Well that was cutting it a bit fine...

round and round the mulberry bush the farmer chased the weasel....

it is a great idea starlight butI also have a BA in English and saw a chance to improve the rhyme scheme.

digitalgirl · 24/08/2008 18:20

sorry you had such a traumatic labour kiskidee. The midwife yesterday said the baby is back to back, it seems to have turned since earlier in the week when it was facing right (spine to the left).

Am concerned I won't be doing enough in the next few weeks to encourage baby to squirm round, have to sit back on the sofa to put my feet up or the get so swollen. Also SPD means I can't do too much standing.

kiskidee · 24/08/2008 18:25

Digital, i guess I shoudl have said that if your body has various signs of preparing for labour, it means that the induction will be gentler to your body or more likely to succeed without moving up to a c/s and hopefully, no epidural.

I would then ask them to discuss with you how high your bp and protein is so you are making a decision of 'convenience' vs risk.

If it turns out that both these things can be managed with betablockers etc and even a hospital stay in order to keep your body healthy and give your baby and body more time to prepare for labour, irregardless of whether you end up with induction or c/s.

In my case, my bp was so high, and my body so not ready for labour, that a straight c/s would have saved me a lot of grief later on.

kiskidee · 24/08/2008 18:30

I try to spend a lot of my time lying on my sofa on my left side which is supposed to be good. It is not too soft so I don't sink in so it keeps my line straight.

I also have spd. I have found that draping myself over my birthing ball, bum sticking out and doing circles, side to side, whatever is comfortable on it for about half an hour provides excellent relief from SPD. Like the bones in the pelvis re-aligning into place for a while till they slip out again and start to hurt.

I also try to get on the ball when I can feel her squirming around so that she and I can work together on achieving optimal position. or maybe i am just fooling myself. Still, positive thinking and all that.....

eandz · 24/08/2008 18:31

also, i'm starting to worry about the umbilical chord being wrapped around the baby's neck? how do i make sure this doesn't happen?

DebitheScot · 24/08/2008 19:33

I want to join in the pineapple, chilli and raspberry leaf tea comp too.

I did wonder about just eating lots of my home made raspberry jam until I twigged that it's raspberry leaf tea and there's no leaves in the jam

I find the tea tastes ok if you add a spoonful of sugar and make sure it's stewed for ages so it doesn't taste of dish water.

hopefully · 24/08/2008 19:43

I have dutifully managed to consume a record 3 cups of boring raspberry leaf tea of boringness today. It also brings on heartburn, which is nice

I'm thinking of making a jugful tomorrow, sweetening it a bit and keeping it in the fridge to have as a cold drink throughout the day. it just tastes of leaf though.

meglet · 24/08/2008 19:51

hello again bikerunski didn't you have awful morning sickness when we first started?

I had a nice day today, went to the gym in the morning then had a nap. Dishwasher died on us, but it was very old and a new one is coming from Tesco on friday (thank goodness for credit cards!). Just hope the baby doesn't appear before then.

kisidee I think you have a good point about induction being a bit of a hassle. I know a few people who have been induced, they seem to work better on women who have already had a baby. Hope you don't need any interventions this time round!

DebitheScot · 24/08/2008 19:53

kiskidee I tried getting myself into a position like that on my ball and got myself stuck in a very uncomfy position! DH was laughing so much he couldn't help me!

My best friend had a back-to-back baby, I spoke to her at 10.30pm one night and she said the midwife had told her that day the baby wasn't coming anytime soon and the next morning I had a message saying he'd been born at 1am! So they're not always long slow labours.

potxola · 24/08/2008 19:54

Hi.
Am I going to be the next one? AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I am starting to get nervous and to order my dh around, because my tummy doesn't allow me to do all the last nesting I need to do.
I am reading 2 bboks at the moment during the night, I can't sleep; Secrets of the baby whisperer and Confident baby care by Supernanny. I am just remembering the problems I had because my ds only learn to fall asleep on the breast and I am preparing myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DebitheScot · 24/08/2008 19:57

ah potxola glad you're here. Had a thought that it would be useful to know what the arnica does is for a c-sec just in case and also so I can pass on my leftovers (they've already arrived by the way) to a friend who's going to have an elective. Is it just the same as for normal birth but take one before the c-section too?

eandz · 24/08/2008 19:57

my boobs are leaking again.

meglet · 24/08/2008 20:03

poxtola best of luck for this week, is it Weds you are going in?

eandz · 24/08/2008 21:06

poxtola
are you going to take some pasta with you for afterwards?

i was thinking about making some chicken chipotle pasta (it's what i used to eat when i had sports events when i was younger) i always had lots of energy and stamina.

i'll be happy to give you the recipe.

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:19

DebitheScott On tuesday morning I have to see the anesthetist and will ask him about taking it before the C-section since I should be fasting since the night before. I will let you know what he tells me. For a normal delivery you can take it before without problems.

Meglet yes it is on Wednesday. I have asked my dh to let you know on wednesday evening we are ok, so you don't worry about it, OK?

Eanz great idea!, yes please give me that recipe. I am taking chocolate muffins (they helped me last time with the BF) and cereal bars.

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:19

Potxola I'm thinking about you. It's Tuesday isn't it? Have you got the pre-op tomorrow? Let us know what they say - I'm especially interested and will be taking notes!

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:20

oops - crossed posts!

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:21

I've packed cereal bars too for the middle of the night feeds. How did chocolate muffins help with breastfeeding??!

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:22

Hi Jearund

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:24

jearund I just remember having this craving for chocolate muffins and my dh had to gey lots from the coffe shop. Ds was very hungry when he started to BF, we were in hospital for a week, and they just made me have energy.

jearund · 24/08/2008 21:30

Sounds good! I remember being very hungry in hospital, probably because I never got more than about an hour's sleep at a time before it was time to start feeding again! I also remember that the canteen didn't open for breakfast until 7am and I was clock watching until then with a very rumbly tummy!

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:31

jearund Do you remember I told you about 4 months ago about the potty training and the fact that I had to still feed ds with the spoon? WELL, he is fully potty trained now and my dh (who is on holiday for 4 weeks now) has taken over supervising the feeding and ds eats by himself now!!!!!!!!!!! (Ds didn't want to let go of having me feeding him).
I am soooooo pleased Lorea is coming in 2 days time and her brother is independent!!!!!!!
(you know what I mean)It is like a circle. I teach one everything he needs and I am about to start with the other one, just in time.

potxola · 24/08/2008 21:35

Exactly!!!. That is why is you know you might need your sugars, make sure you have them handy.
I forgot, I hate tea or any hot drink, including coffe(I know it is strange), but other mums have recommended me to take peppermint tea after the surgery. It helps with the constipation we will have after they cut us open. So I am taking some tea. i hope I can drink it. I might have to drink it cold.
