welcome pink! - I was 21 weeks with my first before I felt anything, it is amazing though!

OddEyes · 26/10/2008 22:00

welcome all newbies! am excited as is half term tomorrow and ds in nursey as usual plus it is my first appointment with consultant for this pregnancy hope you all have a good week all!

LuLuBai · 27/10/2008 09:25

Hello - welcome Pinkadink. I am nearly 17 weeks and starting to feel tiny little movements now but if I hadn't had one child already I probably would have confused them with wind .

conkertree · 27/10/2008 11:27

hi pinkadink and everyone else.

about movements - I think you can be unsure the first time round whether it really is the baby or something else, but for me, this time round, I recognised it straight away cause it feels quite unique - today its been like a little butterflies wings flapping quickly.

am so looking forward to christmas this year - two years ago i was newly pregnant and being sick everywhere, and last year, tinsel still made me feel sick, but this year, i cant wait. Think ds will have a really great time, and I bought Nigella Lawson's christmas book so have lots of plans for biscuits/decorations etc to make. I know its only October, but every other year I think of things to do but alwys think I need to leave it, then I find its 20th December and I havent done anything that I planned, so this year, I am going to get things made in November, ready to decorate etc with at the start of December.

I love how much energy I have just now - sorry to those still feeling sick though. Hopefully we should all be through the worst in the next few weeks, although it sounds like loads of people have colds etc too. Guess its just that time of year.

LuLuBai · 27/10/2008 11:37

Hi Conkertree - I'm having pregnant 'domestic goddess' moments too. Haven't got into Christmas mode yet, but have my Pumpkins ready to carve for Halloween. I made a whole batch of chutney a couple of weeks ago and find myself strangely enthusiastic about dusting and polishing. The middle trimester is definitely the best.

The only downside is that now I'm not feeling sick I do find myself hankering after a glass of wine in the evening once DD is asleep. I do allow myself a thimble-full about once a week (a glass of red wine has a lot of health benefits) but I don't enjoy it all that much as I'm too busy feeling guilty.

conkertree · 27/10/2008 12:19

I know exactly what you mean lulubai - not drinking didnt really bother me with ds, but this time round, I really feel drawn to the wine glass.

Dh is being very nice and not drinking too often, but still, sat down at pil for salmon, then roast pork yesterday and its just not the same with fruit juice (not to mention spending the afternoon with pil being a lot less bearable without wine ).

I really love the taste of wine and get so sick of sweet juice all the time - i like water, and jazz it up with a slice of lemon, but i really miss the taste of wine.

Alcoholic post over.

LuLuBai · 27/10/2008 12:27

Yup - I love the taste too. So sick of herbal tea and while I love fruit juice it doesn't really enhance a good meal in the same way.

Bonfire night coming up without a glass of mulled wine .

(sorry to those of you who are still struggling to lift your head out of the loo)

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 13:29

Hey all

Welcome pinkadink

I think I am very fortunate in the sense that although I did drink before hand, I never really liked the taste of alcohol so that's the one thing I am not missing!

I have to say I have been really worried about not feeling the baby at all - am 18+ weeks so thought I would feel something but have been very reassured that it might not be until 20+ week - am looking forward to my scan next week tho so I can see the baby again and just make sure everything is OK!!! Can't wait to feel it tho as at least then I will be reassured that everything is Ok as I will feel it moving around!!! (not sure I will be saying that in a few months when the kicking is keeping me awake!!!)

Hope everyone is ok today xx

SpringySunshine · 27/10/2008 14:53

It's lovely looking at that list & it actually meaning something now. At first, everyone on it was just an unknown pregnant lady - now we're beginning to get to know each other & we'll all be sitting here in April waiting to see who's going to pop next. I've been half-reading the current November 2008 thread - it's great seeing how exciting it becomes towards the end, even though none of them can sleep or get comfortable anymore

I've had a mini-panic this afternoon over on the pregnancy board - my midwife phoned & asked if she could come to my flat & take bloods pretty much right now & I got all manner of ideas into my head. Turns out she only needed the one for Sickle Cell & the sample must have clotted / been spilt, etc. As I'm white British, I'm not too paranoid about any ulterior motives - I probably would've been for some of the other tests

She also mentioned that she'd not heard anything about my Down's results yet & she would have expected to have done if there was an increased risk. So although I still have to wait for the letter, I'm feeling quite positive about that.

conkertree, I'm so excited about Christmas too! I'm already planning how I'm going to (cheaply) decorate our flat. It's going to be the year of the paper chains, I think. This is one of my favourite websites in the world & I'm intending to spend invest a small fortune in cookie cutters, etc. I love that we get Christmas when we're feeling full of energy & still not too massive to do anything & I'm going to fully make the most of it. DP & I have decided that we're going to have a really self-indulgent, childish Christmas with each other before we have to be the grown ups & assume the role of Santa ourselves. We shan't be able to move for chocolate

SpringySunshine · 27/10/2008 14:55

Oh, also (I knew there was something I'd forgotten in yet another one of my epic posts!), welcome pinkadink! How rude of me to forget! I'm blaming it on the baby brain

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/10/2008 15:30

Hello ladies

(It's LittleMyDancing btw, do you like my new name?)

Am very tired today.

SpringySunshine - glad your blood drama wasn't anything scary!

Welcome pinkadink

Just dropped in to show off my new name, really, nothing much to report!

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 15:50

Haha! I love your new name LittleMy / FreshHell -

Bizarrely I always feel so much worse on Monday and kind of pick up on a Thursday - I think it's having to go from a fairly chilled weekend to the structure of a workday!

Conkertree /Springy I am the world's biggest Xmas fan, have so many decorations all over the place and have to fight to wait until December to put them up! I LOVE Christmas so much - last year was my husbands first Christmas (He is muslim and had never celebrated before) and we went crazy - was so much fun! I always make DH walk down the seasonal isle in every supermarket we go in - there is a little shop in LondonBridge called the Christmas shop and I could spend hours in there!!!

Only 8 weeks to go!!!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/10/2008 15:52

oh BabyBolat you're like my SIL - I think she spends all year waiting for Christms!

This year we're hiring a big cottage for family Christmas as noone's house is big enough, and we proposed that as it costs a fair bit, we should only buy presents for children and not adults.

You should have heard her protest! 'But, oh, but, can I just buy little ones for adults? Pleeeeeeeze? I'll only spend £20 on each one? Ok, £10? £5? PLeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze?!'

I PMSL!

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 16:02

Haha - yes that sounds like me! I say ever year that I will cut back but never do - always find so many things that would be perfect for people!!! I love the wrapping up as much as the unwrapping!!!

Ah cottage does sound lovely! We always go to my parents for Christmas (mainly because DH's family don't celebrate it) and it is so nice - can't wait for Baby's first Christmas next year (will be the first grandchild / great grandchild in the family) - even more reason to go crazy!

conkertree · 27/10/2008 16:16

fantastic website springy - just what i was looking for. will bookmark it so that i can stop wasting time at work, and look at it when i get home.

your christmas idea sounds great - a last cosy christmas as a couple before all hell breaks loose - just a shame there's no mulled wine/champagne this year - there i go sounding like an alcoholic again.

conkertree · 27/10/2008 16:20

theres a christmas shop in callander too babybolat and i went there in august but couldnt bring myself to buy anything, so i think a wee trip to callander might be due now.

littlemy - like your name but yours was one i could always remember before, so will now have to think twice - but i'm sure i'll cope.

i'm another one who loves the wrapping up and then taking the presents round to everyone. ds's first christmas was last year and he didnt really know much that was going on, but we dressed him in a santa suit and he was very very cute. This year i think he'll love all the lights and he likes unwrapping things.

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 16:37

We have been growing our Christmas tree in the garden since last year and I can't wait to dig it out!!! (DH thinks I am more excited about Xmas than the baby but it is only because it comes first!!!!) and also 21.5 weeks seems like such a long time until due date so I have to break it down in to smaller more manageable time sections!!!

Does anyone else feel like they have been pregnant FOREVER?!!!

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 16:41

Conkertree - santa suit sounds so adorable! I feel very sorry for my child - they are going to look back at pictures and hate me because I am going to dress them up in all sorts!!!!

SpringySunshine · 27/10/2008 16:57

WhatFreshHell - I love your new name! So apt, too

BabyBolat - you grow your own Christmas tree? That's amazing I wish we had a garden! I know exactly what you mean about feeling like it's been going on for forever. You just reminded me of the bit in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock where he says "I have measured out my life with coffee spoons"; that's the only way I can keep sane at the moment! I've never really even acknowledged Halloween before, but I'm planning on making a big deal of it (carving a pumpkin, using the flesh to make soup & pumpkin cake, Halloween cookies & so on) just as a marker of time. Besides, I think DP is beginning to feel a bit neglected as I've hardly been a whirlwind in the kitchen recently with the nausea & exhaustion, so I think the smell of freshly baked goodies should revive his faith a little

conkertree - I went into Mothercare last week after my scan to get properly involved with the idea of a little person filling the itsy-bitsy clothes in there without the paranoia that the pregnancy was all a horrible misunderstanding & saw lots of beautiful Christmas outfits in stock already. It made me so impatient for the baby! I was standing there whining at DP saying "Please make it hurry up & get big so we can have it for Christmas "

Also, I'm gutted about the mulled wine, too. There's always a beautiful German Christmas market in Birmingham (my original city) & they have a whole section for German beers & mulled wines, with roasted chestnuts & German gingerbread, etc. It's not going to be quite the same experience without the alcohol, but I'm determined to enjoy it anyway. The entire thing is amazing - lots of really unusual gifts & crafts there, with a Merry-go-round & things. Ohhhh, I love Christmas. DP will be home in half an hour & have to fend off my suggestions of watching various Christmassy DVDs or listening to Christmas music all night

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 17:07

Ah now I am thinking about watching miracle on 34th street with gingerbread men and mince pies in the dark with just my twinkly fairy lights on! I am so very very excited!!!

BabyBolat · 27/10/2008 17:08

But obviously not nearly as excited as I am about the scan next week or the actual birth! ahmmmm!

SpringySunshine · 27/10/2008 17:12

I think I'm even more excited this year than ever. I keep thinking about how lovely & big my bump will be getting by Christmas without being too big & how I'll be feeling the baby moving around & knowing that it's not going to be long until it's with us. I'm due the day before Easter Sunday, so I'll be racing against the next big Christian holiday after Christmas

SpringySunshine · 27/10/2008 17:13

Of course not, BabyBolat In fairness, I think I'd go mad with impatience if I only thought about baby-related milestones. I need the distraction & Christmas is perfect for that. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.
