For those of you still awaiting Maternity Allowance I finally got through on 08456 088 769.
There is a backlog of 4 weeks from date of application and once a decision has been made 1st payment will be received 5 working days thereafter.
However, there appear to be alot of Mumsnetters who have been waiting 3 months already.
Gulp!

lollipopmother · 27/08/2008 18:25

Notsoslimnow - I agree with Starlight, your placenta absolutely can't have moved down since your last scan, you are worrying yourself over something that isn't possible! Could it maybe be BH? I haven't had a single BH so I don't know what it feels like, but if they were low down .... ??

As for the bottles - I wouldn't think the midwife that is with you at the birth would leave without showing you how to make one up, especially if you ask her how to do it! I expect she could show your DP whilst you're actually in labour seeing as she's going to be looking for things to do at the start.

kiskidee · 27/08/2008 18:31

notslim it is DoH guidelines that your midwife should show you how to make up a bottle in your own kitchen after your baby arrives. There are reasons why it must be a one on one demonstration and in your own kitchen and why bottle feeding demonstrations or explanations are not done ante-natally. It is not because of any breast feeding bias as a lot of people interpret it to be. Speak to your midwife now about it. If she is hesitant to do so, (makes excuses about why she cannot do so) then it is a clue that she does not have a good grounding in infant feeding issues, which sadly is not uncommon among health care professionals.

Just catching up again.

notsoslimnow · 27/08/2008 18:36

thanks for the comments guys.the midwife who will attend at my homebirth has made it very clear to me that she is very pro bf and has simply handed me a government advice leaflet on formula feeding to read. sometimes you feel a bit like if your unable to bf your left to chance it with the formula route.i mean dont get me wrong my mw is simply lovely, just hates formula feeding.maybe im just being a bit daft as im getting nervous about the next few weeks and sort of looking for problems.

carrieon · 27/08/2008 18:38

All that talk of mexican food is making my jacket potato for dinner look less and less appealing! Next week my dh's regime of a hot curry a day will start, can't wait!
I can't say I've had vibrating, but I've certainly had such odd movements from the baby that I've worried its having a seizure/has adhd. Sometimes it'll just do these huge jumps and my whole bump will shudder. I guess its all normal - talking to people on here certainly makes me realise how normal these twitches and movements are.
Hope you all have a lovely evening

kiskidee · 27/08/2008 18:44

slim then she is wrong wrong wrong. Her beliefs about breastfeeding (though no doubt based in knowledge) is therefore impacting on the support and service which she is paid to supply to you.

You have every right to have a word with her line manager. If she is a community midwife, there is a manager of CMW. If she is with a hospital, the Supervisor of Midwives and/or the hospital's Infant Feeding Specialist if that post exists in the hospital.

mamamufin · 27/08/2008 18:46

Perfectly normal twitches and pops . Ive had a curry tonight so fingers crossed. carrieon I hope i am next to you in hospital, all that haribo and dairy milk sounds good .
Night all

mustsleep · 27/08/2008 18:47

treadmillmum they have had my ma application for 4 weeks (now 5) when i called and told me that there was a backlog of 8 weeks!! !!!!!!

kiskidee · 27/08/2008 18:48

ahem, this is a little family business of a dear aunt of mine.

Let's put it this way, this stuff is so good, she exports it in 100 gallon drums to be bottled and sold in of all places, Mexico.

Your family should be able to find it in the supermarkets in Texas, eandz You will not be disappointed.

ninja · 27/08/2008 19:13

Notsoslimnow could the vibrations be because the head is down and it's the fingers wriggling down there? I have kind of tickling movements there and I think that what they are.

notsoslimnow · 27/08/2008 19:36

hi NINJA, that could be it i suppose.now i know the placenta doesnt move it must be something like that.i think pregnancy just consists of the most odd movements and feelings! i mean when you think about it its miraculous isnt it...a little person in there who could already be very capable of surviving all on his own without me!!! makes me feel a bit wierd when i think about it! i dont know if there are many other first timers on this thread but i just keep worrying about every single little thing that pops into my head! i MUST stop it and relax, this is not good for my homebirth! i dont know if im more worried about the birth or suddenly having this little person here who i made!!!??(and dh ofcourse) i also cant help thinking though(without sounding like a patroninsing so and so) how do these 16/17 year old girls cope with pregnancy/birth and looking after a baby!!! im 26 and feel bemused and lost with it all at the best of times!!!

carrieon · 27/08/2008 19:36

Oooh mama that would be great to be hospital buddies! Given your likelihood of going overdue, and my history of being on time, its entirely possible! I'll get dh to save some haribo just in case but you'll have to fight me for the chocolate!!

ipanemagirl · 27/08/2008 20:02

Hello September expectants! Am hopelessly out of date with this thread, sorry for just dropping in like I do.

But I'm finally facing my birthplan (due sept 14) and am wondering about the vitamin K thing, most people let their babies have it don't they? Are the oral drops better than the injection? I'm sure there are arguments every way, just wondered if the majority go for the vit k option!

met my doula for the second time today and I really like her, pleased that I've found someone I'm comfortable with. Just trying to be calm and think positive about the labour.....

plusonemore · 27/08/2008 20:04

notsoslim bless you you are not alone in your worries and hormones are brilliant at making everything seem like a huge crisis! some good advice from starlight i think. With ds I wanted to bf but a combination of things (pethadine making him sleepy, me having big boobs!) meant that he kept losing weight (7lb 9 at birth, went down to bout 6lb 5)so i gave up after 3 weeks. I knew it was the right thing to do for him and I know I could have tried to do both and I did for a bit but it took me months to lose the guuilt because everything is so pro bf. Prob the worst time was when about 3 months later (i still had milk!!!) ds was turning his head towards my breast and I thought 'why not i'll give it a go' and just as i was undoing my brakiller looks off everyone! dh got home from work, I quickly did everything up and felt really guilty and really stupid!!! Wierd. Also around that time i went with a couple of bfeeding friends to baby show, it was packed, they all needed feeding, the general chairs were all took but there were spaces in the bf tent with comfy chairs. So i asked if I could go in with my mates to bottle feed ds while they bf and they let me but it was horrible, felt like i was getting killer looks off everyone!

This time... I am going to try to bf but not beat myself up about it and happily combine with formula and ignore the MW and HV!! So long as baby and I are happy it really doesnt seem to matter where the food comes from!!!!

barnpot · 27/08/2008 20:04

After al the palava with the scan this morning and worrying, I spent the afternoon miandering around the center of Leeds, and do you know I think the lil monkey has turned head down on his own

BTW If anyone lives near castleford (W.Yorks) at Freeport (junction 32) there is a cadbury's outlet shop, 10 bars of choccy for £1.30 its a small shop but quite reasonable and they tell me that the whisper bars are making a come back on october. mmmmm yum

I went to the not very exciting anaesthetic clinic this afternoon to go through the cs plan. Nothing that amazing really as it will be my second, just have to get to the hospital by 8 am, and should be done by lunchtime at the very latest. DP is turning into a gibbering wreck, we both want it over and done with and to have a healthy baby and a healthy me.

Hi friends!. What a day.

The nervs got to me and I have had a massive headache for half of the day. I was so looking forward to today and suddenly ...... I don't mind waiting. I know how important it is to have emergency surgery when your baby is in distress. I was there once. And of course the others, like me have to wait. I am just worried that tomorrow I will have to wait till the afternoon or longer and my dh will have to go to pick up ds from nursery at 18:00, therefore missing the birth.

I am feeling very nauseous and hot, not period pains though. I just feel funny . I hope I don't have to rush to the hospital tonight, because I will have to go alone, there is no way I will wake up ds, he won't be allowed inside the hospital.

Anyway, I am going to bed soon.
Thanks for thinking of me.

meglet · 27/08/2008 21:02

Will be thinking of you Poxtola. I really hope they get your cs done first thing and everything goes to plan. Sleep well. x
