I've done it! I've got the baby stuff out of the loft and put a few things in a bag for hospital! There's a huge bag of 'girl' stuff and a small one of 'boy' things and then the neutral stuff is in the drawers. I don't like some of it but I feel the need to have things unpacked!

Sassafrass · 31/07/2008 22:11

Digitalgirl, do you have one of those wrist support thingies for the carpal tunnel. I bought one from boots and while it's pretty sweaty to have on at night, it has really helped. Had it on most of last night and the pain in the night and all of today has been a lot less.

Also have to say, 2 weeks and 3 days to go!!! I have got almost everything ready for the baby, ordered a widgey pillow today and tomorrow (fingers crossed) the car will be fixed and legal to drive.

potxola · 31/07/2008 22:14

Thank you I agree with you.

We are going to take him for a couple of hours play next week. He won't eat a thing because he is used to home cooking, Spanish home cooking, but I will make sure they have his rice cakes and give him milk. I have managed to potty train him, only in the potty. He has just learnt to do pipi in the loo, but he won't do it outside the house.
I suppose that won't be a problem, because they do have babies in the nursery.

Kel78They told me 38-39 w was the norm. They'll do mine at 38 w. because of my age and because my ds was 10lb and had to have an emergency one with him.

ipanemagirl · 31/07/2008 23:57

carrieon big empathy from me. I feel more frightened of this birth than the last one!
Just feel nervous as hell about it.....

mamamufin · 01/08/2008 08:34

Gosh I am terrified of the birth. I am not looking forward to all the stictches I needed down there last time. Im meeting a friend next week who is a supposed expert in hypno birthing. She has had 2 Hb with no pain relief ar stitches. I will report back. Im off to the midwife in half hour for my 34 week check. I am only 33 weeks but they counld only fit me in today or when I am 36 weeks. Ive only got a little bump still so will see how is measures. Bye for now xx

ipanemagirl · 01/08/2008 08:40

mamamuffin let me know how it goes today.

The stitches I had with ds were almost worse than the birth! I'm so scared about them. I told my obstetrician that this time I wanted to be sure that that whoever does them WAITS til the anaesthetic has actually taken effect before he/she starts the stitches.

My sis (former mw) says they want to start asap because the swelling makes post natal stitches some of the hardest to do really well.

potxola · 01/08/2008 09:48

jearund I forgot to say I am really happy you little one reacted so well to being in nursery for the whole day. What a star!

Have you all noticed we are all getting a bit nervous?
Becaroo yes, he is quite something, very "macho" and big for his age and huggable at the same time.

biglips · 01/08/2008 09:48

i cant breathe today!! as baby feel sooooo squashed up inside and also my nose is blocked too as got abit of hayfever atm

imoscarsmum · 01/08/2008 10:23

I am feeling big and tired today. Sitting at my office desk with flight socks on AND trainers in an attempt to reduce swollen ankles - I feel like I'll never have neat feet again.....

I'm quite scared of the birth too - fear of the unknown mostly as I don't know what contractions will feel like and how I'll cope. I listened to my new natal hypnotherapy cd last night for the first time. Twas strange - I didn't fall asleep but I did find myself daydreaming some strange things and the time flew by! Interestingly, for 1st timers it's reassuring to hear that 2nd timers don't say they are dreading the contractions etc but the after-stuff like stitches, or how to cope with 2 LOs.

More bizarrely, last night I dreamt that a nuclear bomb went off - mushroom cloud and everything and all i had time to do was grab hold of DP's hand. There must be a meaning in that somewhere (although also dreamt I was back with my ex-husband, and he was drunk as usual!).

digitalgirl glad to hear it's not just me - I too feel like our life has changed already - romantic dinner for two not quite the same when I can't share a good bottle of wine with DP.

eandz · 01/08/2008 10:44

i've always been terrified of the delivery bit. i just never saw myself much as a 'birther'. the closer i get, the more anxious i get towards how bad it's going to be even though i've been rationalizing that it can't be that bad, women do it all the time and several times over a lifetime...and there is pain relief and that i will have help...but still i freak out and break into cold sweats about it.

hopefully · 01/08/2008 10:46

I listened to my natal hypnotherapy CD yesterday too, but only the first (relaxation part) as I knew DP was going to come home half way through the second part and make me jump. Am planning on listening to it again tonight.

Am feeling so enormous, also can't particularly breathe...

jenpet · 01/08/2008 11:01

Hi everyone, I too am vast and fed up now. It's still sooo hot over here. Just some reassurance for you 1st timers - I was utterley terrified too first time around - it was the thought of giving birth that had always put me off wanting children before...but I'm sure you know what I'm about to say - it does hurt, but it's not like any other pain - you know it is for a (very good!) reason, you're excited and you know it's going to end. As others have said, the worst pain by far were the stitches after - because I had DS in the water I had only had gas & air, and I cannot describe how much that hurt (& all you want to do is cuddle DC!) but you deal with it, and you will all be fine I'm sure...I think everyone on this thread is so well prepared compared to many mums - we're all going to be fine! and in a couple of months it will all be over for us all!!!!

MelT76 · 01/08/2008 11:14

Morning all.Glad I'm not the only one feeling a little overwhelmed by the prospect of giving birth.

anyway, went for my first anti natal visit to the hospital last night. Not thrilling but when being show the birth pool (very big room) you could hear someone next door having heartbeat monitored and coughing!!! Also, when midwife was demonstrating the different position you could put the bed in, it hit the wall and almost pushed it thru! Not convinced I am going to feel comfortable with everyone being able to hear that clearly, or the posibility of the wall falling down!

potxola · 01/08/2008 11:54

Where can I buy the ARNICA 200 C tablets FROM?
I have decided to take the after the C-section after talkng to midwifes in Tommy, the pregancy line who have assured me it is really safe.
The problem is that normal health shops don't sell 200 C, ONLY 30C and 60C.
Any ideas? ANY GOOD INTERNET SHOPS?

hopefully · 01/08/2008 11:57

Potxola I've seen plenty of people on here recommend www.helios.co.uk. Have you tried there?

becaroo · 01/08/2008 12:06

Hi all, quick question re: braxton hicks contractions....anyone else getting them every 2 mins with occasional pain?

eandz · 01/08/2008 12:24

i was this morning and then had a giant bh during my morning poo. i didn't enjoy it at all.

MummyToOneForNow · 01/08/2008 12:29

Hmm... when I was getting braxton hicks every 2 mins about 20 months ago they weren't braxton hicks - I was in labour (took me a while to realise ). If they don't ease up might be worth calling a midwife.

mama2bee · 01/08/2008 12:34

I too am suffering with pains (lower back, right bum cheek) and while I wouldn't wish it on anyone else it's good to hear I'm not the only one! I'm thinking about going to see an osteopath next week who specialises in pregnancy aches and pains - has anyone else tried this? Only one more week of work to suffer through...

lollyheart · 01/08/2008 12:49

Hi all

i was getting bad bhs last night i thought i was going into labour but thankfully have stopped now.

Im really excited about the birth i cant wait to hold my baby i know its bloody painfull but as soon as your holding your baby the pain goes and you forget about it.

I got the letter ive been waiting for today about my maternity allowance i am entitled to it im so relived i thought i was going to have to find a job a couple of weeks after the birth now i can relax about it till the end of march so i feel that i can now say im on maternity leave

mamamufin · 01/08/2008 12:50

Hi guys

Gosh bec I would defo get them checked out if they are still there in an hour or so. Your pain sound like siatica Mama.
Well midwife appoitment went well. Bump measuring 31 cm at 33+ weeks. (However, I am sure I was bigger when I did it myself). Bloods taken, Bp ok, Gaviscon advanced ordered. The mw initially though I was breech but then decided the baby just has a "pert" bum!
Gosh I am so mad. I took my ds 3 to a wacky warehouse place to meet some friends and so He could have a run around. I planned to take him to macdonalds for a little treat afterwards. However, he has turned into a complete monster. He bit a little boy on the check . I was so apologitic to the poor mum and little boy and so angry with my son. I made him say sorry but felt that was no where near enough. I felt like crying. Anyway, I took my son straight home and now he is in his room bawling. I have explained that he must not do this and TBH he knows. I hope this isnt the way of things to come. I feel so sad, it was meant to be a lovely day.

hopefully · 01/08/2008 13:01

Poor you mamamuffin, that doesn't exactly sound like the fun day you were hoping for!

My bump keeps measuring small (not that you'd think it to look at it...) but midwife seems supremely unconcerned, so I suppose I should think myself lucky.

Am having a v surreal last day at work - there's only 3 of us in the office (usually 6+) so it's really quiet, and I have nothing uch to do, just piddly little things. Want to go home!

carrieon · 01/08/2008 13:16

Oh I'm getting myself in such a pickle today! And I'm typing this while keeping half an eye on the big black cloud looming over my washing line...and trying to think what I haven't packed for our weekend away. Weetabix is the only think I've thought of so far!

I'm trying to work out what it is about the birth that is worrying me. The worst bit last time was passing out in the pool and then how intensely everything happened after that. I just hope this time is slower and a bit more in control. I can remember that the pain was hideous, but yet I can't remember it iykwim...
For those fretting about stitches, just to reassure you mine were fine! It took 45mins, and on the occasions I felt something it was just a short sharp sensation and a quick puff on the g&a made it float away. The lovely lady would warn me if she was going to do one that might hurt so I took the g&a in anticipation. It really really was not worse than the birth! Infact I quite enjoyed 45 mins of lying there, slightly spaced on g&a, just watching dh hold dd. It was quite special in a way. Had I not needed stitches I would have headed straight to the bath and then started feeding, but that little break was quite refreshing!! I know everyone is different but if you find yourself in a stitches situation, don't necessarily think 'I've heard this is the worst bit' coz it might not be.
Incidentally, my friend had her stitches done by a male doc - how to people feel about this? I don't think I'd be happy, but also don't think I'd have the conviction to say no!

notcitrus · 01/08/2008 13:34

carrieon - have to admit I tend to prefer male docs for dealing with my female bits, because they haven't IME done the 'I know what it feels like' bit - they're very aware that they have to listen to what you say.

Thought I was having particularly bad BH this morning (with a flickering thought of AAhhh! I'm having real contractions) - but was just the effects of eating way too much cereal and fruit yesterday. I only had the second bowl of muesli because we'd run out of icecream and I had heartburn, couldn't be arsed to put on my velcro belt and go to the shop, and icecream or milk helps it a lot.

I suppose I should just get some Gaviscon but I bet it doesn't taste as good as Haagen-Dazs...

Sassafrass · 01/08/2008 13:43

Potxola, I was adviced to start taking the arnica a couple of days before the c-section.

I need to order some too, definately going to give it a try.
