Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

isaidno - I think 3 will be enough for me too I would like a fourth but after this pregnancy don't think I could do it all again plus 3 is just about doable in terms of bedrooms and car etc. I felt so sorry for that poor Asian woman she looked knackered.

Tjuice - am so about your cleaner coming I am having a bit of a cleaning day today well as much as I can. Enjoy your first day of maternity leave

pigley - we got a new bed about 18 months ago as our other one broke don't know why erm DD2 was still sleeping with us then so it wasn't from any noctural activities. Anyway we got a memory foam one and it is fab I so didn't want to get out of it. I am definitely getting some new bed linen though before the baby is born (erm better get on with it I suppose) red is out green is still a maybe, DP chose this very masculine blue striped duvet

EEC · 23/05/2008 10:55

Morning all. Off to see parents, sisters, nephews and nieces for long w/e. It will be tiring as there are 10 children altogether,(when we all get together there is so much noise and chaos, I just can not see how anyone can cope with 13!) - but at least I won't have to do any cleaning, washing cooking etc and my to do loist can be left behind!

Heffa · 23/05/2008 10:58

SK - I was getting some to use in my hospital bag and throw out afterwards but now have stacks of towels, which is quite useful because we don't have many. Can't remember the cost though.

Re nightwear - I have a tatty old nightie I thought I could wear for labour and then some big baggy ones for afterwards, and lots of pyjamas. All dark colours and cheap enough to be chucked out if necessary.

Just had a MW appt and she's agreed to stop taking weekly bloods since my blood tests are always fine and it's been a bit of a PITA. Baby's still head-down, which I wasn't expecting given the wriggling this week. I was quite impressed though - I asked for a cup of tea and they brought me a tray with biscuits/cup and saucer/teapot etc. Normally I just get a mug! There were two newborns on the ward as well (born yesterday) who I could hear crying, which made me really impatient to meet this one! It's such a lovely unit, can't wait to be transferred there afterwards.

Pigley - good luck with the redecorating, I've always loved sleigh beds!

People keep bugging me to put pictures of bump on Facebook too, I probably should do it at some point. I went through my friends list a while back and got rid of a randoms because I was posting scan pictures and got all precious and over-protective about people seeing the baby.

Heffa · 23/05/2008 11:03

EEC - hope you have a nice weekend!

I'm quite keen on having 3 or 4, but will have to see how I feel after having 1 DH initially only wanted to have 1 ever, but has been so soppy (already!) about this one that I'm not sure he'll be content to stay like that.

JODIEhavingababy · 23/05/2008 11:15

Morning all,

Just got back from Midwife and everything fine, Measuring 31 weeks (am 32+3) I had a good old moan to her, I just thought I'd tell her everything and not miss anything out so that she could tell me if I need to be worried.. She's told me off for doing too much, and advised the birthing ball, which I'll pop into town and get this afternoon I think. Will I need a foot pump too?

I had a 'scare' last night, I had been feeling uncomfortable all day (and I've been having shooting pains in my sides for about 4 days)and then just before dinner I started to get a low dull ache in my back which was how it started with DS, so I rushed upstairs (I kind of knew it was nothing, but thought I'd better get my bag packed just in case!) So thats that, still here and Bag is now packed and waiting to go! One less job to do!

Hope everyone else is OK?

Heffa · 23/05/2008 11:23

Jodie - My birthing ball was an exercise ball from the sports shop (seemed cheaper) and it came with a little pump.

sweetkitty · 23/05/2008 11:23

Jodie - we get so many of those kind of scares I had loads of them with DD2 in the end when you do go into labour you think "oh it will pass soon and it's not the real thing" glad MW appointment went well.

Heffa - I used all my old towels last time and restocked with loads of fluffy white ones, don't want to use my fluffy white ones as they are too good so need some cheap ones. Surprisingly I hardly use the navy ones I bought last time so they will do this time as well. Haven't even thought about what to wear in labour, DD1 I had on a DKNY pink t-shirt as I never managed to get changed, still got it it's prized now though. Never got messy at all. DD2 was naked. This time will probably be naked or use one of DP's t-shirts which I seem to be living in indoors. Glad you had a good MWs appointment too and at you getting a cup of tea.

sweetkitty · 23/05/2008 11:24

I'm the same birthing ball is a Reebok exercise ball from Argos I think, I did buy a little hand pump thing but now I use the electic pump I bought for blowing up DDs bouncy castle/paddling pool!

tafftaff · 23/05/2008 11:28

I watched the 13 kids programme too last night and that poor Asian woman , how could her husband say that everything she was feeling was all in the mind. I didn't think the MW did a very good job of putting across the health issues to him either. Perhaps because it was falling on deaf ears and she had tried numerous times before! However, the rest of the families looked soooo happy and all the kids were so well behaved. I was expecting to see utter chaos!

Tjuice, am super jealous of you having a cleaner. I think i'll have to put it to DP after the baby is born that we'll need one too!

Heffa, glad to hear your MW appointment went well. Also, glad to hear that you don;t have to do weekly bloods anymore. I had so many at the beginning of the pg that I got totally fed up with it in the end.

Jodie, make sure you take things easy. Your body gives you signals when it wants you to slow down and besides, we all need a good excuse to let DP/DH help out a bit more.

EEC...enjoy your long weekend and not having to do anything.

Umlellala · 23/05/2008 11:43

Hello there, thought I would join you again - I just find this thread so hard to follow (espesh given preg brain...)

I am Umlellala, 32+3 (I only know cos I went hospital yest!!), with second baby - a boy this time. Dd is 2.

Jodie, I went to OAU yesterday because I had exactly the same thing as you - backache that just immediately triggered memories of my labour with dd - and then in hospital had a few 'tightenings' but they went away so it looks like 'just one of those things'. Weird though that you had same!

Am off on holiday tomorrow - a week of relaxation in Cornwall while dh runs around after the toddler . Hurrah!

Will try to keep up with the thread , I am trying to convince dh to get a cleaner but he keeps saying he'll do it... (which he does, but I don't think he should have to!).

JODIEhavingababy · 23/05/2008 11:55

Hi,

Welcome back Umlellala, Isn't it wierd how it works now? I think that subconsiously I know that I could quite probably give birth now and baby would be OK, so it's not as frightening anymore, although I'd rather wait until I'm 37 weeks (5 weeks to go!) It's a very scary time these last few weeks, I remember with DS every twinge got my heart racing, and of course, none of the twinges actually felt like the real thing!!!

Heffa · 23/05/2008 11:56

Welcome back Umlellala A week in Cornwall sounds lovely, whereabouts?

Sweetkitty - mmmmm, fluffy white towels! I love white towels but DH worries that they'd get filthy (which they probably would, but still!).

I didn't know backache could be a sign of labour - tbh, I'm glad I'm going to antenatal classes because I'm not sure of any of the signs really.

JODIEhavingababy · 23/05/2008 12:09

Heffa, neither did I until it happened! I was laid up with a hot water bottle, thinking it was just baby moving down abit more, and I called the hospital, but only because it had been sore all day and I wanted to kjnwo if I could take anything stronger than paracetemol, and it was the MW on the phone that said it was early labour! Low and behold a couple of hours later, contractions started and 2 days later DS was born. I later found out that he was back to back, which s why pain started in my back (and why the first stage took forever!)

tafftaff · 23/05/2008 12:27

Jodie...two days!!!????

gillythekid · 23/05/2008 12:27

Glad some of you watched the 13 kids doc, that poor Pakisani woman, her husband was a bit of an arse, I liked the bit where he talked about muscle fatigue after footy, not really the same thing mate! Everyone seemed happy enough though, good job I'm too old to get hooked at almost 35 and only on my first!
Glad birthing balls are making everyone comfy, mine's an old exercise one that will be re-employed with my rebounder and Reebok step once I'm recovered from the birth (fingers crossed!)
Just been to TKMaxx and got a funky, stripy gro bag for £8 and some lovely PJ's that won't make me feel too frumpy for BFing.
Nice day here in Hackney, I'm hoovering up cat fur and cleaning windows.....rock n roll!
Hope those of you on ML are making the most of it and those of you who are out at work aren't working too hard, I admire you all as I lost my job at the end of last summer and not sure I could've coped working during this pregnancy!

Mummywannabe · 23/05/2008 12:44

Haven't had chance to read any post yet. Last day at work today! Mixed emotions really. Right better get back to it.

Catch up later

Peanut73 · 23/05/2008 13:13

Hey everyone,

This is the DH of Peanut73 speaking.

She wanted me to inform you all that her waters broke yesterday at 5pm!

She's currently doing very well. The doctors have managed to ward off her contractions , so she has yet to go into full blown labour.

The only worry is that they've been talking about transferring us to another hospital miles outside London, as all the neonatal units are full up. Nightmare!

I've been talking to the bump and telling it to hold it's horses for a while.

Other than that Peanut has been an absolute champion and is taking it all in her stride.

She has my utmost respect and I feel so very proud and lucky.

Anyhow, I better stop this tired, incoherent rambling and get back to her bedside.

Take care everyone - I'll send chapter two of the story some time soon.

All the best

Luke

gillythekid · 23/05/2008 13:14

Just a quick question re nappies for any of you in the know. I just got a £54 voucher for reusables from the council, and as we don't have any space for drying, I was going to sign up to a nappy laundering service at around a £10 a week. I heard of a study where it's suggested that eco disposables are less harsh on the carbon footprint and found some for around £4 for 28. Is it possible to give an estimate of how many nappies a baby goes through in a week so I can make a judgement on cost? Also, has anyone tried the Swedish 'Nature babycare' range that I found? Thanks!

tafftaff · 23/05/2008 13:18

Hi Luke,

Thanks for letting us know about Peanut. We'll keep everything crossed that it all goes well and please give her a big hug from us all.

Heffa · 23/05/2008 13:19

Peanut/Peanut's DH - Wow! Good luck with everything, it sounds like you're both coping with it really well! It must be very exciting. I'll be thinking of you both.

Mummywannabe - enjoy your last day

Gilly - I've heard before that disposables are actually better for the environment because of the lack of washing. I guess it depends how you wash them and so on though. We couldn't do it here because of drying situation, and there aren't any local nappy services. I've bought some of the Nature babycare ones, but obviously haven't tried them yet!

pigleychez · 23/05/2008 13:23

Blimey Peanut!!! Hope everything goes ok for her. Thanks for posting MR Peanut..kep us informed.

Looks like Peanut might win the prize for being the first!

Mummywannabe- Enjoy your last day! One thing i havent missed from Nursery is the constant noise!!

Umlellala- welcome back.

Just had a wasted trip into town! Couldnt find anything i wanted... Muslins in mothercare- they only had blue or pink and i need white... Nighties from Primark- only a few bits on show to make way for bikinis!...so thought id treat myself to a new top or something but couldnt find anything i liked

So i decided to console myself with Mcdonalds fries and a strawberry milkshake...hit the spot and was yummy!
Think baby thought the milkshake was too cold as went loopy when i drunk it!

isaidno · 23/05/2008 13:31

Good luck peanut!! How exciting! I am going tomil's for weekend and I am def taking my hospital bag with me now - just in case!

gilly - a newborn gets through about 8 nappies a day, so 28 is 3, maybe 4 days worth. As they get older the amount of nappies decreases, so by the age of 1, you prob use 5 a day.

gillythekid · 23/05/2008 13:44

Thanks re the nappy question, I posted on the relevant thread too!

My post crossed with Peanut news, Luke, I've got fingers and everything else crossed here in Hackney, I know you guys are only down the road! Hope mum and baba and you are ok.

Poledra · 23/05/2008 13:47

Oh wow Peanut! Hope everything goes well, and thanks for letting us know, MrPeanut.

Think I am going to stop coming on here - so v v at everyone going on maternity leave. Still got 4 weeks left at work . And no hospital bag packed. And no baby clothes brought down from attic. And basically nothing done (only reason the car seat is down from the attic is because we needed to take it when we were looking at new cars to make sure we fitted all the seats in!).

Heffa · 23/05/2008 13:56

Pigley - mmmm McDonalds! I'm hungry now!

Poledra - I'm sure the 4 weeks will fly by. If it's any consolation, everyone I know would be very approving of you not having a hospital bag packed, I keep getting told off for having it done ("well, it won't be coming for aaaages yet").
