I'm always amazed at how much has happened to people in between times me looking on this thread....

So sorry TLQ glad you have support. Best wishes for the future.

mel2005 GOSH!! How amazing!! Blimey, & I'm scared about having one!! I can't wait for my scan now - not until next Weds. I feel massive enough for twins, but I think it'll be one plus a food baby - I'm just craving stodge right now. In fact, I've just eaten 3 cherry bakewells in a row. Surely that's not good?!

MissHairspray · 25/06/2008 21:26

Evening ladies, been on holiday so been a while since I could catch up. So sorry nonickname and ticklist its sad when someone has to leave the group. Good luck for the next few weeks.

mel that's really scary but exciting too. I was wondering who would be the first to find out they were expecting twins. My MIL is convinced i'm going to have them too because they 'run in the family' but i'm no where near ill enough or big enough.

I'm 12 weeks today and the sickness and emotional episodes have died down, so feeling much perkier. Got my first scan tomorrow (nuchal) and am a bit nervous in case everything isn't OK but who isn't.

Very sorry to hear your news TLQ

MissMitford, a 12 week scan wouldn't be that late, my hospital refers to 10 week scan but my first was 12+2 (I was on holiday so it couldn't have been sooner) and this one is 11+2. However, I estimate from your due date that you're now 8+3 and that (subtracting 18 days from me at 11 weeks due 13 Jan) means that you'll be over 13 weeks on 29 July. It does seem a bit late. Do you know your plans re testing and things? - as if you're wanting to have nuchal etc tests that's a more concrete reason to try and get the scan brought forward than wanting to know how things are. I do know how you feel, I'm so impatient.

I saw the mw who delivered ds last year today. I had blood tests and stuff, but the worst part for me was being weighed. In my first pregnancy I only put on 4 lb between week 12 and week 40 (due to sickness and lack of appetite), this time I seem to have put on that much in the last 4 weeks. I've been booked in for a glucose tolerance test (for diabetes) in October. Ick. Never mind, can't do much about it now, can I? On a more positive note, I also remembered to ask about a refresher antenatal hospital class and I've been booked in already even though it's 6 whole months away. And I will get my antenatal appointments at the local health centre (less than 5 mins walk from home) or the Children's Centre (about 10 minutes).

elkiedee · 25/06/2008 23:31

Miss Hairspray, welcome back and good luck for tomorrow.

chefswife · 26/06/2008 01:56

ticklist so sorry to hear your news. glad to hear you are doing well considering.

thanks everyone for your support with DH. we made it through the mw meeting without a glitch. i breeched the subject with her stating that i wanted a home birth and DH wanted a hospital birth. she said that was the normal reaction of husbands and partners. they feel the need to protect but woman feel more comfortable because they are pregnant 24/7. she gave him lots of information in favour of home birth but didn't sway him in that it is a discussion for us. which we haven't yet as i am reluctant. i am going to let him bring it up. i understand that if there is complications i will have to go to the hospital but planning for a home birth is first. my mw has delivered over 2000 babies between Germany and British Columbia and about 20 years experience and has 2 little ones, 6 and 8. she was soooo lovely. the highlight of the meeting was hearing little henry's heartbeat. i was blown away and DH got teary eyed. it was surreal.

tinkisexcited · 26/06/2008 08:12

Periwink · 26/06/2008 09:45

Ticklist - sorry to hear your news, hope you will be back on Mumsnet soon!

Chefswife - good to hear the midwife appointment went well.

I had my midwife appointment booked for yesterday at 1.30pm when I got to the antenatal dept at hospital they said that they did not have me down for an appointment and that I was not even registered on the system, funny that as I only had my nuchal scan last week. Oh anyway I had the receiptionist take down all my medical details whilst they searched for me on the system. Receptionist said that there was no midwife to see me but she would go through my medical histroy and inform me of all my tests and do's and dont's - oh I felt really reasssured. Anyway they have rebooked my appointment in two weeks time. The icing on the cake was when the receptionist said that I would need my Nuchal scan booked (after I told her I already had one) and she had booked it for me in August (what a laugh). I was not impressed and very dissapointed and just burst into tears. Not quite how I had expected my midwife (or lack thereof) appointment to go.

I hope that all your midwife appointments are more positive and reassuring!

Oh and good luck for the others having Nuchal scans and first time scans - I know it is such an anxious but very exciting time.

fymandbean · 26/06/2008 10:45

sorry to hear your news TLQ

Missmitford = I am also not going to be scanned until 21st July (ages away) when I will be 13+2. Apparently you need to be between 11 and 13+6 for the Nuchal scan - I am going to try to move it so I am just over 12 weeks.

tinkisexcited · 26/06/2008 11:15

hi periwink sorry for you mean appointment that usnt good enough

elkiedee · 26/06/2008 11:42

Periwink, what an awful experience.

Periwink · 26/06/2008 12:05

Thanks Tink and Elkie - I am going to remain calm & positive and see how the next appointment goes. If the midwife does not instill confidence in me I might look at changing hospitals. It is just that out of the two hospitals in my catchment area this hospital was recommended to me above the other one. Best not to panic!

largeginandtonic · 26/06/2008 12:17

Afternoon all

So sorry TLQ and nonickname Awful news, keep positive for future babies.

at Mel Oh twins are easy Mel

No really they are fab, get your bum over to the multiples thread, endless tales to enthrall and scare the bejesus out of you.

FLF why the grump?

Peri shocking treatment, hope the midwife (when you find her) is lovely.

scared1976 · 26/06/2008 19:16

hey ladies

so listen to this. i just got my booking meeting appt thru - my first letter from the hosiptal - and it is for MID AUGUST!

By which time Ill be almost 5 months pregnant.

Seriously, tell me this is NOT normal.

Aniyan · 26/06/2008 19:31

I don't think this is normal at all , scared1976 - ring them and query it - may be an admin error but you have to get onto it asap and get stroppy if necessary!

scared1976 · 26/06/2008 19:43

hmm i thought not

i have had scans privately, and am having screening privately. i even went to see a midwife and paid as my GP was so sh*t. But they dont know any of that so I thought it was very strange!!!

LenniEd · 26/06/2008 19:52

Hi everyone,

Went to the midwife today. Nothing they can do about the locked nose - will go when I have the baby apparently. Feeling a bit fed up about it as I can't sleep properly - oh well.

She had a quick check for a heartbeat and thought she found it and then lost it before she could be sure. Baby was low in my pelvis - was 9am and had only had half a glass of water to drink - so she wasn't overly worried but I would have liked the reassurance. Only got to wait until Monday for my scan now though. Just praying everything is ok.

Hope you are all OK. Those of you worrying about late appointments, Aniyan is right, ring the hospital and ask for an earlier one and explain that you will be however pregnant you will be by then. Midwife appointments are usually fairly sparse until about 5 months pg though. I only saw the mw twice last time before my 20 week scan. Its only when you get to about 30weeks that it gets more regular ime anyway.

LenniEd · 26/06/2008 19:53

blocked nose

MsSparkle · 26/06/2008 19:58

Evening all,

Periwink i'm sorry to hear your appointment didn't go well

Scared that doesn't sound right. I would query it, i had a mix up with the hospital when pregnant with dd. Makes you think they have Mr Bean running the show

elkiedee · 26/06/2008 19:58

scared, that seems much too late. In my first pregnancy I was given a first mw appt that seemed a bit late - fortunately though I didn't know what to expect they must have realised they'd made a mistake, or maybe my lovely GP questioned it - she's quite good on following things up. As Aniyan said, phone up tomorrow.

elkiedee · 26/06/2008 20:08

Scared, I can't remember if you've said anything about where you live, but if it's not so isolated that there's no choice, I'd think about changing GP. I was going to move doctors to the health centre that's been built very near home since I registered with mine, but then I discovered I was pg and I felt very comfortable with my GP, she's now DS's doctor as well. It would be good for you and your child to have someone you trust if it's possible to find that doctor.

Periwink · 26/06/2008 21:01

Scared - that is definitely not right! I had to keep ringing the hospital for my appointments - just be persistent.

Thanks LargeG&T and MsSparkle.

scared1976 · 26/06/2008 21:57

thanks ladies. i live in central london so figured was weird.

MissHairspray · 27/06/2008 08:57

Good morning ladies, I had my 12 week nuchal scan yesterday and saw my lovely dancing baby!It was so great - I know it sounds silly but without having any 'medical' confirmation I was half convinced there would be nothing there, but there it was, stretching and waving. Baby was facing us and refused to turn round which made measuring the nuchal fold tricky but the measurement they did get was very low so i'm not too worried about the final results. To celebrate we went straight out and indulged some lovely newborn clothes which I know will probably be only worn once but I don't care! Next buy maternity jeans!

Pics are on my profile if anyone wants a look. Have a good day xxx

tinkisexcited · 27/06/2008 09:24

morning
thats is late scared would definetly ring up
lenni glad u have a blocked nose and not a locked nose lol sounds mean
great news about scan miss hairspray i have mine a wk mon and having nuchal

LooseyC · 27/06/2008 09:45

Morning everyone - Great news to start the day off MissHairspray, well done! I had a small dc1 so the few newborn clothes I had got washed about 100 times and look like they've been used by many, many babies. The next one is still going to inherit them though!

My scan is still 12 days away - I'm simply going BANANAS waiting! Feels like I can't do anything until then really. But I guess we are lucky to have them, must have been so different in the past...
