Lowri I actually lived on the Island but close to the limehouse basin so used to cycle or run to the Lido from there. It is brilliant it is heated but only just so is still a little nippy but doesn't freeze though i didn't do much swimming in winter i have to admit as we were in australia and then moved up here.

mibbes · 21/08/2008 13:23

What a busy morning !

Veggie how strange, Tara gives me heatburn too ! I'm going to keep the Rennies handy next time

Rhinestone sorry to hear about your mum, hope all is ok. xx

Beans welcome back - glad tendon all better, grr at Londoners on the tube and at JP !

Yip I'll still read low rib too - sorry lowrib ! Oh and get Phil & Kirtsie to help you find the perfect out of town pad

SummerLightning · 21/08/2008 13:27

Veggie very jealous, I love the Peak district.
I was just wondering where on earth Stapncras was though! Realised you mean St pancras

We used to go there about once a month mountain biking, but I think the hills there will be too extreme for me at the moment!! In fact DH has a weekend planned there in October, he was saying "There will be some slow poeple coming, you should come"...err I will be 7 months pregnant!!! I don't think I will make it up Jacobs ladder on a bike!

Someday I will try and move somewhere with hills though.

RC sorry to hear about your mum - fingers crossed for speedy recovery.

majormoo · 21/08/2008 13:30

Rhinestone Cowgirl hope your mum is OK.As someone else said, if there is a problem it sounds like they found it early.

Beans-John Prescott!!! Mind you I am with you on David Tennant. Sorry you had such a rubbish day with transport. When we moved to Brighton in the middle of my pregnancy with DD I was commuting into the city every day and I used to HATE waiting to cram on to the train at London Bridge and usually had to stand at least til East Croydon (and I worked up til 38 weeks so was massive by the end!). Have to say though, I have quite often been to Clapham Junction and to Denmark Hill with a buggy and people have always been really helpful with the stairs, so perhaps they close their vision to pregnant women!

Maternity shops are rubbish in Brighton so jealous of you near good H&M and Topshop stores.

Indith was it you getting married? My list at John Lewis was back in 2000, when the computer systems were very archaic so am sure they have improved by now.

Had midwife on Tuesday. Usually I leave DS with DH as he works from home ,but had to take him with me this time as DH was at a funeral (his mum's godmother who made it to 93!). Could not concentrate on a word midwife was saying. When I had DS I got a Strep G infection from the hospital, so may apparently need antibiotics in labour. Have a big sticker on my notes now, but she was a bit vague about it. Will need to ask more next time.

SummerLightning · 21/08/2008 13:32

Oh meant to say Indith i had wedding list with JL, it was great! No probs at all.

So not all bad. They do send me endless annoying e-mails though. Hmmm...maybe I can stop them sending me them though..

theyoungvisiter · 21/08/2008 13:43

I also had wedding list with John Lewis and they were FAB - can't praise them enough. So another satisfied one here!

I think you can tick something asking them not to email you - you have to read the fine print though!

The bit where you wander around with the swiping gun is the best fun in the world!

EffiePerine · 21/08/2008 13:50

LayT: if youare heading to H&M Regent St this eve, beware that they don't have many sizes in atm, I struggled to find replacements for my medium stuff in a large. So I now have a red cardi instead of a black or purple one which I have decided is better anyway . They also have maternity vest tops for 3.99 so I scored some of them.

What I do need now are more plain jersey type tops, or patterned ones suitable for the large of nork. Preferably not too expensive!

Might have a look in DP if I get the chance, seem to remember their tops are quite good.

We will hopefully be leaving London late this year or early next and are heading east into Essex . Currently living in Hackney, so it will be a bit of a change... I'll miss our area of London though, as we've been here nearly 9 years. Will still be working in Central London so will have that link.

Veggiemummy · 21/08/2008 13:53

LOL at my typo i did mean St pancras. SL i have to say i love off road cycling but not great at downhill i get a bit nervy going too fast down the tracks, have you ever been to the Penshurst Off Road club down near Tunbridge wells, i nearly killed myself there on their little round the top jumps track.

rosmerta · 21/08/2008 13:55

Hi all, lots to catch up on!

LadyT, get someone in to deal with those mice [stern look].

Beans, sorry about your rubbish journey. Its not often I'm on the tube with bags and things now but I always ask for help going up the stairs, people are usually really happy to help. I think until you point it out to them they're just blind to you!

Hi to lowrib, glad you found us

Am quite of everyone moving out of London. We were going to try to move later this year but have had to put it off for a couple of years. And even then we won't be going that far because of dh's work! I'd love to move out properly though.

Veggiemummy · 21/08/2008 13:58

mibbes i get the heartburn as soon as i do any pose that requires my upper body to be lower than my lower body including childs pose. I have to do the one with my arms propped up on a pillow.

SummerLightning · 21/08/2008 14:24

Veggie no never been to Penshurst, do (did) do a lot of mountain biking though. To be honest I prefer the downs to the ups!! Especially at the moment. I live in the worst part of the UK for it though (east anglia). Have to do a lot of travelling for decent riding.

Beans33 · 21/08/2008 14:37

oooh, I went to JL last year for wedding list and they were great! Although there are still a couple of things outstanding from October, but that's down to Spode rather than JL. But they're on the case for me. thought they were great - and if you and DH to be disagree on anything, you can say "yes dear" then edit it online and put on what it was that you wanted and he said no to - or remove what he wanted on there and it repulsive. He'll forget about all stuff anyway! hahahaha! [evil emoticon].

We're off to North of Cumbria for our anniversary in October - just north of Penrith, where DH's parents have a lovely little cottage. Can't wait! Loads of lovely walks up there, although next to Caldbeck Fell, which is enormous and I struggle to walk it when I'm not pregnant - Lord only knows where we'll go come October - we'll have to take DVDs - think DH might get a bit bored. Oh dear!!

LadyThompson · 21/08/2008 14:57

Ooh, thanks for the tip off Effie. I have to go to Oxford Circus tonight anyway because the receipt on my M&S trousers is running out. So may as well see what they've got. Is your move to Essex definitely on then?

Yes, yes, Rosmerta, I will....eventually.... Whenever I turn off the light, I imagine a scene from a cartoon where are hundred pairs of yellow eyes are peering at me through the darkness.

Beans33 · 21/08/2008 15:25

hee hee! I like that image LT. although actually a bit scary. I watched "30 Days of Night" on the train yesterday on my laptop. Shrieked outloud. Very embarrassing!

Beans33 · 21/08/2008 16:29

I know it may be a little previous, but I've just organised my Maternity Leave lunch at work! Brilliant!

kmp1 · 21/08/2008 16:38

Very depressed today. Bought one of those bump bands from Topshop thinking I could wear my jeans undone with it...... Felt like was trying to put on a 12 yr old girl's pair when they wouldn't even go over my thighs... admitedly they have just been washed, and i've been eating like a bastard, but didn't realise it had got that out of hand If i start eating healthy again is it possible to lose a bit of fat there? It was the eating in the 1st 3-4 months that did it.... plus I sit around all day now at work and have been having junk food in between healthy sandwich.... Feel so bad that I have not been healthy.... very unlike me I have to get out more and walk the dog. All you 2nd time pregnancies, will I be able to get this thigh and bum size down a little? Or am I stuck with it till post pregnancy? One other question for the experienced mums - I'm going to try and not do the whole travel system thing but prefer to get a 3 wheeler and then try and carry bub as much as possible wearing a carrier - do you think it will drive me nuts? I just can't be bothered with all these car seat to carrier to pushchair arrangements when I travel so much..... Any advice appreciated (fat thing and travel systems) Sorry for all the me me me just having a really bad day.... not to mention bored again.....

SummerLightning · 21/08/2008 16:46

kmp all my normal clothes are in the loft! My thighs have definitely got bigger. I think this is normal? I am sure eating healthily will minimise the damage if you see what I mean, but not sure it is realistic or healthy to try and actually lose weight at this point.
I am trying not to worry about it. Have put on over a stone and it is definitely NOT all on the bump.
It is my first one so I am not an expert though!
Cheer up as well !! I have had a few stropettes at expanding thighs, etc at certain points as well...I am sure some people manage not to put on too much but they are jammy

Are you going to have to travel lots even just after the baby arrives then?

Veggiemummy · 21/08/2008 16:56

kmp not sure if your planning to BF but if you are esp exclusively you will losemuch of it then. I know what you mean about healthy eating i was the same last pregnancy and this one i shock myself (and DH) at how badly i eat when normally i am really careful and actually enjoy healthy food but when pregnant i just become a big sugar monster. But don't worry you are only pregnant for a limited time don't actively try to lose weight maybe just do some walking and any other gentle exercise if it makes you feel better.

also i'm with you on the travel system thing but when i had DS we didnt have a car. I wore DS in a sling for the most part when getting about for about 3months then it was pushchair and sling until 6months. It does occasionally get annoying with the sling (we had a huggabub one) as you have to consider what your wearing and if you have a nice top well no one can see it because you have a baby in front of it, but that was the only down side really. We have a car this time but as we walk most places around town i will be doing the same thing esp taking DS to nursery as couldn't bothered strapping 2 kids in the car. Wearing your baby does make a lot of things easy as at least you have it generally settled and can get on with whatever else your doing.

kmp1 · 21/08/2008 16:58

Hi Summerlightning, thanks, I think i'm just having a really bad day - found out I have to shell out big money for plumbing which I don't have, and i'm on a day off which I had big plans to walk the dog and get lot's of boring chores done - and haven't left the couch except to eat left over curry and try on my jeans which don't fit even over thighs It's not at all that I want to diet (don't get me wrong) but I just know that i've been eating triple the amount plus junk food as well that I know the baby doesn't need and wondered if I stopped all the bad food if the fat thighs may shrink even just a little???? Anyway, I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow...
Yeah all my family are scattered around Australia and I plan on taking a trip back a couple of times during my maternity leave next year as I get super cheap flights and I just want to travel with the least amount of gear I can get away with, since I know how much my brother gets worked up about carting baby stuff around (although he is a single dad of 3 with full custody to be fair)

kmp1 · 21/08/2008 17:05

Hi Veggie yeah that's what mum told me - when she BF the MW was actually really worried as she was losing too much weight! But that said, I don't think she ate as much as I have been during her pregnancy and actually walked out of hospital in pre-preg clothes!!!!! I am having 1st baby 12 years after the age she had my brother so i'm thinking my metabloism has slowed down majorly compared to when she had kids!!! I do plan to BF as well so hoping that helps although the soreness of these boobs and with nipples I feel like I could light the gas with, I sure hope that improves or I'll struggle!

SummerLightning · 21/08/2008 17:08

I think having days where you do sod all are essential in pregnancy
It's not too late to take the dog out for a nice walk though (assuming it's not tipping it down (sigh))
I am too trying to eat healthier, but am not expecting any miracle thigh reduction as I am really hungry all the time and still eating a lot even though I am cutting out the rubbish.

SummerLightning · 21/08/2008 17:10

My friend is breastfeeding and has lost 10lbs in a month!! And she says she is not cutting down that much either, just being healthy.

kmp1 · 21/08/2008 17:10

If anyone is in London and wants to get together ever, please let me know - I think I really need to get out of the house!! Most of the people I know work full time or don't live nearby. I work 3 days a week but otherwise am childless for now so pretty flexible and not always this depressed!

Veggiemummy · 21/08/2008 17:11

kmp if you can get away with having some people come to you in Oz i would recommend it. we first went home with DS when he was 6.5months he is was a really adjustable baby and was pretty cruisey but even he found all a bit too much when we kept moving around a flying to different places. I think three states in 4 weeks and several different beds during that time was too much for him.

last trip last year when he was around 2.5years was better as he and i stayed for 2months and didnt go so many places and stayed longer than a few days in places.

how do you get cheap flights?

kmp1 · 21/08/2008 17:12

You're right Summer - I'm off to walk the dog..... Check back with you all later.... thanks ladies x
