First time mums expecting Spring babies

FlirtyThirty · 19/08/2008 11:38

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

Hello girls!

Sorry for being silent, we have moved to a new place this weekend and have no internet at home. So will be short.
In case I won't have any access to the net I'll do my festive greetings in advance.
Wishing all of you a very merry Christmas!!!
Enjoy the last quiet one.

By the way a couple of girls from this site will be meeting on the 03/01 at 11.00 in Marylebone at Pain quotidien so if any of you will be around please join.

Flossie- sorry you had some tough time, but the tests are good - all is good!!!
My DH was born with inverted feet and as his parents were posted in India it wasn't picked up until quite late so he had to wear all sorts of metal shoes when little, but all is fine and he's a lovely man.

Festive greetings and lots of hugs to all!

rosa7 · 23/12/2008 14:16

Hello ladies!

Am very envious to hear of you all off and merrily preparing Christmas things! Sounds divine.

I'm still at work until tomorrow night and then back on Monday! Hmmm... that is the result of a great and long honeymoon taken earlier this year though so I don't mind too much!

I'm finishing work 6 weeks before my EDD and really looking forward to it. I took some advice from a friend who was of the opinion that energy levels and things around that time mean that you feel just like doing anything other than office work.

I have noticeably slowed down in the past 2 weeks (27 weeks now - 3rd trimester - YAY!). Its all a bit of a dramatic shift. I walk about 1 hour a day during my commute and its getting slower and slower and if I forget and pick up the pace, the cramps soon set in to remind me.

Bub is doing well - has anyone else experienced what I would term "flurry" kicks? I did some searches online and apparently its normal but it feels like the baby is moving much faster than you think it would be capable of - a truly weird feeling!!

DH and I want to know the sex now (!!) and of course its too late! Oh the irony, so we're waiting patiently. I booked myself in for a "fetal well-being scan" at 34 weeks on the advice of friends but of course the knees will be up by then and nothing to be seen

Merry Christmas to everyone!!

girlylala0807 · 24/12/2008 12:21

Hi All

Rosa - I have exactly the same movements - I didn't realise there was a name for them.

Do you know what position baby is in? At my 22 week scan was breech, swear blind it moved round in the night on xmas eve as now I can feel kicking much more and lots of fluttery pokes...maybe you are the same??

anyone else missing wine and naughty cheese? I'd kill for a glass of red and something stinky!

littleduck · 28/12/2008 18:49

Hi Springmums

Sorry it's been so long - looking back it's been a month since I posted I think. Had horrid horrid cold for about a week in Dec which absolutely flattened me, was in bed by 8.30 for days. Was better in time for 21 week scan on 17 Dec, didn't get very detailed explanations but sonographer was happy, everything looks fine, baby measuring bang on right size for dates (was a bit worried would be too small as had v small bump but apparently Micro has been lying transverse). Asked not to know sex so another surprise to add to list.

Need to book in for 28 week appt - will be at Roehampton rather than Kingston so doubt I will get to see any of the Kingston girls going in on that day. Am now worrying I have left it too late to book for that week, all got a bit mad before Xmas and just didn't get round to calling. Likewise need to call GP to organise 24 week visit, normally appts can't be booked more than a week in advance so praying same goes for antenatal and I'm not too late for an appt.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, and that you all have a good New Year. We are going to stay with some much loved friends in the country, lots of log fires, dogs and comfy sofas and nice quiet dinner on NY Eve with 7 of us.

Catch up with you all in 2009, am making NY resolution to get on here more often.

Lots love to all

Littleduck

daisyj · 28/12/2008 19:23

Hi everyone

Sorry it's been so long, but I have been checking in to see what everyone's up to. Had super-manic last two weeks at work, right up till lunchtime on Christmas Eve - it was all a bit too much. I'm really going to try not to overdo it after the break, as last weekend I started spotting and ended up having to go to the labour ward to get checked out. They were lovely, and took loads of time and care making sure all was fine. I spotted a tiny bit after that, and intermittently till Christmas Day, but it seems to have stopped now. I think it's my body's way of saying all the stress and rushing around isn't good.

Anyway, so glad that all OK with everyone. Hope you're having a fab Christmas break. Ours has been lovely so far, with very yummy Christmas dinner at SIL's, who's a great cook, and lots of lovely presents, including a hot water bottle with cashmere cover for me to cuddle up with in our somewhat chilly flat (how indulgent is that!) .

littleduck - your New Year's plans sound like bliss - we're staying in just the two of us as we're going to be with friends for the two evenings before - looking forward to some (more!) nice food and a cheeky glass of wine.

Happy New Year, ladies and bumps.

xxx Daisy

rosa7 · 30/12/2008 12:08

hi everyone!

peaches my bub was in breech position too at the 22 week scan - but there is still so much room in there they can move around lots - i read somewhere the other day which week they take up their final position and it was definitely in the 30's...maybe 34 weeks? hmmm... the "flurry" thing is just my term for it - but i'm so glad you can identify! i've stopped worrying about them and just find them amusing now - bub gets so excited sometimes and every night when I get up in the middle of the night (as I'm sure we all do!!) bub has hiccups when I get back into bed! its very hard to sleep with all that going on but I don't seem to mind...hmm... I wonder what my threshhold of sleep deprivation is before I start to seriously mind! Guess we'll find out soon enough!

daisyj i'm sorry to hear of your experiences over christmas - i really hope things have settled down now for you as I can only imagine how such a thing would make me feel too. A friend at work is due in april and has had bleeding throughout the whole pregnancy so far (they think its due to the position of the placenta being low) but both she and her baby have been, are are, absolutely fine.

In other news I am starting to think about "baby buying"! setting up my wish list on mothercare's site and scouring around for bargains...damn its fun!!

wishing you all a fabbo NY when it comes! we're off to have dinner with friends but will be home by 10ish when they all head to the pub - this pleases me no end I must say!

rosa7 · 30/12/2008 12:12

oh, and I know its a very personal choice...but I am loving the odd small glass of wine or champers here and there!!

lolianja · 30/12/2008 15:45

Hi folks!

A recommendation from me - BellaBands! Dreadful corny name, but I've had mine for a few days now and it's absolutely indispensible. Maternity trousers not required - I can simply wear my pre-pregnancy jeans unbuttoned with the band to keep them up. They look nice and they're very comfy. Couldn't pop in without sharing. Available here --> www.ingridandisabel.com/

Am gone 31 weeks now and my baby's engaged already! Regardless of this I've a gut feeling we're heading for a late arrival - have had intense Braxtons since not long after the halfway point and no other signs that labour is imminent for now.

Hope everybody's well.

Bicnod · 01/01/2009 11:22

Happy New Year spring mums

Hope you all enjoyed your one/two glasses of champers last night... this is the first New Year's Day in a LOOOOOOOOOONG time that I haven't woken up with the hangover from hell and it feels a bit wrong...

Had a fab Christmas with the family (lots of small children to put the fear of god into me!) and really don't feel like going back to work on monday

Sooooooo... shall we try again for a Kingston meet up?

x x

p.s. very excited that I'll be 24 weeks on Monday - feels like a big milestone somehow...

Kalikaroo · 01/01/2009 20:48

Happy new year spring mums!! Just got back yesterday from the in-laws in Greece. It was really nice to see them. Definitely don't reccommed flying when 26 weeks pregnant though - bloomin' uncomfortable!! Could barely get the little tray down over my belly to eat my horrid airplane food!

daisyj · 02/01/2009 18:45

Hi everyone

Nasty food poisoning/bug put paid to my NY eve - fell asleep in front of TV at 10.30 having slept most of the day and eaten nothing but half a yoghourt all day. Ugh. Started spotting again - I wasn't really worried, but hospital insist that you should go in with any kind of bleed, and I did have a bit of pinky stuff, so off I went today, and all fine.

Rosa, I'm with you on the occasional drink - it feels like such a treat, doesn't it

loli and kalikaroo - good to see you. bicnod - good idea, let's definitely try for a meet in January, before we get too big and knackered to heave ourselves around.

Here's to a fab new year full of babies! YAY!!

daisyj · 02/01/2009 18:46

Oh, and I've posted a bump pic if anyone wants to see how rotund I am at 27+5

Bicnod · 02/01/2009 19:29

Hey everyone - have posted some pics of bump and bean

Daisy - your bump is so cute... it's good to see where I'll be at in 4 weeks time (I'm 23+4 today)

So where and when to meet? Still Kingston? Where's Flirty got to?!

girlylala0807 · 02/01/2009 22:33

daisyj · 03/01/2009 10:12

Bicnod - looks like your privacy settings are still on, as can't access your pics...

girly - for the first time in a while I started to feel really excited about the reality of having Bo in the house rather than just in my tummy. I think it's very healthy to be nervous about your life changing . It really hit me around 20 weeks, and I did start to feel a bit anxious. We're starting antenatal classes on Tuesday, and I kind of feel that I'm getting to that next stage of preparation now...

hever - congratulations on your scan - lots of girls here now. You're very organised. I was meant to go shopping for prams, etc., with my mum yesterday, but thought I should take it easy with the spotting and everything so have rescheduled. What kind did you get? I can't believe the choice out there - it's so confusing. Anyone else made a decision yet? I've heard lots of the travel systems are really heavy, but I suppose what you choose partly depends on whether you need to use public transport a lot, and things like that...

Advice from my SIL, who works for John Lewis, is that the iCandy Apple is popular but heavy, and that they often get back the Quinney Buzz and Gracco(?) for repairs.

brettgirl2 · 03/01/2009 10:28

Hi all,

I think with prams it's so hard and the more advice you get the harder it is. I got one for Christmas and just went to Mothercare and made my own decision. People have positive or negative stories about all of them. I took the attitude that I wanted something that would be usable soon after birth. The boot on my car is also very small so needed something that would fit. I also wanted a car seat attachment that would fit onto isofix in my (3 door (I know nightmare - but bigger house is 1st priority) car. Not only is this safer than just a belt, but also I won't have to mess around with seatbelts.

They start on about 'lifestyle' but to be honest I doubt that the so-called cross country ones are really much use anyway. She tried to tell us you coould take them up mountains (but not wheel a four wheeler round tesco) .

Anyone else finding that time is really dragging???

daisyj · 03/01/2009 10:52

Yup, 'lifestyle' seems to be the buzzword. I'm always tempted to say that I'm too busy trying to have a 'life' to have a style to go with it . brettgirl Sounds like your decision was based on sound common sense. I'm sure they all have their plus and minus points anyway, as you say.

Right, enough procrastinating on here. I'm now off to file 6-months worth of accumulated paperwork, which I just shoved into a box during our renovations. I'll probably find they're about to send the bailiffs round...

heverhoney1 · 03/01/2009 17:19

I wanted to get the cheap-ish trenton travel system from mothercare - which was heavy but is had everything that came with it. We have 2 cars in my house but mine is a tiny!! nissan micra and the trenton wouldnt fit in the boot - MAJOR hormonal hissy fit later we found that the Pilko Pramette does fit in the boot and was also on sale in mamas and papas (Still loads more than the trenton esp when you factor in the car seat- but we got a colour that they are discontinuing for some unknown reason as its really nice and got most of the acessories half price)

Bicnod · 03/01/2009 17:21

Oooops - Daisy have sorted out privacy settings now so pics should be up... let me know if it still doesn't work?

The bathroom saga is ongoing... today we had the floorboards and carpet up in the hallway as DH installed the underfloor heating (yes, we are clearly VERY posh indeed), and yesterday the central heating and hot water packed up for a few scary hours (argh!) but then it was sorted out (phew). Apparently the timeframe is now end of January for completion - it feels like this has been going on forever! I'm resigned rather than stressed now, which is a much more manageable state of mind to deal with.

With regards buggies (or 'travel systems' as everyone keeps calling them to me) - my Mum and Dad bought us one from ebay (brand new, ex-demo, reduced to £60!!!) for Christmas so that's sorted. It's a chicco one (don't know if that's good or bad?) and the car seat bit clips in and out, or it can just be a normal buggy. Seems like it will do the job so that's one more thing sorted...

Right, off to Sainsbury's now, then apparently we're going out for dinner - woo hoo - it's still Christmas (just) after all...

Hope you're all having good weekends x x x

daisyj · 04/01/2009 16:10

Bicnod - oh, cute bump! You look so slim at 16 weeks - that's what I look like most of the time!

Sounds like an amazing deal on the chicco - I'm going on ebay right now (after I phone my brother, who made a database of all his 'travel system' research (!) which I will plunder before making a final choice.)

hever - like the sound of the Pilko Pramette, too. I think I'd better hit the sales this week before all the best stuff goes.

evs34 · 05/01/2009 09:29

Hi everyone. Happy new year to you all and love to bumps.

sorry its ben ages, have been pretty busy over christmas period. all is well though. nice to see some bump pics, we need to take some soon! went shopping on sat to m and p and mothercare, have some gorgeous little outfits and hats - the choice is crazy and everything is sooooooooo cute - i wanted to buy it all. tried some buggies out in mothercare - the lady was v helpful though could not show us how to work the bugaboo which is the one i liked the look of. all v confusing and some are v v heavy.
GIRLY - i too have been fretting a bit the last cpl weeks, all seems v real now and worried how life is going to change and how our little darling is going to alter things between me and hubbie - even the dog!!! i am hoping it will just all slot into place.

only 8 weeks left in work and 2 of those are holiday !!!!! i finish the 1st march - 5 weeks before due date. cannot wait but at the same time dont want to wish the time away.

lol evs xxxxxxxxxxxx

BrightSideOfLife · 05/01/2009 13:50

hello all,

Another quiet one here - I have also been lurking and keeping up to date with everything but have admittedly been pretty lazy about posting. I hope everyone had a good Christmas & New Year break and aren't finding it too difficult to get back into work!

I had a great break but spent alot of it hobbling around with really bad hip pain. It seems to have eased off now but it was a wake-up call to try and take it easy!

We had our 22 week scan on the 23rd of December and whilst it was lovely to see a healthy & bouncing (literally!) baby on the screen, the sonographer was exceptionally rude & abrupt. It really put a damper on the experience. But it was great to see the baby and know it is healthy.

It is really interesting to see what everyone is saying about prams as we are starting to look and it is so confusing - there is so much choice. brettgirl which one did you buy in the end?

For anyone who is looking for cots, we bought a cot & mattress at Babies r' us and got a great deal on the sale.

girly I have also been feeling really anxious about the big changes about to take place in the BrightSide household. The idea of the first 6 weeks without sleep and with a tiny newborn terrifies me more than the idea of the labour at the moment!

bicnod flirty daisy and littleduck (and anyone else I have missed...) I would love a kingston meet-up. It will be great to compare bumps & pram-shopping-experiences :-))

Bleuravin · 07/01/2009 11:02

Good morning everyone, I'm newish, I've been on the other listing for April since Monday but someone mentioned there that there was this thread too for first time mothers giving birth in Spring so I thought I'd look you up too.
I'm due April 4th. I live in Cardiff. I'm American but have been living here for 3 years (DH is British).

I am finding that pregenacy over here is a bit different to what I'd expect back home, but besides my occational anxious, wide-eyed, 'OMG what am I going to do, I have no idea what the heck you're talking about' moments I think I'm coping ok with the differences. (I joined this group during one of those moments actually because I stumbled across you all when I was looking for ante-natal courses in my area, worried that I had not 'already booked' as those around me who have already had babies said I 'should have' done... One way or another THEY get to you don't they?)
