We are two down and have another 30-40 to go. Makecakes and Gemma have probably popped by now, then G43! It's all happening!!!!!

Hello fellow mummies to be!

Thank you for your wishes, they worked!
I couldn't get to sleep for about an hour last night, thinking I could hear noises outside...but there was nothing. Peaceful neighbours and a peaceful night = very happy PP.

Deb - You've summed up a lot of my day today in your post this morning...
Feeling fat and fed up (and then ok again a few hours later). Tick.
Would like an exact date and time for going into labour. Tick.
Convincing myself that I will be a lean mean exercise machine after the birth (but knowing that it's unlikley). Tick.

Looney - Shame about your Mum. Perhaps she'll change her plans when your LO actually arrives? Glad things a bit better with DH...I am convinced they get as hormonal as us!

Ernest - I have itchy bump too, but only very occasionally and no rash. Think you need get checked out, if only to put all our minds at rest! The scratches on my tummy are tiger scratches (stretch marks!) NB: I was underwhelmed to receive a digital radio for Xmas, but I absolutely love it now. I want one for every room!

Very excited to hear that people are having contractions (sympathy for anyone in pain though)....

Think my little one is still back to back . Am I right in thinking I need to get on all fours with bum in the air to try and turn him? Or was that for breech?

PregnantPenguin · 18/05/2008 21:37

Oh and went to Ikea today - cute baby stuff and so much cheaper and less twee than babies r us that we went too. It was full of pregnant ladies too, more in Ikea that in BRU!

Essie3 · 18/05/2008 21:39

Rolf tell me more about that last bit? My baby has stopped wiggling as much (he was extremely wiggly before, so I'm not panicking...yet!). Is he getting ready? Or just getting big!
And another stupid question, for anyone - how much does the baby move when you're giving birth?
I'm clearly on mumsnet for basic biology!!

I'm also really impressed by Neenz - I just can't see myself being that capable! And the weight loss is great news too - gives me a bit of hope! I'm not carrying lots of weight on me at the moment, but it could all change in this last month (hips are expanding already, and I'm keeping a close eye on the thigh area!!)

On the subject of weight, I'm off to have a large bowl of ice cream with desperate housewives.

Essie3 · 18/05/2008 21:41

Also, I'm itching too - bump, and upper arms! No rash though, and I think it's just stretching. (When will the stretching ever stop?!)

Rolf · 18/05/2008 21:44

Essie - ummm...I think they often quieten down when they are about to hatch. And obviously as it becomes a tighter fit there is less movement. I don't know if any of that is reassuring though - no-one can help worrying when a wriggly baby stops being wriggly. The hospitals are very used to checking out mothers who are worried and usually the baby does huge kicks as soon as the belts go on

I was really chanelling Father Jack yesterday - cursing and snapping at everyone.

PP - yes, I think bum in the air helps with posterior positioning.

Essie3 · 18/05/2008 21:52

Not too worried because MW came today and the heartbeat was fine. He also had a mega wriggling session Saturday morning - as in 'give it a rest now'! Maybe he overdid it in there!
TBH I think it's just wishful thinking - people here are having contractions, and indeed, babies, and I want one and I don't want to be overdue!

PregnantPenguin · 18/05/2008 22:42

For me very cold water and something sugary (conveniently) always makes my little one wriggle....I have been know to get up in the middle of the night to eat chocs to get him moving again when worried!

Dramaqueen - Re: the sheets thing. When I was less of a domestic slut, I found ironing sheets whilst they were still slightly damp worked. Now I just use fitted sheets (I used to be so snobby about these, no idea why!)

thegreenfairy · 19/05/2008 00:20

Evening all, or should I say morning?

Dramas here today, but first PP knee to chest (on all fours) is supposed to help back to back and breech, so go for it. Particularly good for when in active labour with back to back apparently.

So, started having mild contractions this morning at about 11 and, after three hours in the bath ended up going into hospital, as am still breech and they wanted to observe me.

Contractions mild and erratic, so they suggested I have an ECV while I was there.
Not surprised that it didn't work, but I was suprised by how much it hurt!!!
God, it was painful. My hypnotherapy breathing helped and DH held my hand and got squeezed, but bloody hell, was worse than I expected.

LO did move, but sort of got stuck three quarters of the way round and her heartrate went down so they stopped and put me on heart monitor for a long time to make sure she was ok. Movement and heartrate fine but she's where she was again - breech and not budging.

Then, when I was thinking 'right I can go home in a minute' I had a show . They wanted to keep me in overnight, but for some reason the consultant didn't want to check my cervix, saying they'd do it in the morning .

Initially I agreed to stay in, but DH did a good job of reminding me about why being at home was better.

So went and collared a doc and insisted on being examined. Turned out I am a whopping 1cm dilated. So basically insisted I go home, after promising to come back if anything changed.

Currently sat in bed and v happy to be home.

Got my acupuncture tomorrow (unless waters break or something) and contractions have stopped now, but it's been a crazy day!

Still booked in for another ECV on Friday (eek) so REALLY hoping the acupuncture works, as have got a feeling I'll probably go into full labour before then, in which case it's a CS for me...

What a day!

Rolf · 19/05/2008 04:27

Hope you're asleep by now, TGF and hope your acupuncture goes well. The ecv doesn't sound very nice, and what a shmae that it diidn't work. My friend is having one tomorrow - I won't tell her that it hurts!

Sounds as though you're going to meet your baby quite soon

I up doing my usual fennel tea/heartburn thing.

PearTart · 19/05/2008 06:24

Morning, hope you're asleep now Rolf. I'm up with too much on my mind. couldn't log on here last night so need to read posts and catch up.

debinaustria · 19/05/2008 06:26

TGF - sounds like you had quite a day - how are you feeling now?

Rolf - Hope you managed to get back to sleep. Any more contractions?

DQ - Ironing - I use fitted sheets that don't need ironing as when you stretch them the creases come out, as for quilt covers and pillowcases I am afraid to admit I have a fancy ironing machine, a bit like an old fashioned mangle. But then some weeks I do have 14-18 sets to get through! As for our clothes we all have working clothes/playing out in the garden stuff which doesn't get ironed, everything else does - BUT I don't do underwear or towels.

Ernest - how's the rash? Why would they make the Indian different next time? Sorry I couldn't think of a present idea for your dh - did you think of anything? Wish him a Happy Birthday from all of us at MN!!

Katyjo - anything happening?

G43 - hope things are going well for you in hospital

Whibegums - shame about your Mum , not being able to travel to you either.

UDCAke - I think it's been so long since I was sitting at home with a newborn , that I've forgotten how hungry you do get, and thirsty too when you're bfeeding. I have completely unrealistic expectations of losing weight!! Especially as by the time of the birth thewre will be so much excess weight - I made Choch chip cookies and flapjacks yesterday - why did I do that??? And more to the point why are cookies so good straight fromt he oven???

PP - how are you today, I don't feel quite as moany this morning!

Essie - I don't remember baby moving during labour, I don't think they can move much once they are fully engaged and contractions start.

Hope anyone I've missed is OK, maybe we'll get to here from Makecakes and Gemma today? Boys are back to school this morning after their week off so I hope to get lots done this morning - if you spot me on here kick me off!!

debinaustria · 19/05/2008 06:26

Morning Pear tart - how are you doing?

PearTart · 19/05/2008 06:52

Hi Deb
Feeling strangely envious of all the bump action, even the pre-contractions. Katyjo and TGF- it sounds like things are more imminent.
Bump here feels like it's here to stay for another month with baby still having plenty of room to wriggle. Humph. Although I don't feel ready at all- still too much house stuff to do.

Went to Pizza Express Distress last night with DH & DD and I think the service was a bit slow so DD was really ants-in-the-pants and i spent all my time juggling her. Kept asking DH to help with feeding/ entertaining. Was pissed off with DH and told him so, and his response: I do too much so he doesn't get a chance to help, and if I did less he might realise I needed help...
I never sleep well after an argument. Now I'm tired and have a busy day with DD, and I know DH won't be home today until late-late.
Hate starting the day like this, I feel DD needs a happier mummy than this one.

sophiewd · 19/05/2008 07:00

Morning all - anyone for sauseages, 4 weeks today and I start my maternity leave whoohoo.

TGF - positive vibes coming from Dorset.

dylansmumplusone · 19/05/2008 07:32

morning everyone!

greenfairy sounds like it's all kicking off! it sucks that things aren't going according to plan but i'm sure once you hold that sweet baby in your arms you won't mind so much how she got there.

peartart there must be something in the air as dh and i had a blazing row last night over ordering pizza! well that was the trigger but it's just a lot of pent up frustration. he's trying to do everything - work full-time and now take care of ds and clean the house - and i can't do anything so we're both on edge. i just keep thinking soon, very soon!!

i'm going to order birth pool in a box today so quite excited at that!!

PearTart · 19/05/2008 07:41

Dylansmum maybe it's the whole run up to NB, but I'm feeling so down at the moment. Crying a lot more than I should be and panicking and worrying about how this is affecting DD and bump.
Just want someone to come and hug me and tell me it'll be OK.

PearTart · 19/05/2008 07:42

Are you planning HB? HAve you had one before?

We haven't even discussed baby names yet!

ErnestTheBavarian · 19/05/2008 07:54

morning all. Thanks for the thoughts & wishes. This is gonna be a monster one sorry.

Rash update. I phone emergency chemist that was open yesterday to see if they could give me anything & she said I should phone my Frauenarzt (gynae) and if they were unavailable, to go to the hospital. I was seriously questioning that, but she wouldn't give me anything. So phoned Frauenarzt. Surprise, not available, so phone hospital, who insisted I went in. Was seriously pissed off, but alos a bit worried then (and embarrassed) that everyone was takig my itchy belly so seriously.

So in I go, 20 mins CTG scan - all OK, then bloody ages waiting for doc. Blood tests for liver problems, ultrasound . She wanted me to wait for blood test results. I HAD to get out of there, so asked her to just ring if there was a prob. So basically, that was SUnday pm knackered. Doc didn't ring, so assume all OK.

BUT. I still have the itchiest belly covered in rash imaginable. Honesly, it's like 100 mossie bites, all centering around belly button, so not just itchy, but burning pain and agony if you do give in and touch it. She gave me an anti-itching gel but it's had no impact. The only thing that sooths it is something really cool, so I sat with a glass of ice on my belly last night, but obv couldn't do that in bed, so been awake since 2 am itching to death, but then in burning agony if I give in or inadvertantly touch it. No clue as to what it is, r how long it'll last but it is no fun.

Also knackered up dh's birthday to some extent, as I couldn't get the boys to do a card last night, as back too late, so he had to make do with abirthday kiss this morning and he grumpily enquired as to whether or not that was it for his birthday so will have to bloody rustle up a pressie somehow today (still not got ANY ideas) as well as a card from each of the boys, cake, blah blah blah. I did cook him a special birthday breakfast yesterday, with smoked mackerel that I'd tracked down especially. (his favourite) So come on, ideas please - am desperate!!

Pear Tart, sorry to hear about your argument with dh. When are you due? Maybe you should take what he says on board and take more of a backseat with dd when he's around. It'll help also when new baby comes, as he'll inevitably have to do more with her. I think (sexist generalisation coming up) that men are often essentially lazy creatures who take advantage of beneift from the fact that we women tend to be more capable with childcare (mainly cos we do the lion's share anyway). I also think we can be a bit control freakery about it, or even martyr-like - do it, but get the hump they don't do it, instead of just making them do it in the 1st place (I am NOT saying this is you, I know I don/have down all this in the past) but and learning to get better at making dh pull his weight a bit more.

Make him do it. Still, rarely is a change easy, esp when it's making someone do more to help, so good luck with re jiggling, but it'll have to be re jiggled anyway with pt II on the way.

Make cakes, what's going on??

PP how was the weekend with the nieighbours? And news on house?

GF, I'd heard it hurts, trying to move the baby. Sorry you tried and it didn't work. These last few days and weeks are really nerve wracking.

I know there's loads more, but this is getting too long and embarrassing now, and I have a birthday to organise Good luck for anyone having 'moevements' today.

Hi Ernest, thanks for advice and reassurance re DH (I'm having a cup of tea whilst he plays with DD before work so I can regain my composure chat)

What a faff- losing a whole day to your rash- and still no answer. At least you're not worrying the professionals IFKWIM. Hope the rash buggers off.
Re Dh's B-Day pressy- how technobobble is he? Would he appreciate one of those brain-training hand held computer things. (No idea how expensive/ fun they are etc)
Or maybe something more out-and-about- is there a shop with man-toys near you- the kind of thing that women don't really see as fun but blokes like... Or go and ask in a gadget/ bloke shop what the latest must have is...
(can you tell I'm not great at this!)
Or a kite!!!

Parofleurmapu · 19/05/2008 08:28

Morning all

Ok been awake since 4 am with period type cramps and twinges. Have really painful backache and period pains getting worse but do come and go depending on which position im in. Cause never done this before dont know if its all normal??

Sorry bout arguments etc with DPsDHs.... think they are perfectly normal at mo though what with our hormones and the extra stuff they all have to do.

Upside: Dp says nope not cause he is dutch he said he could see it needed doing, icant do it so he would for me!!!!!!!!

Ernest: Sometimes with my Dp i order him something online and give him a voucher for it telling him its on its way. These type of sites have boys toys on!!! boystoys Is he into gardening? my dp loved an electric hedge trimmer igave him one year!!! any power tools are always good!!

PearTart · 19/05/2008 08:46

Could be pre-labour Paro, but how long things take to get established is often a lottery. How far apart are the pains? Did your baby turn in the end?

Lorettah · 19/05/2008 08:51

Hello,

This is my first day of ML - yay - although it doesnt quite feel real yet. I've got loads planned today to keep me busy, man coming to measure blinds (10.30), write birth plan (done already this morning!), clean dining room, wash decking - not sure how much I'm really going to get done but here's hoping!

Re everyone's mood swings / arguements I've been having whoppers with my DH, even thinking of going back to my parents just to give him a break from me - I'm being a nightmare, although I think I had just cause on Satuday night when we went out with his mate (consent given) at 5pm and didn't come home until 1pm!!! I practically ripped his head off when he got home had a massive row & then it continued into the morning until I broke down - btw my house is still full of builders & its a mess so I'm v. stressed about it all!

Wow that feels better getting that off my chest!

Any advice for the moody mummy to be?

dylansmumplusone · 19/05/2008 08:54

peartart i think you're right. it's a stressful, anxious time. dh has said as much to me before, but then i'm a bit of a control freak and tend to take over so it's my fault really. but since i've been laid up with spd he's been a star, doing everything although he still needs a lot of 'guidance'.

i spent most of yesterday in fairly hysterical tears so i understand what you're going through and about needing a hug!! sending you a great big virtual one!

PearTart · 19/05/2008 08:54

Hi Lorattah, and all other hormonal mums,
No advice here but it does help to know that I'm not the only one flipping out!

aberdeenhiker · 19/05/2008 08:57

Paro - I'm having the same things - cramps and lower back/pelvic pain. I think it's just pre-labour and means our bodies are getting ready. Unfortunately it doesn't provide us with an estimate for when we'll go into labour though...

I had pre-labour contractions from 5pm to 11pm last night, which I was fortunately able to doze through because I was so tired! It definitely wasn't labour - just practice - but we were all so tired that I found myself lying in bed wishing that they'd stop, which is not like me at all! I did not want to go into labour in the middle of the night after DH's epic bike ride and tons of travel etc.

Anyways, we did have a great time in Pitlochry for the bike race. DH did a better time than he expected and didn't push himself too hard so he had enough energy to help with DS once he'd finished. One of our best friends came in the top 10 too so it was very exciting.

But on the bad-mother front - I was at the playground with DS and he managed to fall off the equipment and land 5ft below on the bark. It was a bit of a freak accident, as there were horizontal bars one foot high all around the platform he was on and he tripped and rolled under them, but he was far too young to be on there anyways (he's not even two) so I shouldn't have been letting him play on it! He was really shaken and cried for 30 minutes and then went into shock and slept in my arms for an hour. I was so scared - which is probably what kickstarted the false labour last night.
