Beans33 · 07/08/2008 12:20

Thanks rosmerta.

Off to grab a bite to eat, then heading off in about an hour. roll on...

Olipop · 07/08/2008 12:31

Hello everyone.
Hope you are all well. Feeling pretty good myself at the moment. Managed to go swimming last night which was lovely. Although I am feeling a bit tired today! Roll on home time!

lal07 · 07/08/2008 12:46

Hello
Am still suffering from bad sickness (unbelievable - last time was hardly sick at all and not at all after 14 weeks). Am off work, have been in hospital on drip but am home now and taking anti-emetics (as well as mainlining gaviscon). Am going to try acupuncture tomorrow. Has anyone else tried it? Or have any other suggestions?

V excited to discover that there's a few of us in SE London...would love to come to next meet provided have stopped throwing up...

Beans33 · 07/08/2008 12:47

Hi Olipop - definitely keen to go home.

ooh, went to see Dark Knight last night - brilliant! I know it's wrong, but I found myself fancying Heath Ledger even though he's meant to be gross as The Joker!

Has anyone else seen it?

Beans33 · 07/08/2008 12:48

oh no, poor lal07 - sounds miserable. I stopped at 12 weeks this time, and even then wasn't too bad.

Poor you. and being on a drip must be hideous. Thinking of you. I haven't tried acupuncture, but sure it must help, or wouldn't be recommended.

lal07 · 07/08/2008 12:59

Thanks - am keeping fingers crossed. To be honest has got to stage where will try anything. Am normally complete glutton so at a loss without next meal to look forward to. Instead working out what I will do to next person who says "at least you won't put weight on"...

Veggiemummy · 07/08/2008 13:01

lal i haven't tried acupuncture for nausea and vomiting but i used in last pregnancy for carpal tunnel syndrome and it was a lifesaver, i literally couldn't lift anything including cups and utensils, but after each session of acupuncture my hands were usuable again and so much more comfortable i had a session a week for 2 weeks and then i had the baby which obviously cured the CTS. I would def recommend.

LadyThompson · 07/08/2008 13:05

Lal07, I used to be a cynical old twonk about acupuncture, until I saw the amazing results on my late DH who was living with chronic pain. It would take the pain away for a good 24 hours afterwards. Ok, so it wasn't longlasting but it still worked. So I would have it myself now if I had a bad back or something. Don't know about for sickness though. Worth a try. Two other people I know swear they conceived because of it, but I'm still pretty cynical about THAT.

As for you boob squeezers, I refrained from doing it on the 1751 to Charlbury last night. But I just had a quick go now. And.I.really.wish.I.hadn't. Sore nipples now and a ghastly sort of ooze.

Beans33 · 07/08/2008 13:15

oh no, LT - that sounds horrid! Poor you. Hope it goes away. I haven't squeezed mine as think it might sting.

DH had acupumcture for hayfever and it didn't work at all unfortunately. But I had it on my sciatic nerve some years ago and it was great.

theyoungvisiter · 07/08/2008 13:16

Daisy poor you with the SPD - one of my friends is suffering with it really badly at the moment, she can hardly walk poor thing, but she has only a few weeks to go so is gritting her teeth.

Further to veggiemummie's post about maternity sick leave being treated differently, you do have to be a bit careful about taking advantage of this as if you go off sick for pregnancy-related reasons in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy they can deduct this from your maternity leave or insist that your maternity leave starts early.

They can't (I don't think) do this for non-pregnancy related sickness, so some bosses and doctors will fudge it a bit and be vague about the exact causes of the sick leave - a colleague of mine was signed off with placenta praevia because she was in hospital, technically she should have lost 4 weeks of maternity leave but she smuggled it through as "hospitalised for tests" and it got treated as ordinary sick leave.

LadyThompson · 07/08/2008 13:17

Why oh why did I do it? I am an idiot! It is really sore! I only squeezed a tiny weeny bit!

mibbes · 07/08/2008 13:21

Beans I have MW appt tomorrow, so wil be interested to hear how yours goes, good luck
I also feel like a fraud for exactly the same reason - apart from a smallish bump I feel completely normal and am surprised when people make allowances/offer to help me.
lal07 poor you , MS at ths stage is so unfair. I really hope the acupuncture works for you.

mibbes · 07/08/2008 13:23

LOL LT think I'll just leave mine alone !

theyoungvisiter · 07/08/2008 13:25

I don't need to start squeezing my nipples to know how painful it is - I have DS chomping on them morning and evening. Bfing during pregnancy is PAINFUL!

LadyThompson · 07/08/2008 13:26

Yes, good luck Beans and Mibbes. I'm sure it's no comfort, Lal07, but I bet you haven't put much weight on with all this awful sickness. Let us know how the acupuncture goes, I'm really interested. And Daisydora, sorry to moan on about pesky sore leaking boob, totally self-inflicted, when you are possibly facing SPD.

Veggiemummy · 07/08/2008 13:30

oh LT you poor thing should we put a disclaimer on this thread.

TYV bloody cheek i bet they would do that, in that case Daisy get written up for sick leave until 28weeks then come back (on restricted duties) until 36 weeks then go off properly. Actually Daisy the occi health assessment would do you the world of good as they can excempt you from some duties and sort out you desk and chair.

Beans my DH gets horrendous hayfever in spring, to the point that he is taking once daily antihistamines twice a day and the spraying all sorts of stuff up his nose, he got so sick of it and went to a homeopath (the same one who has made this pregnancy a lot more comfortable for me now) and he had his first hayfever free spring this year the change was amazing. It meant a £35 consultation but that included all his 'drugs' and is way cheaper than all the stuff he was pumping into his body before. I would recommend it for your DH it is really astounding. The regime is working so well for so many people that they are doing trials on mixed pollens(one of the remedies most hayfever sufferers use) and it is going to be licensed for medical use soon so all the drug companies can make lots of money from it.

LadyThompson · 07/08/2008 13:31

YoungVis, I take my hat off to you, cos I'd have given him formula long ago. But I am a wimp. DP put a pea under the bed once to see if I'd feel it. I didn't feel it PER SE, but I did sleep badly that night. Coincidence? Maybe.....

OP posts:
theyoungvisiter · 07/08/2008 13:38

It's not really heroism on my part LT - mainly he won't take a bottle (not that he needs one now - he's 2) and also that he looooooves it so much, it's a cause of endless tears and stress if I try to cut it out.

I can stand 5 minutes of toecurling pain more easily than 30 minutes of tantrums and sobbing.

veggie - it's bloody cheek isn't it!? I couldn't believe it when my colleague told me - but it does ONLY apply in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy, before that you are fine to take sick leave and it can't affect your maternity leave.

zoejeanne · 07/08/2008 13:41

I might also have an example of conceiving after acupuncture - a friend of mine had it for a painful shoulder and at the same time was going through IVF for the first time - she was told the acupuncture would increase her chance of success - and first time she got a beautiful daughter. Not sure how much credit the acupuncture can take for that, but I wouldn't discredit it. Anyway, that's straying from the point of poor lal's sickness - but surely anything is worth a try?

So pleased I didn't squeeze my boob yesterday after all!

lal07 · 07/08/2008 13:55

Veggie Totally agree with miraculous effect of homeopathy - even though explanation makes absolutely no sense to me. Had terrible mastitis with DS and homeopathic remedy completely cured (where 5 different antibiotics failed). I sound like sick case. Apart from when pregnant or bf am normally quite well...

EffiePerine · 07/08/2008 14:03

ouch LadyT!

good on you for keeping it up TYV, I thought DS would throw a wobbly at me stopping but he;s been surprisingly chilled. Doesn't rule out him wanting to feed again once DC2 is here but hey I can live with that

Have booked checkup with the dentist - finally, been putting it off for ages - mw reminded me that it's somehting you should make sure is up to date. Also bought new toothbrishes as DS keeps nicking ours and chewing on them.

Lal: long-term morning sickeness sounds horrendous, guess anythign is worth a try at the moment! Are you on meds?

GettingBiggerBird · 07/08/2008 14:44

A friend of mine had great success with acupuncture pre-conception - she'd been having unprotected sex for years, no pregnancy, then got pregnant first time after treatment. Only problem was where the needle had to go.

I've had it a lot for increasing energy levels, sorting out back pain, it cleared bells palsy from my husband's face after a week. Who cares or knows why, if it works?!

Same with homeopathy - even less explicably. It seems to be particularly effective on my DD's relatively unpolluted system.

Veggiemummy · 07/08/2008 14:45

yeah lal i wish i had known my homeopath for last pregnancy (though didn't need it so much last time) would have helped with abscess and a bout of mastitis, at least to help with recovery and maybe reduce effects of antibiotics on DS. Have had a full MOT this time and DH is going to have a chat with her closer to the pregnancy for some stuff to give me during the labour. I was quite anxious last time and she thinks she can help if that comes up again.

I just remembered that when i was preg with DS the midwives had an acupuncturist they recommended in south London for pregnancy related stuff inc sickness. Where are you Lal have you already found someone?

JamInMyWellies · 07/08/2008 14:47

STEP AWAY FROM YOUR BOOBS LADIES.

seriously in a few months we will all be on here complaining about sore cracked nips best not to start it now.

LadyThompson · 07/08/2008 14:48

Jesus GBB, where did the needle have to go? Not...?
