New thread, people, unless someone else has started one...

Re names, we didn't pick a name for ds until after he was born simply because we couldn't agree on one. Then dh said I like this name and I said ok!

This time around, once again we have a girl's name chosen but can't agree on a boys! I really like Aidan atm but dh not keen.

TheInvisibleHand · 01/08/2008 17:47

jenduck - I was in Brussels in 1996/7 but still go back for work and friends on and off since. I was working for a law firm their at the time, tagging along to Commission stage parties. Great fun in your 20s! I figure Brussels is so much more fun if you relax into it - its not as obviously glam as some European cities, but its really good at the nice things in life!

rosmerta - its not Barry White! Think cooler jazz type...

TheInvisibleHand · 01/08/2008 17:49

their !? Sorry, appalling grammar

SummerLightning · 01/08/2008 18:06

congrats beans and veggie on your scans, what a successful day!!

is it Miles Davis?? I really like the name Miles...
I have a boring last name too, and it does narrow down the choices. Basically type the full name into google and check that it's not an african dictator or a fat darts player, etc (some of the ones we have come up with!)

mibbes · 01/08/2008 18:13

Beans hurray for scan LOL at orthodontistry ! Have a great weekend
Ebs I got the iCandy Apple - iCandy Apple
AAhh bless Veggie welling up at lovely family moment ! Congrats on you wee baby boy
rosmerta I love Aidan !

Veggiemummy · 01/08/2008 18:25

just compared measurements for veggiebaby to DS at same gestation, this one is bigger by a little way, oh, in particular DS had a little head, was hoping the same for this one, as nice for birth.

oh i just had my dry skin on my feet sorted out by a podiatrist since having DS i have had really dry skin and my feet looked horrible, now they feel amazing.

reban · 01/08/2008 18:26

Hi all you have been busy today!
Rosmerta we had my daughters (eldest child) christening dress made from my mums wedding dress and its beautiful, it really is a good idea (we havn't quite made it down the aisle yet!) But it was a definately a dress so we bought the two boys outfits of their own, so they can be handed down to them individually.
My baby has been moving for a few weeks now and dp felt the movements for the first time this week, think this one is going to be another wriggler!
My scan is on monday and i still have not decided whether or not to find out the sex .. am becoming increasingly indecisive, which is not good as im not the most decisive at the best of times
Re names we generally choose a boys and a girls name before baby is born and im set in heather elizabeth or christian david, DP not 100% on heather as he has a thing against plant names (?) but if i persist enough he knows he will give in!

HollyMiranda · 01/08/2008 18:41

Hello everyone, only my second post on here and I have trouble catching up on all the conversations that have been going on throughout the day!

Exciting about the scans for Veggiemummy and Beans, glad they went well. We have ours next week so I'm hoping everything is fine. Not going to find out the sex.

As for names, we're finding it tough so far. Having to pick a boy's name and a girl's name means double the work too! Oh well, at least we have plenty of time still to work on those.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I'm off to stay with a friend in Nottingham for some girlie time!

theyoungvisiter · 01/08/2008 19:38

well I just had a very surprising sick up! I was getting quite smug as hadn't thrown up for a week or more and was really thinking it was all behind me. How odd.

It didn't half make the baby jump! It's jigging about all over the place now

Indith · 01/08/2008 20:56

Ok so I've sort of skimmed since you all ignored my summary request

Very sorry to read of the losses since I've been away, my heart goes out to you.

I have a little wriggler tonight, kind of nice but would like some peace I'm shattered! This house moving thing is rubbish and I've done far too much of that heavy lifting thing you are not supposed to do. Ooops.

There is far to little time left until wedding. Argh! Dp currently on phone to BIL who is asking what he can get us, why do people do that? Loads of people have asked. We have a list for a reason! I know the list is boring but hey we live in a furnished, rented house, the things on there are what we need!

Sorry shall not rant about weddings

I want some form of gooey chocolate pudding but there is no such thing in the house.

mibbes · 01/08/2008 22:58

Indith you are a busy bee with house move, wedding and baby !!
abbymeg and hatty - PicknMix was looking for an update from you ladies on the symptom spotter thread

Veggiemummy · 01/08/2008 23:05

oh Indith you are one of the people i wanted to answer the other day but by the time i got through all the posts i forgot who i wanted to answer. What i was going to say to you was don't worry about a summary as we often come back around to the same things.

Hello as well HollyMiranda you will be up in my part of the country then. Nottingham is where i often meet up with some girlfriends for ladies nights out. It is actually a really great place to go out in.

Reban i think if you are not sure of finding out the sex then you shouldn't. I was always very definite that i wanted t know.

Have just gotten back from a nice evening with DH after i had my foot treatment (aaahhh so nice) we went to the cinema to see X-files, then dinner, it was so nice to get out. I think it is only about the 5th time we have been out since DS was born and that includes a couple of weddings. We had a friends niece babysit DS. We are used to London babysitting prices and are paying her £20 for 4 hours, she is a teenager. Our friends think that is a bit pricey and told us just to pay her a flat rate of £10 but that seemed a bit mean. What do you think?

Veggiemummy · 01/08/2008 23:07

Hi Mibbes i think i may have overdone it with Erin & her hubby the other day, that resistence training shattered me i was so tired today.

mibbes · 01/08/2008 23:38

hee hee Veggie ! I plan to do it at some point over the weekend - can't do the partner one as DP would wet himself laughing ! I have done Erin once and Tara once so far this week I find the tricep dips a killer !

Veggiemummy · 02/08/2008 00:19

Truthfully, it all hurts, my arms and legs were hurting after this weeks workout. I think next time i will get DH to go a bit easier on me i think he was thinking he should actually push against my me rather than just offer a bit of resistence. that would be fair enough if it was a few years ago when i was stronger but now is not the time to be building muscle.

hattyyellow · 02/08/2008 07:16

Morning girls,

Successful 20 week scan here yesterday as well - very relieved. Little monkey that is my baby was pulling out all the tricks though - was crouched on all fours when she tried to look at its sex, turned its back and then held its hand right over its heart when she was trying to look at the heart chambers!

So even though the nuchal scan said probably girl, no definite answer..

Only slight potential problem is a low lying placenta. Is only blocking the exit a little at the moment and consultant said she thought it would probably move - can't help worrying though! Searching mumsnet archives it seems some move/some don't leading to a section. Really don't want another section. Ah, well they will scan me at 32 weeks to see if it's budged - so I'll have to hold on til then.

Anyone got any experience of this?

Have got a rotten bug from my DD's, lots of coughing and sore throats - so will go and beg the chemist for something safe to take this morning.

DH has been a sweetheart and booked me in for haircut and pedicure so I'm really looking forward to that .

Waving to all.

hattyyellow · 02/08/2008 07:19

ps veggiemummy we pay our babysitters £20 for an evening - say 7.30 to 11.30/midnight so about five pounds an hour - and we are outside London. Hope thats some help!

hattyyellow · 02/08/2008 07:20

Mibbes I can't find the symptomspotters thread! I looked the other day and the title has either changed or its dropped down too much! Could you possibly link it for me? Would love to go and say hello.

EffiePerine · 02/08/2008 07:30

Hatty:a friend of me had this, but severely (it was completely covering her cervix). I think most move, so yu should be OK .

mibbes · 02/08/2008 08:42

Morning ladies !

hatty what a little monkey ! Great news that all is well with baby, have no experience of low lying placenta but when I was looking for info on anterior placenta I noticed lots of people said it moved up towards the end - fingers crossed for you. The thread is here spotters

JamInMyWellies · 02/08/2008 08:49

hatty I had major low lying placenta with Archie was all geared up for a csec date booked and everything then had a scan 2 days before and it had moved completely out of the way. I would imagine if it is only covering a little bit then dont worry. Things to look out for though are bleeding normally means nothing but if you are low lying you must go get it checked out. I bled several times in the last couple of months but it was always fine would have to go in and be monitored for a couple of hours and then sent home.

Verso · 02/08/2008 09:26

Morning, chatterboxes ladies!

I'm not going to even attempt a complete update as you lot are so prolific I don't know where to start! Looks like we were v lucky having our big bbq last weekend - it's pouring down here - and next week we're off to Center Parcs for the first time ever... typical! Mind you the whole point of booking was that we had a disastrous cottage holiday last year (my thread on it ended up on the front page of MN ) because it rained all week - at least there should be some things to keep us occupied at CP!

So - a v busy week this week and coming up as well as people at work have just realised I'm going on holiday so I now have back-to-back meetings ahead, which I normally avoid like the plague through judicious deletion .

Been v v v tired still. Any tips? Did manage this morning to persuade DH to take DD grocery shopping so I could have a rare lie-in. My brain is thanking me!

Veggiemummy · 02/08/2008 10:11

hatty i had a low lying placenta and just checked my notes it was just over the cervix and posterior and ended up by 35 weeks being anterior so definate potential to move out of the way. I think someone gave a really good analogy on here of your womb being like a ballloon and if you stuck something on it and blew it up the thing would move around to a high position but still kind of stay in the same place on the balloon. I think the other person explained it better. But as Jam said just let your MW know if you have any bleeding. does not mean anything bad just keep them informed. Statistic are with you as most sort themselves out.

Veggiemummy · 02/08/2008 11:41

hey i know this has been bought up before but is anyone else considering that baby hammock. Our DS is still happy in his cotbed sides off etc and it has a really good organic coconut husk mattress for him. i have read that these natures nest things can be used up to 12months which would be really handy as by then we may be going back home to Australia and it would slip easily next to my side of the bed but not take up all the room of a cot. so could leave DS in his bed and have something that takes up a little less space next to our bed for Veggiebaby. However we did have a friend whose baby didnt take to it but then she never liked sleeping fullstop so was thinking it may not have been the hammock.

Ebs26 · 02/08/2008 16:18

Hi Ladies,

Just taking a break from a mental day. Had the fright of my life this morning when I went to throw something in my outdoor bin... as I lifted the lid about a dozen huge maggets fell of the lid and onto the floor and I seriously freaked. No idea how they got in there but guessing the heat hasn't helped. My poor DH had to was and clean the whole garden and then help me spring clean my whole kitchen and downstairs in general - even down to cleaning windows and washing the curtains. I am a bit of a clean freak at the best of times so as you can imagine I turned into a real 'Monica'.

My kitchen cupboards, windows, curtains and work surfaces are now spotless and I'm going to start cooking lasagne (after discovering I had some lasagne sheets in the cupboard!)

As luck has it... it's started raining and my joy of clean windows will be short lived.

I know... I know... I'm a freak! Hope you're all well and don't mind me sharing my strange story with you
