Due June 08: less of the hens hatching, more of the cows milking?

Lets hope it's not too long before everyone is hatched and milking season is in full swing!

Sex? HAHAHAHAHAHA [screaming on the floor laughing]. Not here - I just had an 'emergency' visit from the community mw because my quality of life was being affected. Turns out (don't laugh) that my stitches were too tight!! I did consider taking some extra strong painkillers and braving it out in the hope that I could start afresh - like a virgin but I wasn't allowed. Perhaps I should be flattered that the surgeon thought I deserved a tight tidy fanjo . I was really nervous about having a scalpel down there, not helped by DH doing Zorro slash movements behind the mw's back.

Neenz - friend of mine had a son, couldn't conceive for 9 years. Then (after agreeing to adopt) got pregnant. Assumed because of infertility she didn't have to be careful...she now has an 18month old son and 3 month old twin boys...(plus a 10year old).

Jaundice - whoever it was - now, I'm no doctor, but I actually suffer from a very minor pointless conditions which means I have yellow eyes. It's genetic (my brother has it with more effects than me; neither of us are good at drinking large amounts). It's called Gilbert's Syndrome. Minor and usually harmless. But often undetected. Now, this might not be useful or helpful, but seeing the doctors jump to extremes have made me look for milder options!

Had a bad night last night. Really struggling with lack of control! I'm normally a total control freak, ocd practically, and demand feeding really does send me into a flat panic. I feel so guilty because so many people can't breastfeed, and I'm (apparently) doing really well, but when he feeds every half an hour until 2am, I just can't cope. (Why doesn't he do it between 5pm and 10pm??). Can anybody help - me or him!! I feel so guilty because he doesn't even cry so much, but I can't leave him hungry - or can I??

Am reading the baby whisperer now. Is it doable??

Mind you, I feel better with my fanjo released .

bun2 · 27/06/2008 16:36

Hello all,
Yes I'm still here and still no labour action.

Congratulations to mellymell and hedgehog .

I don't think I want to bore you any more with the details suffice to say that nothing has changed despite my MW being positive I would be in labour by now. Really fed up.

Essie I thought that the baby whisperer did work you just need to give it time.

Must go my DD1 is sobbing her head off. Must go.
xx

Essie3 · 27/06/2008 16:39

Poor you, bun, and all others playing the waiting game. I became totally miserable at 1 day overdue, so any more must be unbearable.

Wonder how Penguin is doing? Can't wait to hear! And all others who have gone silent! So exciting.

I love this thread.

ktpie · 27/06/2008 16:54

bun - no action here either. Looking forward to DH coming home after work, this week has been pretty tedious and he stops me getting too bored and sorry for myself.

DQ did the sweep have any effect on you? Did you go into labour at the cinema?

dylansmumplusone · 27/06/2008 17:06

josey so glad to hear Olivia is out of intensive care!

good luck to everyone with sweeps - i'm pretty sure that's what got me going.

neenz the best advice i got with ds about sex is to just get it over with if you have anxiety. i had a lot of stitches and was so stressed about it we went 4 months and there was no end in sight. i had problems with how i healed (ended up with an extra little bit of skin at the bottom that still hurts when touched) but when i did eventually bite the bullet it wasn't as bad as i expected, and as others have said it gets better each time. i think if we'd have done it earlier it would have helped that bit of skin before it healed in place too much. sorry TMI!

my sister (no stitches) had sex at 3 weeks with all 3 of her pregnancies. she's crazy!! anyway my advice is LOTS of lube!!!!

essie i used the baby whisperer with ds and it was brilliant. i haven't actually paid enough attention to how long/when i'm feeding anwyn or when she's sleeping to really apply it though. i know she's eating well (she gained over 1lb in first 10 days) and she sleeps well so if it ain't broke!!! but with ds who was also good but required a lot more attention (Or was it just because i had more attention to give ??) and we got into a fab routine really easily using her methods.

Essie3 · 27/06/2008 17:23

Sex - my very good friend, ex-midwife (who was my on-the-phone-doula when I was in labour) told me that the most shocking thing she heard - and she's heard a lot as a midwife in London - was a friend of hers who admitted that she and her husband had sex 48 hours after the birth of their child. They apparently 'felt very close' and it felt right.

Bet he didn't even touch the sides .

pleasechange · 27/06/2008 17:41

OMG essie 48 hours! The thought of it makes me feel faint!

whinegums & bun2 - sorry to hear nothing has happened yet. Nor for me. Psychologically for some reason I really want a June baby, so I'll be very upset if nothing happens by Monday

bitofadramaqueen · 27/06/2008 19:01

ktpie back from the cinema - nothing happened! Assuming your blood pressure stays ok we could both be waiting it out till next weekend. Have to say though, I think they miscalculated my due date incorrectly (because its a leap year) so I think I'm exactly 14 days overdue by next Saturday so surely I'll go into labour naturally by then....? Probably not !

I'd really like a June baby too. Fingers crossed...

OP posts:
bun2 · 27/06/2008 19:16

BDQ, Ktpie, allnew and Laura| - So we are now officially the overdue gang? I would also really like a June baby but I think time is running out.

Have had all sorts of twinges, pains, tigntenings, backaches since my last sweep on Wednesday. Plus loads of pinky discharge (had a show last Thursday). Sorry if TMI. Whenever I think the pains are getting regular they go and stop and start. Aren't sweeps supposed to work within 48 hrs?

Am off for thai curry and pineapple.....

bun2 · 27/06/2008 19:18

Has anyone heard from Whinegums?

whinegums · 27/06/2008 20:13

Hi, I'm here... Still here.... Nothing happening so I am in the overdue crew too. Have resorted to evening primrose oil - orally and netherwise too. Will be having a sweep on Tuesday if nothing happens before then.

In desperation I posted on the childbirth forum looking for anyone who'd gone from 0-60 and got some positive stories, so who knows, maybe one of us will manage a June baby after all!!!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/06/2008 20:22

We're also waiting for poppy and pregnantpenguin too I think. bun2 I think my mw mentioned something about 48 hours but I can safely say I've had no symptoms whatsoever. Had a few 'tightenings' this week, and the odd bit of backache/period type pains but not today. Oddly enough though I had a couple of seperate episodes of strong backache that lasted a minute or so each time before my sweep today though.

whinegums glad you've had some positive stories, I'm trying to get in the mindset that nothing will happen till next weekend so that if I do go into labour before then it will be a pleasant (if painful) surprise!

thegreenfairy · 27/06/2008 20:54

Evening all

We must be doing something right because DH and I played Super Smash Bros Brawl, which came out on the wii today. Yay!

essie my friend has Gilbert's Syndrome. Re feeding, I would say that at night it's worth waiting till LO is really demanding it, rather than just doing half hearted mouthings. If you let them get hysterical it's counter-productive - they get stressed and gulp down loads of air, but if you can make sure they're properly hungry it helps.
But LO could just be going through a growth spurt. Storm had a few nights of hourly feeding for hours on end. Drove me crazy, but it didn't last forever.

josey glad to hear olivia has bounced back from the seizure. STILL haven't sent the sling but should be able tomorrow morning. Had another growth spurt to deal with this week but it seems to be easing. Storm has put on nearly 1lb in the last week!

hedgehog reusables don't have the gel to absorb liquid so they do need changing every two/three hours. I'm going to use disposables at night to save soaked clothes/ mattress for this reason, but you can get some good 'eco-friendly' ones - Moltex and Naturecare are good. Still using disposables 24hrs, but not for much longer - feel too guilty.

re sex, DH and I tried after two weeks and three weeks - too painful really both times, but it was good to feel part of a couple and intimate when you spend so much time just dealing with LO's demands. Will keep trying

paro re fleur straining, that sounds just like wind. Often Storm has been winded for a good 10 mins, but half an hour later needs another session unfortunately.

Ok, time to whip DH at SSBB again. Haha!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/06/2008 22:14

On the subject of moltex, the ethical superstore have the jumbo packs on sale at the mo here . Also hedgehog the 'nappy lady' recommended fleece boosters for my resuables at nighttime here. Obviously haven't used them yet, but could be worth a try.

PregnantPenguin · 27/06/2008 22:39

Hello everyone - have you missed me? Congratulations to everyone that has popped, not sure I'll ever get round to catching up with all the posts, but i will be checking profiles for pics.

Anyway I am delighted to announce that this penguin is no longer pregnant!!!! Ryder Henry was born on Monday at 1am - 8lb 9oz.

Ryder has suffered from severe jaundice since birth and this coupled with completebloodyincompetence hospital staff issues meant that we have been in prison hospital ever since.

Although he is so worth it, the last 8 days really haven't been much fun (Labour: Thurs - Sun. Kept in hospital: Mon - today). I am so happy to be home with Ryder and DH now. Still quite emotional about it all and am crying as I type...

Will post birth story properly on the relevant thread - don't want to put anyone off who hasn't hatched yet! For now, let's just say I avoided the forceps , but EVERY other option was tried, and I have the scars to prove it!

But I would go through it all again a thousand times over - so good luck to anyone still waiting, it really will be over soon and it really will be worth it. Although I do remember just how crap the wait was!

Look forward to catching up with all the news tomorrow, but off to my own bed with DH and Ryder now.

bun2 · 27/06/2008 23:10

Congratulations PP. Looking forward to hearing your birth story. Don't mind you posting it here - not much that could shock me now!

Well done! And so glad to hear that you are all OK and enjoying Ryder.

BDQ fingers crossed that the sweep works and you have some action before next weekend. Keep us posted.

Hi Whinegums I might try the evening primrose oil - do you buy the oil in capsule form and how do you apply it (ahem!) if you don't mind me asking?

Had my curry, pineapple and RLT - I live in hope.....

Good luck everyone over the weekend and hope everyone with babies has lots of sleep! I might not be on until Sunday because I have a busy day tomorrow so don't think I've hatched just because you haven't heard anything.

Oh yes, and I have an appointment on 9th July with my consultant to discuss induction. Poo!

libralady · 28/06/2008 06:32

Congratulations PP. Welcome to the new Mum's Club. Look forward to hearing your birth story and seeing some piccies really soon.

Luke now fed and changed and back in his Moses basket. I con't get back to sleep as DH has given me his sodding cold so am sneezing, coughing and sniffing like a bloody trouper.

Oh and DH is back off with work again next week. He is so pissed off and really knackered. Clapham Monday, Barnet Tuesday, Newmarket Wednesday, back to Barnet Thursday and Friday. He wants to commute but I am worried that we the early starts and late finishes plus all the driving he is going to wear himself out. He wants to come home and help me. This is really sweet but think I will just get more stressed out having to worry about him on top of dealing with DS1 (4.2) and a newborn. I'd rather he got a good (unbroken night's sleep) so he is better equipped to help me at the weekends when DS1 is not in nursery.
I am dreading it when I return back to work myself! Have no idea how we will cope, but needs must.

Sorry for the moan. Hope everyone is OK and those with babies are managing and those still waiting, that it will happen for you soon. Make the most of your time before LO arrives coz you won't know your arse from your elbow after a few days (I'm talking real sleep deprivation here).

Right, off to make some tea and toast.

Amberc · 28/06/2008 08:57

Congrats PP - what a fab name! Will you change yours now to not pregnant penguin?

My Luke is still not settling. Driving me crazy and DP is getting worried \i think 'cos I mentioned throwing him in the Thames (was only joking!More likely to throw self in Thames).

Cured constipation with Senakot - no gentle predictable relief but after three doses has worked a bit thank god - more painful then the c sction pain! Have been told that walking to greenwich and back and going shopping round Bluewater is massively overdoing it post section (why didn't anyone tell me what 'overdoing it' meant? )No wonder I'm in agny!

Good luck to all June no shows and let's hope this weekend brings baby joy for you!

PS Re sex after birth - I thought the bleeding lasted for 6 weeks - surely a bit messy no?!

sophiewd · 28/06/2008 09:02

Congratulations PP hope all is getting better with you. Great name by the way.

Well B&B has reopened just done my breakfasts and hoping to go back to bed this morning as Basil was up every hour and a half last night. Then DH can go to bed this afternoon.

PiggyPenguin · 28/06/2008 09:30

Congratulations PP, Ryder is a fantastic name. Sorry to hear you were kept in hospital but hopefully everything will settle down really well now you are home.

Jamie's bloodtest from the jaundice came back ok so we have been the given the green light to 'see h6w he goes' until 6-8 weeks. Fingers crossed his eyes have cleared up before then!

whinegums · 28/06/2008 10:02

Morning, and congratulations to Popped Penguin.

Bun, I bought the 1000mg capsules and have been taking a couple along with raspberry leaf capsules, and ahem, inserting one before bed - the capsule dissolves overnight (I hope - imagine monster popping out covered with gel capsules... or maybe firing them at midwife?).

Still nothing happening here. Our kitchen is being finished off as I type, so perhaps I have psychologically being holding back until then .

Good news about Jamie Sybil.

debinaustria · 28/06/2008 10:45

Hi everyone

PP - Congratulations - where's the photo?

Sybil - good news about Jamie

Josey - hope things are progressing well with Olivia and she still gets to come home soon.

To all those graduates - despite having bfed both older boys to 12 and 13 months i'm struggling with sore boobs, lumpy bits and red patches. I'm also paranoid about getting mastitis as i've had it a few times before. Ethan is struggling with withrawal symptoms of not having Nanny and Grandma here to cuddle him continously. So we've had more crying in the last few days. Also not managed to get him in his moses basket yet - anyone else co-sleeping?

On the plus side, my Dad appears to have realised that he's a Grandad and has taken the older 2 off on the train to the spa bath today - so we get a day to ourselves which is lovely.

Any tips for reducing jelly belly before sils wedding in 3 weeks? Obviously I won't be dieting with bfeeding though. If all else fails it will have to be those magic pants.

LauraT · 28/06/2008 10:53

Amber try lactulose rather than senna, lactulose keeps everything a bit softer and easier to pass, while senna stimulates the gut to squeeze stuff out, so can be still very hard and painful to pass. you can buy it v cheaply from pharmacists.

We had curry and pineapple last night, Bump apparently 'not bovvered'

Congratulations PP lovely name, and don't worry about putting the overdue gang off, tell us your story! we've been waiting for you to reappear!

whinegums I'm sure that now your kitchen is finished the monster will start heading for the exit... hopefully the suturing crisis hasn't hit Glasgow yet... do you think I could reach for myself if necessary? - I've lovely suturing skills...

I'm resigned to a July baby, July is a nice month too isn't it?

Essie3 · 28/06/2008 11:35

Penguin hooray and congratulations!! Really pleased for you. (Btw - has Whinegums got your name for you - PoppedPenguin??). Love the name too - it's odd, so far I've loved all the names on this board, so we've all clearly got excellent taste.

Had an ok night with Iestyn who managed a 4 hour stint between feeds, although with a lot of fussing in between. Unfortunately, though, our boiler has packed in, so no hot water for us today. Wonderful plumber coming later on.

Baby Whisperer question - am I being stupid, or are there routines to follow somewhere in there? I haven't found them, only references to 'EASY' method. I'm quite keen to get a routine because DH only has another week off, and I'm really anxious about what happens then.

Just a thought - I'm going to be in London after next week for 2 weeks or so. I'm concerned that I'll go mad - anyone up for a RL coffee? I'm in Tooting Bec. I'm not c-sectioned (and fanjo made wider yesterday ) so I can travel.

alipalli · 28/06/2008 11:38

Hello Everyone,

Sorry its taken me so long to get back on the internet since Peter arrived. I had a longish induced labour ending up in a c/s, so was in hospital for 4 days, and since getting home last Friday I have been in a bit of a baby blur.

Peter is amazing, I am loving being a Mummy, and I am beginning to feel much better. DH has been wonderful and the PILs were here this week running around and being so helpful. I have been very lucky.

I wont post the full birth story now, and realistically I am not going to get around to catching up on all the posts that I have missed in the last 11 days. Congratulations to all the new arrivals that I have missed in the mean time.

I think I may need to start a thread in the feeding section . Peter being 9lb 13oz is a very hungry baby, I was wondering if anyone else with big babies has experience of constantly feeding them?

I will try to recheck the thread a bit sooner next time
