phew. i thought i was going crazy. how are you kiskidee? any more thought about the middle east move? the more debt we collect the more i think dubai might be the answer.

kiskidee · 01/08/2008 23:59

well dh has 2 possibilities up right now. one with the foreign office one with abu dhabi. it depends on what sort of package they eventually discuss. we have a good standard of living (work life balance and all that) at home and any package has to AD has to be attractive enough to have me give up my job as well in order to go to AD.

having said that, in the long run, I am sure I can find gainful employment out there in due time and it would also give me the chance to look after my 2 dds for a while before working.

The FO will contact dh again about renumeration and the company in AD have still to put a whole package on the table. It is moving slower than I thought it would but hey ho. We both have good (if v. busy) jobs and lives so if neither work out it isn't a loss.

hello all,can anyone give me their thoughts on sleeping arrangements please. we have two dogs and im worried they could knock over the moses basket in the lounge,so we ve been thinking about having a travel cot for the lounge and moses basket for our bedroom? would love to know what everyone else is doing as i dont want to buy anything that will be wasted.

kiskidee · 02/08/2008 08:37

you know how 'bouncy' your dogs are. I would think that dogs are smart enough to be wary of the new smells etc emanating from a cot so will initially be cautious. A close eye for a few days could teach your dogs to respect the moses basket like they do other objects in the house?

I would try without the travel cot initially, it is one more thing to spend money on and to take up space and give you work. We were given one by MIL. We used it once on holiday. then it went into the loft and then it went to the car boot sale.

eandz Thank you. We're not moving very far. We live north of Bridgend at the moment and plan to move to just west of Cardiff. My husband works there so it would mean going back to one car (yipee!) and walking to work/school, etc.
Moving house is hard at the best of times but doing it while I'm so pregnant probably isn't the best timing in th world!! Never mind...
Nice to be back!

eandz · 02/08/2008 12:33

kiskidee everything with regards to the middle east takes forever. but i'm sure you guys will choose the most convenient and best lifestyle possible when the choices are offered. You seem to have a good set up so far so it's not like you really need to go to AD. (secretly I'm kind of hoping nice people with kids the same age as mine (soon to be) move out there so I might be able to make use of the time I get stuck out there as I get stuck in the Middle east so friggin often).

Pitufina I agree, moving at anytime is stressful, and even more so while pregnant. I'm glad your not moving too far. Being able to walk to work in the mornings is always good, especially since it helps to cheer you up on the way there.

notsoslimnow We bought a snugglenest from ebay snugglenest we might use the carry cot of the pram we bought for a while, until we figure out what works best for us.

Speaking of dogs,I wish I had dogs, but lately while I've been walking in the park I've come across those pit bull terriers walking aimlessly through the park without leashes and I've gotten scared that one will eat my baby. (I'm soo irrational these days) so now I might want to get rid of our cameleon and buy a stokke explory...but it's soo expensive! oy.

blimey · 02/08/2008 12:48

They do elective c sections here at 39 weeks. I asked the consultant to have it at 40 weeks though and he was happy with this, although I had a growth scan yesterday and bay's est weight is 6 lbs at 32+4 so they may not want me to go that long. I have a history of big babies - DS1 was 12lbs 4oz.

anyone know anything about timing of c section and ease of breast feeding? I am going to do some research but thought I would ask our own experts here too! that is my main reason for wanting to leave csec as long as poss.

When they work out the timing though they should take into account people's own obstetric history. In my case there is so little chance of early labour but for those of you who went into labour earlier they ought to think about an earlier CS I would have thought.

My other news is the baby is breech - further rendering impossible any chance of a VBA2C. My GP, who is otherwise lovely, condidently told me the pres was cephalic and 3/5 engaged 3 days before scan which showed breech!

I am planning on going on hols for 2 weeks from 36-38 weeks which I am slightly worried about as I am trying to change hospitals so don't know how it will pan out with appts etc

It was our 10th wedding anniversary yesterday and we had a lovely dinner out. they did nice none alcoholic cocktails and we have both had a horrendous cough so DH wasn't up for drinking much either.

BTW horrendous cough means that I now have stress incontinence which is soooo not nice and rather depressing but at least motivates me to do pelvic floor exercises!!!

mustsleep · 02/08/2008 13:30

notsoslimnow when dd was born ds was three nearly four and really boisterous and was worried about him knocking the moses basket over so we got a rocker chair which she could be strappd into

this time we have got a swing we just kept the bed to upstairs as we have the cat and also just let her sleep in the chair as she was so colicky it was the only place she woud sleep

god i am so narky at the moment, really stressed about my ma coming through and trying to potty train dd, the bh are really painful and now i'm just not sleeping on a night

also worried that the upstairs building works won;t be finished for ds2 arrival and we stillhaven;t got a name

eandz · 02/08/2008 13:53

mustsleep can you use the swing with newborns? and which one is it? (i haven't even thought about it, but i know my parents had one for all of us and it came in really useful!).

Ponymum · 02/08/2008 13:56

Hi all. eandz I'm the other one who is moving house. It is finally booked now for 13 August, when I will be 36 weeks! I am trying to be super organised and have booked movers to include pack and unpack, and a handyman to assemble the new wardrobes, put up bookshelves, etc!

My news is we saw the consultant this week and we are now definitely going for elective c-section. Given all my problems it does seem the best decision overall - not what I planned of course, but then neither was adjusting to life in a wheelchair, etc! Date is 9 Sept which is 39w+3. Terrified of going in to labour when I am now not supposed to!

Today is our 5th anniversary! DH is wonderful. We had breakfast in bed and listened to the All Blacks beat the Aussies in Auckland. It might not sound romantic, but it was very special to us! On our wedding night we got back to the hotel and both admitted that we actually wanted to watch the rugby! (NZ vs Aus 5 years ago today). I guess that's one way of knowing you have married the right person!! And yes, we did get snuggly after that...

eandz · 02/08/2008 14:06

Ponymum oh, it was you who is moving! (sorry for thinking it was splish). I've got the memory of a goldfish these days.

Congratulations on your 10 years!

EandZ if i go to the ME I will deffo meetup with you when you are out there.

I nudged the Supervisor of Midwives yesterday about my home waterbirth and got a quick response affirming that a letter which she helped to draft is on its way to me and that yes the trust and maternity unit supports my home birth and should I have any difficulty near the time of delivery to contact a SoM, 24/7 on a mobile no. which she gave!

So there I go. I know I don't need their permission to have HB but it is nice to have it in writing that no one dare think I will leave my home to alleviate staff shortages.

So good news from me today.

Only wish someone can come tidy my house now.

eandz the swing is suitable from birth up until they can sit up so about 6 months ish

we got ours from toys r us dd loved her rocker so hopefully this one wil love the swing!! both my other have been colicky so am covering my bases (although or course this one will be a really easy baby!! )

it has a timer thing so you can set it going for 30 mins or an hour and it will turn itself off and plays music and even has lights etc!! plus you can manually swing it so if the baterries have run out there is no major panic

kel78 · 02/08/2008 14:34

Hello all, glad everyone seems ok, no more sudden anouncments yet then.

Not so slim now- I too have a dog, a very active choc labradour whos just turned two, I will just be constantly watching and not leave him by baby on own. Hes very gentle and is 3 year old daughters best freind they are always playing together but he is a bit hectic and he moults alot.

Pitufina- I too live in south wales about 25 mins from cardiff, hope everything sorts itself out with ur move, I bet it is really stressfull for you at this stage in ur pregnancy and with the worry of trying to move home.

thanks for reassurance about not being a mad woman going away for a night at 37 weeks. I was thinking too that it'll be fine and I can't put my life on hold but you know when you get that voice in your head telling you the opposite of what you really think? So I thought I'd just run it past you all. Now need to find somewhere to stay as we've left it a bit late.

Lol at you watching rugby on wedding night ponymum, that's the sort of thing me and dh would do too. Saw the end of the game this morn (wasn't up in time to see it all), looked like an exciting game. We're bug rugby league fans too and are determined that this baby isn't going to get in the way of us going to the last few games of the season! I want to take the baby with us to the last game on the 7th Sept.

Dh and his friend have gone to the football at Arsenal today so it feels like a week day with me having ds all to myself. I've promised him we'll go out for tea if he's good and he's currently having a nap (in his new bed which has been great so far). Think it'll be McDonalds as thats the nearest place and is quick (but sssshh don't tell anyone)

DebitheScot · 02/08/2008 15:28

LOL starlight we'll all make sure we don't give birth while you're away too!

eandz · 02/08/2008 15:40

haha, ponymum, sorry congrats on your five years wedding anniversary!

we're going to hit our 2nd on monday.

man, i can't believe i congratulated you on your 10 yrs when you said 5. i'm such an idiot.

starlight, don't YOU have your baby while your away!

mustsleep · 02/08/2008 16:30

ponymum congrats it's mine and dh's five year wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks too !! although i sharn;t imagine we'll be doing anything exciting

LittleConnie · 02/08/2008 17:06

Congrats on your 5 years ponymum are you and your man kiwis or just rugby lovers? dh is a sports-obsessed kiwi and is on a high after the hiding they dished out to the aussies this morning. I am a rugby/cricket/golf/football widow.

On the other hand I am on a high after getting back from mamas & papas having bought a cot, changing dresser & half of the gingerbread range . I can't wait to get the curtains up and start transforming the room into a proper nursery

Keep your legs crossed starlight!

izzybiz · 02/08/2008 17:57

Hi guys, hope everyone is having anice weekend.

We went to a wedding yesterday, was nice to get dressed up, the swollen feet aren't so nice though, very high heels at 33 weeks wasn't so good! Did spend most of the day sat down so also had a numb bum!!

Midwife phoned yesterday morning with results of GT test, all was normal so thats a weight off my mind.

Went and bought new PJs and nighte for hospital bag today, I want to put them on now!! Also bought Bob some newborn PJs and another blanket, oh and some tiny scratch mitts, so cute!

I'm starting to get annoyed when people tell me how huge I am! I find it quite rude, I am measuring exactly right for dates so
A couple of people yesterday did say it looked quite small so that made me happy!!

xxxx

mamamufin · 02/08/2008 19:10

Hi guys
Another weekend!
Happy wedding anniversary ponymum, hope youve had a great day.
Eandz I ve got the graco swing and used it with ds up to 14 months. I would position it in front of the cartoons whilst I got on with little jobs. Once he was too big for this I resorted to having a little stoller in my lounge. It did the job but looked awful. This time I have got the baby bjorn 1-2-3 bouncer (off ebay). Its fab. My ds aged 3 has taken to using it as his chair at the moment. Other bouncers do not go upto this weight range.
Ive had a lovely day out in york with a lovely lunch out. Night all x

kiskidee · 02/08/2008 20:00

Congrats on your fifth anniversary ponymum. EandZ you have reminded me that it is my 10th anniversary later this month with your funny mistake.

DD didn't get a nap today and had a late-ish evening last night. She came home from the park, had some yoghurt for tea (her choice) and fell asleep on my lap. Then about 10 secs before I was going to get up to put her in bed, she weed all over me. Nice. At least I didn't have a wet bed instead.

Just found out from my trainee doula that she is going away from the 13th - 15 of Sept and dh is going away for the 13th -14th, so everyone, send me vibes not to go into labour before on any of those dates. EEK!
