MunkiMom · 28/08/2008 18:35

eandz i know you want it now and ready made, but if you can get someone to make it for you, i have a gorgeous recipe that i'm happy to donate for the cause! and i say donate because i am a chef/baker by trade and since having ds11 i just make cakes to order for people from home..and its a very popular cake to order....chock full of raisins, loads of shredded carrot, and walnuts (optional). oh lordy!!! i think i'm gonna have to make that one for myself VERY soon!!! ((look what you've started!!))

oh who am i kidding!? any excuse to have cake and i'll take it!

also, hopefully, do you use the fridge cake out of the AK children's cook book??? ooh yummm!! its so good. oh my gawww, i'm gonna have to have a baking day soon!
i'm going coo coo hearing of all the yummy cravings and treats!

MunkiMom · 28/08/2008 18:37

HEHEHEHEHEH!!!!
i just noticed i typed DS11!!!!

i don't even wanna think about the thought of 11 kids!

kiskidee · 28/08/2008 18:46

erm, share the carrot cake recipe, please.

I am off to make chicken soup a la mexicana with my own mexican tortillas. I have had a craving for it lately.

milkbeard · 28/08/2008 18:51

munkimom yes please share recipe sounds sooo yummy. had thought how amazing you were baking with 11 kids!

imoscarsmum · 28/08/2008 19:01

Evening all. Very at those of you making lots of food. i am suffering with alot of aches & pains and find it hard to stand for a long time, so the idea of baking & cooking sounds great but I'd have to keep sitting down. But love the sound of fridge cake.

Having said all of that, i am halfway through making goats cheese & watercress muffins for freezer - feet hurt so came to pc to read MN. DP out with 18 yr old DD for a last 'father daughter' night out before flumpet arrives. Quite good as it means I have TV to myself.

For some strange reason I am obsessed with films - the thought of not being able to watch any for a while is freaking me out.

Can anyone advise if an indian head massage is OK whilst pg. Would love to book one for next week but not sure if it's wise. Ta!

jearund · 28/08/2008 19:10

Just taking Jenpet off this list as she's already had hers! We should be able to take Potxola off tomorrow too.

I think my bump is gong to explode, there is so much pressure in there now. Help! Only 7 days to go and then I will be as light as a feather (ha ha!).

imoscarsmum, I think that if you get a good practioner then head massage should be fine. However I know that most beauty therapists in my area either a) won't do anything on a pregnant woman or b) I wouldn't trust them not to do something daft like trigger early labour. I'd guess that if you live in a big town you should be able to find someone reputable who can treat a pregnant woman, I hope you can - it would be lovely!

Anyone else realised that it's all well and good when our bumps are gone, but then we have saggy stomachs to deal with .

notsoslimnow - im wondering on that too as last time i had an emergency c-section.

DebitheScot · 28/08/2008 19:55

hopefully don't think there's any advantage to the head engaging anymore so I wouldn't be disappointed at it only being 2/5. I was told over a week ago that the head is engaged and am still here and very uncomfortable because of it. I said I was glad it had engaged when the midwife told me but now I've changed my mind.

meglet my bump also feels like it's going to burst, it's sore to touch and I think its because of my muscles/skin/whatever else all being too stretched. My bump is very much all out the front and it stretching what used to be not much skin into a humungous lump.

Had a good afternoon with my friend catching up with the gossip and thankfully ds had a nearly 3hr sleep and woke up happy. I'm still feeling a bit grumpy but hopefully an early night will help.

hopefully · 28/08/2008 19:58

Lollipop, soup was v easy and yummy - basically roast a ton of tomatoes, a pepper and some garlic, mix with some veggie stock and blend most of it (leave some lumps). Serve with toast drizzles in olive oil and ta da! Also you are making me crave mince pies. I normally pretty much live on them from October till new year, sampling ones from every different shop and making some myself.

Mustsleep it's worth just being v strong and stating to MW that you are having a home birth and if they are worried about being short staffed they should lay on some agency staff around your due date. There's info on homebirth threads about things like this, but that is the world's shakiest excuse for denying a homebirth.

Munkimum very envious of your baking career - I would love to do that! Feel free to share amazing carrot cake recipe. I made one once for my best friend's wedding and it was (surprisingly) great (also made chocolate and fruit cakes, she was a bit of a bridezilla!), but I bet yours is better! Someone linked to a fridge cake recipe on the BBC website, but I imagine they are all much the same - find as many calorific/fatty ingredients and shove them all in one place...

Notcitrus I have decided to have injection to get rid of placenta, but mostly because I want to get on with gazing at the baby rather than any well thought out medical reason. There seem to be pros and cons both ways, so I thought since they both had downsides I;d go with the route that at least got everything dealt with more quickly.

DebitheScot · 28/08/2008 20:00

imoscarsmum me and dh are not amused that Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty are both coming back on just as we are about to lose our evenings again. Thank goodness for Sky plus.

Also, was thinking about how I've packed lots of snacks even though I have just realised I never ate a single thing in labour last time. Don't think the thought crossed my mind to eat.
And I've only packed about 3 babygros whereas biglips has 10, maybe I should put some more in.

biglips · 28/08/2008 20:02

Debi - its best to have a few of babygros/bodysuits so youre not short of it whilst at the hosp.

im so sure that my baby got hiccups all the time as my belly is twitching of wheres the baby is. Didnt have this first time round.

cranmorefifi · 28/08/2008 20:15

Please can I join in? Am due with dc2 on 18th September and am now thoroughly fed up. Have been lurking around for a couple of weeks and you've been cheering me up but thought I should say hello!

Just found out that my iron is low which explains why I am so knackered. Keep waking at 3am and not getting back to sleep till 5/6. Am getting nasty kicks on my cervix and my lungs seem to be the sizde of a gnats.

Not sounding very positive am I??? Just looking forward to meeting the boy and being able to lie on my tummy again!

tbh honest munkimom if you could pass on that recipe it would be fantastic. there another mother to be on our thread that bakes, her name is kookiegoddess but i don't know where she's been lately. I might email her to ask her how she's doing.

i would like to do something fun on friday and since i barely have any pregna friends i figured if i got a good recipe i'd try to make it.

does your recipe come with how to make the cream cheese frosting?

Star- About delivering the placenta naturally...what does it happen and feel like?? as just curious

lollipopmother · 28/08/2008 20:47

Hopefully - Did you get your soup recipe out of a book? I think I might try making some!

Notsoslim - On my birthplan I have said that I would like to pass the placenta naturally unless I have had a long labour, in which case I shall take the injection. My thinking was that if I've had a nice easy labour then an extra hour won't do any harm and I won't have any drugs in there that aren't needed. However, if I've just had a 36 hour labour I'm not waiting an hour just to pass the ruddy placenta, so I'll take the drugs thanks very much!

Debi - I've got a long sleeved babysuit and a short sleeved one in both newborn and 0-3 in case I give birth to a monster, a cardigan and a couple of blankets. I thought that if I was in for any length of time my DP would bring more stuff in anyway. I've got about 20 sanitary pads and 8 nappies as well, as I hear that you bleed lots (hopefully not enough for 20 pads but I don't want to get caught out!) and that a baby will go through at least 8 nappies a day (but I know my hospital give you a couple).

I've saw someone mention sleeping with the blanket you're planning to use for the baby as they will be able to smell you on it. It's not like me to believe in that sort of thing, but I've gone with it anyway so I'm now sleeping with a pink blanket every night, my DP thinks I'm bonkers but is too wise to say anything! I figured that whilst I'm passing the placenta/getting stitched up etc he can have some alone time with the baby in the blanket smelling of me!
