New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
theyoungvisiter · 08/08/2008 20:55

jam your poor sister - I don't have any experience I'm afraid - only second hand through friends.

But I do know lots of people who had babies in varying degrees of neonatal care - from just a stubborn bit of jaundice right through to a terrifying scenario where a friend's baby was kept under sedation due to suspected brain damage - and they all went on to bf successfully and had happy outcomes.

Sending your sister lots of good vibes and swift recovery for the baby.

JamInMyWellies · 08/08/2008 21:11

thanks everyone had no more news so am hoping things are improving.

Sorry been really bad at keeping up this wk. All good here bump is all over the place at one point last night I thought the mini munch was doing the macharena.

Glad to hear all the scans went well.

Veggie how annoying for you if you can oafford to go down the private route I would.

Saw earleir chat about bumps and pillows I could never get on with having extra pillows got too hot and sweaty so I kind of do an on my side with the top leg bent the bottom leg straight and then the bump rests on the matress.

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2008 21:26

thanks Jam i think we would like to go private, only problem is we may be too late to get an independent midwife as they may all be booked up in our area, but will see waiting for a couple to get back to me.

Tonight i was getting my dinner and i opened the fridge and spent about a minute standing with the door open trying to work out what i had wanted then realized i had actually meant to open the oven to get my veggie pie out, so dippy.

rosmerta · 09/08/2008 08:17

lol veggie, I've had lots of dippy moments as well!

jam hope you get some more news today about your sister.

Does anybody want to buy a maternity top? I got one from Ebay but its too small, never been worn, still has tags attached. It's from FunMum, can get a picture if you want.

majormoo · 09/08/2008 13:40

Jam I have no direct experience either but hope everything works out for your sister. A friend of mine had an elective c-section and her baby came out not breathing properly-he was transferred to a hospital miles away so she could not see him let alone feed him for the first day or so, as she had to stay in Brighton and he was in London. I know a friend of mine who had her baby at 33 weeks was not allowed to hold him for a few days but not sure what the reasons were. I remember that the dad had to wait ages to hold him-maybe a few weeks. He is now nearly two and absolutely fine (in fact considering he was premature he is on the 91st centile for height.) Both of my friends managed to breast feed

waitinggirl · 09/08/2008 14:17

jam - hope things work out with your sister.

can someone explain to me what spd feels like? i have started having niggling shooting pains in my nether regions - they don't feel to me like ligament pain (nor, alas, baby movement), but like shooting pains into where i wee from. that makes me sound like a 6 year old, but does anyone know what i mean?

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2008 15:24

actually jam i cant believe i had forgotten this. one of the girls from my DS's NCT group back in London had her DS by emergency c-section at 30 weeks. Her DS is 3 now and all fine and she breastfed, expressed initially and he was fed by a tube until he could suck.she had to really push for breastfeeding as her DS wasn't gaining weight and the nurses wanted to give formula to supplement but she insisted and in the end he was exclusively breastfed once he left hospital until about 6months and fed altogether until 9months. they bonded really well even though she was quite unwell herself for the first week or so.

I have a splitting headache as i didnt get a coffee this morning and am paying for it now. Worrying that i am so addicted to caffiene still.

rosmerta · 09/08/2008 15:43

jam hope your sister has got some good news.

waiting I've only had psd mildly, my pelvis just aches a lot, especially after just getting up in the morning or sitting down for long periods of time.

Have braved Ikea today to look at beds for ds, he seems so grown up now .

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2008 15:54

oh that is brave Rosemerta did you find one?
DS's cotbed is quite big and he still fits in quite well. so we have decided to try out the baby hammock thing we are being given for new one for a while before getting him a new one. The only thing is we tool the rails off it ages ago and put a little rail thing on but it was real pain as it went under mattress and as DS moves around a lot he would mostly kick it out so we took it off and put an old cot mattress next to his bad, but he still rolls out a lot. was wandering if i should take the mattress away and give him an incentive not to fall out, does that sound cruel.

JamInMyWellies · 09/08/2008 16:42

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. Spoke to her this morning have updated the thread but things are getting better.

Went to my fist prego yoga session today it was fab really think I will go again. jenduck were you Chelmsford have you heard of yogaviva?

Beans33 · 09/08/2008 18:43

Jam - hope things keep getting better.

All well here - although feel knackered, despite 8 hours straight sleep. Had a cheeky half hour doze on sofa this pm. DH now insisting on cooking fish for dinner. I'm not a big fan of fish, but sure it'll be lovely - he's doing a saffron sauce, so should be interesting!

Anyway, can't be long, but my exciting news of today is that we finally bought our super king size bed. Even talked the salesman down £200, which is great. Can't wait - arriving on 27th August - seems ages away! hurray for big bed and room to actually relax and not feel like I'm encroaching with ever-expanding gut!

Best to you all

xxx

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2008 19:52

well done Beans and will come in handy when the little beastie infiltrates your bed.

Indith · 09/08/2008 20:21

Stop posting so much!

Jam Many good thoughts heading your dsis' way. Hope things are improving, glad she has been able to hold the baby.

Beans I am very of the bed. We had a king size in the flat where ds was born. In fact he was born on the bed but only double here With ds I had a huge nest of pillows by the end, a long one between legs and snaking up to stop the pain in my pelvis, a couple shoved under my back to be able to lean backwards just the right amount to stip that hurting...once you get it just right then there is no going back! I think dp would have to be on the floor if I had that many again!

Anything else I may have read has completely slipped my mind, I blame the small wriggly thing.

rosmerta · 09/08/2008 21:28

veggie I think we've chosen one but after seeing the 30min queue at the checkouts we decided to get it another day!

Hi indith why don't you visit more often instead?

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2008 21:42

30minutes!!!! bloody hell i've seen some long lines at ikea but that is massive.

I think DH and i have had about 70% of the arguments that we have ever had in our relationship in Ikea. It took us a couple of trips to Ikea to realize that it was low sugar and caffeine levels so we now have a rule to stop for a coffee & cake as much as possible. and now we try to spot other couples having barneys, which can be fun, although a little surprising what women say to their DH/DPs to belittle them.

rosmerta · 09/08/2008 21:49

Hi veggie, another Sat night on MN . Our local Ikea is Wembley, its always that busy! We tend to choose what we want on the website, then dh goes at about 11pm to pick it up when its much quieter.

I agree, it is surprising what you hear people say to each other sometimes

theyoungvisiter · 09/08/2008 21:59

oo Rosemerta here is my Ikea tip - we have just started going to Edmonton Ikea and it is SOOOOO empty.

We went today - when Wembley would normally be heaving and queues at the door etc - and drove straight up at 9am into a space beside the front door, sat in an empty cafe and had coffee, and were out by 11am where there was only one person in front of us at the checkout. In fact there was an empty checkout further up the row but I couldn't be bothered to push the trolley up to it .

Admittedly it's another 1/2 hour round the North circular from Wembley, but you probably save that easily in terms of queuing and life expectancy knocked off you at Wembley due to stress.

We were buying a larger blackout blind for DS's window in an effort to get him sleepign longer in the morning - methinks only valium will really do the job, alas.

rosmerta · 09/08/2008 22:03

thanks for the tip tyv, will mention it to dh!

theyoungvisiter · 09/08/2008 22:09

go on veggie - tell us what you've heard people saying to their husbands! I shall store it up for when I divorce DH in a storm of bitterness and legal bills.

Not much opportunity to use putdowns at present - we seem to have stopped arguing since having DS - most odd!

Although thinking about it - all we ever used to argue about was politics anyway - perhaps it's more that we're too tired to listen to newsnight these days

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2008 22:28

DH and i tend only to argue when i'm due on, when i'm a bit hormonal moody and he happens to day something just slightly wrong, i squeal for a bit storm off then apologize. DH on the other hand is pretty chilled it takes a lot to get him cranky. We do def argue a lot less now DS has come along, i think your perspective changes a bit and also i think i finally rew up a bit.

One time in Ikea we heard this women just completely emsculinating her DH telling him he was a sad stupid tiny man and that he was weak and ridiculous and all this stuff. it was amazing, we were thinking what could possibly have caused hat tirade in Ikea.

The Edmonton one is good too because you can take your trolley to your car and pack it at the parking spot if you want instead of having to drive around to that packing car park bit, which is always full.

Veggiemummy · 09/08/2008 22:31

oh i think my exciting saturday night maybe nearly over i'm shattered, got woken up at 3am by DS bringing up his dinner in bed next to me, so a bit sleepy. only 2 more sleeps til DH comes home yay.

night night

Hard to believe we're half way through already!

It's gone so quickly. I'm sure the 2nd half is quite a bit harder than the 1st half though!

waitinggirl · 10/08/2008 11:22

just want to second, third and fourth with my vote for the Edmonton IKEA - unbelievably empty at all times of the day (something to do with the stabbings which happened on the day of the opening???).

and keep it to yourselves, but we have even been known to turn up at 9am on a sat morning simply for the £1.50 breakfast. we are such chavs...

thx for the advice about spd - maybe my pains aren't that - will talk to mws about it on tues when we have appt.

lovely day to you all

lal07 · 10/08/2008 11:54

Jam hope your DSIS still improving - my friend's baby was in SCBU for similar reason and although really hard for a couple of weeks eventually bf absolutely fine.
Totally agree about arguing in Ikea...and similarly solved by starting with cake. That and on occasion just abandoning trolly half way round and going for drink instead (pre DS that is).
Acupuncture nothing short of miraculous - genuinely didn't feel sick for about 2 hours. Then back again...but am hopeful that more treatments will help. Also now sporting sea sickness bands round wrist in 80s sweat-chic way. Nice. Hope you're enjoying Sunday
