Sorry if I offended you, Uwila. Didn't mean to, just amazed at how someone could change their whole life to that extent! Glad to hear that we are all making the most of our excuse not to diet...

Today I went out in public wearing dh's shirt for the first time. It's a depressing milestone for me. Is everyone else feeling that their wardrobe is significantly diminishing in size?

Uwila · 29/01/2005 23:08

No offense taken. I just mentioned that I was American to establish that I was qualified to speak on the matter. I think you probably find people who go a bit over the top anywhere.

Anyway, yes my wardrobe is quickly diminishing. But, I have to say that I find nothing attractive about maternity clothes, so can't really see splashing out £hundreds more to build up the wardrobe.

Hope everyone is well... and enjoying cooked sushi.

Brighteyes · 30/01/2005 09:59

Logic I'm feeling really depressed about my clothes at the moment. I can honestly say that even my maternity clothes are getting to small . No problem with trousers as I havent put on weight anywhere else apart from boobs and bump. 2 of the maternity shirts I wear to work are strainning at the seams, I can no longer wear them.
Everyone keeps commenting how big I am, lost count of the people who have told be I look 9 months pg already. Even the midwife was shocked at my last appointment and checked through my scan dates because she didn't believe me when I said I was 24 weeks at the time.
Once I convinced her she had a feel of my bump and said the baby wasnt particularly big but since I'm only 5ft (dp is 6ft) the baby is growing the only way it can and thats outwards.
God help me in a couple of months.

brighteyes - at our NCT classes last time we were shown a full size picture of a 6lb baby and a 9lb baby - if you held them up to each other there was barely any difference in size. And you've got a chance of a normal size child - we're both very short, so ours has no chance!

myermay, strangely the birth is just about the one thing I'm not anxious about. Well, not from my point of view anyway. My only fear, I guess, is just because with ds everything went so well that I am scared I won't be able to cope (especially considering the AND) if it isn't as smooth this time. But my greatest fear, I've realised, is something going wrong with the baby. Rationally I know that the chances are sooooo tiny as to be not worth worrying about, but try telling that to my head! I know what you mean though.

Brighteyes, one friend from antenatal class had an enormous bump - I mean really out of proportion huge - and the baby wasn't that big and she had a totally textbook, natural birth. Sometimes you just get a lot of fluid I think. If you are really worried, could you ask for a growth scan?

I am a bit nervous about the birth too, especially about having stitches because I didn't need any last time. That makes no sense at all does it? I expect though that by the time I reach my due date I will be desperate for labour to start. Actually, who am I kidding, I'm desperate now!

Brighteyes · 31/01/2005 07:39

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. Logic I think you're right and its mainly fluid becuase the midwife didn't think the baby was that big and if anything my scans show the baby as slightly small for my due date. Just going to have to get bigger maternity clothes I think.

SamCattie · 01/02/2005 13:57

Brighteyes o don't worry as I have a huge bump too. I am 24 weeks pregnant and everyone keeps saying i look more like 8 or 9. I am quite a smallish frame and my maternity trousers are getting too tight for me. So don't worry it happens to a lot of us

northstar · 01/02/2005 14:27

Cheer up girls, we're almost in the third AND FINAL trimester!!!!!! I think it has flown by so far, and now it's february already. There will be a due in October thread soon so how lucky are we!

Uwila · 01/02/2005 14:44

Oh northstar, that does brighten my day. When does the third trimester begin? 26, 27 weeks? That's still about a month away for me. But, it's still close enough to look forward to. yippee.

Hope everyone is well. And, yes, I too am one of those luck soles who outgrow maternity clothes. I'm soo glad I'm not the only one.

fisil · 01/02/2005 16:31

I'm in the 3rd trimester already! My book said 27 weeks, but I've seen different times.

There should be a due October thread already - I'm sure I knew this time last year that I was pg - and I was due in the middle of October.

Just because people say we're huge, doesn't mean we are - all the time people seem to pass comment like "wow, you must be ready to drop" etc. Grrrr.

Uwila · 01/02/2005 16:36

Yeah, and just because people say your not huge (to your face) doesn't mean you're not.

Someone in the office told me I look huge today, nice and tactful! My friends who have had babies say I look tiny for nearly 6 months! And I feel huge!! Feeling really uncomfortable in all my clothes at the mo, even maternity ones. Love being pregnant but wish I still felt sexy

Feels like May is just around the corner! I'm so busy at work that I've been neglecting the preparations. Think I need to take a holiday

maymum · 01/02/2005 17:17

I've learnt so many things that you should NOT say to a pregnant lady since being pregnant myself. Top of the list are: 'Your bump is huge' and 'you haven't got much of a bump yet'!!!

Feel like I've been pregnant for years and still feel I've got ages to go. Think it's because I did get pregnant in May last year and miscarried so feel as though I've been pregnant since then. And I'm huge already!

SamCattie · 02/02/2005 08:34

DO you know the other annoying thing? When someone at work comes up to you and touches your bump. Is it just me or does this feel really uncomfortable?

Uwila · 02/02/2005 08:52

Oooh, Sam, no one has done that to me; but I'll be sure to smack them if they do.

Vic- Had my sushi last night. It was relly good, and the variety of cooked stuff was pretty good too. I think I told you the place is caMinami. It is now called Makiyaki.

fisil · 02/02/2005 09:52

Sam, I either tell them I don't like it, or even better, touch their tummy back!

OP posts:
LittleB · 02/02/2005 10:07

Love the idea of touching their tummy back, this has only happened to me this week, so far only close friends and family, and a colleague I really like has done it, so I don't mind too much.
Yesterday I was told I looked huge, and told I wasn't showing much! To me it feels huge. but doesn't show alot in the sweatshirts I wear for my job, which is a bit of a shame, at the moment I feel like I want the world to know I'm pregnant! Other annoying things people keep asking me are how many more children we'll have! We haven't even had one yet - how do we know?!

logic · 02/02/2005 10:54

LittleB, we always tell people we're going to have one child at a time That shuts them up.

I am feeling huge too and waddling but my physio has given me a very fetching elastic back support that I need to wear in the day time. It's fantastic and has stopped all back trouble and makes me feel much lighter.

Had my 28 week blood taken today in time to get the results back. Ruthless nurse put tape right across my arm and I've had to rip half my arm hair off to remove it. Ok, that may be a small exaggeration but it bloody feels like it!

northstar · 02/02/2005 11:03

ah logic thats the worst thing about the tests. When my glucose tolerance tests were done i had five lots of blood taken, one every hour. The worst part was the tape, it actually bruised under the skin removing it. They are due to be done in two weeks and im going to ask to just hold the cotton wool for a minute - it never really bleeds that much anyway.
My bump is small in the morning and big in the evening - anyone else?

LittleB · 02/02/2005 11:35

Logic, the back support sounds useful, I've been suffering from bach ache, mainly on my right hand side, do you know if doctors will get them for you, I'm seeing mine this afternoon, or do you see your pysio on the NHS?
I'm hoping I don't have to have glucose tests too, my glucose was up a little last time, so I'm trying not to eat anything sweet before I 'do' my sample for this afternoon.
