Just realised that I meant to say ktpie earlier not fungle - my silly preg brain.

Still twinging away here - rang hosp who said sounds like latent labour which might last hours or days and to ring back when pains are every 5 mins and painful. Great!

Good news poppy34 - all sounds positive.

bun2 · 18/06/2008 21:25

tgf hope you have a good night tonight.

spongebrainbigpants · 18/06/2008 21:34

Hi guys, sorry to hear so many of you are having frustrating waits for LOs to turn up - can't imagine how I'd have felt had I gone overdue. The 48 hr wait from waters breaking to induction was bad enough .

Still haven't got round to doing my birth story but think I will as I'm hoping I will find it cathartic to write it all down as I'm struggling to process it all at the moment. I know TGF is also struggling with the loss of the birth she'd hoped for and it is very hard. One of my friends from NCT gave birth yesterday and managed to do the whole thing with no pain relief at all - her description of the transition and the birth just sounded amazing. I don't remember any of that cos I was so out of it on drugs.

But now I have more pressing issues to worry about - Alex isn't feeding well at all and is failing to thrive. He was 7lbs 3 ozs at birth on Sunday and 6 lbs 4 ozs today, so he's lost nearly a pound since birth. He is also producing urates in his nappy which is a sign of dehydration. I was devastated as I had to take him to the GP and will have extra monitoring with the MWs. I feel like such a failure.

I'm desperately trying to BF but the little mite latches on, sucks for a second and then either falls asleep or cries his eyes out and bashes my breast with frustration as if there's bugger all in there. I feel a total and utter failure - everything about this process I've failed at. I couldn't conceive naturally, I couldn't birth naturally and now I can't feed naturally.

Sorry, feeling really sorry for myself, but I have just given Alex a bottle and I'm devastated.

poppy34 · 18/06/2008 21:43

sponge good to hear from you - you're so not a failure but all babies are different and just sounds like alex is not finding feeding easier. Hope the bottle feeding helps him to regain some of his weight.

keep strong - sounds like you're doing a great job [hugs]

debinaustria · 18/06/2008 21:57

'Congratulations Debs, and LOL at someone referring to your DH as Mr Austria, I have visions of Arnold Schwarzenegger now!'

How did you guess debs is always saying i look like him!!

Debs is doing well today. Baby is not feeding much yet but only 24 hours old! She could be in until Sunday and so will not be posting for quite a while!!

I have quickly made a slide show of baby

Am home with a baby! Had little Luke Joseph on Sunday (Father's day) 15 June at 10.10pm. After having my first contractions on Friday evening. All very awful birth experience to be honest ending up in a section. He is gorgeous I will put a photo up soon and a full birth story. I cn't do breastfeeding nd my god I have tried but Luke won't do more than 3 sucks before screaming with what we think is frustration - I have had every midwife trying toshove his poor face on my nipples and have now resorted to formula until I grt some milk which I can express and give him in a bottle. It's very weird and scary being home and I still look 6 months pregnant!

Congrats to everyone else who has popped! And to those who haven't - GET AS MUCH SLEEP AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!

Rolf · 18/06/2008 23:33

Oh Spongebrain, you poor darling. You sound so upset . You have produced a beautiful healthy baby, you are amazing. I wish I knew how to make you feel better.

Amber - congratulations. We had DD2 on fathers day too

Deb - lovely pictures and don't you look great!

Poppy and Bun - glad things are going well. Bun, hope the twinging continues!

xx

LauraT · 19/06/2008 01:12

Can't sleep and fed up of trying to get comfy so thought I'd catch up... with you all on the phone thing, wish I knew how to reset my mobile and answering machine so tehy rang for longer before cutting in, had visions of falling down stairs in a rush to answer, so now just let it ring!

lovely photos Mr Austria (that's your own special MN name now!) Ethan is gorgeous and your other boys look so pleased with their new brother!

Sponge please don't be so hard on yourself, the fact that you have produced a lovely baby boy means that you are most definately not a failure, in fact, given the obstacles you have overcome to get there, I think it makes you even more of a winner!
I met up with a friend last week who had real problems with BF and after 4 days switched to FF. She's happier, baby is happier and Dad is enjoying sharing the feeding burden. If you are both struggling, then don't feel bad about having to supplement with FF. I really hope you manage to persist with BF as you obvioysly are very keen to do so, but don't make yourself miserable. lots of love and positive thoughts to you, I'm sure tomorrow will be better People say day 3 is often the worst, so fingers crossed for today!

good luck bun2 hope it's a quick latent phase!

sophie good luck, who will tidy up the list while you're busy having the baby!?

LauraT · 19/06/2008 01:13

amber and Alipalli congratulations on the births of your sons. lovely names all round and evens up the numbers of boys and girls here a bit!

looneytune · 19/06/2008 06:05

Hope all well, sorry to not be catching up as usual, I've been having contractions since 3am and just trying to decide at what point you're supposed to fill up birthing pool if using one??

Anyway, hope this is it and not some false alarm. Catch up soon x

libralady · 19/06/2008 06:20

Good luck looney

Lovely photos Deb spongebob you are NOT a failure. I had the same problems with my DS when he was born and trying to feed. We were readmitting to Paeds at 4 days old, and after initially losing over lb in weight, he never looked back once he was on formula. Am going to try BF again this time, but I WILL NOT beat myself up about it if it doesn't work.

Good luck again sophie

Right just heading off for my last day a work. Can't wait!

PregnantPenguin · 19/06/2008 07:54

Morning All - Congrats on the new arrivals.

Was a bit (actually very) down when I went to bed last night as it seems everyone is having their babies except me. It was all feeling so unfair and I felt so frustrated, especially after the show the night before, I ended up having a big cry before going to sleep.

Woke up at 6am this morning, demanding that DH brought me a towel, yep my waters had broken. Managed to make it to the toilet with just three drips on the carpet (and am stupidly proud of myself for that).

Started getting contractions pretty much immediately afterwards - we're now looking at every five minutes or so lasting about one minute. I am able to cope with them ok at the mo, so have no intention of going to hospital until that changes!

I'm finally going to meet my baby!

Going have some toast now...

looneytune · 19/06/2008 08:27

Oh good luck, mine are now 3-4 mins apart and HURT! Birthing pool being filled. Hope goes good for you xx

PregnantPenguin · 19/06/2008 08:30

Hello Looney! Can't believe we're posting here whilst in labour(!!!), but did you find that they progressively got more painful. I'm a bit suprised at how manageable they are at the mo...

katyjo · 19/06/2008 08:49

Wow sounds like we might have quite a few babies over the next 24 hrs or so! Good luck PP and looney. sponge I really feel for you, it isn't your fault your lo isn't feeding, sometimes it just happens. Like Laura says you have overcome so many obstacles to have your lo, you are a winner and I can't believe you think you have failed. My best 'baby' friends both used ff and to be honest they were healthy than ds, I really don't think it makes much difference to be honest (don't let anyone off the bf threads here that!).
You should definately write down your birth story, but the most important thing to remember is YOU DID IT, you have the most beautiful baby, grew him for 9 months and gave birth to him - ALL YOU!! How wonderful is that. You (we) are amazing.

Rolf · 19/06/2008 09:09

Good luck Looney and PP . PP - very impressed at your orderliness in not making a mess .

How are you feeling today Sponge?

Bun and PearTart - how are things?

Hope everyone else is ok today. We had our first proper "newborn" night last night in which I got v little sleep so feel tired and headachy today. Also whenever she latches on she breaks open the freshly-healed bilsters on my nipples. I'd forgotten how teeth-grittingly painful this bit is!

Poor DS1 got the fright of his life yesterday. He was standing next to me when DD2 finished feeding and saw my huge sticky-out nipple when she came off. He looked utterly terrified and appalled so I promised to hide them from him. Too Freudian for words.

My MW has recommended a pilates teacher who does personal training. I'm thinking of seeing if she can come to the house. I want to see how strong I can get my tummy using exercise before I fling it in a wheelbarrow and take it to the GP.

This is all so exciting . Can't wait to hear about the new arrivals.

josey · 19/06/2008 09:16

Hi everyone
very quick post....congrats to all the babies they are arriving really quickly now...and pp & looney goodluck.

There was no better news for us on the EEG im starting to get really pissed off with the docs poor Olivia is drugged to the max and they still expect cart wheels!!! she had a bit of a bad couple of days but nothing serious.

Anyway the good news is she has been promoted she has a new house in High Dependancy as she is no longer an Intensive Care baby. Im going in today to learn to change her tube gulp!

Favour to ask I never really got into the sling thing before but Im now looking for one that I will be able to use about 12hours a day and for as long as poss at least till 2years. HELP ....AH I know your good on slings.

Thanks love to all and virtual snuggles to all your lovely babies xx

Rolf · 19/06/2008 09:24

Hi Josey - great news about Olivia's house move although irritating about the doctors. I'm sorry the EEG didn't bring any better news.

I'm rubbish on slings but I know there are plenty of others on our lovely thread who are experts.

How is your infection? And hope your other children and DH are ok.

xxx

Sarahpo · 19/06/2008 09:27

Hello thought i would add a quick post as someone from another thread directed me here. I am due 29/06/08 and this is the first baby. I am really struggling to get around now i feel SO HEAVY! BabyPo is dropping downwards which is obviously a good thing but the pressure on the nether regions is something else....anyway good luck to you all this is the weirdest part of the pregnancy i think the 'waiting for something to happen'...SarahPo

mellymell · 19/06/2008 10:26

Good luck looney and PP - am impressed by the whole towel thing.

sponge - please, please don't beat yourself up. Breast feeding is really difficult for both mother and baby. Bollocks to it being a 'natural' instinct - it has to be learnt by both parties and takes some doing. Get yourself to your midwife or if you can, find independent breast feeding consultants who will be able to help. Otherwise, using formula is absolutely fine - I mixed breast with bottle last time and will be doing it this time (rude sign if there are any breast feeding purists out there) - it enables your DH to participate and gives you a chance to rest. The best advice I was given about this motherhood lark was 'no one hands prizes out to the best mother' - so please don't worry, you are going to be doing a brilliant job whether you breast feed or not. {{{{{{{{{huge hugs }}}}}}}}}

Good luck sophie Peartart - had my second sweep yesterday. Am also 3cm dilated, she could feel the sack and even the baby's head. She can't understand why he is still in there, except that he must be hanging on by his toes. She also said that I was the first mother who had suggested sticking a GPS up my fanjo to help the baby find the way out!

Nothing happening, so taking cauli phylum (can't spell) homeopathy every 2 hours now. My mother has banned me from leaving the house - "Darling it would be so embarrassing if your waters broke on the bus or in Peter Jones" - so am going quietly crazy with boredom. However, whatever happens, have my induction (42 weeks) on Saturday, so the waiting will soon be over, come what may.

Apologies - long note.

needahand · 19/06/2008 10:26

Hi guys

I have (I think)added a picture of baby SJ on my profile. I hope it worked as I am not very good at that sort of things. SJ is great and I am getting a bit more sleep. The only thing I am slighlty worried about is sometimes when he feeds the feed comes out through is nose whilst he is feeding. So I think he had a good feed and realise everything came out the otherway. I think I will call la leche today too as DD never did that and I think it is odd.

I am catching up page by page again.

Rolf yes I think hypnosis really works doesn't it (to a certain extent). Re after pain, I had to breathe through mine. Like Io did through the contractions!

ktpie · 19/06/2008 10:27

Morning everyone,

Josey good news about Olivia moving. I ended up getting one of these from ebay. Not sure if it would be OK to use all day as all on one shoulder but OK from newborn until 3+. Haven't tried it yet as still waiting for baby so can't tell you how good it actually is!

Welcome Sarahpo, I'm feeling a bit in limbo at the moment waiting for things to happen, there are quite a few of us on here in the same boat!

Looneytune and PP - hope it is all going well, looking forward to hearing all about the births.

Amber - congratulations on the birth of Luke!

Debs - lovely pictures, you all look very happy!

I'm feeling a lot happier today, had a chinese take away last night and a small glass of wine and cheered up a lot! One of my friends is coming round for a cuppa in a bit so looking forward to that.

needahand · 19/06/2008 10:31

Gf at the ecoballs breaking the washing machine!! I hope you feel better by today and that storm is letting you sleep a bit.

Peartart I hope the sweep went well

debs congrats. What a trooper! a 10lb baby without pain relief that is an achievement!

needahand · 19/06/2008 10:40

Greenfairy I am just reading your post about being on the sofa with her in your arms. I know what it feels like because with DD and her colics I did that a lot. One thing I found help was actually put her in a baby carier like a baby bjorn and put a foot rest and loads of pillow to make yourself comfortable upright. That way if you drift off, you don't have to worry about dropping her or anything, as she is secure in the baby carier and because you are upright, you can't crush her either. Worth thinking about, sometimes desperate times calls for desperate measures and this was definitely a life saver for me at the time

Re feeding to give you an idea SJ is currently feeding every three or sometimes 3.5 hours (but sometimes hourly) and he is only a week old. Personally I think you should follow your instinct and storm natural patterns. You said you had loads of milk so might be that she doesn't need to feed so often. Do what YOU think is best. You know you are her mum, no one knows her like you do.

Good luck I hope it gets better

Sarahpo · 19/06/2008 10:47

Thanks for welcomes i am feeling a bit weird about waters breaking in public but hey i am heavily pregnant after all. I am going to try and walk up to the shops now but it is the strangest feeling knowing that something could happen at any time :-) This is my first so don't have a clue what to expect...can you tell?!!
