Hi

Couldn't see a Feb thread so thought I would start one as am so excited to get a faint but definately positive HPT.

Fertility friend estimates a due date of 4th Feb.

Unfortunately (or fortunately)am off this afternoon for a hen weekend in Barcelona the first holiday in at least a year and a half and can't drink. Ohh well will have to be the responsible adult..... Hence checking to see if up the duff before I went drowning myself in Sangria.

Hope to see some others on here when I get back!!! If anyone cares to join me?

Tummy Trouble - I was in the gym the other day and the machine started flashing with a warning about my heartrate - I'm not amazingly overweight and thought that I was relatively fit but clearly the machine had other ideas - so for that reason I'm slightly nervous about going. I do sometimes go though to get away from the house and the chores leaving DH to look after DS and to stop DS following me round the house - I can't even get a pee in peace round here.....I could just try a brisk walk whilst watching Eastenders I suppose. I do have half a stone to shift but subject to all going well, I'm going to have to wait now to get rid of that (shame ....funnily enough I don't feel hungry or desperate for sweet things at the moment - I was like this with DS as well and went through a bit of a craving for healthy things early on. Let's see - maybe another boy eh

ruthmollymummy · 11/06/2008 07:47

Morning all, thought I'd let you know that I met up with a Doula yesterday and she was lovely!! I'm feeling really good about meeting her and am pretty sure I'm going to book her to help me.

She agreed to do some antenatal coaching with my best friend who will be there this time (who doesn't have kids yet). So yeah, if you're thinking about it I know its still early days but I'm glad I actually did something about it!!

6+2 and still not much going on here symptom-wise, still just absolutely shattered.

Singingintherain · 11/06/2008 07:52

Just wondering about the not getting hot thing. It is impossible for me here. I live in Spain and at the moment it is very warm especially at night so you have to keep activities down to a minimum iykwim.

Due to the heat I end up with palpatations and very bad sweats. Nobody has ever told me that getting hot is a problem, although I was advised not to take hot baths. We were up all night very thirsty due to the temperature and my fan was working overtime, but it just ended up blowing warm air around. I think that I may have to buy a airconditioning unit for the house to help.

LittleMissNorty · 11/06/2008 08:21

Morning all

Spoke to mw last night so its a bit more real.....although I also have no symptoms

As I have no idea of LMP, we made a generous estimate of 15th April as I won't be offered a scan until 11 weeks here (for Nuchal)

Don't think you can help getting hot, but should avoid very hot baths and jacuzzi's

herbgarden · 11/06/2008 08:56

ok, am off on hols tomorrow morning - they offer watersports (free) - do you think I should do them (sailing waterski-ing and windsurfing - don't fancy the last as hopeless - but do fancy the sailing waterski-ing - never done them before....) - bit worried about it ?
Also - I presume I need to tell my insurer that I'm pg?? Just in case anything happens whilst I'm there (x fingers). Help !!

loopylula · 11/06/2008 09:04

Herbgarden ? I am sure a little sailing won't hurt. Sounds fun. I am currently clearing up after my DD who has chosen to empty all the drawers in the study for her morning activities .

Despite finding it really hard to wake up this morning I am so far feeling fine. How is everyone else?

I have decided I will wait until next week before phoning mw to schedule the booking in appt.

LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 09:11

Herbgarden - I reckon you should do whatever you feel safe doing. Water is a pretty soft landing if you do fall in, so I reckon OK. Also this early on the little thing is very much concealed down low so not much can damage it. I carried on horse riding and cycling first time round and plan to keep cycling this time (even though I came off my bike with DD on board a couple of days ago - oops)

LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 09:32

RuthMollyMummy - What does the Doula offer. How much does it cost? Do you also need a seperate birth partner?

Obviously months and months to go yet, but my DH is away from home with work a lot (3-4 nights a week) and likely to continue that way for a while. So it seems reasonably likely that I could go into labour when he is not around.

Reckon I would be OK on my own if need be, but not sure if hospitals expect you to bring a birth partner.

Newb · 11/06/2008 09:36

Hi Herbgarden

I remember reading that waterski-ing is the one sport that is dangerous for women, as the speed of the water when you fall in could potentially whoosh up your bits, damage your ovaries etc. I would avoid it when pg. That said, I may be wrong, but worth a bit of research perhaps.

Nellstar · 11/06/2008 10:51

Just thought I'd let those of you contemplating a home birth know I had one and it was great if agony and horribly long! But DS1 got to be born in water in our sitting room surrounded by candles rather than under flourescent lights with hospital noise. I hadn't really made up my mind about it and was pretty terrified of anything going wrong but the midwives (from a home midwife team) said only 40% of their ladies eventually end up giving birth at home and they rush you to hospital at the first sign of trouble. We also live just 2 mins from the hospital. The good thing about booking in with home midwives is that you can take them with you to hospital. Ask around locally for any good home midwife teams. Hope that's of help. Plus, am officially due 13th Feb, but my calculations make it 18th. Hope everyone is doing ok.

PinkTulips · 11/06/2008 12:35

ladymac, i'm so sorry i hope you have lots of luck ttc... do try soon as i've heard the preg hormones remaining from a mc can actally improve your chances.

of all you energetic types doing your excercise! the local ladies have been trying to drag me down the road for raquett ball for weeks now and i'm way to lazy to bother have never really been the energetic type... suffice it to say my sport was always horseriding, where the poor horse has to do the work i i just have to sit there

am hoping for a homebirth but thanks to shitty irish healthcare system will have to pay so depends how much the only 2 homebirth mw's within 1.5 hours drive from me charge your experiance sounds lovely nellstar... agree with you about the mood in hospital being all wrong. both my labours ground to a halt when i set foot in the hospital as i get so stressed. although i was lucky last time that the student mw who stayed with me throughout labour was an absolute angel. turned off all the lights, massaged my back, dragged extra fans into the room for me, fought my corner when i said i needed to push and the senior mw didn't believe me (it took her seeing ds's head before she aknowledged there was a chance i might be right!).

even that time though where i knew what i wanted and had a birth plan written i felt like certain decisions were taken away from me.... and they refused to discharge me til 14 hours after his birth even though i had requested immediate discharge and was up and walking about half an hour after the birth.

ok, i have a question... are any of the other non first timers getting much worse and/or earlier symptoms than before?

it's freaking me out a little as with dd and ds i never got sick til about 8 weeks. with ds i threw up a grand total of 3 times the whole pregnancy!

this time i've been throwing up already at 5 weeks, really ill feeling since 4 weeks, unable to stay awake since 4 weeks (am under orders from dp to lock the doors as i keep falling asleep while watching the kids), have really bad headaches all this week and am so bloated non of my pants fit... was 7 months with dd before i showed and was still hiding ds's preg at 5 months!

dp is driving me mad suggesting twins and what with the really strong positive test and all these heavy symptoms i'm tempted to ask for an early scan to see is he right (apparently when he asked dd the other day did she think it was going to be a boy or girls she answered 'boy and girl, then we have 2 boys and 2 girls')

ok, babbling done. sorry about that essay!

LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 13:02

To put forward a different perspective - I felt totally relaxed in hospital.

Lighting was kept low, they brought me a range of cushions and mats so that I could move and lie in different positions. They even found a CD player with a few CDs as we had forgotten to bring one. Then I got into a huge birthing pool towards the end. The warm water really helped with those final contractions.

Best of all being able to walk away from all the blood and gubbins afterwards to a clean freshly ironed bed in another room.

LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 13:05

I even appreciated having a change of midwife every so often. Labour can last a long time and if you keep the same midwife throughout he or she is likely to be absolutely beyond shattered by the end.

I liked it when a new midwife arrived bright, shiny eyed and alert at the start of her shift .

PinkTulips · 11/06/2008 13:07

ah you see, therein lies the differance betweeen a good hospital and the absolute pits of hell that constitute the Irish healthcare system

i'd be very surprised to learn there's a single hospital in the country that has a birthing pool. cd players are banned, as are most other relaxing things like essential oils etc. and you're not allowed to give birth anywhere but on the bed so any standing or squatting positions are a no go.

they did bring me a birthing ball (whoop tee doo) but that was about the extent of it.

TummyTrouble · 11/06/2008 13:16

PinkTulips - I think 70% of women have morning sickness so perhaps you were just lucky on the last occassions. I read somewhere that girls make you more sick, but I think that's just an old wives tale. I had nothing with my first pregnancy, and was sick from day one with the second pregnancy. We are all different and each child affects us differently - so nothings unusual.

Do you have twins in the family? I think the chances are higher with twins on both sides or with IVF

Singingintherain - good luck with the fans - it will at least make you more comfortable as the temperature starts to soar and lots of water.

LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 13:19

Yup - I was lucky. I had a good birth. I do think it is worth reassuring first time mothers that there is such a thing as it is usually just the horror stories that get repeated and repeated.

PinkTulips · 11/06/2008 13:30

TT, was sick as a dog with dd.... but nothing at all til 8 weeks and only got bad after 10 weeks. was only with ds that i mostly escaped

lulubai... your right. sometimes we forget in our eagerness to complain that the poor first timers reading our posts are probably shitting themselves!

for what it's worth to all the first time moms here.... no matter how bad the birth, it's the health of your baby that concerns you afterwards.... all you care about is seeing that they're healthy and once you hold them in your arms it's surprising how irrelevant the birth seems in retrospect.

for me it seems to be in the next preg that i suddenly remember all the things that didn't go like i'd wanted them to last time round, and that's what birth plans are for.

Smittals · 11/06/2008 13:32

Have to resign from the thread - after symptoms, two faint positives, is now no symptoms and testing negative, so I guess I got excited far too early. Am not bloody testing again until I'm very very late, it's just too painful! But will be concentrating on next month and hopefully back on an antenatal thread soon!

leesmum · 11/06/2008 13:34

Wow i can't believe there are so many of you on here already!

I'm from the Feb 08 post-natal thread and time is flying by, my lo was due 2nd feb then 28th jan and finally arrived 19th jan, i can't believe he's nearly 5 months.

Enjoy your pregnancies and look after yourselves xxx

leesmum · 11/06/2008 13:35

Sorry Smittals x posted with you

TummyTrouble · 11/06/2008 13:40

Smittals - hope to see you back on the threads really soon.

PinkTulips · 11/06/2008 13:42

good luck for next month smittals, sorry you won't be staying with us

NoNickname · 11/06/2008 14:22

So sorry to hear your news Smittals, and hope you're back - on the March thread - very soon. If you haven't tried it, I can really recommend Fertility Friend. I had been trying for two and a half years, then conceived on the first month of using FF.

Nellstar · 11/06/2008 14:31

Sorry Smittals, take care and hope things work out next time.
Think you're right lulubai, I remember hearing nothing but horror stories, particularly whenever I mentioned that we might try for a home birth. And it's not very helpful. Your hospital experience sounds lovely. Just to let people know, home midwives work in shifts too. My labour went on for days so obviously it wasn't the same midwife! And you're right, the energy the new one brings is essential. Think they should be paid a lot lot more, they do an amazing job. God pinktulips, the Irish system sounds horrendous. What a nightmare. Re morning sickness, I was sick as a dog with DS1 but from week 6.

Florrieandme · 11/06/2008 14:50

Hello. Anyone around right now? I am actually at work but, being a teacher with a non-contact lesson right now, I thought I would try to catch up with the thread. I have been feeling so tired and sick each evening that getting the computer on has been just too much of an effort! Sorry - my thoughts have been with everyone!
I had my booking in with the MW last Saturday. She was lovely and agreed that I can do without having to see a consultant every month just because my last DD came, very quickly at 32 weeks! Seeing a consultant wouldn't have made any difference - she just wanted to get out!!
