Sorry to hear things have been so rubbish with your boss oops. Hope you manage to get to your tour tomorrow and receive an apology or two. Hope you're feeling a bit better too after some self-pampering CC and Miamla.

Thanks for the heads-up about the Cairnie trip Dizzy. Sadly Tuesday is the only afternoon that I work. Let me know if you fancy a meet-up another time though.

V. jealous of all your maternity leave. I thought I got a pretty good deal, but am now realising maybe not so much. I get 16 weeks of full pay, 23 weeks of SMP and then the option of another 13 weeks unpaid. Won't manage the last 13 weeks, but hoping to take the rest and with holidays that I've saved up beforehand then what I'll accrue while I'm off I'm hoping to get 11 months, so can't complain really!

With you on the cooking Dizzy - esp. as housework avoidance. Any lasagne left? Had a lazy night tonight so just rather a lot of technically forbidden cheese and tomato salad. Oh and a Mars bar .

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 22:29

ah noooo poppy its not set in stone so will let you know

over mars bar

TwilightSurfer · 10/06/2008 22:32

OKAY is anyone else having issues with misjudging belly distance? I've smacked my bump at least three times today!!

Dh just come in - left clients at hotel bar - bringing pizza express to cheer me up!! also magnum white - his idea of a joke after reading TS comment.

Dizzy thanks for the offer - just what they need.

TS - I guess they have sudeenly realised I am going to have this baby and I would love to tell her where to go but little bloke is too attached for me to just walk out on him. I told them I am staying for the kids they have never known anyone els.

On the maternity leave front - i only get the statutory min - 6 weeks at 90%, 33 weeks at £117.20 and the 26 unpaid. After today definitely not going back but won't tell them until next feb - due back in May.

Going to sleep now and hope to sleep tonight.

oopsacoconut · 10/06/2008 22:41

oooh I cannot spell anymore - should use preview before posting!!!

dizzydixies · 10/06/2008 22:42

night oops, enjoy your magnum lol

TwilightSurfer · 10/06/2008 22:46

Oppsa you're commitment is commendable but don't allow the attachment to cloud your judgement. Do what's best for YOU and the LO!!

Oops can't believe your work colleagues - what a nightmare. Don't blame you for getting upset.

Anyway hopefully you can all now feel sorry for me as I only get 12 weeks fully paid and nothing after that. I asked my boss if I could have another 3 months unpaid but he said no as he doesn't want to set a precedent so I am resigning (or look like he is favouring the only other expat in the department). I can't come back to a job that has me here 12 hours most days with a 3 month old. I am trying really hard to hold my tounge as most of my colleagues leave their newborns with their grandparents (some of whom live five hours drive away) and only see them at the weekends. I'm trying really hard not to be judgemental as provided Mum is happy then I'm sure kids will be too but personally I can't help thinking what's the point in having kids if that's the case!

Had scan on Friday. Baby breech at the moment but lots of movement so possibly turning round. I'm still not having an Asian baby and baby is currently 1.6kgs (on the large side I think). I have to go for GD test on Saturday morning....

CaptainCaveman · 11/06/2008 08:46

oops at your selfish bosses. He deserves a kick in the nads and she wants a good bop on the nose and hair yanking (I fight like a girl!). How bloody bloody bloody unappreciative and archaic are they?! Hoping they have arranged cover for you for tonight?

expectant what is an Asian baby? Sorry to be dim! Welcome to the breech club too - 3 members so far, TS, me and you. Anyone else care to join us?!

I managed to sleep past 2am today! Woke up at 4 though for 45 mins but did get back to sleep around 5. Very glad not to be at work. I plan to tidy (superficially you understand!) and then sit with my feet up doing my jigsaw.

So, what are you all up to today?

Am still laughing at my vision of Mr Ed (the horse) knocking at TS front door!

CaptainCaveman · 11/06/2008 08:48

Oh and I'm with you TS on the misjuding bump sizeage. Keep knocking poor Jerry on chairs etc as I squeeze my elephantine slimline frame past. Also have had to re-park the car on more than one occasion as I couldn't physically get out due to lack of space!

Expectant · 11/06/2008 08:49

Sorry I live in Singapore and my doctor keeps telling me that the baby is obviously western as it is on the large side (asian babies having a lower average birth weight)...

VG, thank you but i'm so glad i didn't read your message yesterday, it would definitely have set the tears rolling!thanks for the penguin,i hope you found a good home for the rest of the packet! i'm working silly hours at the moment (8.30 til 6.30/7, and with an hour of travelling each way, they're really long days) so its a mixture of being pregnant and just generally exhausted from work. i did feel alot better after i'd ran away and sat on a step for an hour. And actually, got loads done last night at home (supermarket shop and pet shop trip for a new cat flap). perhaps i did too much though, woken up feeling really dizzy so i'm working from home today. i'm so lucky my company are so understanding. although to be fair, if we weren't having to work so hard in our dept at the moment, i'm sure i'd be feeling alot better.

I'm thinking feeling dizzy is as much excuse as i need to have a warm apple pastry with cornish ice cream for breakfast. true? hope so because i've already scoffed it! still feeling dizzy but it tasted good!

oooh, i'm sitting on my bed at the moment and it would seem that the guys on the scaffolding have a very clear view of me! oops! hey ho, i'm decently dressed-ish so i'm not overly concerned. i really don't want to sit here with the curtains drawn so we'll have to put up with it!

for all those in London (and those with DAB radios), interesting chat re breastfeeding on LBC 97.3fm at the moment

Sazzles, i'm giggling at the image of your "silent hunter"! So did he get any? was it rabbit pie for tea?
cheese? prawn cocktail crisps? rice crispies and a haribo starmix? but surely you're missing a magnum or two!
this may be a really silly question but why is your DH sleeping with a babygro under his pillow?

TS i'm with you on the misjudging belly distance thing! although i seem to be hitting my boob more than belly. My right nipple is still a little tender from bashing it into the door on my midnight wee trip last night!

readyforbed · 11/06/2008 11:04

Hi, following the general trend of work issues, just needed a place to vent. New CEO now questioning the entire need for my team, unsettling everyone and generally being a pain in the arse. As i am main earner in the family this is causing real concern and I am feeling particularly vulnerable at the moment with being out of the equation over what is looking like a crucial period.
In fact everything at work is being F**king difficult just when i really don't need it. Had enough, want to leave, don't want to have the additional pressure of financial responsibility for the family (and a big mortgage) on top.

Buckets · 11/06/2008 11:27

Poor you Readyforbed, do you think there'd be a redundancy package in it if the worst came to the worst? We are crossing fingers for my DH to get the chop in the next month as he wants to quit after paternity leave anyway and word has just gone out about 900 job losses! Could be a good opportunity to start afresh.

Poor Oops too, has it only just occurred to your family that they are employers and have certain responsibilities to go with all the fabbo benefits of a nanny? You mustn't quit, that's probably what they're hoping for so they will get out of the deal. Just start doing exactly what you're paid to do and make them realise just what they've had for free all this time. If they stand you up tonight, write out a special invoice and charge time and a half AT LEAST.

DD has been sent home from school as she was sick last night and apparently should have kept her off . She was so jolly and bubbly this morning for once I just carried on as if nothing had happened but she obviously felt the need to boast about being sick in a potty to her teacher.

Gotta do Tesco shop online now, have added baked beans, waffles and cottage cheese to the list.

readyforbed · 11/06/2008 11:40

Hi Buckets, am trying not to get too stressed about it - think there would have to be a very good reason to do it, and hopefully a decent redunancy package if it came to is, but still don't need the extra pressure. I would be less concerned if he didn't seem to be underhandedly talking to other people about it. but will just have to wait and see.

On a brighter note (not going to let the bastard ruin my entire day). Went to the midwife yesterday, all well. Baby is head down - when i told DH he looked terrified and said 'what already?! (29 weeks)'. I then had to explain the difference between a head down position and the head being engaged - you would have thought he would know by #3!

CaptainCaveman · 11/06/2008 12:04

lol at your dh rfb! Sorry work is crap atm, you need some time off to relax - which coincidentally is just what I am doing!

Been and had my pedicure - and had a manicure too! . Not bad for £27. Spent 2 hours in there being pampered and enjoying a nice chat with the beautician.

Friend just texted to say she's had a little boy - he looks gorgeous in the piccie!! I'm off to put my feet up and RELAX

TwilightSurfer · 11/06/2008 12:16

Morning all. Just up making biscuits and bacon. Feel like CRAP! Mad a DH who went across the street to "help" our neighbor with something at 7PM last night only to return stinking drunk at 1AM, waking me. I angrily told him to GO AWAY. Now he's still in bed and I'm thinking he's going to skip out on work.

Captain, your pretty toes and fingers. I must add that too my list of things to do soon.

Sorry to all about work issues. Motherhood is a hard act to juggle.

OP posts:
cyteen · 11/06/2008 12:58

oops I can't believe how crap your employers are being! If you want any help dishing out the slaps, let me know - I'll be happy to oblige.

Been to see my new midwife this morning, she's lovely. Very down to earth. She enthused about the mw-led birth centre a lot, and thinks I am carrying 'a little boy with attitude' as yet again he spent the examination kicking the doppler Apparently I'm measuring 31 weeks (am 29) but thanks to all the discussion on here about fundal measurement I'm not too worried.

I feel like absolute shit today though as the FUCKING BASTARD CAT kept us awake all fucking night I wish he would just be a normal cat and not so much of a hyperactive wanker:

2am: ooh, feels like feeding time purr purr purr miaow miaow miaow claw claw claw4am: oh look, the next door neighbour is getting into a car and going somewhere, I'd better stomp across both sleeping humans with my massive donkey feet and try and climb onto the sheer surface of the window before falling off and miaowing some more.

5am: ooh, a magpie gracking on the roofs next door, that's exciting, that warrants a fresh outburst of insane wriggling and miaowing. Oh, you've shut me out of the bedroom. Well in that case I'd better sit outside the door howling like a sick Siamese and scratching the door until one or both of you storm out and shut me in the conservatory.

So now I'm supposed to be studying all day but feel so tired and washed-out that I can't it see happening...it's hard to concentrate on postmodernist deconstruction of physical tropes when your eyes feel like they're full of sand.

In other news, I think my baby has undergone a growth spurt lately as, after being quite quiet for a few days, he has started making the most incredible shifting motions. The surface of my stomach looks like it's undergoing an earthquake, and I can feel big solid body parts shifting about under the skin He feels huge! Apparently he was lying transverse when the mw examined me earlier...awkward sod. I shall be doing a lot of positioning exercises come July just in case he decides he likes it there, I really don't want a section if possible.

Wishing you all a lazy day

Buckets · 11/06/2008 13:48

My bump went the most bizarre shape last night during a contraction. There was a big hard lump on either side and where my navel is usually flat, it was sucked right in at least an inch - I looked like a camel with 2 humps! No idea what position he is usually, either back to back or just totally free and spinny still given the lumpy shapes that get thrown against the front.
Overspent on Tesco shop again, how can one family of four spend over £60 a week? At Tesco???

CaptainCaveman · 11/06/2008 14:12

lol at dancing babies 'throwing some shapes' in the womb. I've been watching Jerry with interest whilst lying of the sofa for the past hour. I can feel little hands (or elbows) gliding slowly beneath my ribs, then get some pelvic kicking, followed by a braxton hicks which seems to 'vaccuum pack' him in there!

CaptainCaveman · 11/06/2008 14:14

cyteen don't you chuck the cat out at night? Or is it still indoors after your move? Our Hobbes gets booted out, or he's learnt to stay quiet when he stays in. He often sleeps on my feet but knows better than to ask for food at stupid a.m.
Your essay sounds enthralling . Wouldn't you rather read the Wilbur Smith book I'm reading? I'm just about to put it down and pick up the 4 year old jigsaw!!

Shazza2002 · 11/06/2008 14:34

Afternoon all

sazzles You have caught me out, ok maybe I let him out the room for loo breaks but it was a lot like what you said

readyforbed If you are pregnant or on maternity leave you are one of the most protected employees. I know you would just rather have a job at the end of the day but you are more secure. Not sure what I'm trying to say really but just hoping it helps.
