Thank you all again

Looney gosh you made me cry...what I wouldnt give for that to be the outcome....It gives me so much hope and thats all I can do each day is hope.

Little Livi hasnt had the best of days her breathing went a bit shallow today with them upping her feeds so quick she was being a bit sick and as she doesnt have a proper gag there seems to be milk in her lung...she is on a small amount of o2 and anti bs to make sure she doesnt get an infection...apart from that she is ok she is being fed every 2 hours 45mls to see if that helps with the sickness.

Bless the staff in the unit they took a lovely pic of her without her tube and made a special fathers day card for DH.

I have been trying to upload a picture of her but some reason I cant get it to go grr

Debs I think it was you that asked im between 30/40mins drive all depends on the traffic.

Congrats to all the new babies that have arrived.

thegreenfairy · 15/06/2008 22:07

josey glad to hear olivia is fighting on, despite the feeding problems. And I forgot to say, I'm so glad she could hold your hand. It's so important.

ernest I wonder whether we could start a sister thread just for 'graduates problems'. I know there are things I want to ask/ vent but with so many babies still to come I do sometimes feel like I'm doing it in the wrong place - but I don't really want to venture out into the other non-june threads. What do others think? Would prevent this thread getting empty too...

josey · 15/06/2008 22:15

I have managed to get the pic up...It was taken today when she was out for a cuddle....she hasnt had her hair washed for a few days but I still think she is cute if a bit messy.

GF you are right it is so important, she holds dh though one side and me through the other she knows when we are there and is very settled...Im starting to fear we will both have to hold one of her hands each for every though lol...one lady has been telling me her little boy at just over a weeks has already become affraid of the dark!!

bitofadramaqueen · 15/06/2008 22:27

Evening all, just a quick post to say hi, am knackered so no energy to respond to any particular posts, although thanks for those that missed me the other day .

I've got a feeling I'm going to be here till July [sob] so please dont leave me on my own - especially since my due date buddies seem to be hatching all over the place!!!

katyjo · 15/06/2008 22:37

josey she's gorgeous, a really little fighter.

My milk supply is really settling down now, Mia is 3 weeks old, so hopefully if your having feeding problems it shouldn't last too much longer. Like your tip GF those folk at ll are great!

debinaustria · 15/06/2008 22:40

Josey - what a gorgeous photo of Olivia, I love her spiky dark hair!Sorry she's not had the best of days today, hope her breathing isn't so shallow tomorrow. The Fathers day card brought a lump to my throat - sounds like there are some fantastic nurses looking after her!

Take care of yourself Josey

Essie3 · 15/06/2008 23:34

Hello, this is Essie's DH typing whilst Essie herself reclines in, and dictates from, a warm bath.

A rather frustrating day... after Friday evening's false alarm and not much happening on Saturday, I thought that Sunday would be the day when I was woken up by contractions at 3.30am and got little sleep thereafter. Went into to hospital just before 4pm with contractions thick, fast and painful. Exam showed I was just 1cm dilated. So, I was hooked up to a TENS machine (lovely!) and waited. And waited... And not much seemed to happen, apart from pain and getting rid of the cheese sandwich I'd been given for tea. When the night-duty midwife examined me after she came on shift, I was still only 1cm dilated and felt in despair as I was really tired and didn't seem to have got anywhere.

So, I'm back home for now, trying to cope without a TENS machine for a bit whilst I have a warm bath and wondering how much sleep I might get tonight. More news soon, perhaps...

Amber - how are you doing? Hopefully progressing more than me!

Penguin - you might beat me yet!

libralady · 16/06/2008 06:12

Josey what a lovely picture of Olivia. Hope today is a better day for you and hold on to the hope that Looney's family experienced in the past.

Essie - Looking good. I must remember to get my DH to keep people informed whilst I am labouring at home (of course if he is here). Hope there is some news when I return from work later.

Just about to embark on my final week at work before holiday and ML kicks in. Can't wait, I am so knackered now.

Good luck to anyone else experienceing pains in one shape form or another and commisserations to those that are overdue. Just remember it WILL be over soon and you will be holding a little bundle of joy.

debinaustria · 16/06/2008 06:54

Morning all, still here, a few BH last night, then slept really well, disappointed to wake up this morning feeling exactly the same. Off shopping this morning with Mil, then a spot of baking this afternoon.

Essie and MrEssie - thanks for updating us, what a frustrating weekend, hopefully the belated Father's day present of your baby will be with you very soon.

LL - can't believe you're still working, you must be counting down the minutes now. Hope this last week flies by for you.

due date buddies - Rolf - how are you, been quiet this weekend - hope that's a good sign.
Mellymell - don't think you've posted since you went for a walk, how are things with you?

sophiewd · 16/06/2008 07:57

Morning all, no breakfasts to do today, I think this is the first for about a month. But still things to do, first load of washing out second in and ironing this morning and then relax.

Forgot to ask Deb - when is your SIL's wedding because that must be fairly soon and did you get the accommodation sorted for your Aunt and cousin.

mellymell · 16/06/2008 08:58

Hi all

Again, congrats to all those who have had their babes - hope all is going well, and special good wishes to Josey with Olivia - hope she gets stronger.

  • warning, another rant from me, again!

Well - feel a bit like bit of a drama - everyone else is popping apart from me. Can't believe that being overdue is happening to me for a second time. I was promised that the second child would just pop out at least a week before the due date.

Last week I did long walks, pineapple, acupuncture and had a sweep. Was convinced that things were going to happen on Friday (deja vue from the previous Friday) and again, apart from an hour of contractions at 3.30am which then stopped, a big fat nada. I feel sorry for poor DH who has to keep going back into the office every Monday am with an embarrassed shrug .

My mother is phoning me every day with encouraging words, but not sure what to do. Have yoga and a visit to Peter Jones (whoo hoo) this morning, but have booked in for an induction next Saturday if the second sweep on Wednesday doesn't do the trick.

Really wanted this to happen naturally, but obviously, I have a womb the size of St Paul's Cathedral which is too comfy and roomy for 'Bert' to want to come out. He just keeps squirming away, usually in the early hours, sticking his bum in my ribs. humph.

ktpie · 16/06/2008 09:09

DQ - I'm due the same day as you and there is no sign of anything happening here yet, am trying to focus on July being when things might happen then anything sooner is a bonus!

Josey - Olivia is gorgeous. I hope the sickness is getting better for her.

I had a load of phone calls last night from people just checking I was OK, I'm not even due for another week!

Hope all the inductions etc go well today and that all the overdue people start having babies!

PiggyPenguin · 16/06/2008 10:30

Morning everyone. Essie and Allipalli, fingers crossed that everything starts moving soon for you.

Well the bowling balls have gone (woopee!), but seem to have left a few pink lumpy bits in their wake which ache when I get letdown. I suspect some of my ducts have got a bit blocked but will see the mw today so hopefully she can help. Thanks for the bf-ing advice, I know I need to relax and let it happen but feel so disheartened when it doesn't go to plan. I'm also worried Jamie isn't feeding enough but I guess there is little I can do about that, I can't force him to feed.

Sorry to have so much about breasts in my posts at the moment, especially to those who haven't hatched yet and to whom they must be annoying - at least i have my baby! I can see therefore where people are coming from about having a separate thread for those who have already delivered to talk about these kinds of things. Which would be better, for us all to stay and talk about everything on this thread, or for us to set up a different thread and promise to come to both until everyone has graduated? What do people think?

aberdeenhiker · 16/06/2008 10:47

josey - Olivia's gorgeous, what a head of hair!

Can we all stay together on this thread? I know that it seems like there's a difference right now between those still waiting and those who've popped already, but it feels like we're a team and I'd hate to split up. Plus any newborn queries and stuff might be relevant to others in a week's time and it's hard to follow two threads at once (for me). Lots of hugs to everyone still waiting for their baby to arrive!

sybilvimes - Fraser's still learning to breastfeed too and that feels a bit like he's struggling sometimes. He's not eating much at night because he's sleepy, which means he feeds more often than in the daytime, but since we went through this all with DS1 too, I'm just trying to remind myself that it's still really early days yet.

And a request for info - anyone else struggling with stitches that aren't healing? I'm at day 9 now and mine still are really sore sometimes with a sharp, stinging pain that just about floors me. The rest of my fanjo is healing, but the stitches still feel raw and new and much worse than with DS1 (the downside of a quick birth with a 9lb baby with a 90th %ile head!). My midwife is rather nonchalant about it and hates to check things out, but I'm getting a bit worried. And I pulled a muscle in my abs two days ago lifting DS1 so I'm a bit of a mess. Advice?

bitofadramaqueen · 16/06/2008 11:06

ktpie and mellymell - glad its not just me! My bump is noticeably lower this morning, hoping that's a good sign?!?!? Sorry you're overdue though mellymell I can imagine how frustrating that would be. ktpie I saw quite a lot of family over the weekend and they were all, ooh, only a week to go and I kept having to say it could be three weeks you know! I suspect the phone calls will build up as the week goes on.

My bump was a very strange shape this morning - the baby's bottom was sticking out at a wierd angle, and was clearly in a deep sleep because all the gentle prodding in the world wasn't shifting it at all!

I was holding a newborn baby yesterday which was lovely - it was definitely after a feed from me which made me laugh, and it also prompted a strange sensation in my boobs which was a bit wierd!

sybil feel free to keep talking about BF issues - its really useful to hear about the things you guys that have hatched are facing.

libralady good luck in your last week at work - hope you get to take it easy.

josey gorgeous pic of Olivia - I'm sorry that she didn't have the best of days yesterday, but glad to hear that you're still being strong.

poppy34 · 16/06/2008 11:18

the bum wiggling thing is happening to you too -just thought I was giving birth to beyonce BDQ

practice contractions starting to get stronger.. is this a good sign [she says all hopefully]

fungle · 16/06/2008 11:23

Morning All. Well, I really thought things may be beginning yesterday. Had had backache and period pains Sat night/sun morn, got up and felt nothing unusual, but as the day progressed had lots of BH and slight 'pain' in lower abdomen. Felt very emotional and had to come home from party in the afternoon. Then, around 9pm had a kind of contraction and lots of pelvic floor butting from LO which actually made me shout outloud it hurt so much. Then nothing.
So, DP has gone off to London for the working week. Im left feeling a bit deflated.
Due date tomorrow.

LauraT · 16/06/2008 11:25

I'm still here too, and not due for 10 days, but I like to hear all the questions and advice about newborns that those who have graduated have... I'm sure you all promised a few weeks ago you wouldn't leave us behind don't go...

Josey Olivia is beautiful, I hope she has a better day today.

DLM congratulations on your suprise girl, I have to be honest and say I would pronounce it Ann - Win there was welsh girl in my class at school pronounced that way. I think it's a lovely name pronounced either way though!

Essie wow a secretary to type your message while you're in the bath! well done Mr Essie! hope all has restarted.

Alipalli I guess you'll be well on your way by now!

everyone else who's produced that I've missed big congratulations!

Sponge should be a Mum by now too I think...

debinaustria · 16/06/2008 11:33

Mellymell - As you know I'm due the same day as you, or I was and still no signs here either, I start getting BH and then it all dies down - so frustrating, I'm being induced on Thursday but so hoping that he comes naturally before then.

Sophie - thanks for asking, Sil's wedding is on 20th July, Aunt and cousin are renting our small apartment so that problem is solved. Dh, and the boys have their suits and shoes etc.. all sorted, but I still have the headache of finding something after the baby arrives, which will hide the big flabby stomach and also let me breastfeed. The choice here isn't great unless I trail into Salzburg and I don't know if I will fancy that with a newborn. I did find one dress today but obviously can't try anything on yet!!I can order online but I really need to try on.

Sybil - I would recommend massaging breasts toward the nipples as baby feeds, I found this site the other day, which I found quite interesting, the DR on there advocates holding baby differently than I did before but would make the massaging of the breast much easier. Worth having a look and see what you think.I had problems with mastitis with both boys so I think I will give it a go this time.

AH - I think we should all stay together, I don't think any non-graduates mind the questions and like you say you can glean useful info from other people's problems.

DQ - It's supposed to be one of the ways of starting off labour to hold a newborn and especially if it was trying to feed from you. Just wish I knew someone here with a newborn!!

ErnestTheBavarian · 16/06/2008 12:35

deb - 'pop' over her. 2. advantages - you can hold my newborn & you can bet on sod's law you'll go into labour when you're 1.5 hours away from hospital

PregnantPenguin · 16/06/2008 12:35

Hello ladies. I have been lurking rather than posting recently. Still Mrs Fat and Grumpy, nothing happening for me (4 days overdue).

Essie - Hope you're having your little one as I type and the frustration of starting and stopping is over. Same wishes to everyone experiencing on/off labours.

Personally I would prefer not to split into two threads...at least this way I can see exactly what it is I'm waiting for! (And it reminds me to try and enjoy having unmolested nipples whilst I can).

In exactly 1&1/2 hours I should be a home owner (for the first time ever!). However as I am pretty much house bound I won't see the new house until DH gets home to drive me there this evening. Looking forward to it though. Think we are planning to do the full move next weekend. Perhaps the LO has decided he won't turn up until we're settled there...?

Josey - You and your family are an amazing inspiration to us all. Loving Olivia's mad hair and fighting spirit.

bitofadramaqueen · 16/06/2008 12:39

Good luck with the home owning PP and LOL at Ernest suggestion that you should pop over and visit Deb - she's right, sod's law is that you WILL go into labour 1.5 hours away from home I think I might start stalking my NCT classmates who've had their babies in the hope that it might trigger something...

PearTart · 16/06/2008 12:39

Mellymel, Deb, Ktpie and all the others waiting desperately, I share your pain!!
I have tried:-
pineapple, curry, long walks (so much I have hurt my back), reflexology, aromatherapy, bouncing on the birthing ball, hot bath, big swims, cuddling newborns, RLT, nutmeg, etc etc
Mellymel- I also decided that this babe was not going to be late (DD1 was 9 days over) And I know that this one is bigger already. I'm seriously huffed off! My bump is so descended that it's practically subterranean! And no action to speak of apart form a few BH's...

I have almost become a moon-worshiper as I'm putting all my hope on Wed's full moon to encourage her out. How desperate is that!?

Sybil- I'm glad your boobs are recovering, if there are engorged/ lumpy areas it may be best trying to position baby's chin towards the engorged part. This is because the baby "strips" milk with it's tongue from the direction of the lower jaw area rather than the top jaw. May require lying down or rugby-ball hold.

Josey- Olivia looks gorgeous, so glad your babe is a fighter.

PearTart · 16/06/2008 12:43

I also vote to stay on same thread- it helps to know that some of us have had babies!

PP- congrats on becoming a home-owner- virtual glass of champers to you. I hope it, or the relief from completing will set you off in labour.

ktpie · 16/06/2008 13:13

PP - congrats on the house! I just wish someone would come and buy ours! Got some new estate agents but so far have heard nothing.

DQ - we should look at it as a maximum of 3 weeks, we've done 39 so 3 isn't many!
