Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oblomov Sorry to hear about your bad night it sounds horrendous and I really hope the steroid injection this afternoon relieves the pain. at yout GP's attitude, paracetamol does nothing for this kind of pain. It's fortunate that you've got the back-up of your team at Kings who are much more experienced than she is. Are there several GPs at the practice? If so you could start seeing another one there without going through the hassle of changing completely. I sympathise and hope you feel better by this evening.

MonkeyMargot · 17/09/2008 08:34

Obs You poor thing. The pain sounds absolutely terrible. I have my own acronym for GP's: generally pointless . Fingers crossed the steroid injection does the trick for you.
Lacks thanks for the tips for us first-timers. Its a comfort to know that all of you felt exactly the same the first time around.
I want to buy an electric pump also - is the medala one the best to get then?

Dozymare · 17/09/2008 09:34

I can also vouch for the Medala pump - it was great

tostaky you haven't posted for ages! how are you??!!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 17/09/2008 09:44

Morning all, sorry I haven't been around for the last few days, being dh's nursemaid plus I home ed my boys who love computer time, so I get kicked off! Sorry I can't possibly catch up with all your chatter, lol!

Oblomov, I am sorry to hear about your rough night, I hope the steriod injection brings some relief for you.

Misdee, ouch to your dd3's hand, sounds painful.

Seems our run of bad luck is continuing, first dh with his bloody bike stunt gone wrong leaving him with gammy leg, then the boiler pretty much conked yesterday so have no heating or hot water. I can get the boiler on in very short bursts, but some kind of valve inside isn't shutting properly, so when the boiler is pressurised, the water just pours out the overflow and switches itself off again within 20 odd minutes. I guess that means I need to have a very quick bath/shower later. I am now wondering what the 3rd thing could be. I am actually starting to think that baby will have plans to ruin our Centreparcs break in 2 weeks. We go for a midweek break on the 29th Sept and I will turn 36 weeks while there. I am almost willing to put money on baby deciding to make some kind of arrival or land me in hospital, especially as we didn't take any kind of cancellation cover (didn't know about bump at the time!)

34 weeks today. I will have to put my belly pic up in a bit, thankfully I think my growth has slowed down as I don't see much of a difference over the last few weeks.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/09/2008 09:51

I would recommend the medela pump as well if you are going to be doing lots of pumping. You can get different sized funnels for it as well to accommodate bigger or smaller boobs rather then the one size fits all with the avent ones etc. I had to stop using my Avent pump as it was giving me blocked ducts all the time, probably cos the funnel was too small.

I'll see how I go this time as with all the wieght I've lost my boobs are definately smaller.

obs.....GPs can be real arses about things. they look in the BNF and what it says is gospel. I know someone who is also pregnant ans suffers really badly from depression, panic attacks and anxiety and her GP refused to prescribe anything, even though she was getting really ill. She finally managed to convince her GP to do a referral to the perinatal MH team and of course the consultant has siad it's perfectly OK to use some ADs. But my god she has been suffering for nearly 20 weeks.

DD is in a right old grump this morning and seems just not herself. She has refused breakfast and milk and just wants cuddles, but when I cuddle her in she thrashes to get away.

Add to that another sleepless night for me plus gastric reflux so bad that I have thrown up twice this morning; we are not a happy household.

Off to cuddle DDand get her back to bed then that's where I'm going for a bit.

morning ladies, thanks everyone for the pumping advice last night, it is greatly appreciated.
lackadaisycal also the advice on layers! this has been stressing me out a bit!!
hope you and DD get back to bed soon.

obs hope the steroid inj helps and you get some relief soon.
heartmum hopefully thats your turn of bad luck over and you will have a lovely holiday before baby arrives

cricri christening is in 3 weeks!
i am going to get him a money box from tiffanys but wanted something special that could only be from his godmother, i have had a look at a few websites and there are a few things.......im just stressing about my outfit and what shoes i can squeeze my swollen feet into! my friend thinks it hillarious as i never gave her much sympathy when she had swollen feet whilst pregnant!!

oh also cricri, it cant be long until your next scan?? hope all goes well and everything still on track for your home birth.

Heartmum2Jamie · 17/09/2008 10:25

Right, got my belly pics up, 34, 32 & 30 weeks. I actually think my 34 week belly is smaller than the 32 week one (baby must be lying differently). I am so glad I take my pics as soon as I roll out of bed cos I look sooo different last thing at night, much, much bigger!

Anyone else have any to share?

MonkeyMargot · 17/09/2008 10:29

HeartMum Great bump pics! You look really slim everywhere else too (you cow!) Your 32 week pic does look bigger than 34 weeks!
The only thing I have to share this morning is chronic heartburn. Which is rubbish as I'm going out for lunch with a client today and I LOVE my food!

Heartmum2Jamie · 17/09/2008 10:36

Sorry to hear about your heartburn MM, especially when going out for lunch. I hope it eases up a bit.

ChocOrange05 · 17/09/2008 10:49

Morning all!

LondonLadiesWotTea - so far I see we have Dozy, Monkey and CriCri saying yes. Obs are you coming too? Can we have confirmation from anyone else and then I can make a reservation?

Obs sorry you had a bad night - hope today gets better!

Heartmum your bump looks great! I see what you mean about the change in size.

Monkey I bought the Avent ISIS iQ electric breastpump as it got good reviews - but of course I haven't used it yet!

Hana thanks for the sling advice - I knew you were the lady to ask!

ruthosaurus · 17/09/2008 10:54

Obs, heartmum, daisy, you poor things. What a load you have been dealing with recently. Obs, I never see the same GP for anything, pregnancy related or not, but there seem to be three types at my local surgery - scared 12 year old boy scout who keeps looking in a book, keen 21 year old head girl who wants to try new stuff out on you and battleaxe who was in the war and won't tolerate weakness in any form. The practice nurse is always loads better - nice, knowledgeable, cheery - but unfortunately isn't actually allowed to do anything when she should really be running the whole show.

Antenatal last night was fun - more later but got a meeting now (woo!).

ruthosaurus · 17/09/2008 10:55

I've just had a heated "discussion" with a colleague and am now seeing spots . Is that normal?

LackaDAISYcal · 17/09/2008 10:58

It could indicate problems with your blood pressure ruthosaurus, which is no doubt elevated after your disagreement. When are you seeing the MW next? Keep an eye on it (no pun intended, lol ) and if it doesn't settle it might be worth popping in to see the MW, AN unit or your GP for a bood pressure test. I'd be inclined to see someone anyway as high BP can indicate lots of other things. Take some time out and relax.....and spit in your colleagues tea for revenge

Oblomov · 17/09/2008 11:00

Thanks for all the nice messages.
I dropped ds at school. His first day went well yesterday. And then I jumped back into bed. BLISS. I am doing NOTHING today.
I had 4 hrs of ds in school yesterday and did loads off my to do list. But today, because of particulalry bad night, I am doing nothing.
God this is heaven. I like this ALOT

I have created a new thread for our LondonTeaMeetUp so we don't have to hijack this one anymore and get all confundled. Interested people can find it here

MerryMarigold · 17/09/2008 12:13

obs, sorry for bad night and jealous of the 4hrs in bed. Hope the pain allows you some sleep. I slept 2hrs last night, but not pain, I think just stress and baby kicking a lot. My hand is numb again today, but not hurting.

hana - expressing already ? I hope you don't have oversupply probs like I did, they are a pain in the butt, although everyone says 'how lucky you have plenty of milk'. Not lucky when gthe baby wakes 2x per night, but you are up 5x because of bursting boobs. Definitely produce a lot more at night, so first thing in am is quite a good time to express as there is usually much to much for a baby to drink.

ChocO, I am getting jealous of your nice teatime out . I never do nice things like that [self pity emoticon]! Can you think of a PMA for me in this scenario: I can't make nice Mumsnet tea meet-up, but...now that's a stroke of luck. Obs is deffo coming, having her haircut especially .

GPs, don't get me started! Love the acronym, MonkMarg I have had one truly excellent GP in my whole life, luckily she appeared at the right time and pretty much changed my life! (I was battling undiagnosed with an illness for 4 years before she worked it out, being told by GP's that I was basically a hypochondriac despite having to leave work afer 3 years of it).

Saurus, def look forward to your post on the antenatal class. It's gonna have me in stitches . If you're not a writer then you should be.

Lacka and Heartmum, thanks for your posts - they make me feel better about my life !!! I have no reason to whinge in comparison. Seriously though, I hope things get a lot better, QUICKLY, for you both.

OK. lunchtime...

Oblomov · 17/09/2008 12:44

Yes, count me in for afternoon tea. Can't wait.

Oblomov · 17/09/2008 12:51

I am loving the GP acronyms aswell.
Ruthy, you do make me laff.

Pinkglow · 17/09/2008 12:53

My husband has the worst GP ever and he cant be bothered to change him yet still moans about him. He hardly ever goes to the doctor as well.

Interesting about expressing - I was also planning to do this to hopefully get a bottle a day out of it then breastfeed the rest of the time (I say hopefully as I guess you never know how its going to work out till the time comes)

I got the mini medela which ive heard sounds like a JCB but havent looked at it yet.

Oblomov · 17/09/2008 13:02

Pinkglow, yes it does sound like a JCB. Ha ha. Looking forward to the serenity of using mine

Pinkali37 · 17/09/2008 13:10

Hello

So i actually do some work for 2 days ( at actually doing work) and I can't keep up with the thread plus 2 ew peole join. Hello pinkglow and mummynic, welcome to the crazy thread.

My sister daughter born on Sunday is still nameless!! HOw silly is this? They are waiting for her to look like a name? Blimey she could be 18 before having one at this rate. Poor child. How can anyone bond with a nameless child? My mother went down on Monday and keeps telling me how good my sister looks, how well she is coping... this putting enormous pressure on me!! My labour will undoubtedly be the opposite i.e. long and so painful and i will cope terribly still having teary moments when i just don't think i will be able to cope. I jsut keep thinking who will feed all the animals? DH keeps telling me that I wanted them all so I have to feed them, but what about when the baby is first born?

I have too much to do in my house. Oh... I've started having panick attacks in the shower and have to jump out as i feel like i can't breath properly. Also everyone is talking about maternity leave whereas I am now working full time since employee was sacked and god knows when this will get resolved. I just feel like things are going backwards not forwards.

SORRY entire post is a moan... SORRY x
