Hello all
Salstars sorry to hear what you are going through but glad you saw a healthy baby.

I've had a bit of constipation and i've read (in one of the 100 pregnancy mags i've bought)that hormones relax the uterus so it doesn't contract and have af but this also relaxs muscles in your gut causing constipation. This can also relax the spincter muscle at the top of your stomach which may cause acid reflux. Great fun

I also feel big. I recently bought a pair of maternity jeans which i found fitted snuggly over my podgy tummy. When fetching ds from school saw another mum who is at least 20 weeks and i looked the same size as her i'm almost 11 weeks. Admittadley she is usually a size 10-12 and i'm a 16 but since the weekend my belly is really sticking out.

Bicnod · 17/09/2008 19:30

Hey all

LuLuBai - I phoned Kingston again today and they've said I can switch my antenatal care there after my first scan/booking in appointment at St Mary's. Pheweeeeeeee!

I reckon lots of water is the way forward with constipation - oh, and I troughed an entire punnet of grapes the other day and that DEFINITELY helped

One other thing... what do you all think about NCT classes - is it to early to be booking? I'm 9+3 and don't want to tempt fate but have heard they fill up really quickly...

x

LittleMyDancing · 17/09/2008 22:47

Hi all,

how are we all feeling? I have some good news, which is that the worst of the nausea and tiredness seems to be receding (am 12+2 today).

also I got offered the job I went for last week, but we are currently negotiating about hours, they're not mad keen on me working four days a week, so I don't know yet if it's going to work out.

OSCAR scan a week today, gulp.

Claireykitten · 18/09/2008 05:03

Hi guys

As you may be gathering by now although I lurk on here reading posts every day I am obviously going to be a sporadic poster I hope that is still ok!

Well I had my booking in appointment on Monday and until I get my dating scan she is obviously going by my LMP which makes me 12+1 today (but I still think that is probably about 2 weeks out!) Unfortunately my BMI has gone up even more so based on that and the fact that I tore badly (3rd degree) with DS she said I will have to have a much more consultant led delivery and when I asked her how that would affect my birthing choices although she didnt actually say so she pretty much implied that I wont be allowed to have a water birth this time and will probably have to have an elective episiotomey (sp?)I am really not impressed and am now getting quite worried and worked up about it as I had an absolutely perfect water birth with DS and want the same experience this time. Fair enough everything sort of went t"*ts up afterwards but surely it is my choice to risk tearing again and I dont see why tearing means you cant have a water birth.

Sorry for whinging but its been preying on my mind for two days now and I needed to vent!

Hope every one else is feeling better and not as sicky etc

Claire

Claireykitten · 18/09/2008 05:13

Oh yes and on top of all that she has also told me that my chosen hospital has a back log of scans so I could be waiting quite a while for my scan!!! I had to wait until 16 weeks last time I was really hoping for an earlier one this time so I could spread out the excitement of seeing Sploosh. Hey Ho maybe something will go my way eventually!!!

Claire

Gemzooks · 18/09/2008 05:29

hi all,

Claire, I would just push for what you want, I agree with you, why should they dictate based on a tear? It's well known that tearing is the worst first time round.. Hope you get a scan date soon.

well done on the job Little My! Could you maybe offer to do 4 days one week 5 the next to begin with, or 4 slightly longer days? I'm in Holland, seems everyone here works 4 days or even less... With being pregnant it would be quite nice to do 4 days so perhaps you should stick to your guns..also, this is a good opportunity to see how flexible they are: if they're not willing to be flexible about this, they might not be very good about maternity stuff. anyway hope it goes the way you want.

salbysea, hope you are feeling OK.

Well I've lost around 2 kilos so trying to eat more, have been eating OK but just not my usual massive amounts. Have ridiculously large bump, the whole office knows but I want to tell my boss in person and she's away till 1 Oct so it's a bit of a ridiculous situation. anyway, late for work so must be off..

LuLuBai · 18/09/2008 08:41

Hi Bicnod - that is good news. Only one trip across the park to visit the deer then.

As for NCT: I did it with DD and thought it was well worth it. Not so much for what we were taught - the information we were given was very similar to the NHS antenatal classes. The real benefits were:

  1. Small class size. There were 26 mothers (and a handful of fathers) at my NHS classes and 6 couples at my NCT classes, so much more opportunity for individual questions.
  1. DH' attention span. Having forked out £170 my DH was more motivated to take part and pay attention.
  1. Making local friends. This was really the big one. The catchment area for my hospital (DD was born at Chelsea & Westminster) was huge and only one of the mothers in my NHS class lived anywhere near me. The NCT group was allocated by postcode and we all lived within walking distance of each other which was invaluable - especially in those early days of sleep deprivation. We were quite a random bunch and I didn't expect us to get on as well as we do. But we met up all the time in those early days to compare notes and formed a very strong bond. A year and a half later we still meet at least once a week (and I have since moved 10 miles away).
LuLuBai · 18/09/2008 08:44

Oh and Claireykitten - there is a lot of research on water births suggesting that it actually reduces tearing. DD was 9lb 1oz and I only got the tiniest tear (they didn't actually think there was any tearing at first) and a friend of mine had an 11lb baby in water without tearing at all!!! (she is very slim, narrow hipped etc so this really does seem miraculous!)

Stick to your guns!

hopeful1 · 18/09/2008 09:20

HI all,

I am 10+6 today, still feeling very tired but not too sick!!

I have my scan booked for 1st Oct and antenatal booking in appt on saturday. Will they listen to the heartbeat with a doppler if I ask them to????

Horsygirl - with you on the weight issue, I have put on 8 pounds in weight already!! Also the best thing for constiptation is a bowl of shreddies every morning, I had to stop eating them as too regular!!

Conkertree - thank you for your email about sex after giving birth, its so refreshing for someone to be honest about these things!!

Hope you all start to feel better soon x

conkertree · 18/09/2008 12:50

morning folks - well afternoon now i suppose.

i dont remember them listening with a doppler until a bit later, but i dont know if thats cause they cant hear yet or just they choose not to - always worth asking i suppose.

congrats on the job littlemy. sorry if this has been answered before but what type of job is it?

agree with lulubai about nct - not that i actually did them but the downsides of the nhs class was exactly what she describes as the benefits of nct - although I suppose I could have made more of an effort to keep in touch with some of the nhs lot, but we had to go to a group that was for people in a different area cause i couldnt take time off work to go to our area's one.

LuLuBai · 18/09/2008 13:14

I don't remember them doing a doppler at that stage either, but I guess there is no harm in asking.

The only reason I can think of that they wouldn't is that I believe it can be quite hard to hear a heartbeat (easier to see than hear) in the first trimester. They might be concerned that you will get stressed if it isn't audible.

But you may as well ask.

Cosmogirl · 18/09/2008 13:29

Hi all,

Haven't posted in a while as have been feeling so sick and rubbish. Went back to work this week and it has been really tough. I have managed 9-4 but by 4 I dash home and the minute I get through the door I am sick . Today I have only made it until 1pm - again got through door and head down loo. Really fed up now, I thought at 12+2 things would be getting better not worse. I mainly seem to throw up bile and stomach acid too which is pretty unpleasant.

Well done to those who are gaining some weight - I have lost a stone and nothing seems to be going back on although my tummy area is podgy.

Sal - so sorry to hear about your sad news. Hope you are coping ok.

Lix - could you let us know how you get on with the anti-sickness meds. I might go and see the GP next week - I am starting to get seriously depressed about the sickness and it is affecting the whole of my life. Plus I can't stomach hot meals and haven't had dinner in 6 weeks which surely can't be good.

Sorry for depressing message everyone - but this sickness thing is just the pits.

LuLuBai · 18/09/2008 13:33

Oh Cosmogirl that sounds grim. You poor thing. It must start to wear off soon though. Probably worth going to see the doc though.

V1KK1M · 18/09/2008 13:45

Hi,

I had sickness meds with my DD and they worked miricals. I started being sick at 16 weeks and they soon put a stop to it! I am finding Starbursts stop me feeling sick but are also making my exisiting tubby tummy a little rounder

Also re: doppler - they do not normally do it at the first visit but when I saw the doctor last week she said that if I was really worried I could go back when I was 10+ weeks and she would try and have a listen - the problem is that sometimes they can't find it (as it is so small) and then you panic even more!

Hope this helps!

LittleMyDancing · 18/09/2008 14:02

Thanks conkertree and Gemzooks - conkertree it's a Corporate Publishing Manager job with a big government agency (won't say which one) so really interesting.

Fingers crossed.

Sorry to hear of all of you really suffering with the sickness. This probably doesn't help, but it does pass, and you'll feel so much better when it does, it's amazing. I've started tidying up the house, which had become a complete pit, and DP is amazed at how different I am since the tiredness and sickness wore off.

I still get queasy around 5-6pm, seems to be a low blood sugar time for me, but I find a can of Coke fixes that temporarily, just until dinner time.

Sounds like a great job LittleMy. Congrats.

I've just spent the last hour (while DD has been napping - phew) browsing the internet for clothes. Absolutely freezing at home (we have no central heating until building work complete). And am very uninspired by the maternity clothes I have looked at. These days I much prefer shopping for DD. Any ideas? LuLuBai needs knitwear. Fast.

Jumbs · 18/09/2008 14:23

Hello,

Can I have another moan? I have to go to 12 wk scan on my own as it is at noon so means OH would have to take the whole day off which he can't

Is anyone else going alone? I'm a bit scared, and worried what everyone will think, although I realise this is stupid. It also means I will have to go by public transport as OH will have the car (train followed by bus/taxi). It just better not be bad news otherwise I don't know how I'll cope all on my own. No family nearby and all my friends will be at work/looking after their children, plus of course none of them know!

On a non moaning note, have you all started telling everyone? I've only told my parents so far. I'll be 12 wks tomorrow and scan is on Tuesday but now I could start telling I either don't feel like it or don't know how to broach it!

LittleMyDancing · 18/09/2008 14:23

Have you tried La REdoute? They have some quite nice maternity wear. Also TopShop?

OP posts:
conkertree · 18/09/2008 15:19

that sounds very grand and impressive littlemydancing. well done.

jumbs - thats a shame about your dh - but from the point of view of not wanting people to think its odd - there were lots of people waiting on their own when i went last time - and i assumed it meant their dh/p couldnt make it rather than didnt want to etc. the chances of it being bad news are slim too, but i know its nice to share the good news with dh too. nothing i can suggest sorry - just giving sympathy really. is he just not able to take a days holiday? you could go for a nice lunch or something afterwards as a treat?

we've told my sister, brother (and families) and my parents but noone on dhs side yet as her parents are off round the world for 8 weeks and would rather tell them in person. i am going to wait till after the scan, and then quite often you can just show people the picture and its a nice way to tell them.

conkertree · 18/09/2008 15:20

meant his parents (not her)

hopeful1 · 18/09/2008 15:34

Hi jumbs,

Sorry about having to go to scan by yourself, I understand its a scary, emotional and exciting time. Please dont worry what other people think. Mothers are allowed time off for maternity visits I wonder why this doesn't extend to paternity rights!! I am sure everything will be fine!!

Cosmogirl - Poor you...I think you should go to the doctor as it sounds so unpleasant for you. Sounds like your work is being really undertanding though which is good

Gemzooks · 18/09/2008 17:22

hopeful, the mw heard heartbeat on the doppler at 9 weeks and again at 11, but she did warn me beforehand that it might not be picked up. I did really find it reassuring..

lulubai, I'm also having probs with maternity clothes. not much choice here in Holland. Prenatal, H and M, Etam and C and A are the only shops I"ve found with maternity stuff, and my God is it grim, bold patterned granny wear. I might take the risk and order topshop online. Why do designers in chain stores think pregnant = frumpy 1960s Mrs Overall? have to act soon as am bulging over the top of everything..

lixanismapolium · 18/09/2008 18:42

Hi All

Cosmogirl - my pills are working really well. It's only the 2nd day and I have been taking 2 per day instead of the 3 that I am allowed and feel loads better.

I do have a slight headache which may be a side effect, but I can function with a headache a lot better than I could with the nausea.

whatawally · 18/09/2008 19:18

Hi everyone, Sorry to hear so many of you are stilll feeling so rotten. I have been feeling much better today, tho yesterday was a bit hard.

Salsters- Sorry to hear about your sad news, How are you coping?

Littlemy- congrats on the job offer- hope the negotiations go the way u'd like.

Well I finally found out the date of my 12 week scan- it's 29th sep. Which will make me 12 + 5 according to my lmp. I'm excited but nervous at the same time due to my missed m/c last time.

Dh and I were gonna wait till after the scan before we told people, but for various reasons have decided to reveal all now.

Which means I can stop posting under this name and go back to my real mn name.

So if you bear with me a minute I will update the list.
