yeah, perhaps a new thread re london meet up would be a good idea.

ok you guys, tell me about a gestational diabetes test. i was kinda hoping they would forget to check me for it and have been avoiding it like the plague since i've been in and out of hospitals for the past two weeks

eandz I have no idea about gest. diabetes test - don't even know if it's blood or urine! - but I'm sure someone will come along who does. How are the doctors feeling about your prospects of going to term at the moment? Are your test results going ok?

LittleConnie, i don't think there is a downside to having a sympathetic mw at a home birth but trying to put a hb into order is proving one hoop after another - hoops put in place by the same people, midwives, hospital etc who are legally obliged to support my hb plan. I can see why some women ending up not trusting mw's at all to be there.

i have read at least one hb story from a MNer i greatly respect and v easy to get along with who had a 'mare of a hb because though the MW was 'supportive' up to the HB was actually v. arsy with her during the actual HB and she regretted having her there.

I can actually put now put myself in the shoe of people who called the MW to their HB late enough taht they essentially had a freebirth. Because they were let down with previous babies and did not entirely trust having a mw at their hb either.

First time to be able to use the computer since I posted about back-to-back births. Thanks for advice. I've caught up now!

kiskidee · 10/07/2008 12:11

lol, it wasn't v well thought out but i'm chuffed it looks that way. I used ideas off here plus what i am reading in the Ina May book and making it up as i go along.

you don't have ot give me any detailed feeback, t'is not a test. just pass on ideas you have thought of that i may be interested in considering.

eandz · 10/07/2008 12:24

all my doctors still don't think i'm going to make it to term. one of the doctors said that if he were to put money on it, he thinks i'll be delivering at 34-35 weeks. the other doctors are just saying 'you'll be delivering earlier than you expect.'

i have a party to go to tonight for my husbands work and the dress is 'smart casual' so i'm not sure what that really means. i'm wondering if

this is the dress i have already

with a cardigan, heels and black/silver chandalier earrings? or would that be too casual?

Just wanted to say hi - haven't been on for ages due to extended craziness at work followed by two (lovely) weeks of holiday in Italy and a work-related long weekend the week after in Paris! It took me absolute ages to catch up and apologies for not being able to respond to all the goings on (but huge congratulations Kasha and my sympathies for those suffering from SPD or otherwise worrying about health-related things).

EandZ, I had the GTT test done - it was just a matter of drinking a disgusting bottle of Lucozade (kind of like gatorade, but in my view grosser and unecessarily fizzy) then having blood taken an hour later. My results were fine, but the doc said if they hadn't been all that happens is you have a second test to see if there is a problem. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but might make sense to get it out of the way.

starlight,
they want me to book in a c-section at 37 weeks, but think i'll labor early anyway and i should consider what i want to do when i do hit early labor ...and to be honest i'm not sure what the heck they mean about that...any ideas? but to be honest i've stopped caring because one day they are scaring me into thinking i have pre eclampsia then they put the possibilities of hellp into my head and the dangling of the elective c section in my face i'm not sure i really understand whats going on anymore.

MummyToOneForNow · 10/07/2008 12:59

This thread is moving fast!!

eandz - had the GTT this morning - had to fast from 10.30 last night then they did a pinprick fingertip blood test to check my blood sugar wasn't too high to start with. They then took a regular blood sample from my arm, gave me the glucose drink (wasn't fizzy or particularly strongly flavoured so I guess it varies) then asked me to sit in a waiting room for 2 hours before taking another blood sample. I was asked to take a sandwich to eat after they had finished and have to say that I was feeling a little light-headed having not eaten for over 12 hours...

EandZ are you still seeing both consultants? Are they both saying this or is it still the same one that originally wanted you to go for a c-section because of your weight? It sounds like he/they are not being particularly helpful in getting you to understand what is going on, why, and what your various options are which must be really frustrating. Given that this is all private care that you are paying for (and even otherwise), you'd be completely within your rights to demand that they really walk you through all of the options and medical issues, etc. as many times as you need it so that you're not left feeling bewildered and/or pressured.

expatmom2be · 10/07/2008 13:23

meant to add that I think your proposed outfit for this evening is fine, particularly if your husband is a lawyer (got that impression, but could be mis-remembering) and his law firm is anything like mine.

mustsleep · 10/07/2008 13:31

eandz my gtt was blood drawn from arm then the disgusting drink and then sat and waited for 2hours and then another test

has anyone been to the ikea sale if so did you notice if the poang chairs were in it?
might nip down tonight for them if dh will watch the kids without whinging about my impatience!!

hopefully · 10/07/2008 13:46

Ooh, I just remembered - my midwife took a few blood samples (I have no idea what for, maybe I should be more concerned?!) and when she was filling out the label for one she asked when I'd last eaten, for the blood sugar levels. That's the closest I've come to anything to do with blood sugar!

Eandz I think that dress looks v pretty - I really wanted a maxi dress for this pregnancy but all the ones I liked were insanely expensive/didn't have enough material. I'm such a porker.

jennylindinha · 10/07/2008 15:32

Eandz, I love that dress! May have to head to FC for a sneaky peek. I'm off to a wedding in Devon tomorrow and managed to get a fab Topshop maternity maxi dress from ebay for £15! It's a strapless one and feels really lovely and floaty (and I can get away without waxing my legs). We are camping for the wedding as it's on an organic farm somewhere with eco toilets and solar showers etc, but some friends are staying in the actual house so I've staked a claim on the proper shower!

Have another wedding on 6th September (3 weeks before D-DAY) and think I'll just be wearing the tent by then...!
