New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

oh waiting i'm really sorry but i am but as i said before my SIL felt nothing the whole way through and i spoke to a friend on the weekend who didn't feel anything until 24weeks, i guess that is not much help because it would be better to actually speak to someone about it. Did you say your scan is this weds? If your concerned and it's getting you stressed you could give your midwife a call if she is understanding she will at least have a chat to you about it or organize a quick visit with her for reassurance.

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 09:28

Jam your little 14 month old looks gorgeous! I love them at that age!

I have a list that my maternity nurse sent me of what to get and some of them have optional written after them - I'm ignoring those ones!!

Waitinggirl - how many weeks are you now? One of my best mates, who is due this weekend, didn't feel anything til 23 weeks and all is going well with her.

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 09:30

Yes, I agree with Veggie - definitely call your midwife, or go and see your GP to get the heartbeat listened to. I did that and it gave me such peace of mind. although took a while to locate the heartbeat as mine was racing so fast due to terror!

abbymeg · 05/08/2008 09:34

zoejeanne I'm in Leeds now; moved here 2 years ago. Do you live in Scarborough?

Veggiemummy I'm going to St James hospital in Leeds. My MW told me to take DH with me to consultant appointment in case I have to argue about having a CS! So, don't know what to expect!

Thanks to Verso too; I'm hoping that I get a yes so that I can relax and get on with it!

Anyway, c-section is the least of my worries today . DH and DD were both up in the night poorly, and now I've been rushing to the toilet this morning (apologies to anyone eating and reading this ). We all ate the same food. So, rang NHS direct for some reassurance; have to go to GP this morning. Am having a bit of a panic now as I've been so careful about what I've been eating; I don't eat meat and I've had nothing off the naughty list. At least baby is giving me a boot this morning in protest, so it's okay at the moment.

reban · 05/08/2008 09:41

Hi all had my 20 week scan yesterday and need some reassurance if anyone has had similar results.
Everything was fine, all the organs, measurements etc that they check, except the head measurements. They are about 2 weeks too small. If all the measurements were a little behind i would understand, or at least be able to research, but i dont understand the implications (if there are any) of the head being slightly small. They have given me another scan appointment in 4 weeks to give the measurements a chance to catch up, and if they have not i will see the consultant then. I have tried to phone my midwife this morning but she is on holiday, and the second midwife is not in until thursday. Does anyone know what these measurements could mean?

Veggiemummy · 05/08/2008 10:05

they don't sound eceptionally small, my ds always had small head measurements and when he was born his head circ was on the 9th centile while everything else was on the 75th & 90th. Do you know no one ever pointed it out or were bothered about it. It was only that i was checking all the measurements myself that i saw it. I was a little concerned when he was born but my mum pointed out that we all have small heads in my family (we are all normal intelligence by the way) it might be worth having a look at some of yours or your husbands baby photos. My son didnt look weird like he had a small head when he was born but he looked in proportion which is unusual i guess as most babies heads are large in proportion to their body. Not sure if this helps, but my boy looks fine now and is usually at the right developmental level or even a little ahead.

Veggiemummy · 05/08/2008 10:16

abby you poor thing you've obviously just picked up a bug that will pass, you won't be giving anything to the baby but you need to keep yourself hydrated get yourself some dioralyte from the chemist (or get GP to prescribe so you dont have to pay for it) at worst if they are worried about you dehydrating which is basically a big risk for the baby they may admit you for fluids if you can't keep anything hydrating down yourself.

as far as consultant goes i find it rediculous that they are going to give you hassle as my friend has had the same argument with her doctors but hers is the opposite as she wants a natural birth. I would say just first off make sure it is the consultant you are speaking to sometimes they get their Registrars to see their patients, and just stick to your guns you have very good reasons for wanting a CS and don't let them make you feel bad about your decision just tell them thats what you want your reasons and thats it. If your MW is supportive i can't believe this is an issue, it really makes me mad that women can be dictated to about how they birth their babies. You know the really cheeky thing 70% of the female doctors i know who have had children have had elective cesarean, and it's not even like yours is really elective it's sounds like you don' really ave a choice if you last experience was really bad.

oh i'm sorry i'm a bit fiesty again this morning i think it's the hormones, also half of my old job was argueing with doctors on behalf of my patients, some are great but others are a nightmare.

reban · 05/08/2008 10:22

thanks veggie i think im just going to be exceptionally worried for next 4 weeks no matter what. This has been a very worring pregnancy from the start and ive had more hospital appts and scans for this one then my other 3 children put together. None of my other children had small heads, if anything they were all large on all their measurements and neither me or my dp are small. Thanks for your response x

Flumpybumpy · 05/08/2008 10:30

Lady T I am due on 1/12/08 but due to having had 2 previous emergency sections this one has to be an elective. The 19th Nov is exactly 38wks, although they did give a choice of any day that week.

It was so weird choosing a day for your baby to be born, but at least I can arrange childcare etc.... with a bit of notice.

waitinggirl · 05/08/2008 10:36

thanks - scan tomorrow - will wait until then. as i said before, i have no reason to worry, apart from my general paranoia.

reban - it does sound worrying, but then it also sounds normal, too. we are all different shapes and sizes - was at preggers yoga yesterday and a woman was 35 weeks and i swear my bump was bigger than hers - it takes all sorts. i know it's going to be a tough few weeks for you - good luck.

btw - for anyone doing the tara lee preggers yoga dvd - my yoga teacher told me not to do that lunge movement with the knee off the floor - it puts a lot of pressure on the pelvis and pelvic floor and can lead to spd - and apparently tara lee had spd herself. i love my yoga class and teacher - feel so wonderfully cleansed afterwards.

off to teach a 13 year old israeli girl to sound more english, because her grandma wants her to. i have no idea how to do this, but i'm being paid for it, so had better get my act together...

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 10:44

I really like my pregnancy yoga, because I know it's doing me good, but I have to admit, I find it very hard to relax completely. When she tells us to move in the way we want to, I go all British and stiff upper lip and spikey. Just tend to wave my arms around a bit jerkily and can't relax. Then I look around and everyone is really throwing themselves into it. I'm rubbish!

Plus with the chanting, I tend to just mouth along and pretend to be joining in. I feel like I'm in a pop video, miming!

EffiePerine · 05/08/2008 10:55

Just got the results of the GTT (finally) - all normal so I can stop worrying (and eat ice cream, yum)

youngvisiter: no word on having to go for another GTT, but haven't spoken with the mw yet...

EffiePerine · 05/08/2008 10:55

oh and re: exercise, I've started to get off the bus a few stops early so I have a brisk 20 min walk to work. Feel as if I should be more active while I can!

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 11:18

for exercise I'm trying to swim twice a week (although I hate having to change afterwards in sweaty damp uni-sex changing rooms!) and at least twice a week walk from Green Park to Victoria - only 20 mins, but it's a good walk. I'm not running as was advised not to by doctor b/c of previous miscarriage.

Was surprised to find myself envying joggers yesterday. I can't wait to get back to it afterwards. Although am thinking it'll probably be a few months before I do. Does anyone in Battersea know of any Pramercise classes of anything around us? I can do Battersea Park or Clapham common!

zoejeanne · 05/08/2008 11:25

I enjoy my yoga too, but can't relax very well either, my brain just likes to think and I'm a fidgeter, and when I thought I heard someone else snoring one week I got a fit of giggles and that was too much!! I really enjoy the poses and breathing though and sure they must do some good - and I sleep amazingly well afterwards (anyone know if there's baby yoga classes, available from birth? )

I'm going to aquanatal tonight, for the first time, so I hope I enjoy that too. I too am feeling that this could be my last chance to exercise!

Reban I don't know anything about measurements, but if it was serious I'm sure you'd need to be seen more than every 4 weeks.

Abbeymeg hope you feel better soon. I live on the Wolds, near Brid, so not too far from Scarborough - moved there 2 years ago when I got married and I love the area.

Z.x

Veggiemummy · 05/08/2008 11:25

oh thanks for that waitingi'm no quite sure which one you mean but i have only done the 40min session so far not the 70min one so assume it's on that one. I have finally found a preggers yoga group near me it's only about 10mins drive away. on a tuesday afternoon at 1pm will miss today as DH has loads of work to do before he leave for US tomorrow so didnt want to lump him with babysitting today. but will be nice to start with a group as well as stuff at home.

Beans i used to be the same with th chanting but went to a mother & baby yoga retreat when DS was 5months old and for the first time got right into it. Not just for the chanty part of it but the voice projection was kind of good for the breathing and focusing part of it.

Effie that is a good idea with the getting off the bus earlier.

EffiePerine · 05/08/2008 11:27

Beans: weirdly, I was thinking about running the other day as well! Must be the famed second trimester energy surge. Walking is great exercise for me, and I'm thinking of starting swimming again too, esp as my lcoal pool has finally reopened.

Some friends did a local buggy exercise class and liked it, but it seemed a bit regimented to me (and the instructor would tell you off if you missed a week because it was raining!). Classes aren't my thing though, I much prefer exercising on my own.

EffiePerine · 05/08/2008 11:29

Didn;t someone link to a site on pg yoga classes in London yonks back? Could they possibly do it again?

JamInMyWellies · 05/08/2008 11:38

Morning

I really need to crack on with some proper exercising I dont think walking the dog for 40mins a day really cuts it. Will find some yoga.

Reban & Waiting sorry you are having these worries, I find anyone who says well know you have reached such and such a point hasnt got a clue I dont think you stop worrying or obsessing right up until you give birth then a whole new set or worries begin.

Effie great news.

Abby hope you feel better soon.

Beans thankyou I too think he is gorgeous unfortunatley those blue eyes and curly blond hair mean he gets away with murder.

Am still totally knackered today really struggling to get up in the morning and by 6pm feel like I have been hit by a bus, am not used to feeling like this am normally quite energetic and dont sit down.

LadyThompson · 05/08/2008 11:50

Well, I walked to work again today, it's about three miles, but I know it isn't really super strenous exercise. I can't get on with yoga or pilates; I can't get the breathing right and I am far too impatient to learn but I do go to the gym a couple of times a week. Mind you, I only do 30-40 mins. It's not doing me any good anyway (outwardly), I'm still plump as a partridge.

Glad about the GTT Effie.

Waiting, good luck for your scan tomorrow. I do know of people who haven't felt anything until 23/4 weeks so I don't think you are alone.

Flumpy, the beginning of my week 38 is also 19th November but from what I have read I think they will hang on until week 39, so week beginning 24th. I will be following your progress closely! However, I have another scan next Tues to determine if I have this problem which can be indicated by a low level of a particular hormone in the 1st trimester. They can do this by checking the flow to the placenta. If I do have this problem it could mean very early delivery so who knows....

I go to this one - Tuesday 2nd Sept to Nov 25th course when term re-starts. It's £12 per class and always busy - really nice bunch of people too. I only got up the courage to chat to people in the last session of my last term - weedy!

pixsix · 05/08/2008 12:03

Hi Everyone,

abby, waiting and reban, I'm sorry to hear you are worried, I'm sorry I don't have any experience to share but i hope you get reassurance soon.

More worries here I'm afraid. I started bleeding yesterday afternoon and had to go to the Antenatal Day Unit. They couldn't find a reason for the bleed which slowed down pretty quickly and is now very light. They listened to the baby's heartbeat which was fine and checked that my cervix was closed which it is. The doctor said I should call on Thursday for the results of my swab to see if it's an infection and if it doesn't stop in a couple of days or gets heavier or goes red again I should go back.

The staff were absolutely lovely and did everything they could to take me seriously and reassure me that they were checking all possibilities (despite quite a lot of waiting around in the unit which I think is inevitable whenever you go to hospital) but I can't help worrying still. Perhaps I will feel better once the bleeding has stopped completely.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a small bleed at around this time (22 weeks and 1 day) and gone on to be fine?

I'm such a worrier and of course this morning I haven't felt the baby move much which is adding to my worries. Luckily I'm at home today so I can have a drink and a lie down and see if I can get the baby to kick reassuringly.

Sorry for the long and boring me post, thanks if you've read this far!

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 12:11

Hi pixsix - gosh, I'd be just as worried, although I have heard of friends having bleeding, but they've been ok, was just a blip. I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience, but hopefully the doctor's swab results will put your mind at rest. Fingers crossed for you.

PinguRocks · 05/08/2008 12:14

Waitinggirl - I'm 20 weeks and still haven't felt any movement! I'm trying not to worry about it too much although I also feel like I have the teeniest bump compared to everyone elses. Next scan is in a couple of weeks and fingers crossed it will show all to be well!

Hello to everyone else. Pregnancy brain has well and truly kicked in and I can't remember any of the other things I meant to say....sorry!

Beans33 · 05/08/2008 12:16

Anyone else got pumping headache today? I'm thinking it might be because of weather/atmosphere or something?

Also, wisdom tooth is hurting - think it might be inflamed. I've got an appointment with an NHS dentist next week - does anyone know if our free treatment is literally completely free?
