not all tears are bad even bad ones, that doesn't make sense but hey, had a 2nd degree tear whatever that means, lots of stitches but the midwife did a fab job and the actual tear didn't hurt at all afterwards the tiny graze i endured did though!!! but was fine after 48 hrs

welshmum · 08/02/2005 09:06

Best of luck with the scans - looking forward to hearing all about it.
Uwila - sorry wasn't around yesterday afternoon to share my story - went home early for a sleep. Seem to be a bit knackered this week.
Anyway, constultant recommended an elective for me as I'd been bleeding off and on throughout the pg and they couldn't find out why - she thought labour might put pressure on my placenta, it might rupture and then baby in danger etc etc. Having taken so long to conceive dd in the first place and having needed a fair bit of medical help too I couldn't take chances.
It was a a very good experience - very good anaethetist, section done by consultant in an extremely calm atmosphere. I was up and about by the end of the day - your recovery is aided by this. I think I would have taken it easy at home for a while but when dd was rushed back into hospital I didn't have any time to think about anything so just had to get on with it eg. the m/w did my 7 day check as we stood up in a store room off the neo natal unit!
I don't know why but I recovered very fast, had no problem with breast feeding, healing, anything really. So for every bad section I guess there's a good one.
That said I wouldn't stand up and say everyone should have one - not at all. To each their own etc etc

Morning Girls,

Trib, Bubb good luck with the scans...come on and up the girlie quota!

Re the birth stories...Bubb with an epi they give you a local anisthetic first so you don't feel the big needle/tube...and on the plus side if yu do have an epi and need stitches you won't feel them, he he he! I agree with Welshie so much depends on the people administering to you as to good/bad births (aside from any complications). I had a change of shifts in my labour, and the first mw (bouncy bouncy as we call her!) was old school, thought I was making alot of fuss over nothing, blah blah - and I was getting more agitated and upset...the second was lovely and she had a student there too, who was great, kept saying wow and was very emotional herself...which was better than the urgh urgh noises coming from dh everytime he ventured to the business end .

Charley...indian head massage!! GREAT - maybe we should all put daft clauses into our plans like the stars do in their appearance contracts to see if people read them properly...like only pink gowns to be worn, or only songs beginning with the letter W to be played or a stunt double to step in when the going gets tough, he he he!!

teabelly · 08/02/2005 09:21

BTW when did all this watch a thread appear??

Tessiebear · 08/02/2005 10:07

Good luck with your scans Tribpot and Bub!!!!

Uwila · 08/02/2005 10:28

Welshie, why are you going for a c-section this time? Is it just because of having had a previous one? Or do you have other medical reasons that warrant a c-section?

tribpot · 08/02/2005 11:03

LOL at the stunt double, teabelly!

teabelly · 08/02/2005 11:07

Trib, wouldn't it be great if we could!!!

welshmum · 08/02/2005 12:07

I'm trying to keep an open mind Uwila until I see my constultant at 34 weeks but I'm not succeeding very well. I think it has a bit with a complete lack of belief in myself to actually do anything unassisted now (I couldn't even get pg for example etc etc)I have become 'medicalised'. I could beat myself up about this but have decided not to. There's no difference to my mind now between me and the other mothers with children dd's age - we're all facing the same challenges - so I've decided not to feel guilty if I decide by 34 weeks to ask for a c-section. Or at least to try not to.....

Uwila · 08/02/2005 12:35

Alright, this is your last chance to get on the list for the London meet on 02 April. I think there is someone missing, but I can't remember who, and I can't find it on this world record breaking thread I'm typing on now. So, please have a look at the meet thread and add any comments there.

Thank you!

BTW, we definitley deserve an award for our chatting skills.

LipstickMum · 08/02/2005 12:43

Afternoon everyone,

Good luck Trib and Bubb, enjoy your scans today

I don't understand what this 'threads I'm watching' is either Tea. How is it different to 'Threads I'm on' ?? Hmmmm maybe I'm missing a trick.

I haven't given the birth much thought in terms of what I want this time I may put down water birth again, because my birth team did read my notes !!! But tbh I think I'm going to go with the flow based on how things are going, but that is only advisable if you're a second timer and you have some clue about what will happen.

Dd is miserable today, teeth, blocked nose Her eyes completely cleared up by the end of the day. I don't know if it was the chamomile tea or whether it was just a passing thing, anyway it's gone.

Just got my 'info' on the Child Trust Fund. Not really telling me anything interesting. Apart from the list of places you can invest it. Dd has so many flipping 'funds' everywhere, she's richer than me

Lua · 08/02/2005 12:53

Afternoon all!
Hope you all had a better morning than me. Just had such a scare from midwife! Am still shaking!!
She called to say they detected antiK and antiM antibodies in my blood and asked me to go back in three weeks to get Dh's and mine blood again.
Of course, I went to did my research and found out that antiK was really serious and freaked out!!!
I called back and insisted on getting checked today!! To make a long story short she came back and said that it was a misunderstanding and that I only have anti-M, which should not be too bad! phewww!!! I wish the MW were a bit better trained on this exams results!!!
Anyway, rant over!!!

Didn't have a chance to read any posts, but wanted to wish the best to TRib and bubaloo on their scans

LipstickMum · 08/02/2005 12:56

Blimey Lua, these medical people really need to get their facts straight sometimes !!! Glad it's all better than you thought though.

teabelly · 08/02/2005 13:07

How awful Lua...what is antiM?? Medical staff they have no idea sometimes...as if you would be happy to wait up to 3 weeks!!! I have a friend who reckons she's a witch...want me to get her to do a nasty spell on your mw?

Uwila · 08/02/2005 13:20

Oh Lua, they are such bloomin' idiots. DH went for his check up by the practice nurse so he could register withthe GP that dd and I go to (we moved last summer and he hadn't registered with the nearby gp yet). So the practice nurse did a routine blood test, and said, oh you have quite a lot of protein in your urine. My DH is such the WRONG person to say that to. Instant freaoutitis. So he leaps from his chair to have a look where she is comparing the colored squares on the stick against the colored squares on the bottle, and he say "right, your holding the stick upside down." When she turned it right side up, all was well. But, now he's convinced he has something else wrong with him (which he probably doesn't).

LipstickMum · 08/02/2005 13:23

Lol!!!

Uwila · 08/02/2005 13:40

Lippy, the watch list is threads you choose to watch. This would have been more appropriately titled some thing like "My favourites" because then people would know what this is, but then no one asked me. (and Microsoft may have the phrase "my favourites" copywritten). Anyway, it doesn't bring back threads just because you've been there, as you may not wish to keep track of some just because you clicked on them yesterday.

Lua · 08/02/2005 13:53

Uwila, LOL at your husband. That was a bit like what happened to me today... MW is saying - Well.. you know I am not a scientist..., to which I reply - Well, I am! and there is 50% chance of fetuses death in utero with antiK . Get the result checked now!!!

So, does anyone have a private insurance they like??
After my dh back problem, and this scare I am ready to look into it!

welshmum · 08/02/2005 13:56

Lua - what a scare, you poor thing. They don't think before they speak sometimes and really have no inkling of what some things might mean for us.

Tessiebear · 08/02/2005 14:15

Lua - poor you - if it is any reassurance i had Anti - E antibody in ONE of my blood tests with DS1 - next blood test nothing. The midwives said that pregnancy can throw up some "funny antibodies" -(!?!)

LipstickMum · 08/02/2005 14:19

Sorry, no private healthcare here Lua, unless you count spending the rest of my days with a GP (dp) We decided the main contender that springs to mind; Bupa just wasn't worth the money. Decided instead to put some savings aways for any private ops we may need. But tbh haven't even got round to that!!!

Uwila · 08/02/2005 14:21

Also, private (I have BUPA through my work) usually excludes all things related to maternity. Th eonly thing it covers is a caesarean IF it is medically necessary. And BUPA of course determines what is and isn't medically necessary.

tribpot · 08/02/2005 15:09

Lua - sorry to hear about your scare Glad all is well though.

Well, after dissing the West Suffolk Hospital (and buying a 4 hour parking ticket) we were actually seen 10 mins early! I know you will all be shocked when I tell you IT'S [probably] A BOY! Will go and update the stats thread in a mo.

All is well and the baby is perhaps a little bit bigger for its age than average (as I know exactly when it - or should that be he! - was conceived) but more or less on target. As per the previous scan it/he was totally unco-operative so the sonographer is not 100% sure of the sex, but I'm really pleased cos it proves the MIL's "intuition" wrong

I have to say, though, the scan photo is RUBBISH compared to the previous ones, but I don't think I can really justify spending another 100+ quid on a scan just to get a better picture

welshmum · 08/02/2005 15:14

Congrats on your little boy tribpot - and sorry he wasn't more cooperative.....there's nothing quite like proving the MIL wrong is there...

Uwila · 08/02/2005 15:23

Yes... and another one for the boy tally!
