Lets hope it's not too long before everyone is hatched and milking season is in full swing!

Oh Amber what a night and what bad timing with dp going back to work.

The only other thing I can suggest is to get your bathroom as steamy as possible, run the shower very hot and take Luke in there, the steam may help. Is he more settled now?

debinaustria · 07/07/2008 09:32

x posted with you Amber!!

Amberc · 07/07/2008 09:37

He's fine now of course. Why does babies only get sick at night?

Amberc · 07/07/2008 10:42

bored so was reading the july thread and our libralady has defected!!

hedgehog1979 · 07/07/2008 10:47

amber with you on the boredom front as dh is at work and weather here so attrocious do not want to take PFB out in the rain!!!

Josie57 · 07/07/2008 11:08

Deb and others - our little Emma also has pimples all over her forehead and a few on her cheeks - poor little mite.

Whoever said about the bored while winding-I agree totally, I don't mind feeding at all but winding????? I get so fed up doing it and then feel guilty Is anyone else using Infacol with bf - do your babies like it as Emma really pulls a face.

My DH also went back to work today and I swear my ds1 |(22 months) must have worked it out as he was awake and waiting at his door when my dh got up at 6am - previously he has been sleeping in till 7.30/8! He was a bit upset first thing but has calmed down now. Good luck to all of you on your own today, I agree with Deb on thegetting out front -makes you feel so much better. Lol at you getting the free tesco bus -that is exactly what i would do!!!!

Essie - that is a wonderfully kind offer and if you don't sell it I would love to have it but please let me pay you your postage. You can contact me on [email protected] Cheers you area star!

Bedtime routines - with my ds1 from 4weeks we used to bath at 6, feed 6.30 and then in his cot upstairs at 7pm. It took him about 3 days to get used to this routine but was never a problem after this at bedtime. He still goes to bed at 7pm now so I am really not sure how we will fit Emma into this pattern. I think we will probably bath them one after the other perhaps with big brother helping until thry can bath together. Then I will feed Emma and my DH will sort out my DS1. If he's out or this doesn't work then then Emma w ill go to bed first and my ds will have some quiet time upstairs before he goes to bed. Blimey it sounds good/easy in theory somehow |I suspect it won't be easy

LOL at services to breasts. I think all bfing women should get MBE's!

sophiewd · 07/07/2008 11:10

Amber - Libralady has a foot in both camps.

I don't have time to be bored.

thegreenfairy · 07/07/2008 11:18

debs storm also has what my mum calls a 'milk rash'. Ho hum. I still think she's gorgeous tho.

Although... she did projectile vomit what must have been the entire contents of her stomach this morning after I fed her lying down and had trouble burping her. I've never seen anything like it!
DH tried to roll over and let me handle it but I turfed him out of our (now sodden) bed. We gave her a bath and she had a 20 min feed and fell asleep - I felt so sorry for her but she didn't seem bothered, just tired...

essie re booze and BF, I may have your answer. Having read that it's ok to have a drink as long as you leave it a couple of hours to feed (because the alcohol leaves your breastmilk as it leaves your blood stream) I've been having the odd beer or glass of wine. But I started to think there was a problem with it because Storm wasn't feeding well in the evenings - taking two hours to feed, getting frustrated etc.
Having done some research it turns out alcohol can have a longer effect, by cutting your milk production in the short term by 20 per cent and inhibiting the let down reflex. The researchers found that mum's who had a drink didn't notice any change in their ability to nurse, but when their yield and let down were checked they were both siginificantly impaired.
This could explain why Iestyn could feed for half an hour and still be crying - Storm has done exactly the same thing. I'm gutted because it means I'm gonna have to be teetotal til I go back to work, but at least it's an explanation...

thegreenfairy · 07/07/2008 11:26

debs do you have a link to what you had for ethan for the wedding? I've got tons of 0-3 and 3-6 month stuff, mostly girly, but if you tell me what you're after I can probably post you something simple?

Just going to check Storm again now. The vomming was a bit worrying this morning. I think she didn't feed enough in the night, and woke two hours earlier than normal crying for food, hence the overfeeding and the puking. Bit worried about her, but am sure she'll be fine. Awwww.

thegreenfairy · 07/07/2008 11:28

josie i get so sick of winding - esp as I often struggle to get it out of her. Reusable nappies make it worse as it's hard to hold Storm properly upright, and she's got to be 9 and a half pounds now, so she's quite a weight to heft up...
But if she's not winded properly it's a recipe for disaster (ie, this morning's Linda Blair impressions )

debinaustria · 07/07/2008 11:48

TGF - I find walking downstairs holding Ethan upright against me usually makes a burp!!

Thanks for the offer re the wedding outfit Here it is.

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 12:04

Ooh, lots of posts. I've been unable to get near my computer until now (thanks Iestyn...)

Amber - doing ok here, but he's getting tense already. You've probably tried everything, but I have a strange suction thing for sucking snot out of babies' noses. I've not tried it, and it sounds gross. But sounds like it might be useful with congestion?

Josie - I really doubt whether the sling will sell, so I'll pass it on to you at the end of the week (just in case!). Will be in touch shortly.

Everyone! glad it's not just me. I was feeling really bad and kind of lazy, but winding is so boring. And, er, so is trying to stop a baby crying... Although today so far so good with DH missing. Mind you, it's only midday...

greenfairy I have my suspicions about bf and alcohol too. Iestyn screamed non stop, and his feeding was really strange - he was kind of shaking his head around before getting to the nipple in an agitated way. I began to feel guilty. DH didn't think it was the alcohol, but I'm not so sure. He did, however, sleep for 5 hours last night... .

Rolf great minds think alike. I also thought Deb was going to wear a romper suit, then thought maybe she meant a jumpsuit. And I immediately thought 'a jumpsuit? The woman must have a body like one of Charlie's Angels, and has only just given birth, so '. I'm thinking of zipping up my own jumpsuit later this week...not!
Aberporth is lovely. I lived in Aberystwyth for 4 years, and although it's a strange place and miles away from anywhere, I do have very fond memories. It's such a great place to take children! (I'm assuming it's the same Aberporth...)

I am now going to attempt to (a) clean my teeth and (b) go out for lunch to a local deli where there will be yummy mummies. Who will no doubt see me as a mad woman with a pram who makes desperate conversation with all. Iestyn isn't much of a conversationalist. And bad company over a meal, given that he happily (and loudly) poos in public.

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 12:05

P.s. anybody watching This Morning? Yes, I'm reduced to that and I'm actually finding it really interesting (PhD was a waste of money, then!). They've got a disturbing phone in on postnatal illness.

Amber hang on in there!

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 12:06

Sorry Amber - that looks like I'm suggesting you have pnd. I wasn't - it was a cheerleeder-type greeting of support to another mum coping without her DH. Sorry - my brain really is mushy!

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 12:11

Oh, crap. Literally. I can see poo on Iestyn's legs. I am so not a yummy mummy. Sigh!

hedgehog1979 · 07/07/2008 12:21

essie I have not had to resort to this morning yet as I have loads of stuff I sky plused while in my last few weeks as I was sleeping so much. I am catching up on loads of things I missed

amber lets make a pact that we will leave the house this afternoon, I have just remembered that my local tesco has a starbucks and that MIL bought Isaac some babygrows that we already have so might try and take them back too. Also bizzarely we are out of soap in the bathroom

I have a mission I will keep you posted.

Also wondering how all our overdue inductees got on over the weekend. Hopefully some babies have arrived safe and sound

Upsidedowncake · 07/07/2008 12:22

Morning everyone

LOL, Essie and yummy mummy cafe. Very impressed with you getting out of the house.

And LOL Deb's romper suit.

Dorothy only had one bottle last night and the rest of her nighttime feeds were on the breast so am very happy about that. Lactation counsellor phoned twice yesterday and will phone again today to see how we're getting on. Isn't that amazing?

Just had the HV round. Last time, I remember them being worse than useless. This lady was excellent - non-judgemental; she didn't, for example, shout at me about nipple confusion.

So with you all on the boredom of winding. I'd actually forgotten that you were supposed to do it between Christian and Dorothy, and had to be reminded by the midwives.

DH has put a lovely picture on the blog of Christian and Dorothy.

Wonder how Whinegums, Laura and Dramaqueen are doing. Thinking of you, ladies, if any of you are lurking.

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 12:31

Don't be impressed - I've not left yet! But hedgehog I'm with you on the pact. I will attempt lunch now, and possibly even attempt to get my eyebrows done. Small but achievable goals, eh?

Parofleurmapu · 07/07/2008 12:50

Morning all

totally agree winding is the most boring part of all this, having said that Fleur seems to not take in much air when feeding but then again dont reckon anyone could with these huge melons in their face!!!!

Bedtime routine - yes we have got fleur into a routine but then she is 5 weeks and feeding every 3 4 hrs.
I take her up and feed her one breast at 6
at 6.30 i bath or top tail her, then we have nappy free kick and a massage,
at bout 6.a5 ish we have more food (sometimes expressed bottle too as she is really hungry this time of day) and then a story
yes i or dp read something to her every night, then we have a cuddle, and i lay her in bed and stay with her for a bit til she is nearly asleep.
All this we do to the same music every night and she goes in cot at bout 7 and falls asleep bout 7.30/7.45 ish.
DP then feeds her at 10/10.30 and she falls straight back to sleep again

this is based on the baby book routine and baby whispere ideas it seems to work for us

lol at debs in romper suit, hope you find something suitable soon for ethan and great that he slept better and you did last night

TGF i didnt get projectile vomited on but i did get pooed in the face last night at 4 am feed!!!! Fleur has projectile poos and last night i lifted up her legs to put on clean nappy and was pooed on it went up the wall, door and all over me. I was still washing it out of my hair at 9am this morning!!!

Oh and fleur has lots of pimples and milk spots too

poppy34 · 07/07/2008 13:04

hedgehog plain ibuprofen fine if breastfeeding -checked with my dad the other day for mastitus..

Edie doing quite well although seems to be getting progressively hungrier... and feeds take forever - in complete agreement re necessary boredom of winding... at moment takes about 1 hr to 1 1/2 to do a feed including nappy change (in one end out hte other) , messing about time, winding and then waiting for her to take bottle.. am hoping that this is a phase and she'll get easier...

feeling bit better today as dh had me on forced feeding/nap routine yesterday so felt a bit more human. Still wondering and in awe of you with more than one ... when I"m tired finding it difficult to adjust (although I adore her) to demands of one baby so can't imagine how you manage with more than one without feeling completely overwhelmed. Guess its just hormones and tiredness talking etc .

lol at essie - edie is very fond of a good poo esp when dh has changed her and is sitting on her lap. Must try tv... had to switch it off last week as GMTV was thin end of wedge.. sticking to radio five now (or sky plus) when feeding which is a life saver when doign the night feeds (am so happy as getting through all my back log of recorded progs like brothers and sisters).

Hoping all those like laurat etc who waiting to be delivered are going to post the good news v.soon...

poppy34 · 07/07/2008 13:04

-should say dad is a gp not that I have some weird fixation where have to ask my dad everything...

goingfor3 · 07/07/2008 13:44

Okay, I'm feeling strangley jealous of those whose babies have pooed recently! Baby hasn't pooed for a week, when he finally does it will be huge!!!!

libralady · 07/07/2008 14:03

Hi,

Just had five minutes to try and catch up.
Amber I haven't defected. I startede on the June thread, then after my 12 week scan they gave me a due date for 1st July, so I 'joined' that thread as well, but kept an eye on the June one. I was hedging my bets iyswim. At the end of the day my beautiful son was born in June.
I'm still posting on the July one as we've all been through so much together.
TGF funny you should mention alcohol and BF. I had my family around on Saturday night for a takeaway and to 'wet Luke's head'. We opened a magnum of sparkling wine (only 5.5%) and I had 2 glasses and my milk production really dwindled yesterday. Got a bit down about it so was going to mention it to the HV this afternoon. Will still mention it however and see if I can get a professional's reaction. Will post back later. This expressing malarky is really time consuming.
I'm also having marathon winding sessions with Luke. Takes over 1 1/2 hours to feed, wind, change, feed again, wind, settle per feed. Lucky I haven't ventured far out of the house yet. God knows what will happen if I wanted to go out somewhere for the day!
Hope everyone who was being induced over the weekend is fine and dandy and cuddling the newborns as I type.

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 14:13

Back from lunch. Not a success - no yummy mummies, and Iestyn cried. But now he's sleeping!!

Goingfor3 you wouldn't be jealous of me or DH - we both got ready to go to church and only realised in time that we (both!) had poo down our fronts. ('A lovely couple, but they do smell.') Iestyn is little-and-often, but it spreads... On the other bit, DH changed him at 3am this morning and claimed he'd produced his own bodyweight in wee.

Essie3 · 07/07/2008 14:13

Must add - that's Iestyn, not DH...
