Well that was cutting it a bit fine...

OP posts:

Potxola that's wonderful news! So you will only have one set of nappies to change.....DD is the opposite when it comes to feeding, she wants to feed herself but finds it too difficult with the spoon so she shoves it in with her hands. Today it was Shepherd's Pie...not the easiest thing to eat with her hands and she was a mess afterwards but she tends to fight me now when I try and feed her with a spoon. I'm hoping some day when she's a bit older she will start to use cutlery!

Great that your DH is now off for 4 weeks. That will take a lot of pressure off you. I've heard the recovery is much quicker after an elective CS too so hopefully by the time he goes back to work you will be able to cope on your own.

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:39

jearund A favour please. When you read the post my dh is going to put in my behalf here to let you know we are ok after the C-section, can you please tell the mamis espan-olas as well? Gracias

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:41

Anything that helps with constipation sounds good to me! I think I had better buy some peppermint tea too, although it doesn't appeal to me either. But I had the worst constipation of my life after DD, I think it was at least partly all the codeine. I don't fancy going through that again!

Incidentally I adore tea (although I drink it decaffinated these days) but DH is just like you, he hates tea and coffee and only drinks things like Diet Coke, Vimto, Iron Bru (he's Scottish) and water. Oh and hot chocolate, do you like that?

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:42

Potxola Yes of course I will x

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:44

Yes, I remember your dh is taking 6 weeks, that is fantastic!.
I am pretty sure, we (you and I) will recover soon with the help of the arnica, but I really want to stay in hospital till I feel ok. I am not going to push them to let me go, because I know myself and I will be up and down the stairs at home (the worse thing you can do after a C-section). So I will try to stay at least 4 days from the moment I can stand up.

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:44

Potxola does your DH speak Spanish? Do you speak English at home? What about DS, is he more fluent in English or Spanish?

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:45

Why is going up and downstairs the worst thing you can do after a c-section?

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:47

What a question HOT CHOCOLATE! I adore it! I had lots of those too in hospital, but they weren't very nice.
I only drink hot milk and hot chocolate. When I went to uni I tried the coffe to stay awake while studying and I was very sick afterwards.
It is lovely having this chat with you.

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:54

*Jearund8 yes DH speak spanish,he is fluent. He learnt it with me. We have been together for 14 years and we lived for 2 years in northern Spain. DS has changed a lot in the last month and can't stop talking very well in both. Till then his English wasn't as good as his Spanish and we were very worried.

I taught him to read in Spanish and now he has to read everything from signs till composition of vitamins. It is very funny. He loves letters and he is starting to realise that he can read in both languages and loves translating me things from one to the other. At least I don't have to worry about failing at school. And to think we were worried about him falling behind because he had 2 languages at home!!

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:55

Potxola of course I forgot: Spain is the country of chocolate and churros! I can imagine hospital instant hot chocolate would be a big disappointment after that!

I am multitasking at the moment. I'm on here, I'm knitting the second sleeve on Dougie's little cardigan, I was entering a few competitions on the internet (but I've finished now) and I'm watching an Italian music channel which seems to be doing a show about their X-Factor winners who have just sung a really good version of Under Pressure. I suppose they would be good though, to win it!

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:57

jearund because the skin is pulled from the effort of going up and down. Ideally we should rest for about a week. That is why I was ok after the first time because I was in hospital for that long not doing much, only looking after ds.

jearund · 24/08/2008 22:02

Potxola I am enjoying chatting too! 14 years is a long time! How come you waited 10 years before you had DS? DH and I have been together for 3 and a half years. It was a whirlwind romance - we met on a course when I was engaged to someone else and we really hit it off but that was all as I was attached. Then we started working together and it became so apparent that we were made for each other that I broke up with my (long distance) fiance after 2 months and 3 months later we were married!. Still blissfully happy.

It sounds like your DS is going to be in the perfect situation - fluent in both. How lovely that he translates from one to the other. I am going to make more effort with DD as she starts being able to imitate me, I will teach her the Spanish words for things as well as the English ones. It will always be a foreign language for her but the earlier she learns, the better I think.

potxola · 24/08/2008 22:03

I am impressed with your multitasking. I must go to bed to read The secret of the baby whisperer. Dummy or not? that is the question. With ds I refused to give him one and he NEVER suck his thumb, mind you my breast was his conforter. What I am going to do this time?????

AHHHHH! I just remember after what you said, I have some instant Spanish chocolate (yes the one for the churros) No, I can't have it now it is far too late.

Eanz Many thanks I will have a go. I still have to cook meals for my ds for the days I won't be here.BUSYYYYYYYYY

jearund · 24/08/2008 22:10

I've read Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, I remember it was good as it taught you how to understand what your baby was trying to tell you and also about getting into a routine (although that should be easier 2nd time round). DD didn't take to a dummy either. We didn't introduce it for a few weeks because of the BF and she didn't like it when we did. Then she found her fingers and self-soothed with those so there was no need. We're not great fans of dummies here because you've got to get them to give them up at some point! I think they can be useful when they are tiny though. I'm hoping Dougie won't need one, then it will be easier.

My DH has just got home from his shift so I will also sign off. Night night !

potxola · 24/08/2008 22:13

What a great story! And you are about to have your second child! Lucky you.

Well we met while working in London, then we lived in France for a while, and we married 7 years later, coinciding with moving to Spain for 2 years. I got pregnant twice while living there and twice miscarriaged.
3 months after we came back to the Uk in Sep 03 I got pregnant. But this time it worked. So, yes, we left it late, but luckily it has worked the last 2 times we have tried. I don't think I would have tried for more than 3 months, I found it very upseting, thinking I might miscarriage again.
I will read you reply and I am going to bed, I am knackered and I can't spell anymore.
I would love us to life near each other. I think we would get on very well.

Buy the Pocoyo Dvd.You will see her interest growing even more and you can always speak to her in Spanish while you both watch it.

potxola · 24/08/2008 22:17

I meant to live near each other

jearund · 24/08/2008 22:22

Potxola in case you haven't gone to bed yet (you said you'd read my reply) I'm sending one more. You have had a time of it getting (and staying) pregnant. No wonder you were so worried throughout this pregnancy. Nearly there now though! I've been very lucky, I got pregnant easily and haven't had any miscarriages. I know just how lucky I am!

I also wish we lived nearer to each other .

One more thing - I have bought the c-section belt you recommended ages ago. Can you ask at the hospital how early you can use it? It says not to use the hot and cold inserts until the wound has healed up but I'm wondering whether to bring the belt itself to the hospital to use straight away just with the padding to protect my wound from the baby's kicks?

Really night night this time!

Have a great bank holiday ladies!

potxola · 25/08/2008 10:02

mumiyumi Thank you. I am very excited today.I can't wait to see her face.

jearund We are supposed to leave the area to dry, but that is impossible unless you are naked at home. What they really mean is to wear loose clothes around that area. of course you can use the belt while in hospital, but as you say, only with the padding. If you are about to cough or sneeze you can put you hand over it and press a bit, it will help you avoiding the pain.

mustsleep · 25/08/2008 10:34
