sweetkitty · 02/07/2008 13:47

pmsl whilst I was doing my mammoth post there was about another 6 posts!!!

rumpel - ended up with red, second choice colour and the only one they had with the 15% code, it's not being shipped to the 0th though

mummywannabee - a stretch and sweep isn't THAT sore, I'm a wuss, it's like a smear only a little more uncomfortable, I think the MW knew how desperate I was and had a good old rummage.

sweetkitty · 02/07/2008 13:47

that was shipped to the 9th hopefully there might be a baby waiting on it

beepbeep · 02/07/2008 14:14

Hi all, sorry too tired to catch up properly, DH just taken DS for walk and DD at nursery so want to get some kip while i can!
Just thought i'd quickly update you on my birth story; Saturday eve 2100hrs (watching Glast'ry on tv) and felt 'damp', checked and enough liquid to have marked underwear and trousers but not tonnes, told DH and just put on pad to check I hadn't just wet myself!! Went to toilet to check about 20mins later and pad fell into toilet before i checked it - doh!! However I then started with lower back cramps, 2 10 mins apart, then decided to go to bed thinking they wouldn't continue - got another 9 mins later - suggested to DH he may want to get DD to his parents 'just in case' so he took her and as the cramps were continuing I called midwife who said she'd come to our house as she only lived around corner, she arrived 45 mins later, did BP etc, all fine, chceked me and already at 5cm! still just cramps, able to talk and act normally etc. We had decided to give birth at local birthing centre, but it was closed as no one in, though this was no problem and they opened it up and another MW was called to meet us there. All set off, told no rush (and no sudden movements as waters were bulging! - hind had gone). Arrived at birthing centre, they already had pool running for me, had a cup of tea and at 0100hrs we were all discussing Amy Winehouse, listening to Elvis (think I must have been mad as I was dancing away), drinking tea and I was having a sway when I had a contraction. (Had TENS machine on) At about 0230hrs I got into the pool, then had some G&A about 0315hrs, by 03030hrs I was begging them to break my waters as wanted the thing out and was struggling a bit, got out of water, they broke the waters, got back in and Isaac James put in an appearance 8 mins later! Though only 0345hr labour, I felt totally in control and chilled out (apart from right at end when i was desperate for waters to go). Stayed in pool for quite a while, discovered he was a boy (!), waited for cord to stop pulsing (no injection), DH cut cord and then delivered placenta whilst in pool (water looked lovely at end!) they washed me down in pool and then got out, keeping Isaac with me, they examined me - no tearing, then left us with mug of tea and toast for about an hour before coming back and weighing him - 10lb 10z which was a bit of a shock - no one had suggested he was going to be big!

Can't remember who asked about the MWs and the water birth, but basically they just sat around (not in pool, nor was DH), chatting with me, supporting me when I needed it and if not pretty much keeping quiet. When he was delivered I was leaning forward over pool edge, moaning like a cow (they had taken the gas and air off me to make it more controlled!) and so they just kept telling me what they could see (lots of hair, eyebrows, nose, chin etc), they caught him under the water and then delivered him straight to me between my legs. I just then had to keep him as under water as poss to keep him warm. They also checked his HB every 15mins but this was just by giving me the doppler to put on my belly and kept the water temp right by topping it up or whatever.
Whole experience of the birthing centre and waterbirth was brilliant, though not sure I'd recommend the 10lb baby! Think it was the waterbirth and controlled second stage that stopped the tearing.
Feeling pretty normal already, felt very bruised for first 24hours! Isaac is feeding really well and also going 3-4hours between feeds, one bonus for a big baby i suppose!

Hope everyone else is okay and congrats to others that have given birth and I've missed.
Sorry for long post!

Have just got back from m/w appt, I know we pregnant ladies can possibly be a tad self-absorbed but honestly I do sometimes wonder why some of these people go into the profession if they seem to be so bloomin' joyless!!
She (let's call her B) asked what I would do if the midwife (N) I specifically don't want is on call - I said it would be ok for N to be second midwife as she knows how I feel - B says 'well, we don't want N to feel uncomfortable either'.
I mean I know they are colleagues, but really, the silly cow N shouldn't have consistently given me bad advice and should take on board the fact that perhaps she needs retraining. I'm not such a prima donna that it's just a case of 'I don't like her', I genuinely don't believe she can provide an appropriate level of both care and professionality and surely that over-rides her feelings.. sigh.

Anyway, on a positive note, have written my birth plan (v. similar to sweetkitty's!), plus a nursing top I ordered off eBay arrived this morning - I am so childish, it's a double-layer t-shirt with 'Mama's home-grown Melons' on it, snigger - plus amazement, bedside cot I ordered yesterday has also just arrived! Just have to get DH to put that up tonight and baby-size car seat in and we are go go go...

pigleychez · 02/07/2008 14:22

Hi ladies,

Well ive been reminising (sp?) today. Ive been importing all my old video footage from little tapes to my laptop. They go back quite abit.. got abit weepy earlier when i watched footage of my nans 80th party. Sadly she died nearly 2 years ago but was nice to see her smile again.

Jusr cleaned the bathroom which ive been putting off all morning but somehow seem to have broke the plug Its stuck down and wont come up again- Job for DH when he gets in.

Sk- You'll rattle with all those pills!

Jodie- Loving the Katie Holmes style birth.

Libra- Lovely new sofas- Id love to replace my cream leather with choc brown ones but theres nothing wrong with them ( apart from constant cleaning!!) so maybe not..

Hope everyone is feeling ok.... am i the only one with no BH's??
Think this baby is far too comfortable in here!!

Anyone else feel every little movement from bubba and find that they actually hurt!?
The feet sticking out can be really painful now

mcchesers · 02/07/2008 14:27

Hi, It was me that asked BeepBeep. What a lovely birth story and congrats on baby! I just wanted to know at what point the MW touched the baby. I've had a couple tell me that they don't touch the baby at all and let him swim to the surface. I'm thinking that sounds wrong considering all the evidence I have seen. I know the baby tends to sink to the bottom first..but how it is actually delivered is where I am unsure. Does the MW touch him at all as he is emerging?

pigleychez · 02/07/2008 14:29

Beep Beep... The water sounds lovely.
Im hoping to have a go in the pool if its free( they only have one)
And if i can now due to my high blood pressure??

Glad Issac is doing well... Lovely name by the way

gillythekid · 02/07/2008 14:47

beepbeep the water sounds amazing! Although I have opted for a HB, I have the choice of using one of the 2 pools in the mothers suite. My pelvis is in such pain now at 38 weeks with SPD, I'm thinking this might be the way forward. Well done you for delivering such a big boy!

JODIEhavingababy · 02/07/2008 14:53

BeepBeep, sounds like you had a fab experience. One I woul dlike to copy pleae (sounds like what I had with DS) But without the 10lb baby plaese!!!!!

McChesers, with DS, the MW kind of 'assisted' him out, from what I remember they had hold of his head and 'guided' his shoulders, then I 'caught' him to give him his first cuddle... Oh the memories. I can't wait!

beepbeep · 02/07/2008 14:59

Mcchesers - they didn't touch the baby until he was actually fully out as apparently any stimulation can make them take a breath, then they caught him whilst still under the water, quickly passing him to me to bring up. It is the air on receptors on the lips them make them take the first gasp, but if over stimulated before they can try to take a breath whilst under the water. He didn't cry at all for a while, but apparently this is normal for water births cause the birth is relatively untraumatic for them, he is certainly a VERY chilled baby! (though that might change!)

EEC · 02/07/2008 15:00

beep beep - great birth story. Very jealous. Glad all is going well. I hope the pool is available when i need it.

Pigley - yes LO's movements are starting to hurt sometimes. - especially when I have a movement at the same time as BH, which are coming fast and furiously at the moment.

Min - ity's your birth - it's imprtant you have someone you're comfortable with. Like the sound of your t-shirt!

New hoover arrived tday. Not as exciting as a sofa, but still pretty pleased. We SAHMs need something to keep us happy. Sad, heh? Got thde Dyson animal in the end. Hop[e it's worth it!

Thought I had got away with it - but an enormous stretch mark appeared last night. Boo hoo....

mcchesers · 02/07/2008 15:02

that sounds perfect jodie!

Good news ladies..blood tests are normal so no Obstetric Cholestasis and no induction necessary! Now just to get rid of this rash. Apparently it's just due to high levels of progesterone. Now to bathe in calamine.

gillythekid · 02/07/2008 15:04

Oh EEC I know how you feel, I found some under my bump having been religiously applying the Bio Oil and Mama Mio. Everyone tells me how much they fade, good job I like big 50's style bikinis though!

CilC · 02/07/2008 15:07

Min had a visit from MW about an 2 hours ago to discuss blood tests before I go in and aftercare if I am still unable to walk. She began saying that SPD and transverse does not totally exclude natural delivery. The term natural annoyed me, but then I also added what about reent broken ribs??? I asked her if she knew H my friend with infected c scar. To which she replied yes. I then asked her to go away...
H and I have been on phone most of the morning and apparently this MW (who fit her physical description)is not very supportive of C section mums and I believe generally incompetent for not ever checking H's wound.
Anyway just got off the phone from GP surgery, thoey told me I had upset MW. I told them if I get a bad review about a plumber, electrician etc I am definitely not going to hire them so why on earth would I want a MW who does not offer support and do her job properly. The have agreed for me to see another one, but I have to get DH to take me down...

So do not think for one minute you are a prima donna - I think maybe it is me. But in all seriousness, if you have a gut feeling stick to it. You are the customer and it is about time we all stood up and said we will not accept anything less than someone trying to do their best!

DH says I am a bit of a bitch at the moment though... maybe I ws a bit harsh... Must ring my friend H and tell her.

Heffagooday · 02/07/2008 15:37

Mcchesers - congratulations on the blood tests! Hope the rash goes away soon for you

Beepbeep - lovely birth story, and Isaac's a fab name

Min and Cil - good on you both for standing up to the MWs!

SK - relations aren't terribly romantic I have to say. Just hoping that the prostaglandins work!

LilyToTheB · 02/07/2008 15:53

Hi evryone!
Not posted on here for a while, but have been lurking. It's taken me all of this week to catch up on the last week's posts, man you lot can talk!

I hope everyone is doing ok and not feeling too fed up? We should all have our babies this month - yay!!

Congrats to those already had theirs!
Bebe - what a lovely birth story, it sounds pretty relaxing, and what a big baby! Hope you're all doing well

Is anyone else getting heartburn really bad lately? i thought it would've eased off by now, or is that when the baby engages?
I can hardly sleep at night cos as soon as I lie down I get it really bad and have to sit up again!

Miserable weather here today, but it's cooled down a bit which is nice

LilyToTheB · 02/07/2008 15:58

Sorry I meant BeepBeep not bebe - pregnancy brain again!

jocesar · 02/07/2008 16:04

Have a question. Lots of you are talking about having a sweep to bring on labour. Why? Is it not best to let labour start when the baby wants it to start? I understand that once you are 42wks then the policy is to start induction techniques but why would anyone want a sweep before this? Is it because there are other health issues?

CilC · 02/07/2008 16:24

I would have thought to get the baby out asap Jocesar, especially if you are in pain with SPD etc. Why wait an extra 2 weeks if you can help it along? Have never had one, but if I was not having c section I would be demanding one soon!

LilyToTheB · 02/07/2008 16:33

Yeah I thought the same, I've heard they're really uncomfortable, and wouldn't it be better to let the baby come naturally if possible?
I guess if there are health issues then best to help it along if necessary.

Libra1975 · 02/07/2008 17:13

Thanks for all the sofa compliments, they are here and I am in love. No-one is ever allowed to eat or drink near them.

cilc - I am absolutely speechless, how on earth can you have a vaginal birth if the baby is TRANSVERSE????

Pigley - I don't think I have had any braxton hicks either but from what I have read on here it's more uncommon for first-timers to have them.

beepbeep - lovely birth story and one which I hope I can copy.

mcheesers - the MW at our place has told us that we are the ones who guide the baby out.

SK - glad you are all kitted out now. I have the same tidy room instinct when I am trying to revise, but that may just be time wasting for me!

JacobsPrincess · 02/07/2008 17:14

Jodie - try this for larang-whatever. Slice a clove of garlic and put in a small jar with a couple of tablespoons of honey. Stir well and leave for a few hours. Then slowly swallow a teaspoon of the honey every few hours. It tastes a bit odd, but the antibacterial properties of garlic and honey really do work.
And if all else fails, wash it down with a good tumbler of whisky

Beep - fab birth story! And great name too. Well done you!

I'm still deciding wether to ask for a sweep or not. Didn't have one last time (was offered one at term, but declined. Then a week later, when they started talking induction route I asked to start with a sweep but was refused.) I've heard it's painful and you should demand G&A!

CilC · 02/07/2008 17:43

Libra - apparently you sit on a ball and MW can help turn the baby and guide it out. WTF! My DD was transverse and so is this one and has been for quite some time. I agree my SPD and sitting too much has not helped, but apparently my LO's like to spread out and possibly find it quite claustrophobic down in my nether regions. I think they are swimmers like their Daddy! MIL had DH by c section for same reason! But in her day she got a huge cut downwards -eeeekkk! She then went on to have 2 more - 6 in total! Did not ask how they were delivered.

Libra have also been looking at sofas, not sure why, I think you inspired me. Had 2 sofas at final payment stage and when I told DH he nearly gagged. They were lovely in duck egg blue.

I think DH is quite worried about me. I suspect he thinks I have gone around the twist - telling people off, almost making significant purchases etc. Personally I think I just need a life!

p.s. have not told him about order I made from Boden and quote I got for a ski holiday at christmas...heeee heee heee

Libra1975 · 02/07/2008 17:53

oh the duck egg blue colour is really nice. We spent ages trying to decide which model to have tho.
Personally I think your MW is talking bollocks, I know a transverse presentation could move during labour to a better position but for you to sit on a ball whilst your MW guides it sounds suspect to say the least and if she doesn't manage it that would mean an emergency cs. However I have no medical background.

If one more person asks me if I am enjoying my "holiday" I think I will snap, a holiday involves alcohol, beaches and sex not piles, an inability to bend at the waist and a need to sleep 15 hours out of 24.

CilC · 02/07/2008 18:00

Hence why MW was shown the door!
A holiday? Who said that? Was it a man?
