lolli cs tomorrow, got to be at the hospital by 8!!!

imoscarsmum · 03/09/2008 14:53

Thanks for the advice starlight - it's easing up a bit today, not so painful. I don't mind if it's normal - easier to cope with!

I am so in awe of hopefully being v domesticated and baking. I am having totally slob day - gonna spend this afternoon on sofa with a film. Wish I had more enerygy! Maybe I'll bake tomorrow....or not!

Like the idea of spending first few days in bed with LO 'learning' about each other and recovering. Good way to put my mum off visiting too.

lollipopmother · 03/09/2008 14:57

Meglet - Oh bum, I was planning on racing you seeing as we both have the same EDD, but you're totally cheating in having a CS! Good luck with it all, are you all set?

cranmorefifi · 03/09/2008 15:03

loved the birth stories. ouch for the stitches etc - I had quite a lot of damage last time too but am hoping and praying for an easier time this time around...

finally realised why I hate cleaning - because no longer is everything looking sparkling than you have to start again. SO annoying. Am resigned now to the fact that this one is not coming out before the 18th Sept and am looking forward to enjoying some maternity leave before everything changes. Have booked a lovely romantic dinner for our wedding anniversary next wednesday, dd starts school on thursday and we have an architect coming round to discuss extensions. So he CAN'T arrive before then.

eandz you are a braver woman than me. You will sail through this childbirth thing if you are even contemplating having your bits waxed at this stage. Never mind a Hollywood!!! I have gone down the electric shaver/ jungle route as I just can't stand the pain and to be fair think I have enough coming my way very soon.

Btw - overloaded on pineapple last week. Also got the tingly mouth thing but most of all just got some v strong braxton hicks which made me think things were kicking off. Have just decided not to bother now...
Good luck to all those with c sections/ births imminent!

foxytocin · 03/09/2008 15:23

Deb
"foxytocin does a newborn HAVE to feed every 3 hours minimum"

no, longer breaks at night, 4-6 hrs are acceptable as long as he has fed frequently during the day. A baby less than roughly 6 wks old ought to feed at least once through the main part of the night, say between 10pm and 7 am.

one of the main benefits of roomsharing, sidecar cots and bedsharing is that the mother will rouse and a mum can respond to these arousals before the baby is desperate and crying. (crying is the last hunger cue) If cues are responded to before this stage, neither party awakens fully and go back to sleep faster, giving more restful sleep.

Look at the kellymom links I posted on the response to DG

here is a great little video of the benefits of bedsharing. As you can see, the plastic hospital bassinets are not as effective for successful establishment of breastfeeding.

there is some interesting study being done in the North East at the moment by the mother infant sleep lab at Durham U in a major hospital studying this issue but using sidecar cots rather than same bed sharing. I think this is a great step forward because we are so much of a culture that views bedsharing as dangerous, full stop.

Ooo, hopefully, pear and ginger muffins... mmmm, yum! . I want to come to your house!

Debs75 · 03/09/2008 15:40

Starting to get BH now, at last, am finding it real hard to sit comfily and keep standing up to stretch as she is pushing my poor ribs out the way. I think its a family thing as both dd and ds were great at kicking my ribs. And weirdly she won't kick if you rest your hand on the bump but if i rest my bowl or cup there, or cat she goes mad, got cereal all over me this morning.
Big congrats on the LO's and hope everything goes well tomorrow Meglet.
I have noticed really hairy down there but figured I can't see it DP doesn't mind so sod it, I'm sure the midwives will have seen worse

foxytocin · 03/09/2008 15:41

I think it is because some people's duvets are so thick an fluffy a teeny newborn can have his breathing (at least partially) obstructed more easily with all that fluffiness around, iyswim. With dd I was naughty and kept my summer tog duvet on the bed and always wore long sleeved pyjamas. DD slept on top of the duvet cuddled in under my arm in that classic breastfeeding shape. and wearing a sleepsuit and swaddled so even me didn't strictly follow guidelines. I think you really need to evaluate your own sleeping area and give and take a little to accomodate your own preferences and the guidelines. By saying no duvets, they won't miss anyone, i suppose.

Debs75 · 03/09/2008 15:53

How long did any of you keep driving and do you know how long before they say you can drive after birth. I'm only driver in family and we have a disabled son who goes to loads of stuff so would like to be behind the wheel,
Starlightmckenzie Blankets are better as you can fold layers back if it gets too hot and you will find that you do it even when asleep. I had dd in bed with me loads and dp said I would move the covers out the way whilst still snoring loud enough to wake the dead, not dd tho as she was almost as loud lol. The only scary momoent we had was when she started off in the middle of us and I woke a few hours later and she was laid on the outside, I had climbed over her in my sleep, she was and still is fine she is 12 now and could sleep through an airraid

Debs75 · 03/09/2008 15:55

Just noticed that we are at 911 posts lets hop that 1000 is a baby arrival, that would be great.
Sorry all feeling a bit dopey and happy.

lollipopmother · 03/09/2008 16:00

Deb - I am still driving and I am 39+6, never thought of stopping. The only slight issue would be if I couldn't fit in, but because the steering wheel in our car can be moved up and down I have not had a problem. Just make sure that you wear the seatbelt as you normally would but to tuck the bottom strap underneath your bump rather than round/over it.

eandz · 03/09/2008 16:45

wow guys, we talk a WHOLE lot . i really love this thread it's filled out faster than the others. soo quick!

lollipopmother · 03/09/2008 16:58

That's because we're all on maternity leave and a load of us are 'symptom' spotting! It's like when you're first pregnant and trying to name all your symptoms, it's exciting! I think I might have bored everyone with my pineapple issues yesterday though - got totally carried away! I was even considering a name change to encorporate pineapple into it, I kid ye not!

eandz · 03/09/2008 17:10

pineapple lollipop?

eh,i'm bad at naming things.

i really want ice cream now, but am refraining.

meglet · 03/09/2008 17:20

I am going to be brave and log off shortly. I'm not sure it's a good idea to spend my last evening on MN , I need sleeps and Sex and the City is on later, er.... and my eyebrows need a tidy.

I am sure when I am back early next week there will be loads of other birth annoucements. Lots of love and happy births to everyone . x

Im now waiting for my hot curry to be delivered and then me abd dh might brave it and try abit of sex see if that encorages anything. Last thing on my mind really but feeling like I will give anything a go

Congrats on the birth announcments

kel78 · 03/09/2008 18:57

has anyone else not started to leak yet, im a little concerned that I have had no colestrum and on both girls I was leaking quite early. I have tried everything squeezing them in teh bath but nothing. Do you think that I might not be able to bfeed this time.
