Ooh Ebs & Turnip you both had some nasty surprises today.

Have had a quiet one and so far no cleaning to be done.

Big day tomorrow we are taking DS to the Thomas day out with 2 of his little friends.

rosmerta · 02/08/2008 21:48

hi all, I've been at a class observation today & am absolutely shattered. But couldn't go to bed without checking how everyone's doing first!

Hatty glad your scan went well!

ebs poor you, I've had to deal with maggots before as well, hate the buggers!

turnip poor you as well! Hope ds doesn't do it again!

Anyway, off to bed now. My turn to get up in the morning & dh is playing golf in the afternoon so need to get my rest to be able to play with ds!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 02/08/2008 22:34

Hi all - got loads of family around this weekend to celebrate DS's birthday (altho as we have cunningly turned the spare room into my office, we don't actually have to put any one up here!). Great to hear about all the scans, mine is a week on Monday, hopefully DH can make it to this one.

I see there's been a bit of name discussion - DS is Dominic so obv I think that is a lovely name. For this one I like Alexander, Verity for a girl (don't know if I could get that one past DH). Mind you he wasn't wild about Dominic. It was a late entry to the shortlist and I managed to get DH to agree to it 5 minutes after giving birth by blubbering 'he's Dominic, he's Dominic, isn't he?!', and who can refuse their DW at a time like that

kmp1 · 03/08/2008 11:33

Rosmerta,

I'm in Raynes Park / Wimbledon - how bout you?

kmp1 · 03/08/2008 11:43

HI Verso, and Ros who replied to me ages ago!! I've had internet troubles but back online now! I've just moved to the area but have seen sighns to Sutton on my way home from work Verso! Due 17 Dec - when / where hospital are you?

kmp1 · 03/08/2008 11:43

PS - Any meetups in future I'd love to come along!

Flumpybumpy · 03/08/2008 16:00

Saw the consultant on Friday and I have been given my C Section date for 19th November @ 13:30. How mad is that??? I can't imagine just walking calmly into the hospital and not having to keep stopping for the contractions.

Hi all. Just got back from a lovely holiday in France, so no chance to catch up on all the news. We had such a great time-including DD's 5th birthday while we were away. Reality bites today- back to piles of washing, discovery of more nits and miserable weather. Oh well.

Congratulations on all the scans so far. So do we have more boys or girls so far do we think from those that found out?

Hatty, I had a low-lying placenta at my 20 week scan with DS, but when I had a scan at 37 weeks (or around then cannot exactly remember) it had just moved out of the way enough for me to give birth naturally. As others have said, it is very common for it just to move.

majormoo · 03/08/2008 16:06

FB that is very civilised. And really not that far away at all.

Veggiemummy · 03/08/2008 18:32

Majormoo do your DC's have the dreaded nits, my DS has really thick hair, he just needs to be in the same room as a child with nits and he picks them up. I can't recommend Hedrin enough, however they make it with whatever chemicals it is thick and kills by suffocating the lice so the lice don't build up an immunity to it like all the other head lice shampoos. Also once you've gotten rid of them, apparently lavender oil or tea tree oil can prevent them coming back so you just pop a little in their hair every couple of weeks or if there is an infestation at school or nursery.

kmp are you on the list there is a list floating around on this thread go back to see if you can find the last one it also has due dates and where everyone is having their bubs.

Just had a big day out with Thomas the tank engine for DS's birthday hew had a couple of his friends come along and had a great time riding on the steam trains and doing general train stuff, it was actually quite a good day but we are all shattered now, will sleep well tonight.

kmp1 · 03/08/2008 19:18

Yep I'm on the list - it jsut doesn't have everyone's hospitals on there..... Just wondering if anyone else is at Queen Charlottes / London?

rosmerta · 03/08/2008 21:24

Kmp, I'm in Ealing/Brentford so a bit further out than you!

Majormoo, glad you had a good holiday

I made a curry for tea tonight but I think I did it too spicy, seem to be having a bit of heartburn!

missmama · 03/08/2008 23:17

Hi All
I haven't read up for a while, just off to catch up while I am having a cuppa before bed.
Bubs is getting quite wriggly but has only actually kicked once, DH was sat on the sofa tonight with his head on my bump talking to it, but no cooperation then. But having a lovely squirm now.

My scan is on Thursday so getting quite excited about it. Hoping that they can confirm for me that their will be no more bleeds, have not had one for 4 weeks now so feeling great about that. Would also like to find out the sex but its not a big priority, we didn't find out with the other two.

EffiePerine · 04/08/2008 08:47

Maggots, ugh! We've also had a nasty infestation of weevils or whatever theya re called - a cupbard of dry goods that I hadn't cleared out for, um, a while [blush} full of the things. Some of which had hatched into little mothy buggers . Nasty. So I spent my Sunday evening scrubbing and disinfecting (and we didn't get out dumplings with the stew I'd made)

Hope everyone had a good weekend, despite the torrential rain here. We went to a barbeque on Saturday - lots of comments along the lines of 'when are you due? Oh...' - I must look about 7 months gone!

hattyyellow · 04/08/2008 09:32

Cheers so much ladies for the placenta thoughts/experiences much appreciated.

Checking out the thread whilst eating my breakfast - glad I'd nearly finished with the chat about maggots/nits and poo!

Good luck to all those with scans still to come. I can't believe I am 20 weeks today - halfway through woohoo!

Beans33 · 04/08/2008 09:53

Hello!

Went to SIL's wedding on Saturday and it was a LOVELY day. I managed to squeeze myself into a non-maternity dress - hurray for empire line! It was so tight under my boobs though, that it dug in and made my tummy look doubly big!! People couldn't believe I was only 5 months pregnant and one person even told me I was going to be HUGE come 9 months. I nearly cried. Why don't people think before they speak?!!

Anyway, nearly lasted til the end, but then conked out at midnight. Feet were killing me and now my painful coccyx has made an unwelcome reappearance. Being on your feet all day isn't great! But itwa s a fantastic day and the bride looked amazing. Loved it! I even did some pretty energetic dancing (but only while the video cam was rolling - then I went floppy!)

Hhope everyone had a lovely weekend - looks like it was on and off with maggots and poos and the like.

Meantime, I'm just going to pop a pic of our scan on my profile - I think they probably all look about the same??!

Veggiemummy · 04/08/2008 10:13

Hooray for 20 weeks Hatty our change over day is the same i'm 21 weeks today.

Beans it is bizarre how people think it is fine to make large and big statements about pregnant women and think it wont be as annoying or even upsetting as if they said the same thing to a fat person. I saw your photos of your pregnant and i think you look lovely. If your in a lovely dress for the wedding and they really have to say something why not say you look nice in that dress. We had friends up on the weekend and it was lovely to see them but one of them (male) said 'wow your huge' what part of that am i going to appreciate. Luckily DH is lovely and says nice things.

wow i am so shattered today DS's birthday day out wore me out and he only had his 2 best friends along for the day. i think i need to sleep it off. Might be time for coffee.

Any thought on that Baby Hammock thing, it seems now we may be able to inherit one from the friend who didnt have any luck with it.

Beans33 · 04/08/2008 10:28

Thanks Veggie - you're right - why on earth don't people think before they speak? It is odd. I know so many pregnant people who have been upset by comments - some by people telling them they're very small - makes you worry about whether the baby is developing. Certainly on the Friday night before the wedding, a couple of people said my bump was very small, so it obviously varies enormously!

I'ma fraid I don't know anything about Baby Hammocks. We've been given a baby bjorn, which will be fine, I'm sure. If you're inheriting it for free, then I can't see any harm in giving it a go - at least you won't have spent the money, then find it doesn't work?

hattyyellow · 04/08/2008 10:33

Veggie missed your question about the baby hammock. Is it just a Oz/Kiwi thing? We spent a year in NZ when our girls were babes and some friends there bought one of those hammocks for their baby. He loved it - in fact it was the only place he would settle, they used to bring it with them when they came round and find a doorway to hang it from! They got slightly worried he'd only sleep in hammocks for the rest of his life - but he's in a bed now so it all worked out okay! The hammock seemed perfectly supportive - my husband and all his friends are physios and it passed their standards for back support etc.

So it worked brilliantly for them but I guess like everything like that it depends on the child..if you're getting it free or low cost, I'd definitely give it a go - you have to try everything in those early baby days don't you! I used sling wraps to carry one twin and that worked well, I think its the same rocking/soothing principle.

Veggiemummy · 04/08/2008 10:51

yeah we are going to offer some money for it as the cost about £164 new and theirs is hardly used but will be goo as we won't need to kick DS out of his bed (it converts back to a big cot) and it will fit beside our bed better and i think can be used longer than a moses basket.

Are you at work today Beans hope you got a good rest yesterday.

Veggiemummy · 04/08/2008 10:55

Thanks hatty sorry didn't see you post for some reason, DS wasn't too much of a problem settling but the drawcard for this is more it's size as it will fit beside our bed really well, and if it helps with settling that will be great.

Beans33 · 04/08/2008 11:04

Hi Veggie, yup back at work today indeed. Slept like a log last night as well, so feeling good today. What's going on, I'm usually such a miserable cow!

I've just got some work trousers through from Blooming Marvellous which were in the sale for £10! Feeling very smug. Hurray! they're a bit weird fit round the front, but for a tenner I don't really care. and they're really comfy.

TheInvisibleHand · 04/08/2008 11:26

Good guessing Summer Lightening!

Sounds like its been a busy weekend for everyone - although poor ebs/turniphead having to clean up maggots and poo!

We went to 1 yr old twins birthday party yesterday - was a little bit manic! DD is finally getting the hang of walking on her own, which is lovely, but hard to keep under control in all the chaos. Does make me wonder how its going to work when there are two...
