Hi Logic
Thanks for the tip. I looked at Jojomamanbebe (Whatever it is called) and found a lovely coat to my knees fleece type material. Just what I wanted!!!

LittleB · 27/01/2005 16:46

Preggar's bear in mind I have only got as far as sowning seeds at the moment - i'm hoping baby will let me look after veggies when they are planted,( I daydream about sunny days in garden with baby dozing in moses cot under tree - but this will be my first so my dreams may be a bit naive!), I may find that I'm too tired and they get neglected! I do love homegrown veg though, tastes so much better than shop bought - sweeter and more crunchy, basically I'm just a foodie! Wish I could grow chocolate too !

Preggars · 27/01/2005 17:26

I love chocolate too. Haven't had any today yet, but will be leaving work in 15 mins so might just get some on my way home

How is everyones eating going? Are you all hungrier? I ate more in the first 3 months as I got (both times) horrendous nausea and sickness, but I am back to normal now - bar the odd heave here and there! I find being pregnant very liberating on the food front. As I can eat without guilt, I don't think about food so much. Whereas, when I'm not pregnant, and on a permenant diet (!) I totally obsess about toast, chocolate, blah blah blah.

vicstervic · 27/01/2005 22:10

Mmmm... chocolate...! Had a tin of Roses on the desks at work today, and I lost count of chocs scoffed!

I ate LOADS in the first 12 weeks or so. Didn't suffer with sickness - which I'm grateful for - but had constant griping hunger. Loved my toast, bagels and biscuits. By 14 weeks or so my appetite was back to normal, but I've definitely been far less strict on things like chocolates than I would normally be. It's nice to be able to relax a bit. As long as we're still getting the right amount of fresh fruit and veg, then I don't think there's any harm in treats to help us along! The one thing I'm trying to fight the temptation for, though, is Tangfastics. Could easily get through a bag a day, but think that much sugar could send Junior hyper!

SamCattie · 28/01/2005 07:26

Its strange how everyone's passion is for chocolate right now!! I can normally take or leave the stuff, but since being pregnant I can't get enough of it!!! Bars, cakes, you name it!
Is anyone else having a girl who can't stop eating chocolate? Perhaps its linked?

logic · 28/01/2005 09:13

I am craving chocolate too. I really need to watch my calories, though. Determined not to get too fat this time. Dh isn't helping. If I see some lovely crisps or whatever in the supermarket and try to resist, he always throws them into the trolley for me anyway

When I was expecting ds, it was all boys too. Out of 14 kids in our antenatal group, there are just 3 girls! There seems to be a surge of them over the last few years.

fisil · 28/01/2005 10:59

I'm just eating the chocolate! I figure it's my last chance to eat what I want! I'll sort out the huge backside when I'm through!

Got my NCT class place - all classes in the week I'm due - one actually after I'm due! I said no thanks.

I absolutely adore tangfastics, but have stopped eating all jellie type sweets, as I was getting ulcers from hell!

As well as chocolate (a bar a day is keeping me happy), and love my cheese baguettes at lunch time. I was never a big cheese eater before, but cheese and tomatoe - mmm.

I do miss smoke salmon, prawns and other things not supposed to eat. Glad Christmas has passed, seemed strange not devouring a ton of smoked salmon!!

fashill · 28/01/2005 15:13

Can't stop eating cakes, chocs etc but hopefully not overdoing it!! Been trying to balance it out with lots of fruit and veg. I'm having a boy so maybe he'll be made of sugar and spice!!

vicstervic · 28/01/2005 16:34

Preggars - I'm sure you can have smoked salmon, as the smoking = cooking. I've certainly had it a couple of times, and friends have eaten it while pg. Anybody else any views?

fashill · 28/01/2005 16:46

I have eaten smoked salmon, although I was told by a friend that you shouldn't eat smoked food?!? Not sure what's right but it certainly hasn't stopped me although for some reason I don't buy smoked bacon! What a weirdo!!!

Uwila · 28/01/2005 17:24

I thought any fish or meat that is not properly cooked through was off limits. This causes problems with my love of tuna sushi. But, I just eat cooked sushi until I get little Alex out of my belly. And then I shal venture out on a drunken sushi binge... yum yum. Gives me something to look forward to.

However, there are a variety of pregnancy "don't dos" that I violate. So who am I to notice someone eating smoked salmon. Also, I don;t like smoked salmon so it's easy for me to stay away.

vicstervic · 28/01/2005 17:33

Here's Babycentre's view on the smoked salmon question - "Smoked salmon is rich in nutrients but do make sure it is fresh. In some countries, it's advised that pregnant women shouldn't eat cold meats or smoked fish. In the UK, we're not advised to avoid these products as the risk of listeria is very low. To be absolutely safe, stick to pre-packaged, date-stamped smoked salmon bought direct from your supermarket." Sounds as though it's one of those "we think it's OK but we're not guaranteeing it" things! I obviously have double standards, as I've avoided prawns even though some ladies eat them.

Uwila · 28/01/2005 17:48

on the up side, salmon is one of the best sources of the triomega fish oils. Good for baby's brain development.

vicstervic · 28/01/2005 17:59

Uwila - mmm.. I love sushi, and had it at least once a week before getting pg. Haven't seen any cooked sushi though - where do you get it from?

Uwila · 28/01/2005 18:08

Hiya vic-
California rolls are cooked. Anything tempura is cooked. I think you are in Richmond? There's a place in Kingston. It used to be called Minami and has just changed it's name, but I can't remember what to. It's near Sainsbury's. I went there the other night for some take away. It was lovely!!!!

Uwila · 28/01/2005 18:14

Or, just found this on a google search. No idea if it's any good.

Bangkok Sushi, 141 Upper Richmond Road Phone 0871 560 9861

vicstervic · 28/01/2005 18:19

Thanks Uwila. Doh - hadn't thought about california rolls being cooked - even though I used to eat them all the time! Means I can even get the M&S prepacked stuff for lunches at work. Is the Minami place just take-away, or is it eat-in like Yo Sushi?

All this talk of food is no good- have just texted DH asking him to bring choc home with him. (I've been WFH today and can't be bothered going out!)

Uwila · 28/01/2005 18:26

Oh no. It's a restaurant. You can also get non sushi Japanese meals, like chicken teriyaki. I even saw bulgogi on the menu, which is actually Korean. So I guess the new make over has splashed in a bit of Korean influence. I am going to this restaurant on Tuesday. I'll report back on the verdict. But, judging from my take-away it's really good.

Oh, I must ditch the office and go home and find something to eat now.

logic · 28/01/2005 19:04

My opinion on what you are or aren't "allowed" to eat is to just keep to the rules that you are happy with. Hardly any of it is proven advice anyway. I will quite happily eat peanut sauce but my pg friend nearly passed out with horror when she saw me eating it On the other hand, I try to avoid diet caffeine drinks. I have never heard of anyone having a disabled child due to anything that they ate or drank when pregnant!

Preggars · 28/01/2005 21:02

Good to hear that if I really need to I can have some smoked salmon!! Laughed a lot reading this thread to myself. DH would tell me off if he knew that I'd eaten a sneaky Boots prawn sandwich on my way home just before Christmas - I was really craving one. Also, had a handful of peanuts at Christmas.. which I didn't do carrying DS . All these rules. I feel like I am confessing!

I had the weeny bits of grey by my fringe coloured whilst carrying my DS, and this pregnancy I needed a boost, so I've had a few highlights. I know several people that have had highlights too whilst preggars.

Foodwise, I have only just started drinking tea (once a day) and the odd black coffee (a couple times a week) as I completely went off them at the beginning. Mother nature has guided me both pregnancies. I go completely off alcohol, caffeine, and most things in the first three months.

logic · 28/01/2005 22:49

Maybe in the states there is a lot more peer pressure to conform - scary though!

I have so stuffed my face today it's untrue: crisps, chocs, chinese takeaway and I still use the microwave and get my highlights done every 3 months so there I have confessed too.

Uwila · 29/01/2005 18:00

Don't think that's an American standard to act like that. I'm American, byt the way. Also, I wasn't aware that we had midwives in the states, so I'm a bit baffled by the notion of an American Midwife. In the US when you are pregnan, you go see your obstetrician and they provide your care. Never heard of anyone going to a midwife.

YEs, I do most of the things listed here. I get hights, I eat runny eggs (so long as they've been pasteurised), and I even drink an occasional beer. Oh, and I love peanut butter and jam sandwiches for breakfast... mmmmm. And as for diet soft drinks with caffeine, Diet Coke is my life. :-)
