I have some raspberry leaf tea but am not a fan of flavoured tea (couldn't get the tablets . So, I thought if I don't like it, I will make it, chill it and add loads of ice cubes. That way its like pop.

Little Connie We're off to the Cotswolds on Saturday for a week for a break before the baby arrives - any recommedations for things to do for hugely pregnant women who don't want to walk too far or good places to eat? Am hoping it will be a bit cooler otherwise I will just want to sit in the car with the air conditioning on

Sunshinemummy · 29/07/2008 09:19

Hi all. So last three days at work! Was hoping to be able to get away early today as we have our couples ante-natal workshop this evening, but someone's put a 16:00 meeting into my diary! Argh! Might try and get out of it.

Welcome to Flumpy. Re ante-natal classes - I've done NCT refresher this time around (it's my second baby) and have really enjoyed it. It's really enabled me to have the time to focus on this baby and pregnancy, plus the tutors have been really fantastic.

My first experience of NCT was very much of the you must not have pain relief, you must breast feed/use disposable nappies type. This time the tutors have focussed on what you can to do have an active birth, breastfeed etc, while also stressing that it's not always possible and talking about what might happen in these cases. It's been especially useful for allowing me to work through what happened last time (55 hour labour following induction, EMCS, then retained plancenta three weeks post-partum) and what the impact of that was. It's also allowed me to feel comfortable that my decision to have an elective CS this time round is the right one.

One other thing they're great for is that the couples one tonight will allow DP to really focus as well. It's so difficult, with everything else going on, to really consider the new baby and how that's going to change our family set up. I know he found classes useful for this reason last time.

Given all of that, they really aren't essesntial. You'll pick up everything you need to know so quickly and you'll soon be the world expert on sleeping, pooing, feeding, changing etc etc.

morning everyone

got woken soo many times last night between bh's, needing the loo and turning over plus we had a massive downpour last night

looks like the rain last night has just cleared the sky and it's going to get hot this afternoon again

i have counted back from my due date and got myself at 34 weeks plus 1 day so not sure where the hospital get there dates from but i suppose as long as i vaguely know where i am it doesn't matter too much

off to order the blinds for the conservatory today which should make iut a little more bearable in there during the day!!

jennylindinha · 29/07/2008 09:58

Morning all and welcome to flumpy! A rare treat for me today to be on here with no horrible work interruptions (how dare they) as I'm at home waiting for a midwife apt...

Becaroo just read your post about high amniotic fluid levels. I had a scan last Friday 'cos they wanted to check that the baby doesn't have signs of anaemia due to my rhesus antibodies. Anyway, the antibodies have apparently disappeared and the baby is fine, but she measured the fluid and said that I was had borderline polyhydramnios with an AFI of 21.5cm. Whatever you do, don't google it like I did - some rare scary things on there... From what I can gather, 26cm and over is definite polyhydramnios and there are many possible reasons for why there might be more fluid, diabetes in the mother for one. I searched on mumsnet and there are loads of stories of other mums who had this but everything was absoulutely fine!

They will probably just want to monitor things to see how they are going and as long as the baby is ok then hopefully it won't be a problem. I have to have another scan in 2 weeks.

Be warned though, I saw many mentions of waters breaking in a spectacular way so you might want to be aware of that!

Thank goodness it is cooler today - I have been struggling so much in the heat and even cycling wasn't as good as normal. Better than sitting on a sweaty bus though!

Yay! It's not so ruddy hot today, I'm feeling very relieved. Had another sleepless night in the heat so I'm hoping tonight will be a lot cooler so I can sleep.

eandz · 29/07/2008 11:09

i had another nightmare that my baby was eaten by a stray pit bull in the park. maybe it's all this heat?

is anyone else going to be using these?

has anyone used these?

LittleConnie · 29/07/2008 11:59

MummyToOneForNow you will have a brilliant time in the Cotswolds as most of the places to visit are pretty small and don't involve a huge amount of walking. You must must must go to Daylesford Organic Farm Shop - it is FANTASTIC. Great restaurant and so much else... you'll just have to see it for yourself. It's just outside the village of Daylesford which isn't very far from Stow-on-the-Wold. And if you feel like a real blow-out on the food front go to the Greenway just outside Cheltenham for some serious fine dining - to die for.

LittleConnie · 29/07/2008 12:01

If you're getting the impression that my holiday was basically about food and not much else, then you'd be right

becaroo · 29/07/2008 12:30

Well, I googled it and am now of course terrified

This pregnancy it has been one thing after another - ms, reflux, anaemia, back pain, liver problems and now this.....33 weeks this week...roll on september!

starlight God, I hope so!!!!

Great news about the birthing unit...sounds fab!

caribee · 29/07/2008 12:58

i am glad you are happy with Edgeware SL. Sounds like a happy compromise.

t'is a namechanger. trying it out for fit.

hopefully · 29/07/2008 12:58

Starlight that birthing centre sounds brilliant, like the perfect antidote to all the issues you've had so far!

Second the recommendation for Daylseford organic if anyone's near Stow - they do amazing brunch-type things (mostly egg based, but sure they could cook through to ensure safety!)

I am so manic in work this week. I am beginning to think I might have to do half a day on Monday to get everything done, as I really can't see it happening this week.

I thought you'd know who.

I still haven't received a reply to my last letter.

My regular postman seems to be on holiday and i am only wondering if the replacement is messing up my post.

tbh, I care but I don't care. I am seeing MW tomorrow and have decided in an oblique way to ask a question which someone after me has had offered: IE Have 2 midwives been named to attend my birth? One of whom will deffo be there? The woman who I recommended HB to at my hydrotherapy class has the same team of CMW's and she was promised the HB without a fuss plus told that 2 MWs would be named to deal with her HB. (I won't tell them that I know this though! Shall save it for ammo later on if I need it and then I can ask this woman to put it in writing for me.)

Will update you on the appt.

mustsleep · 29/07/2008 13:18

well i have got changed three times today already just feel all hot and minging

i have all the curtains closed and the doors and windows open and i'm still sweating cobs!!

think i am just going to have to bite the bullet and buy some morematernoty clothes esp if the weather keeps up like this! the tops i've got now don;t cover my bump and i only have two pairs of cambat trousers that are even vaguley comfy

carrieon · 29/07/2008 14:00

I can't believe every skip-hop bag except the one I want is on offer! I want the messenger bag because I like the flap over the top, and dimensions wise it doesn't hang as far from the handlebars which means its less likely to bash baby octopus on the head when its in the bottom of the phil&teds. I think its quite new to the range, which is prob why its not on offer but all the others are.

I totally mis-judged the weather AGAIN today and went out with jeans on. My friend has told me that whatever I first put on in the morning, I should then take off and put on clothes for the opposite type of weather, and then I'm more likely to be right!

My restless legs have started up again, they were bad for weeks earlier in pregnancy, and have come back with a vengeance and brought awful leg cramps with them. Back on the bananas and tonic water for me...

digitalgirl · 29/07/2008 14:23

Been a few days since I last posted on here I haven't had time to catch up on all the posts, you've all been busy .

I've heard great things about the Edgeware Birthing Centre starlight hope you get the birth you want there.

Last night was my last NCT class. Am looking forward to meeting up with the ladies over the next few weeks where we can just have a gossip and we're not all being bombarded with scary information! I must say, I enjoyed the classes and I definitely learnt a few things I hadn't picked up on in books or known to ask on here. It was good going through the 'what happens when you have a cs' because it's likely at least 2 of us in the class will end up having one.

The heat yesterday was absolutely unbearable. I was stuck at work in a stuffy office as my feet got bigger and bigger over the course of the day. They don't even deflate overnight anymore, despite DH's foot rubs, draping cold wet towels over them and raising them up on 3 pillows.

Glad it's cooled off today. Not quite cool enough to forego my daily icecream though

Slowly working our way through the last of the DIY. Ordered the blackout blind for the baby's room on Sunday. DH has one last coat of paint to do in there and then can hang all the pictures. Still need to get some shelves and a cot, but nearly there.

Have given up on getting the garden done. That'll have to be next year now I reckon. Money's got really tight now.

Am of those of you already on ML. I have 4 and half weeks of work left...it doesn't sound long in terms of waiting for a baby, but it sounds like ages in terms of waiting to put my feet up.

potxola · 29/07/2008 14:29

carrieon what about this one? It is not the latest model, that costs over £60.00, but this one is over £40.00 and it does have the flap over the top.

Sunshinemummy · 29/07/2008 15:27

Those of you who have bought Storksak Elizabeth - am so jealous, 'tis gorgeous. I've e-mailed DP and told him how much I like it as a big hint as he's told me I won't get quite the present I got last time - a beautiful Tiffany eternity ring!

caribee · 29/07/2008 15:45

Digitalgirl, if you are someone who normally watches your salt intake then don't. In the heat everyone needs a more salt in their diet just because of you sweating more. Plus I have heard that in pg, our tastebuds want more salt and it is a good thing to provide it.

I only found this out a few wks ago so i don't know if it is true. This pg however, I have had just the tiniest swelling around my ankles, hardly noticeable but with my first, it was so bad it was debilitating.

lollipopmother · 29/07/2008 16:19

I have only managed to get to one of the parentcraft classes as I turned up for the second one but I think it must've been cancelled as no one was there but it said it was on on the board outside. It's a shame because it was the one where they were doing interventions and breastfeeding but never mind. It sounds like the NCT classes do a lot more than the parentcraft here, my parentcraft was supposed to be just two classes of 2hrs long and certainly didn't do anything about nappies or anything like that.
