Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bicnod · 20/09/2008 10:55

Just had a conversation with one of my best friends, one of the very few people I've told about this pregnancy, and she really upset me... she keeps going on about 'if it's not meant to be there's a reason for it' and then telling me stories about people she knows who have lost their babies at 12 weeks or even 20 weeks. Is it just me or is that incredibly insensitive? I came off the phone feeling really down and worried

Sorry - just had to vent. I wonder how she's actually feeling about me being pg as I know she's thinking about trying next year and she usually likes to do everything first!! We've been friends since we were 11 and she's usually lovely though so can't help but feel rubbish about our conversation earlier.

3 weeks and 3 days until the scan... I'm counting down the hours...

mathsmummy27 · 20/09/2008 19:43

Bicnod that sounds very insensitive. I would have hung up, but I'm like that!

Sorry guys no job news yet, a little while til interview but I'm practising like crazy..

SalBySea · 20/09/2008 21:13

Bicnod - I had the same thing - really got me down and we ended up having a row about it.

Turns out that she was carrying over issues from another friend to me and her intentions were good, just misguided

tell her how you feel before it winds you up into knots and you end up falling out over it

salstars · 21/09/2008 07:24

Thanks pinkdolly, as I typed those words yesterday morning I wondered if I was jinxing myself and, hey presto, I started bleeding really heavily. I decided to go shopping anyway but it was a very strange sensation to feel the floodgates open (again) while shopping for socks in M&S (sorry if TMI).

Anyone else having crisis food moments? On Friday was catching the train home with DP and had bought a salad from M&S to keep me going on the train. Suddenly the train pulled in and I realised that I had forgotten to pick up a fork from the shop to eat it with. I burst into tears and felt an overwhelming feeling of despair that I wouldn't be able to eat. DP was great and ran back up to get me a fork, I ate my salad and felt normal again, crisis over.

It's very traumatic being pg!

Bicnod · 21/09/2008 09:54

Thanks mathsmummy and SalBySea - I think I'm going to avoid chatting to her until after the 12 week scan, but if we end up talking before that and she carries on with the negativity I will definitely say something.

Feeling only faintly nauseous today - sickness seems to be slowly disappearing... I'm 10 weeks today so hoping that's normal.

My guts are seriously dodgy at the moment, resulting in VERY bloated stomach. At times it really looks like the start of a baby bump... then disappears after an extended visit to the toilet!! (sorry for TMI ) Anyone else experiencing similar issues?!

SalBySea · 21/09/2008 19:51

Bicnod - my tummy is so massive and bloated too, think my guts are on a work-to-rule

pinkdolly · 22/09/2008 08:42

oh, salstars, sorry, I hope it's not been too harsh for you.

Bicnod- That is soo insensitive of your friend. These first months are hard enough without a "friend" saying things like that to you.

Well, I thought my nausea had been getting better the last few days, but have just woke up and thrown up. Really just stomach acid as hadn't eaten any brekkie yet. Not nice. But will be 12 weeks on wed so hopefully the end is in sight.

We outed all to the church yesterday and it all went well. Got a round of applause for my trouble, which was nice.

One lady came up to me afterwards and said her daughter who is 10 had asked her the day before if I was pg. To which her mum replied "yes I think so but dont ask her".

So I asked this girl if she thought I was getting fat? TO which her honest answer was yes.

Anyway i'm glad i've done it, it's a weight off my mind.

Hope you all have a good day.

Pink

hopeful1 · 22/09/2008 09:15

Hey everyone,

I had my booking in appt on saturday and apparently i am a low risk pregnanct which is good to know. Got my scan a week on weds and then i can relax!!

Bicnod - sounds a little like jealousy to me!!

LuLuBai · 22/09/2008 09:19

Hello all - hope nausea subsided enough for people to enjoy the sunny weekend.

Bicnod - your friend was extremely insensitive but don't hold it against her. Just avoid her for a bit until (at least until after the first scan) She may have genuinely been trying to be helpful .

It never ceases to amaze me what people tell you when you are pregnant. Early on it's "oh did you hear about so-and-so who had a still birth at 5 months". As you get into the final few weeks the birth horror stories start coming in thick and fast "cesaerian with no anaesthetic", "mother and baby both on life support" Blah blah blah. I often wanted to slap thoughtless people when I was pregnant with DD but instead adopted the fingers-in-ears 'lalalaaa' approach.

As one midwife pointed out to me - the vast majority of people have happy, healthy pregnancies and go on to give birth to happy, healthy babies. But that doesn't make for an interesting anecdote, so it's the horror stories which travel and travel.

DungunGirl · 22/09/2008 10:40

bicnod

I am experiencing the exact same thing! Thank god someone else is having the same as me!

Yeah..bad nausea/bloating/wind/indigestion until week 10. Things have relaxed a little but not totally!

Just seem to be a barrel of wind most of the time..when at its worst I look 5 months preggers!!!

I did read somewhere that by week 11, the lower bowel has been pushed to one side by the growing uterus...so maybe that explains everything going a bit haywire!

mrsfossil · 22/09/2008 14:12

Hello all
Having the same problems with my guts but seems to be settling down. I've been told that theses hormones relax uterus to stop it contracting like it would when you have af, but this also relaxes your gut muscles and the ones at top of your stomach so thats why you feel sluggish and get reflux. This calms down when hormones calm down apparantly. I now look less pregnant than i did last week and my eating is better don't feels so ill when i look at some foods.

I just over 11 weeks now so i'm hoping that as i go into next trimester in a week or so that i will bloom! (not holding my breath though)

Have been sent appointment for 12 week scan for next tues so dead excited as i didn't think i would get another until 20 weeks as i had 1 at 7.

And i still grin to myself every morning when i wake up and think yippee i'm up the duff !!!!!!

pinkdolly · 22/09/2008 14:19

Gawain- I'm so glad i'm not the only one on this thread on my 4th dc. Was starting to feel a bit lonely.

I suppose I ought to be a bit more concerned about money and space. We are in a lovely big house at the moment. But it's tied to dh being in the navy. Dh is coming out of the navy in April/May next year and so we will need to find somewhere else to live. His new wages wont be as much as he gets now so we will have to find somewhere smaller.

But I cant help being more concerned about how I will cope with 4. I think because I home-school my oldest 2 it is that which worries me. How a new baby will impact on our schooling routine. Not that we've really had one since I found out I was pg. I've been so sick we just have to fit schooling around my least nauseating times.

Bubbaluv · 22/09/2008 16:06

Hi All,
Just added my details. Am due with DC2 on the 11th of April, but will probably have CS a couple of weeks earlier.
Off for nuchal scan on Wednesday, so fingers crossed!

LittleMyDancing · 22/09/2008 16:34

Hello ladies,

Hope we're all well today? The bloating and the wind all sounds very familiar, as do food crises. Am still very fussy about what I eat, with DS I don't remember really enjoying food at any point in the pregnancy unfortunately!

Got my OSCAR scan tomorrow, am totally bricking it as the nuchal fold was our first inkling of problems last time. Now the hospital have rung to say that their blood test machine has broken down, so the consultant will have to send all the blood to BUPA up the road, and will call us in the evening with the results.

Poor consultant is going to have a busy evening.

Bicnod your friend sounds very insensitive, but maybe in a weird way she's trying to protect you, in a sort of 'don't count your chickens' kind of way? Sounds like you need to have a word though.

salstars - hope you're ok and the whole process isn't too traumatic. it sounds like a really tough thing to go through.

Bubbaluv - welcome!

wishing everyone sickness free days and peaceful nights.

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 22/09/2008 20:19

Aargh - I've been feeling distressingly normal for 3 whole days now. No bloating, wind, constipation, queasiness, food-fads, tiredness, spots or anything. OK my jeans are rather tight, but that's no consolation. Roll on the scan on Wednesday so I can stop stressing out about feeling normal!

Bicnod · 22/09/2008 20:58

Thanks everyone for reassurance about my friend's comments... I think she was probably trying to protect me in a clumsy kind of way, but will continue to avoid her until after the 12 week scan.

LuLuBai - I know exactly how you're feeling... whenever the nausea lifts I feel terrified - and it has been tailing off over the past week and is now pretty non-existent. cue big panic. I've still got 3 weeks left until my scan - I'm 10+1 and desperate to know for sure that the baby is real and ok.

I've got my booking in appointment with the midwife next tuesday, I really want her to listen for the heartbeat - do you think that will be possible? Has anyone else had this at their booking in appointment?

LittleMyDancing · 22/09/2008 21:01

They won't be able to hear a heartbeat at this stage with their hand held Doppler machines, so I doubt the midwife will do it, I'm afraid.

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 22/09/2008 21:46

Hi Bicnod - you can always ask. But as LittleMy says, they may not do it. As far as I know it is usually difficult to hear anything with a hand held doppler until around week 15. But you never know.

It will be fantastic to get into the next trimester won't it. I really don't enjoy the first.

I saw two girls I know today who are both due in January. They are both over 24 weeks (ie - viable) and starting to get proper little bumps now. Was quite jealous .

Right, got to log off and mop the kitchen floor and scrub the bathroom. The house is a tip and as I am not feeling yucky I had better get on with it.

hopeful1 · 23/09/2008 09:06

LuLuBai - I had my booking in appt on saturday at 11+1 and I asked midwife to listen to heartbeat with doppler. She saidshe briefly heard heartbeat but it kept moving. I went to the GP at 9 weeks with spotting and she had it clearly then. But like the others say it is very hard to find and doesn't mean anything if they cant hear it but its worth an ask!! Enjoy your cleaning!!

DungunGirl · 23/09/2008 09:15

What is up with me????

My tummy is still playing up but this morning I am STARVING!

I bought a roast chicken and salad sandwich from M&S for lunch but just devoured it all! And it is 9.15am!!!!

OH no......going to be sick and fat!!!!

LuLuBai · 23/09/2008 09:51

I've had that before DungunGirl. Felt absolutely vile but ravenous at the same time and had to eat random things at random times. (Although yesterday's Frys Turkish Delight was sheer gluttony as I wasn't feeling ill at all )

conkertree · 23/09/2008 11:18

yup me too dungun - had eaten my two lunch rolls and an apple by 10.30, and so was stuck for lunch, but was phoning dh telling him how sick i felt which seemed wrong.

today i feel awful - think i have a fluey type thing - shivery etc and i have lots of crampy pains too - hoping nothing is wrong but i do think its probably just something i have picked up.

purlease · 23/09/2008 11:22

Hi ladies,

Can I join you? Just had 12 week scan - due on the 3rd April.

Have DD who was 3 in June.

Had a miscarriage in April so been keeping very low key this time as anxious about things being okay .

DungunGirl, I think we were together an November thread - delighted to see you again

LuLuBai · 23/09/2008 11:51

Welcome purlease. I had a mc at the beginning of July (and obviously got pg again immediately!). Think there are a few of us. Great that the scan went well. Congrats.

And conkertree, I had colds and sniffles and bugs the whole time I was pg with DD. I remember reading that it's normal. Something to do with your immune system lowering to discourage your body from rejecting the baby as a foreign entity.
