Neenz - good to hear from you, had been wondering how you were getting on. Glad Esther has been gaining weight, HV sounds annoying.

PP - I'm fairly sure it was a positive outcome for the birdy, think the mum would have been fussing around if it hadn't been.
Fingers crossed baby is engaged and ready to go.

Sybil - Congratulations!

Alipalli - mmmm millionaires shortbread, haven't had that in ages.

Did anyone else see Britain's biggest babies? Just watched it and it has made me feel a bit less of a heffalump! Bit concerned now that my pregnancy diet (creme eggs and magnums) may be all baby wants to eat once it starts eating.

pleasechange · 12/06/2008 11:39

has there been any news from systemsaddict??

alipalli · 12/06/2008 11:39

Forgot to congratulate Sybil on Jamie's arrival. Fantastic news. Look forward to seeing some pictures when you have a chance.

Also forgot to say to Ernest how lovely the photos of Adele are.

(Think I am a bit self obsessed at the moment)

Rolf try the millionaire's shortbread, it might not give you equilibrium, but it does deliver an awesome sugar high

alipalli · 12/06/2008 11:42

Allnew - I've not noticed anything from systemsaddict. As the one regular poster who is more overdue than me I am quite sensitised to her postings.

LauraT · 12/06/2008 11:43

your midwife should read this Neenz

rolf glad you had a nice time at the assemnly and people were kind to you!

perhaps we should have a daily roll-call (sp?) to ensure no more MIAs???

I seem to have missed lots of TV things yesterday that I meant to watch... Kirsty and Phil and the big babies thing! My cousin had her baby on Tuesday he was 10lb 4oz ... she should have watched to put it into perspective!

LauraT · 12/06/2008 11:45

think the last time SA posted she was due to go back to hospital on wed for another AN appt but had had a couple of shows? maybe they kept her prisoner there as she hadn't been well?

bitofadramaqueen · 12/06/2008 11:46

Congratulations sybil ! Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

Noticed yesterday that baby's bum which has been just by the bottom of my rib cage for weeks is quite a bit lower, so at least things moving in the right direction.

alipalli glad you are coping well with being overdue. Not sure how I'll be if I get to that stage...

aberdeenhiker · 12/06/2008 11:56

congrats sybil!

Neenz - definitely get yourself to the WHO growth charts and download them. They are actually different than the breastfed charts my HV gave me for DS1 - on their charts he's at the 9th percentile while on the WHO ones he's at almost the 20th.

As for weight - I lost about 1 stone in delivery and have another left to go before being back in my normal clothes. Last time I had a bit more to lose and it took me 6 months. The best thing I did was to buy nice jeans in my new size about 5 weeks after DS1 was born. I felt great wearing them and looked better. I've already tried them on and am chuffed that they fit perfectly. The one other thing you need is long t-shirts (to cover the jelly belly/stretch marks if you're like me).

Breastfeeding is great for weight loss, just not in the first few weeks in my experience.

spongebrainbigpants · 12/06/2008 11:59

congratulations sybil, that's fantastic news!

nothing happening here - except major nesting as I tidy the house!

sending labour vibes to all those who are overdue . . .

alipalli · 12/06/2008 12:19

Small domestic crisis - advice needed.

Due to the hot weather, and possibly the bl**dy pineapple trimmings that I have been generating I seem to have an infestation of very small flies in the house. Yuk! Not good for re-assuring my nesting instinct.

So far I have emptied and bleached all the bins, and the compost bin, thrown out some flowers that were still beautiful but seemed to be a fly magnet, and opened lots of windows to try and get a draught going through the house and blow the critters away.

What should I do next? Fly spray?

ErnestTheBavarian · 12/06/2008 12:22

I'd just leave it now. They sound like fruit flies, and if their source of food has been removed they'll die in no time. no further action rrequired, jut don't leave and food esp fruit lying around

ktpie · 12/06/2008 12:48

Agree with Ernest, just leave it a bit and see if they go. Personally wouldn't like to be breathing in fly spray (whilst pregnant or any other time!).

whinegums · 12/06/2008 12:50

Never fear, I am here! Awww Laura, thanks for noticing!

Been lurking, but nothing has happened to post about. Got prodded about the other day, but monster is still in head down position and a tiny bit engaged, so first midwife must have been having a loopyloo moment.

Spent yesterday cleaning the fridge, hoovering, etc. Got fitted for nursing bras by lovely lady who came to the house. I'd popped into Bravissimo last week, but they seem to have reduced their range. Anyway, very pleased with yesterday.

Laura, did I say to you that Neal's Yard do a half price clinic on Sundays, I had reflexology their at the weekend, v good and bargainous at £20/hour. Have booked in for next Sunday when therapist said she would start stimulating labour points if nothing has happened by then.

I feel like my bump has dropped a little more, and am certainly like the dog who can't pass a lamp post at the moment - daren't venture too far from the loo! TMI - ah, after everything else on our threads, quite mild I think!

On another note - I CANNOT believe that Sir Alan picked Lee to be his apprentice! Wot a swizz!!!!

Hope everyone is good, and those of you who are overdue get some action on the baby front soon.

Sybil - congratulations! Lovely names - well done you!

ktpie · 12/06/2008 12:50

Just thought, if they don't go you could get some of those sticky strips, don't think they are toxic.

whinegums · 12/06/2008 12:51

Oooops, 'there' not 'their' am embarrassed at my slip up!

Ali - you could maybe try burning some citronella if you've got it?

ktpie · 12/06/2008 12:55

x post there, I was still going on about the flies!

Whinegums - glad everything is going fine.

fungle · 12/06/2008 13:52

The sticky sunflower things are non-toxic for fly problem. I had the same trouble last year they worked a treat.
Congratulations Sybil, yes i agree with all, lovely names.
Good luck and lookin forward to news from labour ladies!
Ive got a leaking flat roof here, been going on, on and off for 6 weeks now, builders bloody useless and dont seem to know what they are doing. Coming Mon to try fix again, hopefully something will get sorted, I really dont want builders/work going on while Im in labour or have a new baby at home....Its too reminicent of my last pregnancy, where I had to go out 1 day post delivery just to escape the cement mixers and builders working on the flat right underneath us. Not very nice. Fingers crossed they'll sort it Mon....due date Tue!
Bit of an upset stomach today, could it be the 'clear out' everyone talks about before labour?? Doubt it, but a bit of wishful thinking wont do any harm!
Going to have a bath and read M&B magazine.

bitofadramaqueen · 12/06/2008 14:22

I've just had my first cup of RLT. Given that I'm approaching 39 weeks, I may decide that its far too late to start drinking it regularly. Disgusting stuff.

alipalli sorry about the flies - I absolutely cant bear flies, so even the thought of them sends shivers down my spine. Hope they go soon.

On the subject of nursing bras - think I'm going to get one of those original bravado bras (double + size for me ) but cant decide if I want black or white. Decisions decisions... Will use primarily as a sleep bra I think, so i guess it doesn't matter too much.

ktpie · 12/06/2008 15:38

We're very quiet this afternoon, I've been to the shops and had a nap and only 2 posts!

Fungle - what a pain about the leaky roof, hope you can manage to get it sorted quickly.

DQ - I must be weird as I like the raspberry leaf tea, been enjoying sitting down with a cup of it!

whinegums · 12/06/2008 15:47

Gosh, can you still get fly paper? I remember it in my Gran's house when I was a nipper.

Fungle hope your roof gets sorted.

DQ - RLT is vile. I've been adding a peppermint and liquorice teabag, which helps, but I've mostly stuck to capsules (when I remember). Bit haphazard really.

I got Emma Jane bras yesterday - v functional!

It is quiet round here this afternoon - wonder if there's more labour action going on?

fungle · 12/06/2008 15:57

Blimey it has been quiet hasn't it. Roof news they are hopefully sending someone tomorrow not Mon....hooray.
I bought the Elle McPherson Bra last week. The original ones not the La Mere ones, I found them fab 1st time round. Bravado also fab, esp for nightime like drama queen says.
Decided to go for a nap at 2.30 only to be woken by phone at 2.50 grrrr now feel shit.
Hoping cuppa tea will help before DD gets home from nursery.
Wondering same thing about labour.....

Rolf · 12/06/2008 16:04

well, the midwife has been round and can't feel the baby's head. She tried to do a sweep but my cervix was too far back, and she was surprised that she couldn't feel the head from that end either. So I'm to go to the hospital for a scan as she doesn't want me to go into labour without knowing the presentation.

All very sensible advice, but I am sitting here sobbing my heart out. The baby hasn't descended because of the state of my fucking disgusting stomach (no muscle action to push it down) and I feel like a horrid smelly old woman with egg on her cardie. I had to listen to the midwife being sent round the houses at the hospital, explaining to everyone that she was with a lady who was on her 6th pregnancy and has an "extremely pendulous abdomen that's very difficult to palpate". They are just being cautious and the main thing obv is that the baby and I are safe. The mw said they may need to do a controlled ARM or try to manipulate the baby. So I'm going to have to bare my fanjo/stomach to the world and will end up in the delivery suite which I hate. Don't even want to call my doula as I just feel so repulsive and sorry for myself, like something from a TV freak show.

I'm waiting for DH to take me to hospital now.

I know I'm being ridiculous and that so long as the baby and I are safe that's all that matters. I'm really sorry to be so silly (or schnilly as my DD says).

sophiewd · 12/06/2008 16:11

rolf sorry, not alot I can say but hope everything works out.

Been swimming with DD, weather not brilliant but parents pool very warm.

PregnantPenguin · 12/06/2008 16:14

Woo-hoo, little one is finally engaged! Only 3/5 but after floating around for the last 40 weeks, it's the first sign I've had that he might want to come out... My BP is a bit high and may have a UI (awaiting results), but other than that everything ordinary. Not a big suprise re: BP, afterall as well as today being due date we are buying a new house on Monday! But on both the fronts (house and baby) all I can do now is sit back and wait.... still having another curry tonight just in case tho.

Much better mood now, had my nails done and sat in Books etc for about 2 hours reading lots of books for the price of two (decaf!) coffees. Very quiet and relaxing.

Essie - Glad your DH is back and things are a bit better btw you. My DH has been a bit edgy over the last couple of days. I think it's only now that he's realised that it's really going to happen!

Sybil - Congratulations! I love the names too and am loking forward to pictures.

Neenz - Sounds like you are still doing great. Sod the HV!

Alipalli - During my hour or so in Books etc I read in a great hippy alternative remedies book that lavender oil repells flies, so if you have some handy might be worth a try. (I have no idea if this actually works tho!) They had nothing for inducing labour tho... Your attitued re: going overdue is one I hope to emulate, but don't be suprised if I fail!

KTpie - I like RLT too as long as I don't let it stew too long.

LauraT - LOL at the rollcall idea. Perhaps we should have a 'buddy' system. I keep an eye out for Essie for example cos we share a due date and it sounds like alipalli does the same for systemsaddict...

Whineguns - may look up those accupuncture points today and get DH to start massaging tonight. I know it's not the same as a professional, but it's worth a try - and keeps him occupied.

aberdeenhiker · 12/06/2008 16:28

rolf - sending hugs! I'm sorry your midwife isn't a bit more sensitive/sympathetic!
