Am sitting here on the laptop cos DH has gone out to a works do and the power keeps going off and coming back on - every time it does it I jump out of my skin and get a kick in the ribs from a very surprised bump!

I know its silly, but I cant settle enough to go to bed now! Have eaten a double decker and two mini GU chocolate brownies (stress related munchies).

So ignore me if I ramble on but I really need to keep myself busy till he comes home. (Yes I know I'm being pathetic!)

Would be interested in finding out more about washables too. Used eco-disposables for the other two but it worked out sooo expensive and am not entirely convinced they're as eco as they make out.

Have been doing a lot of thinking about changes we need to make and equipment we will need to buy.

Have agonised on whether to get rid of our beloved vw camper and replace both it and our Toyota Corolla Coupe with one more recent camper - but despite it costing a fortune in repairs this year (which we could well do without at the moment) we just can't bring ourselves to do it.

Oooh! There goes the leccy again - its absolutely pitch black when it goes off! My poor nerves!

Been trying to look around at buggies and prams etc but can't seem to find one that does everything we need. I don't drive so need something small enough to travel on bus occasionally with, but we have 3 dogs and like to go walking so an off road/3 wheeler would be necessary for that. Had a Maclaren Techno XT that did both DS1 and DS2 but is well past its best now after 6 years and would really like to have bubs facing me if possible. Main problem is cash flow (thanks to said vw camper) I just couldn't justify spending hundreds of pounds on a pushchair for what will 'definitely' be our last baby.

As far as cots/cribs. Our bedroom is quite 'compact' (the boys got the biggest room to accommodate all their toys etc). This means there is not a lot of room next to my side of the bed. I'm not keen on moses baskets and would ideally like a bedside crib to make night feeds easier, but the cheapest I've been able to locate one is 178 pounds and given that we would then need to buy a cot within a few months, again I don't think I can justify the cost. Actually, I have seen a bedside crib for sale on ebay that looks good and has an extra panel that you can hook over the side of a wooden framed bed to prevent the gap that is a problem with a lot of bedside cots/cribs, but the mattress looks very inadequate and as it has an additional mini mattress that fits onto the extra panel I don't think I could suitablly replace the mattress.

Oh well, ignore me, just the ramblings of an over-chocolated, slightly nervous overtired nutter! Electric appears to be staying on for the moment and DH is due home any time soon so am starting to relax a bit. Don't know what I'm being such a big girl's blouse about, I've got three dogs stretched out across my feet fgs!

Better go and check on DS1 who went to bed with a sick bowl after suddenly turning green and throwing up all over the toilet floor for the second time this week (typical male - missed the toilet completely)! Poor little thing it seemed to come on really quickly, but then he seemed to feel a lot better afterwards and requested a piece of toast. Odd that its happened twice in a week but he has been perfectly all right in between.

moosemama · 10/08/2008 00:17

Sorry folks, just read all that back - what a huge post! Like I said ignore me - just trying to keep myself occupied!

tinkisagracefulshamu · 10/08/2008 09:35

morning

this will be our last as well

i am the same mm hate being in the house on my own dh was @ a wedding last night my mum stayed till late though which wasnt too bad.

rrrayray · 10/08/2008 09:45

Just wondered if anyone anyone else has had anything like this.....

i keep having like Phases of the weirdest feeling spreading over me.

The closest feeling i can think of is like Deja Va.... Its a weird feeling i can feel it coming just before it happens, its like an out of body experience for a minute, i can feel it happening, i can still function, like if i'm walking i can walk, although i've never been mid-conversation so i don't know what would happen if i was mid-conversation.

Its just a weird feeling, like a fuzzy feeling passing over me......

Probarly describing it awfully, but i dont know how to.... anyway i'd never felt it before i was pregnant.... i dont know WHAT it is... its not concerning or anything, its just rather weird.

tinkisagracefulshamu · 10/08/2008 12:55

oh sounds interesting ray the joys of being pregnant

largeginandtonic · 10/08/2008 17:52

Posessed Ray?

Hulloooo all. Have been plagued by bugs in the gin household and am fed up to the back teeth of poo and vom. Only a cold lurks now...

Am counting the days till dh returns, he is home Thursday!

I have a manic week to pass the time though The 3 year old has his boosters tom for school, 2 lots of jabs for him and the baby has his MMR at the same time. Tuesday quiet, wednesday i have the midwife, always fun with 6 children trailing in with you. I have to then clean the house for Thursday. DD has an operation thursday to have 7 teeth out. She has Turners Syndrome and very weak teeth, they have been giving her grief since they came through. I will be hom in the evening and dh should be back!

My god i am handing them all over and going to bed!

Poor dd is nervous, they have to knock her out with a G/A as she may react badly to a local in the chair. My mil and fil are coming to help for the day.

The kids are all asking for tea, i have no idea what to do! Am all out of kitchen imagination, poor things.

moosemama · 10/08/2008 18:21

Well, moving swiftly on from the embarassing ramblings of an overtired women who had eaten far too much sugar.

I did indeed survive the night with DH arriving home just after I logged off and the electricity decided to stay on from that point onwards.

Anyway, decided to take a long bubble bath this afternoon while DH and the boys t-cut and waxed the camper. While I was in there I was excited to'see' a kick for the first time this pregnancy. Kicked the little pool of water right out of my bellybutton.

It made me finally feel as it I may be able to start connecting with the baby at long last.

lgt sorry to hear about the virus situation, think we may have had a lucky escape with DS1 only throwing up twice on separate days and seeming ok in between.

Incidentally, your post has just reminded me that DS2 hasn't been called for his boosters. Same happened with DS1, he'd been at school full time for almost a year when they finally got round to it. Think I will ring them and enquire on Monday.

LenniEd · 10/08/2008 19:10

DD is also late for her latest round of jabs - will have to call them as well. Think they may have called for her while we were away on holiday so no doubt I'll get the third degree on why we didn't turn up.

LG&T - I don't know how you do it. I hope DD goes on ok with her teeth, are they her first ones or her grown up ones?

On nappies - I have never used tots bots, but they are really popular so they must be good really. I have used bambineos when DD was tiny (were good but the velcro didn't wash well), swaddlebees organic velour (love them - but not everyone does), thirsties )also love them, but only last a couple of hours)...

OP posts:
LenniEd · 10/08/2008 19:30

... Sorry DD was asking to go to bed - couldn't pass her up on that offer - Motherease organic sandies (prob my favourites after the swaddlebees and good for both day and night - boosted at night). These are really popular so think they must fit most babies well where as swaddlebees don't always fit. Also for night I use minkis which I like but take forever to dry, ellas house bumhuggers which are better for drying but I occasionally have issues with leaks and kissaluvs which are fab for day and night. There are loads of others that are popular too and you are best to get a mixture and see what you get on with - quite a few of the nappy websites do mixed starter/trial packs and if you contact your council you might get a discount voucher or a free trial pack to try out and return.

I have also used a few pockets but have never got on with them and sold them soon after I bought them. You don't have to spend a lot to get started, you can get secondhand quite easily in newborn sizes and quite a few people will sell on what they don't like with the nappies barely used.

OP posts:
LenniEd · 10/08/2008 19:32

MissJackson I just throw mine in with the normal wash. You can get nice coloured/patterned wraps too! But no, you can't see them under the clothes - which is whY dd spends a lot of time running round with no trousers on so she can show off her cute nappies!

OP posts:
MsSparkle · 10/08/2008 19:37

This will be my last pregnancy too. I know in 2 years time i'll be sad at the fact that i'll never have a baby again But there is no way i'll have 3. Dp is 46 so 3 is out of the question!

Nappies, well i remember when i was having dd i was certain i would use re-usable ones and even bought some. Then when the baby came it was a different story and reality was disposable nappies. I guess all i can say is to keep an open mind!

chefswife · 10/08/2008 20:07

this is my first baby... i'm pretty sure there will be at three in total when we are done even though we are both now 35. DH comes from a large family. there was only 3 kids in mine... not so bad considering that i am 6 and 7 years older than my sisters.

i've decided that when at home i'm going the washable diaper route and when we go out, eco-friendly disposables. i'm going to try this potty training thing at 3 months and see how i fair. my friend did it and her little boy was trained completely by one year... no diapers at all after that. amazing. she said it's a lot of work but worth it.
check it out here
www.timl.com/tt

i created a huge laugh amongst staff and customers in an alternative baby store the other day. was out shopping with a girlfriend, whom i'm sure was routing for what to buy for baby, (i've heard from a couple of friends that they are terrified to buy anything without approval from me... didn't realize i was the anal) and the lady was showing us some large bags and she said, 'this one has two compartments for milk bottles'. i said, pointing at my boobs, 'i got two milk bottles right here'. it was funny but i suppose you had to be there.

rayrray i have deja vu every day so i can relate to that spacey feeling, that not sure if you are attached to your body sensation. go with it. i like to think that it means i am in-tune with the universe.

hmmm, well, i haven't anything else to say... should probably get to housecleaning... which i can happily add i actually love doing.

LooseyC · 10/08/2008 21:29

Good evening ladies, hope you're all well - I am so FULL. I have eaten enough for 3 people today. Partly comfort eating because I'm having a bit of trouble with family stuff and parly beacuse I don't care anymore... also have eaten angel delight which is probably toxic to the unborn due to it's freaky ability to set invented in the 1970s but please nobody tell me if they know!

But - had a mw appointment on friday and all seems to be well which is such a relief as I've been having bleeding on and off - I've found it very scary as didn't have this at all first time round.

Nappies - I was going to do reusables but haven't - oops. I'm also using those ecodisposables moosemama to make me feel less guilty but should really bite the bullet. LenniEd thanks for all the advice... Do you know if any of those types can be used for different age groups or do you need to buy different sizes? DS is nearly 8m old now and wondering if I could use the same ones for a newborn. Mind you they would probably have to be wrapped round several times, probably a silly question .

chefswife - is that site for real?! Good luck if you can do it, didn't read all the details but sounds like a blooming miracle...

missjackson · 10/08/2008 22:04

chefswife, the potty training method looks really interesting -- and that's pretty impressive to have a BOY completely trained by one years old. I might give it a go too... surely you would end up with everything (clothes, sofa, mattresses etc) covered in pee though?

LenniEd love the idea of baby running around in cute rainbow nappies, I'm sold! I hate the look of disposables, they don't look very 'cosy', but I'm sure the babies don't care either way. I like the idea of having disposables for trips out etc.

chefswife · 11/08/2008 07:21

miss jackson i think with a boy it must be way harder. from my experience as a babysitter, (years ago!) boys seem to find peeing a bit of a novelty or show off with it, that 'look what i can do' or something. i didn't know my girlfriend when she was doing the training so i'm not too sure how it went exactly... she just said that it was perseverance plus she had her mil around to help out as well. it sounds like girls are easier to potty train whenever you do it though. got my fingers crossed.

tinkispregnantwithpickle · 11/08/2008 08:58

morning

chefsw lol in shop
potty training does sound interesting
loosey i had chocolate angel delight the other day too ingredients dont sound good who cares is delicious
we used disposables with dd loved pampers new baby resuables to much hard work for me abit lazy

LenniEd · 11/08/2008 09:59

We use disposables for days out - if we are going to be gone for a few changes then the kit needed just gets too much. I also use them for long car seat trips as they are easier than having to keep stopping every hour as sitting still on a washable makes them leak after a while.

You can get newborn sizes in all of those nappies - there are a few 'birth to potty' nappies available, but ime these are bulky on a newborn and too tight on a toddler. There is absolutely no reason you couldn't put an 8mo in washables and use the same nappies for a newborn, but would depend on how big your 8mo is and how little the newborn is when it arrives. If you look on kittykins they have a lot of info on different sizes and the weight ranges they are suitable for, also bumfluff nappies has classifieds with second hand nappies for sale if you wanted to try a few - there are a few other places where you can get secondhand too, let me know if you are interested and I'll dig out the list.

I always think that even if I only used 2-3 washables a day and use disposbales the rest of the time it would still be saving about 1000 nappies a year in landfill - plus £s in buying disposables, so even if I don't use them full time it is still worth it, plus most of the time it is just as easy as disposables so we use them more than that anyway.

i am trying to potty train my little girl so she can start nursery in september but i am having huge problems with her. my little boy was really easy to train a couple of days and a few accidents and it was done. this time around we have had ALOT of mess, i have resorted to mini bags of sweets when she does it in the potty as they only way to get her to do anything is with food.

i have really bad sciatica at the moment and am trying to keep moving because when i stop it gets alot worse. i am taking the children to the theatre to see ceebebies today so i need to be able to move and climb stairs as we have front row upstairs. my back is worse today because i washed and polished the car yesterday so i could put it on e-bay.

i said it was my last pregnancy with my little girl and now look what has happened, TWINS!!!!. I have decided to get clipped when i am in for my c-section as my chance for twins or tripplets again is really high now and i dont want any accidents!
i am really huge now, i think they have finally gone vertical. my bump used to look really wide with an indent in the middle (like a couple of big rolls of fat) now it is longer and thinner and looks like a pregnany belly. i am getting rather worried as my 12R next maternity jeans are feeling a bit tight on the over bump bit. they usually last me full term and didnt expect to outgrow them at 18+ weeks. i have some under bump ones that will last longer and i have ordered so 14R in the hope they are bigger in the belly bit and not too much bigger elsewhere.
have a lovely day everybody

rrrayray · 11/08/2008 11:46

i'm feeling rather sorry for myself today, caught a stinking cold, so didn't sleep anyway, then as we've just moved house the curtains arent up, so 5am and i was met with the sun hitting my face! Grumpy!

I'm going to have to look more into the nappies, as i'm just not sure either way yet.

Can't wait for Mw appt this week, assuming i'll hear the heartbeat for first time?? Yay! xx

tinkispregnantwithpickle · 11/08/2008 11:47

Thanks chefswife! went to the doc and got some antibiotics as was feeling very chesty, surprising when you consider how insulated I am in that dept.
have scan next week, so will find out EDD then am in a tizzy of excitement.
good health to you all!

tinkispregnantwithpickle · 11/08/2008 14:20

RAY SORRY FOR YOUR COLD AND sun in face @ 5am i had an awful cold a week ago and awful sore throat.

poorbuthappy · 11/08/2008 16:23

Afternoon ladies - hope everyone is well??

Chefswife - weird or what, I thought about Violet on the weekend and decided that I really liked it!!

MEL2005 - good luck with potty training, I had to resort to smarties when training dd, worked a treat I'm ashamed to say! I'm also looking 6/7 months pregnant - and the bump is coming out directly under my boobs, so carrying high? Does that mean girls??

rrayray - sun? you can't live in the UK then!!!!!!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone else was still being sick / feeling sick / retching a lot?
I've started to retch at a lot of things like smells etc. I know I'm not going to be sick, but I found a half chewed tissue on the floor yesterday from the dog (don't ask, she's obsessed with eating tissues) and I threw it in the bin retching all the way!

Also my heartburns just starting to kick in, does it normally start earlier with twins??

Kittenpaws · 11/08/2008 18:08

Hi, I also have a cold and have been feeling like I have no energy for the last couple of days - stayed off work today and watched the olympics on tv as still have childcare for the kids - much more relaxing than the weekend. Going on holiday at the weekend so looking forward to seeing some sun!
This is definitely our last baby (will be no 3) - I realy want to enjoy this one. I don't have to do any shopping which is a shame - hearing about all of you makes me a bit jealous although I probably won't be able to help myself once we've had the scan and hopefully find out what we're having. Is everyone else going to find out too?
