New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

Pixsix - how rotten for you. Hope you're feeling better. Keep us posted but it sounds like it's just a blip.

Beans - as far as I know, treatment IS completely free but in order to get this you need to produce your Maternity Certificate. Have you been given this by your obstetrician or midwife or whatever?

I do have a maternity certificate, although it's actually a credit card-sized thing. But that's what I need, i think. Is that right?

Veggiemummy · 05/08/2008 12:27

sorry pixstix all i can offer is a listening ear if you needed to talk about it on here, please don't feel you are boring us.

Nice to know you are in good hands though and you heard the heartbeat that is good. the only advice i can give is what some people have said on here which is that sometimes if you at chocolate it makes the baby move not long after so i suggest you lay on the couch eating chocolate until the little monkey moves or you are full of chocolate which ever comes first

LadyThompson · 05/08/2008 12:33

Beans, I got given a sheet last week. It's about the size of a paperback book. It's called a MAT B1 and looking at it, I think it's more to do with maternity pay. Er...I don't know a lot about this stuff tbh. Phone the dentist before you go?

Veggiemummy · 05/08/2008 12:34

Beans well done on getting an appointment so quickly, i have gum disease and have to have a full scale and polish every 3 months while pregnant, the NHS dentists where always a nightmare in London (well that was Whitechapel) so i just went private for my care last time and this time, Hope they sort it out. The card is what you need and it's completely free at the NHS dentist.

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 12:55

Oooh - who recommended caffeine for a headache? Drinking an ice cold, full fat coke and it's already working wonders. Thank you. Blissssssssssssssssssss.

JezzaJ9 · 05/08/2008 12:55

Afternoon Everyone

Beans I got my form to get free treatment in my first MW visit at 7 weeks, you send it off and you get the Credit card thing that has an expiry date when the baby is one year old, you can then have free NHS treatment.

Lady T the MAT B1 is to prove to your employers you are actually pregnant I think.

JollyBear · 05/08/2008 13:06

reban, waitinggirl and pixstix I haven't any experience I'm afraid but I hope things work out OK for each of you.

abby I'm really pleased your scan went well! How does your DD feel about having a little brother or sister?

Hope the dentist goes OK beans. The headache might be referred pain from your tooth.

I shudder with sympathy for all those struggling with nits! I caught them for the first time ever at university .

I've got my scan next week - I'll be 21 weeks then. If that goes well then I can think about getting organised for when the baby comes. The nesting instinct is starting to kick in and I'm itching to start clearing stuff out! I have to either combine a study and nursery, or find somewhere else for to work from home in our tiny house .

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 13:08

gosh, you really have to feel your way with pregnancy, don't you? I wish there was some kind of handbook that told you what to expect at the beginning. Mind you, then less people would probably get pregnant!

I'm seeing midwife on 7th, then it's an appointment every 4 weeks and then every 2 until the end. seems like loads. Quite looking forward to it really!

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 13:11

JollyBear - I know what you mean. Our house is weenie and having to move into the sitting room to do any computer stuff etc. Downstairs our house consists of a sitting room and a kichen! Upstairs, two bedrooms and a bathroom. and that's it! spare room/nursery is weeny as well!

Could be interesting! DH and I both keen to get going on 2nd baby asap, if all goes well with this one (fingers crossed), but that means moving house next year, which is a terrifying prospect - particularly with housing market the way it is at the moment. I guess if you're selling in a rubbish market, you're buying in a rubbish market, so hopefully won't knacker us too much.

theyoungvisiter · 05/08/2008 13:14

oh good effie! Pleased to hear your GTT was fine, hooray.

Re maternity exemption certificate, you used to have to fill out a form and send off for it when you got your MatB1 - at least you did last time I got pregnant. This time however my credit card thingie just arrived in the post.

Speak to your midwife and ask what you should do if yours hasn't arrived - it may vary from PCT to PCT whether they send it automatically or not.

zoejeanne · 05/08/2008 13:31

I just got my exemption card last week - the midwife gave me a form (when I booked in - pg brain made me forget about it!), which she'd signed and I just added my name, address and NHS number (I think) and posted it off.

For those of you with MAT B1 forms - do they just arrive, or do I have to get it from the doctors or the midwife?

beans I'd get to a dentist ASAP, I used to suffer with inflamed wisdom teeth and they were the worst pain ever (I'm sure even childbirth won't be that bad!!) and I couldn't function without high strength pain killers, which you won't be able to take. I did find sucking ice cubes helped to numb it, so a cold drink is a good idea. The dentist suggested to me to gargle on boiled (but cooled obviously) salty water - tastes foul, but cleans any infection. Hope you feel better soon

pixsix hope the bleeding stops soon and everything is ok

Z.x

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 13:38

Thanks ZJ. I will give ice a go tonight.

Going to see Dark Knight tomorrow - 2.5 hours - hope my bladder holds up! can't wait, though. Has anyone seen it? I've heard it's really dark and brilliant.

JezzaJ9 · 05/08/2008 13:40

Hi ZJ

Got my form at my last MW visit she filled it in and gave it to me.

I will hand it in to work at some point but its quite obvious that I am pregnant!

Veggiemummy · 05/08/2008 13:44

Beans i haven't had a headache since starting back with 1 coffee a day (ok sometimes 2) but if you tooth is hurting make sure you give your mouth a rinse after having something with lots of sugar as may make your tooth hurt more, and that would be bad.

theyoungvisiter · 05/08/2008 13:53

Beans re cinema you might find it sends the baby crazy! I had to stop going for a while when I was pg with DS as he used to go bonkers, wriggling around loads so that I could barely sit still.

I think it was the noise - you know the way they use those huge speakers that kind of shake the floor - and the slightly uncomfortable seats that aren't really designed with pg tummies in mind.

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 13:56

Oh yes, know exactly what you mean, YV. Probably will go mad - particularly as there are loads of explosions etc.

Do you know, my Mum is offering to buy us some stuff for when the baby comes - just the small stuff (layette? never heard of it before). DH is going mental because he thinks he'll be excluded and wants to buy everything himself. Very lovely of him, but I think we should take every freebie we can get - money is going to be pouring out of us in the months to come and if someone'e offering to pay for stuff for us, think we'd be mad to turn it down. he's a stubborn bugger, though.

rosmerta · 05/08/2008 14:03

reban, waitinggirl and pixsix sorry things don't seem to be straightforward but fingers crossed everything's ok.

beans hope your toothache goes away soon, at least the caffeine helped the headache!

effie glad the gtt results are ok!

I'm not in a great mood today, dh decided to have a moan at me right before he left for work which meant I couldn't respond & has just left me feeling shit all day

theyoungvisiter · 05/08/2008 14:05

god I agree! Accept all help offered.

Me and DH did have a couple of things we wanted to buy/choose ourselves and we told relatives to lay off those, but accepted everything else!

You could suggest to your mum that she buys you 3 month plus stuff - you tend to be inundated with stuff for newborns from other sources, so you might find you are much harder up later on. I bet your DH will have got sick of shopping by then!

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 14:07

Oh rosmerta, I hate that feeling. Poor you. I'm feeling a bit peeved that DH is being such a child about people getting stuff for us. Now I feel a bit stuck in the middle as will have to tell mum that we don't need her very generous offer.

Chin up - I know exactly what you mean. Makes me feel all teary!

theyoungvisiter · 05/08/2008 14:10

oh rosmerta grrr!!

I know exactly what you mean. DH made a cross throwaway comment before bedtime the other night - I decided not to start an argument before bed and probably wake DS up (he was sleeping in the same room as we were staying with friends).

But then DH promptly fell asleep, while I lay and stewed over all the marvellous responses I would make in the morning. Needless to say when I mentioned his remark in the morning all ready to start up the argument and demolish his claims, he barely remembered saying it and I'd forgotten all my wonderful ripostes. Tch.

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 14:18

Oh no, hate that sort of thing. and DH can always go to sleep on an argument and I can't at all. Lie awake getting my knickers more and more in a twist.

Hormones are kicking in - had a total wobbly the other night because DH took his clean pile of washing upstairs and left mine downstairs - AGAIN. This despite about 6 months ago him having a go at me and calling me selfish because I once only took my stuff up. And I would say I put the washing on, hang it up and take it upstairs 85% of the time. God, I went off the scale and wouldn't speak to him. Especially as he then started laughing at me. I actually felt a moment of pure rage - it scared me. Partly because I knew it was pathetic to get so angry, but I couldn't help it!

rosmerta · 05/08/2008 14:18

thanks for the support! I've actually written him a letter & put it on the fridge as I don't think I'll be able to talk about it reasonably when he gets home

beans agree that you could suggest to your mum to either buy slightly older stuff or get vouchers so that you can get a few bits later. The other thing is people will buy you toys/clothes anyway without asking! We go so much bought for us we were drowning in stuff!

rosmerta · 05/08/2008 14:23

That's the other thing, why can men just say something & think that's it, its all over now & go back to normal? grrr

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 14:27

Yes! how do they do that? I get completely bogged down in rage and weep like some prima donna. and they haven't thought twice about it!
