Nearly off on holiday. Have baked dh's birthday cake and I'm taking into his office soon. Best friend is entertaining her two children and my dd while I 'pack' (ahem, better not be on here too long ). Going at 2 hopefully, via Ikea, hooray! The perfect start to a holiday

I'll be back on Sat 19th, I expect a colour coded spreadsheet of any important events/discussions that I miss, and no one better go having any more babies while I'm away!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and week xx

mama2bee · 11/07/2008 11:09

Have a great holiday carrieon hope the weather's kind!

So glad it's Friday, 4 weeks left at work, which is good because I'm starting to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz at work these days!

Sunshinemummy · 11/07/2008 11:18

becaroo I've also found this pregnancy much harder than the first one. It's been a bit of a shock to the system!

Eandz I had the whole pre-eclampsia thing last time round too. I was in the hospital every two days with raised BP (mine is also often on high side) and had to do lots of urine tests, including a 24 hour collection (you would not believe how much comes out in 24 hours!). It's very frustrating but the way they see it is they would be negligent if they ignored it and you did develop P-E so you just have to put up with it!

eandz · 11/07/2008 11:25

sunshinemummy,
ooh i have a 24 hr urine collection too, does that mean i have to keep all my pee and transport it to the hospital? because i'm really not excited about the sounds of it. (i've been avoiding the tests for a few days because i'm really very busy this week).

Sunshinemummy · 11/07/2008 13:04

Yes. They gave me a huge jub and I though "I'll never fill this". I nearly overflowed it! One more wee and that would have been it...

hopefully · 11/07/2008 13:07

I think I better come back over here - I have been irritating people on Chat with my slagging off of premium bonds. They annoy me so much!

Oh, and 24 urine collection sounds aaaabsolutely grim. Hope I don't end up in any situation where they feel that's a useful test to do on me. Plus I'd forget, and get half way through every pee before remembering.

hopefully · 11/07/2008 13:08

And sunshine, what is a 'jub'?!

Sunshinemummy · 11/07/2008 13:41

Sorry jug. Eating and typing at the same time!

What's your beef with premium bonds?

hopefully · 11/07/2008 13:58

That people put money in them not knowing that the prize money (including all the mahoosive prizes) equates to an interest rate of only about 3%. The same investment in an ISA or something will make loads more over the long term. Obviously there are people who would waste money on the lottery if they weren't doing premium bonds, but I think people should realise that over the long term, a couple of £50 wins on £1,000 of bonds does not equate to even a 4% savings account.

hopefully · 11/07/2008 13:58

God, I'm such a grumpy old woman! And I'm only 25! imagine what I'll be like when I'm 50...

Sunshinemummy · 11/07/2008 14:41

I've had PBs since a baby and have not had a penny from them. Neither has DP. I think they're a total rip off and you have just confirmed that view.

hopefully · 11/07/2008 14:54

Yay, someone who agrees with me!

In other news, the baby is making my life a misery today. It feels like it's facing my back, and then arching its back out against the front wall of my uterus, sticking it out a bit. Imagine a baby going the downward dog yoga pose... Is probably a head or bottom rather than a back, but if it is, my baby has a big bum!

mama2bee · 11/07/2008 15:02

My baby's doing the same thing today hopefully little monkey! I'm sure I can feel it's bum sticking out - I guess in a few weeks though babes will have less room to move about... I love the TV prog grumpy old men/women but like you fear I'm turning into one... hey ho who cares?

mamamufin · 11/07/2008 15:54

Have fun carrieon and enjoy yourself .
Hopefully and mama2 I too feel like my baby is doing funny yoga positions. It really hurts sometimes too. I will join you in feeling grumpy and old.

that would be nice. So nice that not only will I accept your virtual one (complete with cake, I hope!), but I may buy one at the train station and have it with a real cake/doughnut/chocolate on the train.

Ponymum · 11/07/2008 16:55

Hi everyone, and welcome monkeycat.

I haven't posted for a couple of days because I have far too many crap things to whinge about that I don't even know where to start. I will try with a maximum of two whinges per post, and will make a rule that I have to say at least one positive thing at the same time. Otherwise I'll get myself down as well as all of you!

OK, today's whinge:

  1. Because of the SPD making me immobile the consultant is now really concerned about DVT. So I have to wear NHS issue ugly white compression stockings on my legs day and night!
  2. And I have to have an injection every day of heparin(?) to thin my blood - DH has to inject me in the bum or thigh.
  3. On the bright side I can stop worrying about having hairy legs with patchy worn off fake tan and chipped toe nail polish, as nobody will see that under the ugly stockings!

By the way, does anyone know where I can buy some stockings of my own that maybe are a bit less ugly? These ones are really thick and tight so I guess I need something the same-ish, but perhaps better fitting and not so white. DH says I look like the village freak now, and little children will run away and tell stories about the scary crazy lady in the wheelchair.

mustsleep · 11/07/2008 17:03

ponymum you have just describes my legs perfectly would the flight stockings be the same but black?

my conservatory is mostly finished yay!! the flooring is down and it looks great! just the electrician didn;t turn up today but he is coming on monday so we can use it properly then!
i have already put all the toys from the room in it and am planning a trip to ikea tonight!!

they have used this solventy smelling stuff that smells like really strong nail varnish and its lovely (although i may be a bit high ) has defo taken the edge off my back ache though!

hopefully premium bonds aren;t the same as the child voucher bonds things are they?

Sunshinemummy · 11/07/2008 17:13

Ponymum Boots sell DVT socks in white, black and a fetching American Tan colour. I bought some for my flight to San Francisco.

My baby is transverse with bum to the left front of my tummy, so she is constantly arching her back and bum out. I was talking to a couple of girls at the lift the other day and they suddenly went 'oh my god your pass is moving!' as Baloo wiggled against it. It's just like that scene on Alien...

hopefully · 11/07/2008 17:13

Mustsleep I assume you mean the child trust fund vouchers - no they're not the same thing, so don't worry!

Poor you ponymum, you really are suffering. Second the flight socks suggestion - or maybe you could google for a more attractive option? With stripes perhaps? Your DH clearly has a way with words!

Mmmmm nachos for dinner. I'm such a pig.
