Me too Beans . I haven't asked either but am drinking lots more water in the hope it might clear whatever it is up!

Fingers crossed, rosemerta - I will let you know what the doctor says on Thursday morning! Seems like ages away.

Also, have decided to cut back on my chocolate intake. Everywhere I read it's telling me I should have put on around 22lbs and I've put on about 30lbs so far and know I've got a lot more to go. One place even suggested I should only put on 1 stone for the whole pregnancy, because my BMI was 25.3 before I started, so am categorised as overweight. Feeling a bit depressed now! Bad day all round!!!

GettingBiggerBird · 01/09/2008 11:58

Hi girls - haven't posted in ages and feels a bit odd to jump in when it's about something so personal, but from bitter experience last time round - increased discharge is common in pregnancy, and because of the additional moisture, it's very common for that to turn in to thrush, which would explain the smell. I'm not sure what the deal is about canesten in pregnancy, but I don't bother anyway, and just eat lots of live yoghurt and drink stuff like yakult, seems to clear it up with me.

Hope everyone else is OK. I'm really feeling huge already, though no swelling as yet, thankfully. I get extra scans with twins, have another tomorrow which is nice for reassurance though with the amount of wriggling going on I'm pretty sure they're both OK.

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 12:05

Thanks GBB - it probably is thrush. My doctor's male and very nice, so am a bit nervous about showing him my fanny, but if that's what it takes!!!
Oh lovely to have another scan, GBB - can't believe next time I see our little blip will be in December, after it's come out! How strange.

Does anyone know when the third trimester starts? One book says 26 weeks (which is me!) and another says 28...

chutneymary · 01/09/2008 12:27

Beans - your Dr will probably take your word for it! Does it itch? I am the thrush queen (as it were) and it is terribly itchy, though not usually smelly. Can use canestan but get it on prescription as it's free. You can't take the tablet, but you can have the pessary for your poor burning fanny and the cream to soothe.

Don#t wear knickers in bed, when you get home take your trousers off and put on pjs so the air can circulate, if you are having lots of sex treat DH too, avoid scented baths or knicker liners (euch) and wipe from front to back. It could be BV if smelly, but suggest you go down the thrush path first, and then get a swab for BV if it doesn't work.

HTH,

TheInvisibleHand · 01/09/2008 12:45

Veggie - I'm afraid day trips to the peaks predate DD - not sure we could manage a drive up, a walk round Edale and then back to London with her! It needs a loong summer day and a bit of energy to do that kind of thing... Have been up to do more gentle things with her, but not as often as we'd like (in-laws live in Manchester, so normally try to get up on the peaks when we are there)

Beans - more discharge is very definitely normal, don't really know about smell! Sounds like you've already had good advice on here though.

zoejeanne · 01/09/2008 13:00

beans I had thrush a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get Canestan from Boots, as it does have a warning about risks in pregnancy so they won't sell it. But the Dr prescribed the pessary and it was a free prescription - so I saved money - yay! The pessary got rid of it in a couple of days.

verso hope you're feeling better today

twiga great christmas thread. I keep telling people that I'm going to be well prepared this year, but I'm all talk at the moment. I've put a watch on this thread and I'm greedily absorbing all the tips.

I got the nursery painted this weekend, which I'm very chuffed about. Still got the window sill to gloss (yuck, nasty job), but I'm proud of the progress so far (smug emoticon)!

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 13:12

Thanks everyone. chutney - it's not actually itchy at all, just a little bit pongy. Bleugh. So disgusting. Will see what dr says - hope I dont' have to show him! What is BV?

I'm going down to parents for Xmas this year - have chickened out! And in-laws are coming too, which will be nice. Lucky they all get on.

Oooh ZJ - very impressed with painting - well done you!

Verso · 01/09/2008 13:15

beans you can get Canesten from the supermarket without them blinking an eye. The tips about a free prescription for it are good though.

Still feeling pretty rotten here - just seem to have loads of Braxton Hicks, which is getting quite tiring. Also having a stressful morning at work which isn't helping!

Effie I'm impressed at you working late into December. I stayed to the bitter end with DD and then really wished I hadn't as my SPD was dreadful and I also had no idea what looking after a newborn was like - so it was a shock to the system! This time round I'm finishing in late October - which means I get half term off with DH!

kmp1 · 01/09/2008 13:35

Beans yeah I think it's normal - I've had thrush during early preg the same as u described & got the pessary which cleared in 2 days also but the other thing like what you describe) was a little different. not as much discharge as thrush. I forgot to ask midwife last time but have looked up online and it seems normal - hormones I think. Let me know what your doc says about it though if you don't mind! I've put on about 9kg's or 20lbs and i've been stressing as my midwife originally said I should put on 12-15kg's total, so only 3-6kg's more!! Now I know the baby only weighs about half a kg at the moment so there's at least 3kg more I'll gain in baby alone!! Where in London are you Beans? Sorry if I've asked before!!

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 13:35

Poor you, Verso - you're having a bit of a rough trot at the moment. Hope things pick up soon.

Gosh, Effie working til December is very good. I'm counting down the working days til November 7th now - 50 to go - including today! I seriously can't wait. Just honestly find it hard to give a monkeys about anything I'm doing at the moment. Feels like such a waste of time. All I want to be doing is curling up on the sofa at home with a book or a film and just nesting a lot. People keep saying the time will fly by and it hasn't yet!!!

I emailed the girl at work who'd lost her baby and she came back today and sent me such a sweet response about how she was just taking it slowly and that I must look after my bump. She's so lovely and I really feel for her so much. But it has eased my worries and we have even waved and smiled at eachother. She said she would talk to me when she could, but that her first few days would be a bit wobbly. I'm not surprised at all and what a brave person she is. Must be so tough.

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 13:37

Sorry, kmp - crossed posts. I'm in Battersea - where are you?

kmp1 · 01/09/2008 13:39

I'm Raynes Park - are you going to the meet up? I think it's on the 19th! I've lost track of who is in London and who isn't - this thread moves so fast!!

Hello ladies,

I haven't been able to post for a while because the computer has been playing up. Very annoying!

In my one and only experience of thrush, it was so itchy and sore . Don't be embarrassed if you have to be examined beans (I think the Dr had a look ), he'll have seen it all before .

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about Christmas shopping already! I keep fretting that the baby will come early and I'll not have a single present. Eeek!

I've decided not to weigh myself anymore. In the last few weeks I have got much hungrier and only toasted current t-cakes will do, breakfast, mid-morning snack, mid-afternoon snack, supper! Is anyone else getting indigestion from fruit? Smoothies, apples, grapes etc all seem to set me off. All the baby wants bready stoge, honest!

reban · 01/09/2008 14:09

Hi all . am quite jealous of you all having a meet up in london .. im too far away in birmingham but an amazing amount mumsnetters seem to be london based!

I too am suffering from lack of dp support at the moment because the poor thing is working pretty much 12 hours a day 7 days a week. I feel fairly guilty as well as i only went self employed in feb,got pregnant in april and my venture failed pretty much straight away (bad time to become a self employed mortgage broker). So the responsibility for all the family finances is falling on DP's head. On the plus side i have enrolled on an accounts and bookeeping course starting 16th sept so at least that will signal a new career direction for post baby. Hopefully
Turnip know how your other half must be feeling banking and financial services are so fickle, its why i want to move away from it completely.

Off to see midwife this afternoon and update her on progress so far .. ive had 3 hospital appts and 2 scans since ive seen her last!

Any one else really suffering from heartburn? Every night i lie down i get terrible acid heartburn, anyone got any recommendations? not really had it before .. have a nice day everyone xx

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 14:22

Oh turnip - that's a shocker for your husband, horrible for you both to be worrying about it at a time like this. Will think of you both and keep everything crossed for you. Poor things.

Oooh yes, the London meet thread would be good if anyone has it? I am hoping to go, kmp, so hopefully see everyone there if possible?

turnip - we're off to France this weekend for my sister's 40th and flying Easyjet - I hate it! BUT if you're flying sleazyjet when you're pregnant, don't pay for speedy boarding as you get special boarding when you're pregnant anyway! Brilliant. But I bet it'll be delayed and generally rubbish anyway.

waitinggirl · 01/09/2008 14:23

hiya - just wanted to say - discharge during pregnancy is really common, completely normal and healthy and isn't necessarily thrush. i've had both over the past weeks and the thrush was obvious because of the constant itching and discomfort. otherwise i just put a panty liner in (btw i haven't found them yukky at all, rather really helpful) which means i can then wear my trousers for more than 2 days without having to wash them.

btw if it is thrush - my doctor was happy to prescribe me a canestan-type pessary and cream, but he told me not to use the applicator for the pessary - use your fingers instead - much more sensitive and less likely to force anything in the wrong place.

beans - well done on the email - really thoughtful and sensitive of you and well done her for her email back. hopefully at some point in the future she will have her own bump/baby to look after, but how awful for her at the moment. when i went back to work after both my m/cs last year, on top of the nightmare of m/cs themselves, it drove me absolutey INSANE that no one mentioned it, even though i knew it was because they didn't know how to. in the end i had to start talking about it myself and you could visibly see people relax that the subject had finally been addressed.

i, too, can't concentrate on anything and all i want to do is go home, and nest (notice the length of this post?) i'm sitting in a sodding library trying to grapple with methodologies, conceptual frameworks and other frustrating and obfuscating random stuff in order to get this arsing dissertation finished in the next 4 weeks. it isn't going to happen, i can tell.

turnip - fingers crossed for you

i weighed myself this morning just to see and i'm 14.5 stone - that means 2 stone over my normal weight. and i'm now heavier than DH - somehow i feel quite triumphant about it. only wondering how much more there is to go on.

right. am to stop posting and start trying to think and analyse critically.

pixsix · 01/09/2008 14:25

Hi Everyone,

Beans glad to hear things are ok with your friend from work, it sounds like you definitely did the right thing by writing to her. She sounds like a really brave woman.

Turnip I will keep my fingers crossed for your husband.

I had my 26 week ante natal appointment with the GP today and all was well except I'm measuring 29cm instead of 26 (I also measured 23cm at 21 weeks).

The dr tried to phone the hospital to see if I should have a growth scan but she couldn't get through so she told me to phone them myself later. I did phone them and they said I should have a scan but that I can't arrange it myself, the dr has to call them. So called the GP surgery and of course my GP is now out until tomorrow when I have to phone back to speak to her. At this rate I'm expecting it to take a while before the scan gets arranged!

Does anyone know what a too big fundal height measurement can indicate? Don't want to Google as last time I googled a problem I ended up completely freaked out....

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 14:25

Oooh, JB - tea cakes. I'm now gasping for one! EEEK!

I'm afraid I don't have heartburn, but have heard that Rennies help. I'm hoping my stomach will start to shrink soon with being squashed, so won't be able to eat so much. Then I might start feeling a little bit lighter!

Beans33 · 01/09/2008 14:27

oh no, pixsix - poor you. What a pain in the neck. Try not to worry too much and remember - if it was an emergency, the doctor would have insisted on getting through to the hospital. It'll be ok.

pixsix · 01/09/2008 14:28

Thanks Beans am not too worried, as you say, she definitely didn't seem to think it was too urgent. I'm just wondering what the scan might show?

waitinggirl · 01/09/2008 14:30

oh, yes, and forgot to say that opposite this libary is a community and leisure centre where i can see loads of mums and babies/kids. this means i am now obsessively and frantically observing what sort of pushchairs/prams all these mums have got. which means even less work gets done.

bugger
