New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Beans33 · 07/08/2008 17:34

Aha - thanks guys! I'm only on this one, as no other has really interested me as much!

Beans33 · 07/08/2008 17:35

Off now, might go for a walk in this lovely weather. Was hoping to go with DH, but he's going to the gym at work instead. Sob.

Veggiemummy · 07/08/2008 17:57

OMG Jolly what a ridiculous thing to say when your pregnant.

i'm feeling a bit weepy (had been in a good mood after all the acupuncture talk) but just had a call from a midwife about my appointment tomorrow to tell me that they are cancelling it and my next one will be on the 29th when i'm 24 weeks which is fine though i was looking forward to tomorrow to hear the heartbeart etc but the main thing is they are restructuring the service so they are changing my midwife (who i really liked) and they are suspending home births for now. the midwife who called is fairly sure that they will be all sorted by december but i guess in my fragile hormonal missing DH state, well it just made me cry. I really liked my midwife in fact when i went to the original appointment i was going to just book in really then tell them that we would be looking at getting an independent midwife but she was so nice and made me feel quite confident in their service. This has really annoyed me, i know it probably sounds like nothing but to ring me at 5pm and tell me all this when i had an appointment at 9.20 tomorrow morning has really got me peaved, and well it has made me cry, damn hormones. I managed not to cry on the phone, but did let her know i was a little concerned about the homebirth bit.

Poor you JollyBear although nice to know am not alone. Am taking metoclopramide and cyclizine at the moment - and although better than nothing (a lot better) am still pretty sick so going to ask GP for alternatives. My MIL also making similarly helpful comments about the reserve I had which am trying not to be offended by.

LadyThompson · 07/08/2008 18:04

Nah, I don't think it sounds like nothing, Veggie, I think it sounds crummy. Keep up the pressure on 'em, I say (when you are feeling better, I mean)

Completely understandable to be upset Veggie. Changing midwife is complete pain. Similar thing just happened to us and I'm trying to get our first midwife (who I really liked having had no one I liked or knew last time) to be our independent. Any chance you could try that?

Veggiemummy · 07/08/2008 18:15

not sure Lal think i will meet this new one on the 29th but feel more like look at independent MW's again. I know when i tell DH he will be wanting to get straight on and contact an independent midwife, if we were in London we would have gone back to 'The Birth Center' again i am really missing their service now.

katie3677 · 07/08/2008 20:38

God you lot are chatty, I can't keep up. Have my 20 (or 22) week scan tomorrow at 10.20 so fingers crossed all is ok, although with the amount I'm being kicked by this little b*gger I think it must be ok!

rosmerta · 07/08/2008 20:45

sorry, I've had to skip most of the thread this afternoon, even just chatting about acupuncture makes me feel a bit queasy! I did unfortunately catch GBBs contribution [bleurgh]!

veggie sorry to hear about your mw situation, hopefully it will all be sorted before December.

theyoungvisiter · 07/08/2008 21:40

how annoying veggie - that's just the kind of thing that can really throw you when you've got your head around you how think things will be.

To put a positive spin on it though, at least the more midwives you see, I'm guessing the more likely you are to have one you know in labour?

At least that's what my team tells people! Perhaps that's just to justify why you never see the same person twice though

(Our system is that you are allocated to a team of 6 and you see them in rotation - so if your pg is relatively uncomplicated you will probably only see each midwife once, or at most twice, and then in labour they TRY to allocate someone from your team to cover you. If you're lucky. )

Veggiemummy · 07/08/2008 21:56

yeah i'm sure the lady i meet on the 29th will be fine, and i'm hoping that the home birth will be possible and i'm sure it will be fine. I think she just got me at a bad time. I'm going a bit stir crazy in the house (DS still not well finally ate today but couldn't keep his lunch and dinner down) and really teary, i just balled my eyes out when a character on a TV show i was watching had a baby.

I'm sure it will all be fine just 'that time of the month'.

Verso · 08/08/2008 05:33

Yes it's silly o'clock (DD woke up early.) Anyway... before I go back to bed, is anyone interested in another London meet-up? I'll post on the meet-up thread in a mo and we can post there instead if anyone's up for it. I was just thinking there's probably enough time to squeeze in one more before maternity leave and then a second one maybe in the first week or so that everyone's off, before the babies start arriving?

EffiePerine · 08/08/2008 07:00

yes to meet-up - what about September?

rosmerta · 08/08/2008 07:49

September sounds good to me

JamInMyWellies · 08/08/2008 08:20

September good for me.

zoejeanne · 08/08/2008 08:47

Good morning everyone, good luck to katie for your scan tomorrow and veggie I hope your midwife situation gets rectified and that DH comes home soon, a problem shared plus a hug is always a good start.

Talking of midwives, is anyone being seen by one team of midwives but then having the baby in a different hospital? I am (I'm actually under 4 teams of midwives at differnt times, even I'm confused, so don't ask me to explain) and I think the first contact I get with the midwives who deliver baby is when I dash into hospital screeching in pain. I'm a little nervous about this, not seeing a face a recognise, but those of you Mum's out there - do you care by that point, or is competance the only thing that matters?

Have a good day everyone

ZJ.x

EffiePerine · 08/08/2008 08:58

Zoe: last time I saw the community mws for antenatal and the hosp mws for labour. I really didn't care

this time all mws are organised by the hosp so I might recognise them, but tehre are a lot of them so it's unlikely

Verso · 08/08/2008 09:07

September's good for me, too! (I will now run away and leave you lot to arrange it as I'm ON HOLIDAY for the next week! ) I expect LOTS to read when I get back!!!

rosmerta · 08/08/2008 09:42

Sign up for meet up here

Beans33 · 08/08/2008 09:53

Veggie - so sorry about that. I saw MW yesterday and it was a different one and she was saying that I won't see her team in the hospital, so again it won't be someone I've ever met before.

Oh my gosh, I was in such a good mood when I got into work, but people are such numpties!

SummerLightning · 08/08/2008 09:56

Hello you natterboxes,
Am confused by all the chattering so am not gonna do a big response to all the discussions!

I assumed it was normal that you aren't likely to know the midwives in hospital? I like my midwife, but I assumed it would be unusual if she happened to be there for the birth? I am just keeping my fingers crossed that whoever I get is good!!

SummerLightning · 08/08/2008 09:57

(Though I assume a homebirth is a different matter and that you should know in advance who you're going to get?)

TheInvisibleHand · 08/08/2008 10:05

Veggie - sorry to hear that they are messing you around. On the other hand, you might get lucky. I don't think I saw the same midwife twice through my last pregnancy, but the one I had at the birth was definitely the nicest of the lot. But knowing some of the ones I saw, I can understand why you might want to go for an independent midwife, esp if you are after a homebirth

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2008 11:02

morning all thanks for your support and all that, this thread is so nice to be on.

It's not so much the MW that i am so worried about (though i do want someone who won't freak out if i go long again this time) the big concern i have is the homebirth i don't want t wait until 36 weeks to find that they will be continuing to suspend homebirths. Also being an ex NHS senior manager (hooray no more) i know what 'restructuring' and 'suspension' of service means, 'we don't have enough money so lets stop this service to save some money'.

Anyhoo, i think it is the fiesty emotional hormonal part of me that is talking but DH rang last night and he just wants to get an independent midwife and has wanted to from the beginning. He wasn't very happy about our very hurried scan and has been talking private again since then, so i have given some ladies in Nottingham a call and will see how it goes. If my mood is anything to go ny in this pregnancy this baby is going to be a fiesty one.

oh and i think DS has a UTI, so off to the GP this morning.

Beans start singing or something that will really annoy your workmates, or you could smile at them constantly they sound like that would not be able to handle that. What is that dork in front of you doing?

JollyBear · 08/08/2008 11:05

Hello all,

lal You might find that you have to see a consultant to be prescribed ondansatron unless your GP is super lovely! I found cyclzine worked for about 4 days and I just got progressively sicker again. Remember to be strong, explain just how awful you feel, and demand something better.

veggie Hope you are feeling a bit brighter today. It must be hard for you with your DS being poorly and your DH being away, no wonder you are feeling emotional.

It was a mistake to put the pack of chocolate digestives on the desk. I can't stop eating them . My willpower has left me!
