New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

OP posts:

All these pillows sound very confusing, what do you need extra pillows for?
Do you lie on your side and put the pillow under the bump to support it?
And why do you put one between your legs?

GettingBiggerBird · 08/08/2008 14:39

Pillow between the legs has really helped my lower back pain - it keeps your pelvis in a better position.

theyoungvisiter · 08/08/2008 14:39

SL they aren't essential - it depends how you sleep as to whether you need one or not - but having something to lean on can help to either stop you from toppling onto your bump too heavily (if you sleep side/front) or to stop your bump from dragging to one side (if you sleep side/back).

Some people never need them/want them, but personally I can't cope without something when I'm pg - otherwise I spend the whole night rolling onto my bump in my sleep and then waking up uncomfortable. Last pg I didn't use one until about 24 weeks, this time round I was using it from 12 weeks and really needed it.

theyoungvisiter · 08/08/2008 14:43

this is someone using a wedge pillow here

This is someone using a sausage pillow here

You can get some dead weird ones that kind of loop around and make a nest - but I don't think there would be room for DH in the bed if I got one of those!

theyoungvisiter · 08/08/2008 14:44

Like this one - god knows how you use it!

loopy pillow

SummerLightning · 08/08/2008 14:47

Thanks!!
I have to admit they look very comfy. I don't have a big bump yet, but I can imagine that it gets a bit heavy and needs supporting when it's a bit bigger. I have been sleeping really well, though I did wake up with a really sore hip one night, not sure what caused that.
I am a big fan of hugging pillows, rearranging pillows, throwing pillows out of bed, etc in the night so I think I may have to get at least a wedge style one.

SummerLightning · 08/08/2008 14:50

tyv, that looks like a purple poo!
Oh i am so immature.
Actually that looks great! I could have fun moving that round, fighting over it with DH in my sleep, etc.
We have a king size bed so hopefully there will be room for extra pillows. If not I will kick him out

GettingBiggerBird · 08/08/2008 14:51

Ooh, that curly one looks good - I think this is it too, with someone using it dreamgenii. Could be good for stopping me rolling back.

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2008 15:08

wow so many countries in the olympics. we have 3 to follow in our household and so far none of them have come out. it is going the stroke order of the chinese characters so australia is apparently somewhere near the end and GB is in the middle, no idea where china is. i think GB is coming out soon.

mibbes · 08/08/2008 15:36

Just had MW appt and all is well , she found the HB really quickly this time and read out how many HB per min - so despite not wanting to know I thought I'd look at the old wive's tale about girl/boy based on HB - it said more than 140 is a girl and less is a boy - my reading was.... wait for it ... 140 !!! So am none the wiser

I have a wedge pillow under my bump and a normal pillow between legs - very comfy

jumpjockey · 08/08/2008 15:36

Hello all! Sorry for not being around for a while, have been jolly busy at work

Rosmerta - we've decided to have a doula and she's absolutely fab, H feels a lot happier about knowing there will be someone there who won't be as emotionally involved as him and can help keep me calm and relaxed and him as well. She's said it's absolutely not her intention to get 'in between' us, and if everything's going fine and he's doing a fab job she'll just stay in the background.

I've noticed my bump a lot more this week, if I bend over to pick something up it's definitely there which is quite an odd feeling. There's been a lot of kicking as well and (eeek) I've put on another kilo. So things are finally happening in baby jumpjockeyland!

zoejeanne · 08/08/2008 15:42

veggie I've just been reading about the olympics on the bbc site (why don't we get days off to watch these things, I love the opening ceremony!) and apparently the host nation always comes out last.

Great news about the mw appt mibbes jumpjockey my bump seems to be growing in spurts, 2 weeks ago I expanded and this week I actually feel smaller again, or maybe I'm just getting used to it before the next growth! Can't imagine being 8 mths PG with a huge bump to lug around

Have a good weekend all, signing off now

SummerLightning · 08/08/2008 15:48

My bump is growing this week too jj
It is not surprising as I have been super hungry this week and eating loads.
Think I should cut down a bit...or at least try and be more healthy. I told a friend what i ate on Monday and shocked even myself. It sounded like something from one of those diet shows where they put fat people on and say "Look this is what you ate in a week"!

Beans33 · 08/08/2008 16:16

Oh yes, re heartbeats, mibbes - the beast varied massively between 150 and 130 while she was measuring it, so I, too, am none the wiser on what it is! It also kept moving away from her probing!

I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm in the bath, I like to lie back and bring my leg to me to shave my legs... It's getting harder to do as the gut is in the way - I'm going to be a yeti by the time I give birth!

Beans33 · 08/08/2008 16:27

Ooh, know what you mean SL - told husband that I'd only eaten a small amount yesterday, then reeled off an enormous list of nosh. Bit embarrassed.

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2008 16:33

baby Veggie is right down low (around about where that acupunture needle that GBB was talking about would go) so i have been finding bending down to get things out of cupboards and shaving my legs quite difficult for a few weeks.

all the athletes are out, the chinese (yep they were last) had a little 9y.o earth quake survivor who had sung to his classmates while they were trapped in their school, walking along the flag bearer, so of course i was in tears.

Beans33 · 08/08/2008 16:41

Oh wow, Veggie, that sounds really moving. I don't think I could watch it without waterworks either!

I'm also with you in the low down baby stakes. It always kicks me along the top of my knicker line, so when I go to put DH's hand down to feel it, he gets very excited that he's going to get some action. Suffice to say, he's usually wrong, poor guy!

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2008 16:47

hehehe, boys there always in with some hope aren't they

Beans33 · 08/08/2008 16:48

they are, bless them.

JamInMyWellies · 08/08/2008 17:26

just dashing in help advice needed from anyone with experience of babies in neo natal units

katie3677 · 08/08/2008 17:28

Hi all, scan went fine and everything looks perfectly normal, so I can start to relax now. Had a lovely day with DH and DS and have just ordered a dishwasher to arrive on Monday which I am sadly excited about - I've never had one before and can't wait! Might save all the washing up over the weekend and fill it straightaway on Monday!
Have a great w/e everyone.

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2008 17:35

Jam sorry can't help much but will keep your DSIS in my thoughts, take care.

rosmerta · 08/08/2008 18:10

jam, have posted on your other thread though don't really have anything much more to add. I'll be thinking of all of you

chutneymary · 08/08/2008 19:27

hello all

Am reading but not posting much as I am just so knackered. Could sleep now. I fell asleep last night at aout 9, woke for supper at half past then went back to sleep. I can't be like this at 22 weeks as I'll be in a coma by 39.

Hope you are all well. Will try a proper post over the weekend.
