Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

OP posts:

so there are medicines as well that we can take while breast feeding that wont affect the milk?

LittleConnie · 30/05/2008 13:07

Thanks for the info potxola. Just been out and found a gorgeous little maternity and baby shop in our new local area... bought a couple of tops but had to force myself to leave as I would have lost control of myself in there.

And thanks for the link starlight I didn't realise you could drink moderately whilst bf. Will be nice to have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner now and again.

KashaSarrasin · 30/05/2008 13:13

I was bfing DS until my most recent hospital stay, when it just seemed the right time to stop - so basically until he turned 3. If someone had suggested to me when I was pg with him that I'd spend 3 years bfing I'd have freaked a bit though! I aimed for a few months to start with, then just kept going .

eandz lots of medicines are OK while bfing, there are very few medical problems that don't have a bfing-compatible treatment, the problem is that lots of doctors are not very well informed about it. I had PND after DS was born and my GP told me I had to stop bfing to take antidepressants but I contacted La Leche League who gave me more information and put me in touch with a more informed doctor (this was when I was living in France) who sorted me out, in the end I was bfing and taking antids for about a year.
And I've had a fair few drinks over the last 3 years as well !

awesome, you girls are the best!

lollipopmother · 30/05/2008 13:51

I am not really a drinker, well i'm a binge drinker, if I go out I go out to get hammered but I have to say that today I could easily have a glass of wine, God i'm almost dribbling!

surelyyoucantbeserious · 30/05/2008 13:54

Hi all, well sounds as though preparations are well under way with you all! I haven't started buying any 'equipment' yet but have done some pushchair etc research.... wowzers very overwhelming!

Q: anyone had burning pain in their shoulder blades? Think it might just be from the additional weight but I'm surprised the pain is in my upper rather than lower back...?

lollipopmother · 30/05/2008 14:00

Surely God yes, underneath the shoulderblade and also directly over it. I also have burning back muscles all the way up the left hand side and all across my lower back. I am hoping to get signed off in a couple of weeks because I just can't stand it anymore, my chair at work aggrevates it so much and the 2hrs each way on the coach does me no favours, but I'm sticking at it until I really can't manage anymore, I'll be gutted if the Dr doesn't think it's a reasonable request for a sick note.

mama2bee · 30/05/2008 14:20

surelyyoucantbeserious re pain between the shoulder pains - yes, me too! To be honest, I used to get it before I was pg (too much time using the computer, especially the mouse, I have been told) but it seems worse now, especially by the end of the day. I just can't get comfy sitting (any excuse to lie on the sofa?!) I'm considering booking a pregnancy massage, or if that doesn't work acupuncture. I used to go for deep tissues massages but they are v painful, and probably not suitable in pregnancy anyway.

mama2bee · 30/05/2008 14:25

lollipopmother you poor thing! The 2hr coach journey must be awful with all that burning pain. I hope you get it sorted soon, must be miserable for you, I'm not sure mine is quite as bad as that - I hope your GP signs you off and you get it sorted. Also, work should really sort you out with a decent chair...

potxola · 30/05/2008 14:28

Kasha WELL DONE! 3 YRS BF. I gave it up at 2.2 years. I suffered more than him when I decided to stop.

I did not drink, not even one glass during my first pregnancy and the bf time (3 years in total). Honestly.
This time I did drink in December, I just did not know I was going to fall pregnant the first month I tried, but I have stopped since. I just can not drink. I love Spanish Rioja wine . It just does not feel right for me to drink.I am too scared of harming this little one, I don't feel like drinking, it does not even smell like it used to.

surelyyoucantbeserious · 30/05/2008 15:07

mama2be2 and lollipop - thanks I feel less freaky now! thank goodness for MN otherwise I would feel like I was the only one falling apart at the seams...

I am constantly wriggling around at work trying to get comfy, and as soon as I get home I lie flat on my back with legs up. Prob not allowed but it relieves the aching. Thought about massage too but havent' got anywhere with that...

Wonder whether a different chair would help?? hmm.

Yes and poor lollipop with a coach journey as well.

eandz · 30/05/2008 15:14

i don't drink...but boy did i smoke....i hate to think that i smoked until i found out i was pregnant. but at the same time i get a little sad sometimes that i didn't get that 'last cigarette in'... i'm thinking about having my last cigarette right after i give birth...but i don't know how that'll affect colstrum/breast milk...so i might wait a while or just never have my last.

imoscarsmum · 30/05/2008 15:18

Starlight that's very helpful and puts a much more positive light on bf. I rarely get hammered (too old now!) but DP and I used to love sharing a bottle of wine with Ant n Dec on a Saturday night . Methinks a bit more research & reading is needed.

Just been to see mw - all well, flumpet's heartbeat was loud and he was moving all over the place. The fundus length is normal too. DP working from home today so he came too and heard the heartbeat for the 1st time!!

surelyyoucantbeserious it's taken me months to get my head around what sort of pram we'll need, and that's before we think about car seats!!
We love the iCandy Apple www.icandyuk.com/apple.htm and Silvercross www.silvercross.co.uk/sleepover_linear_chassis.php.
Anyone have any thoughts on the pros and cons of isofix bases - are they worth the extra £££?

surelyyoucantbeserious · 30/05/2008 15:40

Friends have just got an icandy but baby not born yet so can't comment on the success of it!

I have my eye on a Silver Cross as well.

My sister swears by Maclaren

DH is 6'5 so we will certainly need to do some road testing first before we buy...

Lovely to hear heartbeat isn't it? Can't believe what a wriggler this baby is - incredible!

notcitrus · 30/05/2008 16:07

Hello again - you can add me to the list as 13 Sept, boy, first baby.

My pelvic pain has got a lot worse, but after taking a while to get through on the phone this morning, I have a midwife appt (probably simple referral to physio) on Monday morning! I'm then seeing my osteopath on Tuesday - last saw him just before I got pregnant when his son was a week old, so I should get babycare tips as well as posture stuff.

My baby will be my MIL's third grandchild in 9 months, after she waited 20 years for one. #1 was born just before Christmas, and #2 is currently faffing about deciding whether it wants to be born today or not. I can't concentrate on work at all - I hurt and I keep getting text messages with #2 updates! I'm so excited!

imoscarsmum · 30/05/2008 16:14

SYCBS the iCandy Apple's handle is fully adjustable for different heights and can be done in one touch - one of the things that we liked about it.

bogie · 30/05/2008 16:37

I bf my ds untill he was 2 (when I got pg with this one) and I had a couple of drinks every now and again whilst i was bf and ds is fine I think its ok unless you really over do it.

hopefully · 30/05/2008 16:38

My pram has been ordered, but MIL thoughtfully chose a delivery date in mid august so we wouldn't have the pram cluttering up our house. I want to play with it though!!! Am so tempted to phone and see if it can be delivered earlier...

digitalgirl · 30/05/2008 16:41

just been reading the due in june thread where they're all talking about packing hospital bags and selling maternity clothes on eBay - that'll be us soon! Then I read the due in Feb thread where they're all really really excited with their news - that was us once!

Question
if there are any, what are the alternatives to bathing a baby in a baby bath or tummy tub? I'm keen to keep bulky plastic purchases to a minimum.

Hi guys
Just catching up. I Bf for 2 years too and drank when I wanted . You quickly find your own pattern and learn what works for you .
notcitrus I understand your pelvic pain, I have been trying to ignore it. Let me know what they suggest to ease it.
Thanks for all your replies you have helped me put my bump size into perspective. I cant really expect to be big when I have been so poorly for months. I am going to see how it grows over the next week or so. I havent seen any movements either. There is still plenty of time.
eandz I choose the chameleon bug because it felt fab to push. TBH I live in the country and dont really use public transport. I drive everywhere so it will suit me, I think.
Its friday x

mamamufin · 30/05/2008 16:54

Sinks a good idea . x

becaroo · 30/05/2008 16:56

DG: I second the advice about the sink! We bathed my ds in our bathroom sink for a few weeks - he was tiny - and then he just went in the big bath with us. Will do the same this time.

To those thinking of getting a silvercross pram - have just got mine and I LOVE it

Baby doing somersaults last night - could really see my tummy moving! Sadly kept it up til 3am and then my ds came in to our bed at 3.30am! Feeling a bit tired!

I seem to remember someone mentioning La Leche League - do you think they would think I was mad if I went along to a bf clinic before having the baby? Someone I know recommeneded me to do it, but I am wondering if many mums to be bother?

Getting loads of bh contractions too - not painful just strange.
