2008 11:50

gosh, that does sound quite tricky, invisible. Poor you. Glad she's ok now though.

I'm off for blood pressure check this afternoon - hoping it'll be lower. Am coughing like mad still today, so am going to go home at lunchtime and put my feet up for a bit pre-appointment!!

rosmerta · 18/09/2008 12:13

beans and oli am sorry to hear about your friends.

hand glad your dd is feeling better.

Ds was up early this morning so we've just stayed local. Not sure what we're going to do the rest of the day, I'm finding it harder to keep up with him!

zoejeanne · 18/09/2008 13:11

How sad for your friends beans and oli, and beans you're right - we must be grateful that we're ok. for us all

hand good to hear your DD has recovered as quickly as it struck, and also very good to hear about the two of you who had fun trips to farms - can't wait for days out like that!

oli was dirty dancing at the theatre? I'd love to see that! Did you manage not to fidget through it? I've been invited for a birthday trip to see Never Forget in a couple of months - but I don't know whether to go or not. Is a 2 hour train journey, plus the show too much for someone who will be 32 weeks?

I went to yoga last night - does anyone else find that their baby starts doing yoga inside them? I thought the gentle movements would soothe littleZJ, but he gets too excited by it!

Have a good afternoon everyone (lots of sun here, so I hope you all have some too - it's lovely)

SummerLightning · 18/09/2008 13:20

bean and oli that is sad for your friends, and yes, let's have a happy day where we are grateful!!

zj me and a friend are booked to go and see frankie off mock the week (forgotten his last name, the scottish one!) at the theatre, I will be 34 weeks and she will be 38 - yikes! I either hope he is not funny or that our pelvic floors hold out!

No, I find the opposite in yoga, which is always good, as I always think that if he gives me a big uncermonial boot when they are doing the "Think about the baby, breathe for the baby..." stuff, I will giggle!

reban · 18/09/2008 13:54

beans and oli so sorry for your friends' losses, it does make you realise how lucky you are.

rosmerta my ds2 will be 2 1/2 on 4th october. He has shown no inclination towards potty training but i was kind of hoping with encouragement it might just click! Not a chance!
He starts playgroup 3 mornings a week when he hits 2 1/2 and they dont change nappies so if he has a pooey one i will get a telephone call to go and change his nappy not what i want. Also really wanted to get him out of nappies before next one arrives as i did a year and half of two in nappies with ds1 and ds2!

rosmerta · 18/09/2008 14:09

Reban, my ds was 2 1/2 over the summer and that was exactly when he started using the potty himself. I just had one in the living room, left his pants off when we were at home & he started doing it himself. Perhaps leave the potty there & see how he does on his own?

EffiePerine · 18/09/2008 14:51

well pixsix and I were at the oxfam/white ribbon alliance/breakdancing thingy at lunchtime and it was great! Despite being told (after the free chocolate) that we should be dancing too ('dancing' rather loosely applied to me, but hey). There will be a video. I may even link to it once I've previewed for any embarrassing content. And the sun shone

kmp1 · 18/09/2008 14:54

Beans and Oli I will stop complaining about being booted at night from now on.
Kimberley yeah I know what you mean - I left know ing only about QLD health in Australia then finally got use to the US system (I was with Kaiser) and then back to the different system again in the UK! I can't get my head around how all the NHS trusts rules / procedures are SO different!

Olipop · 18/09/2008 15:09

Oh god...I just had the biggest chocolate cake and feel soooooo sick....but it was lovely!

Zoe - it was the one at the theatre and I was okish but whenever I sit for a while my tailbone really really hurts so that was a bit uncomfy. Also..I was sat in the stalls near the exit to the loo. My tiny bladder was telling me to go and I was umming and ahhing and even half stood up but decided to wait as it was near the end and i didn't want to miss the dance scene...good bloody job as 5 seconds later 'Johnny' came bursting through the very same door!! Could have been an awful moment of either him flattening me and me doing my best 'turtle stuck on its back' impression or me knocking him out and ruining the performance! My friend was in hysterics when she realised what a close call it was!

rosmerta · 18/09/2008 15:27

oli, lol @ your near joining in of Dirty Dancing

Olipop · 18/09/2008 15:28
